Aaron Ward, D, Boston BruinsTuesday 5/20, 5:39 PM CT
The Boston Bruins re-signed veteran defenseman Aaron Ward to a multiyear contract extension, notes FoxSports.com. Ward, 35, had five goals and eight assists in 65 regular-season games for the Bruins last year, as well as one assist in six playoff games.

Our View: He has 40 goals and 88 assists in a 13-year career with five teams. Ward was the fifth overall pick in the 1991 NHL draft by the Winnipeg Jets. He was traded to Detroit in June 1993, and played on two Red Wings Stanley Cup championship teams.
Jason Smith, D, Ottawa SenatorsTuesday 5/20, 10:49 AM CT
Jason Smith is likely to have shoulder surgery soon, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer.

Our View: The enforcer is a team captain, but is likely to sign with another team in free agency. He fought through pain, but his mobility is a significant concern for the Flyers and they want to get quicker defensively.
Mattias Norstrom, D, Dallas StarsTuesday 5/20, 8:58 AM CT
It has been revealed that Mattias Norstrom has been playing through a sports hernia during the Stars' playoff run, according to the Dallas Morning News. Coach Dave Tippett said, "It's phenomenal he can get through that."

Our View: The enforcer will be an unrestricted free agent this off-season and his toughness and dedication could help in his bid for a favorable new deal.
Chris Chelios, D, Detroit Red WingsTuesday 5/20, 8:52 AM CT
As expected, Chris Chelios sat out of Monday's series-clinching Game 6 against the Stars, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: Chelios has been bothered by a leg injury for the last few weeks, and was replaced by Andreas Lilja in the Wings' lineup.
Brad Richards, C, Dallas StarsTuesday 5/20, 7:24 AM CT
Brad Richards notched an assist in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Red Wings in Game 6, and has scored a point in four straight games of the series, which Detroit won 4-2.

Our View: Richards was the most consistent performer during the playoffs for Dallas, as he scored 15 points over 18 games.
Stephane Robidas, D, Dallas StarsTuesday 5/20, 7:13 AM CT
Stephane Robidas scored the lone goal for Dallas in their 4-1 loss to Detroit in Game 6 on Monday.

Our View: The Stars have been eliminated 4-2, but Robidas performed well, by his standards, as he scored two goals and an assist in the series. He only scored 26 points over 82 games in the regular season.
