Jamal Williams, DT, San Diego ChargersThursday 7/3, 11:36 PM CT
According to NFLDraftScout.com, the 2008 supplemental draft, which had tentatively been scheduled for next week, has been cancelled. "No one applied at the time of the deadline," 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan confirmed Thursday. The NFL sent out a memo to all 32 teams informing them of the announcement Wednesday. Nine players have been selected in the supplemental draft over the past decade, including Chargers Pro Bowl nose guard Jamal Williams.

Our View: There have been several articles recently that mentioned Southern California middle linebacker Rey Maualuga, Oklahoma State tight Brandon Pettigrew and Mississippi State offensive tackle Michael Brown as candidates for the draft.
Brett Favre, QB, New York JetsThursday 7/3, 8:15 PM CT
What would the NFL Sunday Soap Opera be without some offseason/pre-training camp noise? PackerNews.com is reporting that talk of a possible return by Brett Favre continued to dominate the news in Green Bay. The report notes that the Packers haven’t changed their response to Wednesday’s revelation Favre may want to unretire.

Our View: The Green Bay Press-Gazette has been reporting for several months that Favre had been having second thoughts to retiring. Wednesday’s story, which was first reported by ESPN, suggests that Favre called McCarthy and expressed a desire to play for the Packers in 2008. All indications are the organization would rather see Favre stay retired which would open the door for the quarterback to play for an organization other than Green Bay. No matter what happens, Favre has opened Pandora's box, and it is a lose-lose situation for the Packers front office. They allow Farve to return and noise will be make about the "future", release him and let him play a year with another team and locals claim blasphemy.
Kyle Williams, DT, Buffalo BillsThursday 7/3, 8:09 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Buffalo Bills have in fact extended Kyle Williams to a three-year contract Thursday, which could reach $14.4 million if he reaches sscheduled incentives, this according to Scout.com. Williams is guaranteed $5.2 million over the next two years.

Our View: Williams will challenge John McCargo and free agent acquisition Spencer Johnson for a starting tackle spot next to veteran Marcus Stroud.
Brett Favre, QB, New York JetsThursday 7/3, 3:20 PM CT
Brett Favre's agent, Bus Cook, has been privately saying his client wants to play for the Carolina Panthers, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View: The Favre saga gets weirder and weirder. Jake Delhomme is the starter in Carolina for the time being, and there is no word on if the Panthers would be interested in Favre.
Marshawn Lynch, RB, Buffalo BillsThursday 7/3, 2:54 PM CT
Marshawn Lynch will play more on third down this season, which should translate into more receptions for the second year pro, according to BuffaloBills.com. "I think this year he'll be an integral part of our third down package," said Buffalo offensive coordinator Turk Schonert

Our View: This will only enhance Lynch's fantasy value, especially in PPR leagues. Even if he does get a minor suspension for his recent traffic incident, he remains a top fantasy running back.
Kyle Williams, DT, Buffalo BillsThursday 7/3, 12:41 PM CT
The Bills Insider reports that the team has come to terms with Kyle Williams on a three-year $14.5 million extension.

Our View: Williams fills the role of nose tackle exceptionally well for the Bills and it appears that they took notice. Look for Williams to help improve an already solid defense.
Adam Jones, CB, Dallas CowboysThursday 7/3, 12:38 PM CT
Adam Jones claims that he will stay in Dallas for the three weeks of downtime before the start of training camp, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He is said to be a regular at team headquarters.

Our View: Jones continues to do everything he can to get reinstated once he is eligible on September 1. However, his past proves that he is not the most reliable guy around.
Julius Peppers, DE, Carolina PanthersThursday 7/3, 12:25 PM CT
The Carolina Panthers are still interested in giving Julius Peppers a big money long-term deal despite his 2.5 sack campaign a year ago, according to Pro Football Weekly. Talks will turn serious if Peppers can show up to camp in good shape.

Our View: Who knows what happened to Peppers last season, as his play declined dramatically. The Panthers seem to think that was just a hiccup and he will continue to terrorize quarterbacks. His status in IDP fantasy leagues remains high, as he has double-digit sack totals in five of previous six seasons before last year's debacle.
Derrick Johnson, LB, Kansas City ChiefsThursday 7/3, 12:18 PM CT
With Jared Allen now in Minnesota, the Chiefs need to somehow generate pressure on the quarterback, and will look to send Derrick Johnson on blitzes to help fill that void, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Johnson was already an attractive option in fantasy IDP leagues, and this news raises his stock even higher.
Josh Cribbs, WR, Cleveland BrownsThursday 7/3, 12:05 PM CT
With Joe Jurevicius undergoing yet another knee procedure, Josh Cribbs is getting more reps at wide receiver, but he has had trouble with dropping passes in offseason workouts, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Cribbs is one of the best return men in the business, but he is not adept at catching passes, with just 14 receptions in his three-year career. If Jurevicius were out for an extended period of time, however, Cribbs would likely take on an increased role and he may have value in fantasy leagues.
Chris Henry, WR, Cincinnati BengalsThursday 7/3, 11:22 AM CT
Chris Henry appeared on a radio talk show and says he has changed his ways, according to the Dayton Daily News. "I'm going to stay away from the wrong people and never put myself in a bad situation," he said.

Our View: That's nice to hear, but the person he has to convince is Roger Goodell. Should he actually stay out of trouble, Henry is talented enough to warrant fantasy consideration, but until he latches on to a team, it's a moot point.
Tyjuan Hagler, LB, Indianapolis ColtsThursday 7/3, 11:09 AM CT
Tyjuan Hagler has torn a pectoral muscle while lifting weights, according to the Indianapolis Star. Hagler was expected to be a starter at strong-side linebacker for the Colts this season.

Our View: It is unknown how long Hagler will be out, but if he can get back quickly enough, it will not affect the Colts team defense for fantasy players.
Najeh Davenport, RB, Pittsburgh SteelersThursday 7/3, 10:36 AM CT
The Arizona Cardinals are not interested in free agent running back Najeh Davenport, according to the Arizona Republic. Davenport had earlier stated his desire to play for the Cardinals or Detroit Lions.

Our View: Davenport should be able to find a home somewhere as a back-up. He had a nice season in that role for the Steelers, but was made expendable when the team drafted Rashard Mendenhall.
Michael Robinson, RB, San Francisco 49ersThursday 7/3, 10:18 AM CT
Speaking of running back Michael Robinson, new offensive coordinator Mike Martz expressed noteworthy expectations of pairing him with Frank Gore, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "One can block for the other, or (we can) use them both as receivers," Martz said. "There's all kinds of things that can happen out of that."

Our View: Robinson is worth keeping an eye on as a potential handcuff selection for Gore. Gore has been healthy of late, but does have an injury history.
DeShaun Foster, RB, San Francisco 49ersThursday 7/3, 10:12 AM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle continues to doubt DeShaun Foster's ability to earn playing time this season. Frank Gore and Michael Robinson have both earned substantial praise from Mike Martz.

Our View: It appears that Michael Robinson, not Foster, will be the handcuff selection for owner's who take Frank Gore early on in drafts.
Jevon Kearse, DE, Tennessee TitansThursday 7/3, 10:08 AM CT
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Jevon Kearse says the Eagles will regret not re-signing him.

Our View: Kearse says people will be surprised at how well he plays this season. That's good news for fantasy owners, and we're betting he can back it up.
Daniel Bullocks, S, Detroit LionsThursday 7/3, 10:05 AM CT
Daniel Bullocks and Gerald Alexander figure to battle for the strong safety position in Detroit.

Our View: Detroit's front seven appears very weak which means the winner of this job will see a lot of tackling opportunities. For owners in IDP leagues, this is a position battle worth watching.
James Hardy, WR, Buffalo BillsThursday 7/3, 9:27 AM CT
With the signing of Matt Forte by the Chicago Bears, the Buffalo Bills have the salary parameters in place to work on a deal for James Hardy, according to BuffaloBills.com. Forte was taken three spots ahead of Hardy in the draft.

Our View: Rookie wide receivers generally struggle in the NFL, so anybody taking a flyer on Hardy in fantasy drafts should keep that in mind. However, signing a deal without missing training camp would only help his cause.
Charles Grant, DE, New Orleans SaintsThursday 7/3, 8:57 AM CT
Charles Grant has been sued for $5 million for his involvement in a fight that led to the shooting death of Korynda Reed, who was pregnant, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Grant was indicted on involuntary manslaughter charges in the incident but has maintained his innocence. A trial date has not been set.
