Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit LionsThursday 4/10, 10:51 AM CT
Calvin Johnson can still feel the back injury that he sustained as a rookie last season, according to the Detroit News. Johnson stated, "I still feel it, but I can do everything I need to do on the field. I know it's there but it doesn't hurt. That's what really stopped me. That's really why I couldn't run. It bothered me the whole season. I'd take a little something every week just to get through the game. When you try to push off the ball and stuff, it hurts." He also expects to make a bigger impact this season, as he stated, "Last year, I'd say I could have done twice as good. If the top is 10, I'd say I was a five last year. I expect a 10 this year." Sounds like Johnson will be good to go heading into his second pro season in 2008, and his fantasy stock will continue to rise.
Earnest Graham, RB, Tampa Bay BuccaneersThursday 4/10, 10:45 AM CT
Earnest Graham is reportedly close to signing a new deal with the Buccaneers, according to the Tampa Tribune. Graham noted, "The workouts are all voluntary right now and we've got some family things we're doing, so that's why I'm not there. It's not because of the contract. That's going good; it's almost there. And I plan to be there when the next voluntary workouts begin after the draft." Graham broke out with 1222 total yards in 2007, and he should be a top priority for the team to sign.
Hank Poteat, CB, New York JetsThursday 4/10, 10:40 AM CT
Hank Poteat could stay with the Jets, according to the NY Daily News. The team is still reportedly interested in re-signing him, but they cannot offer him more than the league salary minimum because they’re being tapped by Dewayne Robertson’s $11 million cap figure. The Patriots were also reportedly interested in Poteat.
Chris Henry, WR, Thursday 4/10, 10:34 AM CT
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that acquiring troubled receiver Chris Henry is not in his plans, according to the Star Telegram. He was a college team-mate of newly acquired cornerback Pacman Jones (at West Virginia) but it remains unlikely they will be re-united in Dallas. Henry was cut by the Bengals last week after an alleged assault, and he could face a season long suspension by the NFL.
B.J. Sams, RB, Kansas City ChiefsThursday 4/10, 7:41 AM CT
B.J. Sams has signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs, according to the Chicago Sun Times. The former member of the Ravens has been signed to fill a void in their return game, which Eddie Drummond was not able to handle following the departure of Dante Hall. With that said, his fantasy value will come primarily on special teams.
Vernon Gholston, DE, New York JetsThursday 4/10, 7:34 AM CT
Vernon Gholston is a possible target for the Raiders with their fourth overall pick, according to ProFootballTalk. A league source stated that there are "strong indications" that Oakland will select Gholston. His draft stock has improved greatly as a result of strong pre-draft workouts. He would likely be a starter right away in Oakland.
Michael Boley, LB, Atlanta FalconsThursday 4/10, 7:28 AM CT
Michael Boley has signed a restricted free agent contract tender with the team, according to the AP. Terms of the contract were not released. The Falcons had to lock him up as the rising star registered 109 tackles, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions in 2007.
Robert McCune, LB, Baltimore RavensThursday 4/10, 7:23 AM CT
The Ravens have re-signed exclusive-rights free agent Robert Mccune, according to the Carroll County Times. He only made four tackles in 2007, and his fantasy value remains limited.
Chris Carr, CB, Tennessee TitansThursday 4/10, 7:04 AM CT
Chris Carr is likely going to replace the departed Pacman Jones in the return game, according to the Tennessean. Carr was a solid returner for the Raiders and stated, "Pacman did a great job in the return game in '06. Hopefully we can get to that level again if I am the guy back there. I am very confident in my football skills, in my skills as a returner, I know that. I think we can do very well because I don't consider myself average. I just want to do what I can to help. We could have five touchdowns on kickoffs and people could say they still want Pacman back there, but I don't worry about that kind of stuff. I know there are a lot of good special teams guys on this team who will make my job easier if I am back there." Carr did not have any interceptions in 2007, and his fantasy value will come primarily on special teams.
