Toby Petersen, C, Dallas StarsMonday 6/9, 9:29 PM CT
The Stars re-signed Toby Petersen to a two-year, $1.1 million deal Monday, according to TSN.ca. "We are very pleased to have Toby under contract the next two seasons," said Co-GM Les Jackson. "Toby is a consummate professional on and off the ice, and he played a key role for us during our playoff run this spring. We look forward to his continued contributions to our club."

Our View: Peterson isn't a factor in fantasy, but he provides value to the Stars in other ways.
Maxim Lapierre, C, Montreal CanadiensMonday 6/9, 2:34 PM CT
The Canadiens have re-signed center Maxim Lapierre on Monday, according to the AP. He inked a two-year extension, and financial details were not disclosed. GM Bob Gainey said, "Maxim is part of our young players who contribute to the success of our team. The determination, grit and energy he brings are important assets that we are looking for in our young players."

Our View: The 23-year old will begin his fourth season with Montreal in the fall. He posted career bests of seven goals and 11 assists over 53 games in 2007-08.
Johan Franzen, C, Detroit Red WingsMonday 6/9, 12:56 PM CT
Coach Mike Babcock is reportedly very close to inking a contract extension with Detroit, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: He is believed to be getting a three-year deal, and it could be made official as early as Tuesday. The team may need to replace assistant coach Todd McClellan, as he is interviewing for coaching jobs in San Jose and Atlanta.
Dominik Hasek, G, Detroit Red WingsMonday 6/9, 11:49 AM CT
Dominik Hasek has retired on Monday, according to ESPN.com. "The Dominator" played for 16 NHL campaigns, but noted that he lacked the motivation to return for another year. He said, "I don't feel today that I'm ready to compete on the highest level. Not because of the physical things, but because I need motivation every day."

Our View: Hasek should have a spot reserved in the Hall of Fame, and left the game with the Stanley Cup held above his head. The two-time Hart Trophy winner notched 389 wins, which ranks him third among active goalies. He is also the only goalie to win the MVP award twice.
Brooks Orpik, D, Pittsburgh PenguinsMonday 6/9, 10:03 AM CT
Defenseman Brooks Orpik can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: He didn't always get along with coach Michel Therrien, but wants to remain in Pittsburgh, likely to have another shot a hoisting the Stanley Cup. Orpik is a hard hitter and would draw interest from several teams if he is to enter the free agent market.
Josef Melichar, D, Carolina HurricanesMonday 6/9, 7:45 AM CT
Defenseman Josef Melichar is believed to be on the Rangers' radar, among other clubs, according to the NY Post.

Our View: He last played in the NHL for Pittsburgh back in 2006-07, and scored one goal and 11 assists over 70 games. He will turn 30-years old in January.
Branko Radivojevic, RW, Minnesota WildMonday 6/9, 7:31 AM CT
Branko Radivojevic will not return to the Wild, according to the Star Tribune. He has opted to sign a two-year deal to play with Spartak in the Russian Premiere League.

Our View: He is recovering from reconstructive surgery on his right knee to repair a torn ACL suffered in Game 2 of the Minnesota's first-round playoff series with Colorado. The recovery time was believed to be four to six months. He held little fantasy value, as he only scored seven goals and 10 assists over 73 games in 2007-08.
Darren McCarty, RW, Detroit Red WingsMonday 6/9, 7:26 AM CT
Darren McCarty would like to stick around in Detroit, and doesn't want to end his career yet, according to the Detroit News. GM Ken Holland expects to offer him a deal.

Our View: McCarty notched one assist over three regular season games, as he took almost the entire year to make it back to the NHL.
Chris Chelios, D, Detroit Red WingsMonday 6/9, 7:06 AM CT
Chris Chelios isn't considering retirement and will meet with Detroit to work out a one-year deal, according to the Detroit News. He will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery this summer, and would be willing to accept a smaller role next season to keep playing. He said, "It's never been a money issue. Hopefully, I'll be at this locker stall again next season."

Our View: Chelios is no longer a fantasy option, but provides strong veteran leadership and experience to the Red Wings, and depth to their defense.
Dallas Drake, RW, Monday 6/9, 7:01 AM CT
Dallas Drake will decide within the upcoming weeks if he wants to return for another season in the NHL, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: Drake holds no fantasy value, but provides the Wings with a tough presence as a forward, and notched three goals and three assists over 65 games in 2007-08.
