Lorenzo Booker, RB, Philadelphia EaglesTuesday 4/1, 10:19 PM CT
New Miami coach Tony Sparano appears to like what he seems from running back Lorenzo Booker, telling the Palm Beach Post that Booker is "a guy that when you watch, he jumps off the film a little bit. He's interesting in that he's a guy that you've got to get touches for. You've got to find a way to get Lorenzo the ball. I think there's a role... He's going to be out there." Booker didn't see the field much in his rookie season, and with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams still around, it doesn't seem like he would be in line for much playing time in his second year, either. Booker has some talent, though, so perhaps he can force his way onto the field.
Shaun Alexander, RB, Tuesday 4/1, 7:38 PM CT
Shaun Alexander recently had the cast removed from his wrist but is wearing a splint, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. He is scheduled to have the wrist tested and examined shortly. It is widely believed that Alexander will be released before June.
Olindo Mare, K, Seattle SeahawksTuesday 4/1, 7:35 PM CT
The Seahawks signed Olindo Mare to a two-year-deal last week, but they will look at the top kickers in the draft if they're available in the later rounds, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. Mare still has a very strong leg but has been extremely inaccurate in recent years. It sounds as if he'll have some competition for the starting job.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 4/1, 3:47 PM CT
The Cincinnati Bengals would like to sign receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh to a contract extension, according to Pro Football Weekly. The two sides have been talking since the third week in February about a contract extension. Houshmandzadeh, who is scheduled to make $2.252 million in 2008, compiled 112 receptions last year and his value may never be higher, considering his production in recent seasons.
J.P. Losman, QB, Buffalo BillsTuesday 4/1, 3:39 PM CT
So far, there’s a serious lack of suitors that have come knocking on the Buffalo Bills' door inquiring about acquiring disgruntled quarterback J.P. Losman, according to Pro Football Weekly. Losman has asked for a trade following his demotion behind starter Trent Edwards, a request that the Bills would be happy to oblige should a reasonable offer come their way. The Bills continue to harbor the belief that they’ll work out a deal for the quarterback, though it’s unlikely there will be any action until after the NFL draft.
Jay Cutler, QB, Denver BroncosTuesday 4/1, 3:26 PM CT
Jay Cutler ripped into wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who suffered a gash on his right forearm while horsing around with a brother last month, according to USA Today. "Yeah, he's not my favorite person right now," Cutler said Tuesday in his first offseason interview. "I mean, I support him, but it's always something with him right now. You can't have that." Cutler said with Jeremy Bates taking over the passing game, the offseason work is important and now Marshall won't be available until the start of training camp in late July at the earliest. Cutler said he wanted to work on new formations and plays and now those are things that might not even come together in camp. Marshall stated recently that he needs to grow up both on and off the field, and it’s apparent that at least one teammate feels the same way.
Brandon McGowan, S, Chicago BearsTuesday 4/1, 3:20 PM CT
The Chicago Bears have re-signed safety Brandon McGowan to a one-year deal, worth $1.417 million, according to the Sports Network. McGowan played 14 games in 2007, starting nine, and finished sixth on the team with 80 tackles. He added his first two career interceptions, with one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 10 special teams tackles. McGowan will likely compete with oft-injured strong safety Mike Brown for the starting role in 2008.
Josh Reed, WR, Buffalo BillsTuesday 4/1, 3:13 PM CT
Josh Reed underwent back surgery in January to correct a disc problem, which was affecting his sciatic nerve and shooting pain down his leg, according to BuffaloBills.com. Reed is participating in the Bills’ offseason conditioning program, but is limited coming off the surgery. Reed is certain he'll be full speed by training camp, but is hoping he'll be able to participate and run routes in at least some of the spring organized team activities.
Colt Brennan, QB, Washington RedskinsTuesday 4/1, 2:26 PM CT
Colt Brennan, Hawaii's record-setting quarterback, will undergo hip surgery on April 7 to repair a torn labral in his right hip and will be sidelined eight to 12 weeks, according to SI.com. The announcement was made to NFL scouts at Hawaii's pro-day workout Tuesday at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., and means Brennan will drop from a projected middle round draft pick to a very late round pick.
Adam Jones, CB, Dallas CowboysTuesday 4/1, 2:21 PM CT
If the Dallas Cowboys trade for cornerback Pacman Jones, it likely will happen in the next few days, according to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. Owners, general managers and coaches are in Palm Beach through Wednesday for the league's annual meetings, allowing the Cowboys to meet face to face with Tennessee Titans' officials. "It's probable, if we're going to get something done, we'll do it while we're here at these meetings," Jerry Jones said. "We've got some more talks we've got to do with the Titans, and we will do that while we're here." Tennessee is asking for a fourth-round pick this year and a sixth-round pick next year that could become a fifth-rounder based on performance, according to a source. The Cowboys have been unwilling to part with a fourth-round choice, but they could make it enticing to the Titans by throwing in future picks based on Jones' performance.
Brodie Croyle, QB, Kansas City ChiefsTuesday 4/1, 2:09 PM CT
The Kansas City Chiefs' proposal calling for all players to tuck or cut long hair so it doesn't hang below the nameplate on their uniform was tabled until the next NFL owners meeting in May, according to ESPN. In delaying any vote on the hair issue, the NFL will have time to listen to feedback from the players association.
Joselio Hanson, CB, Philadelphia EaglesTuesday 4/1, 2:03 PM CT
The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed cornerback Joselio Hanson to a one-year contract, worth $1.147 million, according to the Kansas City Star. Hanson, 26, played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season, with four starts, and posted a career-high 45 tackles, with one sack and one fumble recovery. He will fill the nickel cornerback role in 2008, if the Eagles trade cornerback Lito Sheppard.
Trent Edwards, QB, Buffalo BillsTuesday 4/1, 1:50 PM CT
Head coach Dick Jauron envisions an offense with a faster tempo and more three-step drops, according to ESPN. Jauron thinks such an approach will help out his offensive line while playing to the strengths of his quarterbacks. "It makes sense for a lot of reasons," Jauron said. "Trent [Edwards] does get the ball out quickly. J.P. [Losman] can get it out quickly and be accurate. It will help our offensive line. It will change the tempo of the game." The Bills have a youthful foundation of skill position players, who will likely take time to come together as a cohesive offensive unit. The organization is also expected to draft a wide receiver, in an effort to increase the explosiveness of the offense.
Antonio Bryant, WR, Tampa Bay BuccaneersTuesday 4/1, 1:34 PM CT
Head coach Jon Gruden is very intrigued with troubled receiver Antonio Bryant, according to the St. Petersburg Times. "This kid, Antonio Bryant, if we can get him going, he can be very good," Gruden said. "When he plays, he plays good. Now, can we get him going and sustain it?" Bryant has talent evidenced by the fact that he was a 1,000-yard receiver as recently as 2005, when he posted 69 receptions, 1,009 yards and four scores with the Cleveland Browns. On the dark side, he was out of the NFL in 2007, and was arrested in 2006 on DUI charges, which ultimately led to a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He has also had dustups with coaches Bill Parcells in Dallas and Mike Nolan in San Francisco. Bottom line… he was a cheap signing, who will have to work hard for every morsel of playing time in Tampa Bay.
Michael Strahan, DE, New York GiantsTuesday 4/1, 1:22 PM CT
General manger Jerry Reese expects defensive end Michael Strahan to suit up for a 16th season, according to the New York Daily News. "We haven't had any conversation right now," Reese said. "We'll sit down and he'll let me know if he wants to play or not. My gut feeling is I think he will play another year. That's just my gut feeling. That may be out in left field somewhere." Strahan, 36, is due to make $4 million this season, the final year of his contract. Giants’ co-owner John Mara has indicated the team is willing to give him a raise.
Shaun Rogers, DT, Cleveland BrownsTuesday 4/1, 1:16 PM CT
Shaun Rogers is a big part of head coach Romeo Crennel's plan for strengthening his team's defensive line, according to the Detroit News. Crennel will play Rogers at nose tackle and right end, and expects him to be a force at both positions. Rogers' weight was an issue in Detroit, but Crennel said it looks like he has it under control. There have been reports that Rogers' weight is in the 400-pound range. He played at about 370 or 380 in Detroit last year. "He's about 50 pounds less than that," Crennel said Tuesday at the NFL meetings. Rogers, who played tackle almost exclusively in his seven seasons in Detroit, could receive a bump in his IDP value if he is moved to the edge on passing downs.
Ted Ginn, WR, Miami DolphinsTuesday 4/1, 1:10 PM CT
Head coach Tony Sparano said Miami receivers Ted Ginn and Derek Hagan were performing well during the offseason program, according to the Miami Herald. Sparano singled out Ginn as a player with great ability who is improving his route running skills. Keep an eye on Ginn as a potential sleeper, as he posted three or more receptions in six of the last seven games of the 2007 season.
Jason Taylor, DE, Washington RedskinsTuesday 4/1, 1:02 PM CT
Head coach Tony Sparano said he still isn't certain whether the Miami Dolphins will run a 3-4 or 4-3 defensive scheme, although its obvious they want to run a 3-4, according to the Miami Herald. When asked about his defense, Sparano said his starting front seven includes: defensive end Matt Roth, nose tackle Jason Ferguson, defensive end Vonnie Holiday, outside linebackers Jason Taylor and Joey Porter and inside linebackers Channing Crowder and Reggie Torbor. The head coach might have been tipping his hand, as those starters represent the front seven in a 3-4 alignment.
Ronnie Brown, RB, Miami DolphinsTuesday 4/1, 12:54 PM CT
Ronnie Brown, who is currently recovering from a torn ACL, is expected to be back by training camp, according to the Miami Herald. "We'll see how the thing goes, but right now I think in our minds Ronnie should be ready for training camp," head coach Tony Sparano said. The report mirrors several others that we have posted during the offseason. In other words, the news continues to be favorable for Brown, who is said to be working like a demon in relation to his rehab.
Kurt Warner, QB, Arizona CardinalsTuesday 4/1, 12:47 PM CT
The Arizona Cardinals continue to talk with quarterback Kurt Warner about extending his contract, according to the Arizona Republic. Warner's agent, Mark Bartelstein said this morning that he talked to Arizona general manager Rod Graves briefly last week and likely will have another conversation after the owner’s meetings conclude this week. Warner, who is entering the last year of his contract, is due to make $4 million in salary and has a $5 million cap figure. The team would like to keep the veteran field general around, and lower his cap number in the process.
Tedy Bruschi, LB, New England PatriotsTuesday 4/1, 12:41 PM CT
NFL owners voted 25-7 late this morning to approve a resolution to allow a communication device for a defensive player, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It gives a degree of equity to the defense," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. "You're still going to have to be prepared to signal in calls. It might enable some young players do more, earlier. We have had to play a lot of young linebackers. It will help young players be a more integral part of the defense (because they can be instructed from sideline)." Each offensive and defensive team is now permitted to have one player on the field with a speaker in his helmet.
Lito Sheppard, CB, Philadelphia EaglesTuesday 4/1, 12:35 PM CT
A league source said the Philadelphia Eagles have asked at least one team for a first-round draft choice in exchange for cornerback Lito Sheppard, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. A first-round pick would represent a healthy price tag for a player who has missed 14 games in the past three seasons because of injuries. An Eagles source said that second- and fifth-round picks would be the least the team should expect in return for Sheppard. Another team source has consistently said that the offers the Eagles have received for Sheppard have been good enough that it remains likely the team will trade the cornerback.
Donovan McNabb, QB, Philadelphia EaglesTuesday 4/1, 12:31 PM CT
The Philadelphia Eagles received three compensatory draft picks based on free agent losses from last season, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The three additional picks give the Eagles a total of 11 in the 2008 NFL draft. They have one pick in each of the first three rounds (19, 49 and 80 overall), two in the fourth round (115 and 131), one in the fifth round (154), four in the sixth round (184, 191, 200 and 203), and one in the seventh round (230).
D.J. Williams, LB, Denver BroncosTuesday 4/1, 12:24 PM CT
D.J. Williams will move to weak-side linebacker in 2008, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "I thought D.J. was a more natural (weak-side) linebacker," head coach Mike Shanahan said. Niko Koutouvides is projected to man the middle and free-agent Boss Bailey will play the strong side. Once again, we had already reported this news earlier in the offseason, but this comes straight from the horse’s mouth.
Keary Colbert, WR, Denver BroncosTuesday 4/1, 12:13 PM CT
Keary Colbert is projected to be a starter in the Denver offense, alongside Brandon Marshall, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "I like the type of person he [Colbert] is, you could see the way he played in the running game and the passing game, that's what we look for in a player," head coach Mike Shanahan said. We had already reported this news earlier in the offseason, but this update comes directly from Shanahan, for what it’s worth.
JaMarcus Russell, QB, Oakland RaidersTuesday 4/1, 12:06 PM CT
Earlier in the offseason it had been reported that second-year quarterback JaMarcus Russell was tipping the scales at 300-plus pounds, but head coach Lane Kiffin says that isn’t so, according to ESPN. Kiffin wouldn't say how much his prized player weighs, but emphasized that Russell is in good shape. Kiffin said he is fine with Russell playing in the 275-pound range and if Russell trimmed down to 260 or so he wouldn't be as effective because of his body frame.
JaMarcus Russell, QB, Oakland RaidersTuesday 4/1, 12:01 PM CT
The Oakland Raiders don’t have any second-, third- or fifth-round picks so head coach Lane Kiffin made it clear the organization, which is still very much in the rebuilding phase, will look at the possibility of trading out of the No. 4 pick, according to ESPN. "[Trading down] is something we're looking at," Kiffin said. Teams such as Carolina, at No. 13, or Chicago, at No. 14, or Dallas, which has the No. 22 and No. 28 picks, could be attracted by Oakland's top pick. Once again, we have questions about how much power Kiffin has in Oakland, but this report certainly adds to the intrigue at the top of the 2008 NFL draft.
Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland RaidersTuesday 4/1, 11:56 AM CT
Because of a surplus of running backs, including the newly re-signed Justin Fargas, head coach Lane Kiffin said the Oakland Raiders likely won't pursue Arkansas running back Darren McFadden with the No. 4 pick, according to ESPN. "[McFadden] is a phenomenal player, but we really don't have a big need at running back," Kiffin said. The head coach also stated the team’s biggest need is along the defensive line making Chris Long, Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis possibilities with the early first-round pick. We doubt Kiffin has the juice to make these statements, so tread carefully. Bottom line… if owner Al Davis decides he wants to draft McFadden, then the blazing fast running back will be a Raider.
Malcolm Kelly, WR, Washington RedskinsTuesday 4/1, 11:46 AM CT
Dick Jauron has no problems with the health of Oklahoma wide receiver Malcolm Kelly, whose knees have become a question mark heading into the draft, according to the Buffalo News. Asked about Kelly's knees, Jauron said today: "We feel good about it. Our staff was in Indianapolis with everybody else. There's nothing I'm aware of (that's a problem) at this point." Kelly, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery during his sophomore year, had a productive career at Oklahoma and didn’t miss any game action due to knee problems.
Mike Peterson, LB, Jacksonville JaguarsTuesday 4/1, 11:35 AM CT
Mike Peterson is expected to step back into his starting middle linebacker’s job, following a late-season wrist injury that caused him to miss the playoffs, according to Jaguars.com. “I think it’s safe to say Mike remains a starter. Justin Durant is a good football player. Clint Ingram is a good football player. And Daryl Smith is an outstanding football player,” head coach Jack Del Rio said. Peterson, 31, still produces at a high level when healthy, but keep in mind he has missed 17 games during the past two seasons due to various injuries.
John Beck, QB, Miami DolphinsTuesday 4/1, 11:26 AM CT
The Miami Dolphins definitely have plans for quarterback John Beck, according to the Miami Herald. The article states that when head coach Tony Sparano talks with his coaches and confidants about Miami's need to get leadership from younger players, he mentions the second-year quarterback. Sparano thinks great teams are ones with leaders that are in their third, fourth and fifth seasons - guys in their prime. Sparano has been mentioning Ronnie Brown, Ted Ginn Jr. and Beck as guys that will be the nucleus of the team in the next couple of years.
Ruvell Martin, WR, Green Bay PackersTuesday 4/1, 11:20 AM CT
Ruvell Martin has signed his exclusive-rights contract, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The Green Packers haven't officially announced the signing, but it was a forgone conclusion that Martin would return. He doesn't have enough NFL tenure to qualify for free agency.
Chris Henry, WR, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 4/1, 11:14 AM CT
In his latest brush with the law, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was cited earlier this month for driving a vehicle with an expired license plate, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Cincinnati police pulled his red, 2007 Land Rover over March 16 in the 2100 block of Vine Street in University Heights, and Henry paid a $149 fine on March 26. This is minor stuff in the grand scheme of things, but this incident seems to point to Henry being unable to take care of mundane tasks in his everyday life. At this point, you would think Henry would be doing everything possible to keep his name out of the news.
Jared Lorenzen, QB, Indianapolis ColtsTuesday 4/1, 11:05 AM CT
The New York Giants have re-signed backup quarterback Jared Lorenzen, according to the New York Daily News. Lorenzen, who signed a one-year tender offer worth $927,000, will be in an interesting summer battle with quarterbacks Anthony Wright and newly signed David Carr for the two backup spots behind Eli Manning. Lorenzen completed 4 of his 8 passes last season for 28 yards, and those are his only regular-season passes during three years in the league.
Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 4/1, 10:55 AM CT
Head coach Marvin Lewis said Chad Johnson has put himself in a difficult situation with his incessant trade demands, but he's willing to welcome him back, according to CincinnatiBengals.com. "Unfortunately Chad put himself in that situation," Lewis said. "A lot of people who really had an affection for him fan-wise and people around the league see him in a different light and that's unfortunate. Some of the things he's gone on record and said one way or the other he's going to have to deal with them one way or the other. If he does it the right way, I'm willing to take the bullets again." Lewis also advised his team to avoid letting the "Chadgate" controversy to wreck their season.
Rudi Johnson, RB, Detroit LionsTuesday 4/1, 10:51 AM CT
While reiterating Chad Johnson is staying put and challenging his players "to grow up," head coach Marvin Lewis also stated his offense is going to go back to the basics, according to CincinnatiBengals.com. "This is going to be what's important," Lewis said. "Everybody thinks it's cute to throw the ball around the lot, but you don't win games throwing the ball around the lot." Cincinnati passed the ball 57 percent of the time last season. It’s easy to say your team is going to run the ball more, but in reality the Bengals defense probably isn’t good enough to keep the team close in games, which often leads to more passing.
Kenny Irons, RB, Tuesday 4/1, 10:43 AM CT
Head coach Marvin Lewis said running back Kenny Irons won't be available for the May and June camps, according to CincinnatiBengals.com. Irons, who missed the entire 2007 season, is currently rehabbing from reconstructive surgery on his left knee. The surgery occurred in August, so there is a chance he could be ready for training camp. Stay tuned.
Gus Frerotte, QB, Minnesota VikingsTuesday 4/1, 10:36 AM CT
With the Houston Texans apparently intent on keeping quarterback Sage Rosenfels, indications are strong this morning that the Minnesota Vikings are nearing an agreement with free agent quarterback Gus Frerotte, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Frerotte, who also has visited the Green Bay Packers, could agree to terms in the next few days. He would serve as a veteran backup for starter Tarvaris Jackson.
Sage Rosenfels, QB, Houston TexansTuesday 4/1, 10:33 AM CT
Houston head coach Gary Kubiak made it clear this morning that quarterback Matt Schaub’s health makes it difficult to trade Sage Rosenfels, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “He’s important to our football team,” Kubiak said. “Our starter right now physically has a problem, coming off shoulder surgery, so Sage is very important to our football team.” Some of Kubiak’s comments could be posturing. But they also make sense. Why would the Texans, who have playoff aspirations in 2008, trade a relatively young but proven backup quarterback when their starter’s health is in question?
Johnny Jolly, DT, Green Bay PackersTuesday 4/1, 10:23 AM CT
Johnny Jolly is making good progress in his rehabilitation from a shoulder injury, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Jolly, who was placed on injured reserve last year because of the injured shoulder, is penciled in at starting defensive tackle.
Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay PackersTuesday 4/1, 10:18 AM CT
Among the rumors circulating at the owners’ meetings was the Green Bay Packers' apparent interest in veteran quarterbacks A.J. Feeley of the Philadelphia Eagles and J.P. Losman of the Buffalo Bills, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The Packers definitely have a need with only Dalton Bell on the depth chart behind Aaron Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay PackersTuesday 4/1, 10:09 AM CT
The Green Bay Packers were awarded a fourth-round draft pick (135th overall) when the league handed out its compensatory picks at the NFL annual owners meetings, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The compensatory pick is based on the Packers’ net losses in free agency the previous year. Last season, Green Bay lost running back Ahman Green and tight end David Martin and signed cornerback Frank Walker. The additional selection gives Green Bay eight picks in the April 26-27 draft. They have a pick in every round except the sixth — plus an extra pick in the second and fourth rounds.
Chad Johnson, WR, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 4/1, 10:01 AM CT
The root of receiver Chad Johnson's problems with the Cincinnati Bengals is money, according to the Houston Chronicle. The article speculates that the Bengals' front office could unload Johnson on draft day to a team that can afford to give him a new deal with at least $20 million in guaranteed money. Johnson is due to receive $3 million in 2008, and he counts $6.3 million against the Bengals’ salary cap.
Brandon Frye, T, Houston TexansTuesday 4/1, 9:40 AM CT
The Houston Texans have re-signed offensive tackle Brandon Frye to an undisclosed contract, according to Yahoo! Sports. Frye, a sixth-round pick, spent half of the 2007 season on the Texans’ practice squad. He was inactive for the final eight games.
C.C. Brown, S, Houston TexansTuesday 4/1, 9:37 AM CT
The Houston Texans have re-signed starting strong safety C.C. Brown to an undisclosed contract, according to Yahoo! Sports. Brown, 25, who started all 16 games in 2007, compiled 83 tackles, one interception and two forced fumbles last year.
Chris Redman, QB, Atlanta FalconsTuesday 4/1, 9:29 AM CT
The Atlanta Falcons have been awarded with an additional third-round pick (98th overall) in the 2008 NFL draft for their free agent losses last season, according to the Sporting News. The Falcons now have the third pick overall, three choices in the second round and two more in the third to utilize in their massive rebuilding effort.
Josh McCown, QB, Carolina PanthersTuesday 4/1, 9:15 AM CT
NFL owners unanimously approved Wayne Huizenga's sale of 50 percent of the Miami Dolphins to New York real estate billionaire Stephen Ross on Monday at the league meetings, according to ESPN. "This is a bittersweet moment for us," Huizenga said, "but we'll be staying on a little longer. I am pleased that when my time comes to turn it over, that Steve will be a great owner." Huizenga will remain as managing partner of the club for the near future, setting no timetable for when Ross will take command. Ross is spending about $550 million for his share of the team and will have options to buy up to 95 percent of the Dolphins. The Dolphins haven't been to the playoffs since 2001, but Ross was still eager to invest in the franchise, valued last year by Forbes Magazine at $942 million.
Tom Brady, QB, New England PatriotsTuesday 4/1, 9:07 AM CT
Bill Belichick emphatically swears there are no new revelations to come regarding Spygate, according to ESPN. "I think they've addressed everything they possibly can address," the New England Patriots coach said Tuesday morning, disclosing he had been re-interviewed after the Super Bowl about allegations that former team employee Matt Walsh had illegal tapes. "I've addressed so many questions so many times from so many people I don't know what else the league could ask." Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that the NFL had spoken again with Belichick and other Patriots employees after last January's Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants. The league continues to negotiate an agreement with Walsh, who claims to have evidence that would further implicate the New England organization.
Tom Brady, QB, New England PatriotsTuesday 4/1, 8:56 AM CT
Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league is ''making progress'' in arranging a conversation with former New England Patriots’ employee Matt Walsh, who reportedly might have information on allegations that New England taped St. Louis' walk-through before a Super Bowl game, according to the Miami Herald. ''I'm a little frustrated by it,'' Goodell said. ``Matt Walsh is free to speak with anybody. We've met with over 50 people. He's the only one who has conditions.'' New England owner Robert Kraft has said the allegations are unfounded, and that his organization would be exonerated in the end.
Josh McCown, QB, Carolina PanthersTuesday 4/1, 8:47 AM CT
Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga indicated Monday that teams do not appear interested in trading for Miami's No. 1 overall draft pick, according to the Miami Herald. Huizenga said the way this draft is evolving, ``the top four or five picks -- a lot of teams aren't willing to spend the money to move up. This is one of those off years where no team really wants to move up.'' The Dolphins would love to move down for additional picks, given the fact they have many holes to fill, but it appears they are stuck in the one hole.
Adam Jones, CB, Dallas CowboysTuesday 4/1, 8:41 AM CT
The Dallas Morning News is disputing a recent Ft. Worth Star-Telegram report that the Dallas Cowboys have a new contract in place for cornerback Pacman Jones. "No contract has been done. Everybody is wasting their time," Jones' agent Manny Arora said. "The original contract is in place. There is no deal with Dallas. I would like to keep the contract as it is." The Tennessee Titans and Dallas are still working on a deal for draft picks.
Vince Young, QB, Tennessee TitansTuesday 4/1, 8:35 AM CT
The Tennessee Titans were awarded a fourth-round pick in this year’s NFL draft as a compensatory selection for the unrestricted free agents they lost last off-season, according to the Nashville City Paper. The Titans will have pick No. 134 overall in the draft as their compensatory selection, bringing their total number of picks in the draft to seven.
Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati BengalsTuesday 4/1, 8:29 AM CT
The Cincinnati Bengals gained four additional picks - compensation for free agents lost in 2007 - in the NFL draft later this month, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Bengals were awarded with a third-round pick (97th overall), an additional sixth-round pick (207th overall) and two more in the seventh round (244th and 246th overall). The Bengals currently have 10 total selections in the 2008 draft. Prior to the compensatory pick announcement the Bengals had one selection each in Rounds 1 through 6. The Bengals traded their original pick in Round 7 to St. Louis for backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Malcolm Kelly, WR, Washington RedskinsTuesday 4/1, 8:20 AM CT
In an e-mail circulated to league general managers and scouting personnel, agent Chad Speck declared his client Malcolm Kelly fully healed and ready to participate in his pro day April 9 at the University of Oklahoma, according to the Nashville City Paper. Kelly, who is regarded as one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2008 draft, was hampered by a quadriceps tear. But in the letter from Speck, Dr. Michael Hatrak said Kelly’s injury showed “no further risk of injury” and that a MRI showed “all other structures assessed were within normal limits.”
Steve McNair, QB, Baltimore RavensTuesday 4/1, 8:09 AM CT
The Baltimore Ravens received the maximum four compensatory picks in this month's draft, according to the Baltimore Sun. The Ravens were given last pick in the third round (99th overall) for losing linebacker Adalius Thomas in free agency last season, marking the highest compensatory pick ever received by the team. "Anytime you get to pick one of the top 100 players in the draft, we think that gives us an advantage," general manager Ozzie Newsome said.
