Keselowski takes big hit in points at Vegas 03-11-2012

Brad Keselowski takes the biggest hit in the 2012 point standings after the Sprint Cup Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He started the No. 2 Dodge 20th in the lineup but had problems in the race. With about 15 to go, while running 2nd on the restart, he had a fuel pickup issue and had to go into the pits. He finished the race about 8 laps down in 32nd. Keselowski's drop of 9 spots (to 21st) in the 2012 standings was the biggest drop of the drivers making all races so far this season.

He started the No. 48 Chevrolet in 6th position (actually had to drop to the rear at the green for using a backup car) and finished 2nd. His gain of 14 spots to 23rd in the 2012 championship standings was the biggest of the drivers making all races so far this season.

The No. 99 driver improved 16 places from 21st in the lineup to a 5th place finish. He is 6th in the 2012 Sprint Cup point standings.

The $5,500 award goes to the crew chief that improves the most from first half of the race to the second half utilizing the 40 best lap times (improved 0.302 seconds). McMurray started the race in 19th and finished in 8th. He is 25th in the 2012 Sprint Cup point standings.

Josh Wise is the top rookie finisher in the Sprint Cup Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The No. 26 Ford driver started 33rd and finished 40th. He was named the Sunoco "Rookie of the Race". Wise is currently 42nd in the 2012 point standings.

Kasey Kahne wins the $5,900 Coors Light Pole Award for the Kobalt Tools 400 in Las Vegas. The No. 5 Chevrolet driver set a new track record with his 190.456 mph qualifying lap. He was passed on the first lap of the race by teammate No. 88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. (who led 70 laps and finished 10th). Kahne never led a lap. He finished 19th and is currently 26th in the 2012 point standings.

Tony Stewart wins the Kobalt Tools 400, his 45th victory in 467 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. This is the No. 14 Chevrolet driver's first victory and first top-10 finish in 2012. It is his first victory and ninth top-10 finish in 14 races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He now is winless on only two current Sprint Cup tracks - Darlington Raceway and Kentucky Speedway. Stewart moved up 8 spots to 7th in the 2012 NSCS point standings.
