Gaulding grabs pole records at Kern County 10-26-2013
Gray Gaulding set two records while winning the pole in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West qualifying on Saturday for the NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Kern County Raceway Park.

Gaulding established the track record at 100.514 mph (17.908 seconds) in winning the 21 Means 21 Pole Award by Coors Brewing Co., for the inaugural series event on the high-banked, half-mile track. The Colonial Heights, Va., driver also set the record as the youngest pole winner in the series, at 15 years eight months 16 days - to go with the same record he holds in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.

Giles Thornton (No. 12 Toyota) leads the lone practice for the K&NPS-West Series NAPA Auto Parts 150 at the inaugural visit to Kern County Raceway Park near Bakersfield, California. A lap of 99.861 mph was the quickest of the 28 cars out on the track for the practice session. No. 6 Derek Thorn, No. 26 Greg Pursley, No. 9 Dylan Lupton and No. 24 Cameron Hayley are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. No. 15 Jim Weiler was the slowest.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is at the top of the speed chart in the Happy Hour practice leading to the Sprint Cup Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway. He put up a 97.533 mph lap in the final practice. No. 15 Clint Bowyer, No. 5 Kasey Kahne, No. 18 Kyle Busch and No. 40 Matt Kenseth are the rest of the top five and No. 87 Joe Nemechek was the slowest of the 42 cars running in this final session. Earnhardt also had a 10-lap average speed of 96.791 mph. This was the best of the 38 cars running at least 10 consecutive laps.

His average of 96.590 mph was best of the 33 cars that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session. No. 2 Brad Keselowski, No. 15 Clint Bowyer, No. 20 Matt Kenseth and No. 88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. are the rest of the top five on this list.

Joey Logano (22 Ford) leads the first Saturday practice for the Sprint Cup Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway. He ran a fast lap of 97.468 mph. No. 18 Kyle Busch, No. 88 Dale Earnhardt Jr., No. 20 Matt Kenseth and No. 15 Clint Bowyer rounded out the rest of the top five on the speed chart for this practice. J.J. Yeley in the No. 36 was the slowest.
