Chris Long, DE, St. Louis RamsThursday 3/20, 2:56 PM CT
Virginia defensive end Chris Long is believed to be the frontrunner for Miami's 1.01 draft pick, not only because he's used to Parcells' methods via Cavaliers coach Al Groh — a Tuna disciple — but he has the smarts and measurables to play in any system, according to USA Today. Long would also be the perfect successor on and off the field to Jason Taylor, who is believed to be on the trading block despite Parcells' denials.
Jason Peters, T, Buffalo BillsThursday 3/20, 2:48 PM CT
Jason Peters, who had surgery to repair a torn groin muscle, is on schedule to take part in the Buffalo’s offseason workout program, according to USA Today. "The offensive staff stood on the table for him," coach Rod Marinelli said. "They fought. They really wanted him back." With new offensive coordinator Jim Colletto running the show, the Lions plan to run a simpler, more-balanced offense, and they thought Bell would be a solid fit. The running game will feature zone runs like the ones Bell once ran in Denver, where he racked up 1,946 yards over two seasons. Bell’s stock is definitely on the rise with this news and the recent release of Kevin Jones. But keep in mind, the team is likely to draft a rookie runner during the 2008 NFL draft.

"I have no favorites, I have no favorites at all," Nolan said. "You want to get the best one out there, because the players are looking. You're a football team, it's about winning. And your football team performs better when they know that jobs are won or lost on the field. That's where this will happen." Nolan added that on-field production would be the determining factor as to which player wins the job and that Smith's status as a former No. 1 pick will play no role in the final decision.

Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey showed great burst in pass rush drills, and enough agility during his Pro Day, that scouts from teams utilizing the 3-4 alignment have already begun scheduling private workouts, according to Yahoo! Sports. While Harvey’s burst makes him an intriguing fit as a 3-4 rush linebacker, his size, strength and long arms (82-inch wingspan) have most teams still viewing him as a better fit as a traditional 4-3 defensive end. The New York Jets, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, are among the teams interested in his services.
Michael Boulware, S, Minnesota VikingsThursday 3/20, 11:28 AM CT

This year I'm going to make sure I'm bigger, stronger, faster and even more productive than last year. They say 14 sacks was productive. I look at it if I get 15, then you never know that 15th sack could get you to the Super Bowl. So that's the way I look at it." Ware has posted 25.5 sacks over the past two seasons, and it appears he's working hard to improve those numbers going forward.

Abdul Hodge is making significant progress in his bid to return from surgery on both knees, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Hodge was placed on injured reserve last season after struggling with patellar tendinitis in his knees. The Packers are deep at linebacker with the recent signing of Brandon Chillar, so Hodge is no lock to make the opening day roster.
Brian Brohm, QB, Green Bay PackersThursday 3/20, 10:21 AM CT
The Baltimore Ravens will hold a private workout and visit with Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm next month, according to the Carroll County Times. Matt Turk, 39, agreed to a two-year, $2.35 million deal, which includes a $500,000 signing bonus, according to ESPN. Shaun Alexander, RB, Thursday 3/20, 9:31 AM CT
The most likely timeframe for the possible release of Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander is around April 1, according to ESPN. Alexander is still recovering from wrist surgery, which has held up his release. The expected plan is for Alexander to be listed as a pre-designated June 2 cap casualty. In doing that, Alexander would be a free agent once he's designated, and Seattle would get $4.475 million of cap relief in June.
Quinn Gray, QB, Indianapolis ColtsThursday 3/20, 9:25 AM CT
Quinn Gray will visit with the Houston Texans this weekend, according to Pro Football Talk. Gray has also visited with Oakland and Green Bay recently, but wasn’t offered a deal by either club. David Garrard, QB, Jacksonville JaguarsThursday 3/20, 9:06 AM CT
The agent for quarterback David Garrard said he hopes to reach a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the next few days, but left open the possibility the two sides won't agree on a new contract this year, according to Ultimate Jaguars. "Nothing is any different today than it was two months ago,'' Al Irby said. "It could take two days, two weeks or not get done at all. This is the way negotiations go. One minute you're going down the right track, but then a snag can set you back.'' If the two sides can't agree, Garrard would play out the final year of his current contract at just under $2 million and then become a free agent. The Jaguars would then have the option of slapping the franchise tag on him, which costs $10.7 million this year and will likely go up in the future.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, according to the Sports Network. Wilson signed with the Steelers as a free agent before the 2005 season after spending his first four seasons in the NFL with San Francisco. In three campaigns with Pittsburgh, he totaled 81 receptions for 1,162 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson was in the Allegheny County Jail last night awaiting arraignment on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after an incident at a restaurant with his girlfriend. It was his second scrape with the law in the past three months, and these issues appear to be the reason he was ultimately released.

Eric Moulds, WR, Tennessee TitansThursday 3/20, 8:20 AM CT
Eric Moulds has yet to schedule or take a single visit in unrestricted free agency, according to The City Paper. “There is nothing going on with Eric right now. I’m not sure what he’s going to do,” agent Bus Cook said. Moulds could get a nibble later in the year when teams start firming up their rosters, but his best days are clearly behind him.
Dewayne Robertson, DT, Denver BroncosThursday 3/20, 8:11 AM CT
The potential trade between New York and Denver for defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson is looking less likely to happen, according to a report on Newsday. Robertson failed his physical with Denver, but the Broncos were willing to overlook the bum knee since he hasn’t missed any games the past few seasons. The real snag is money. Robertson isn’t willing to reduce his salary demands to a number that Denver can live with. If the two teams are unable to work a deal, then Robertson will likely be cut before June, when the Jets owe him a $3 million roster bonus.
Ryan Grant, RB, Green Bay PackersThursday 3/20, 8:02 AM CT
Ryan Grant will work with the Green Bay Packers in the offseason without a contract, but to get him to training camp the organization will have to sign him to a contract well above the NFL minimum for a second-year pro, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. His agent, Alan Herman, said Grant will take part in all the team’s minicamps and workouts this spring, but that he will not sign the $370,000 minimum tender for an exclusive-rights player who has only one accrued season in the NFL. Grant is looking for a longer, far more lucrative deal after he rushed for 956 yards and averaged 5.1 yards a carry despite being the team’s primary halfback for only the final nine games of the season.
Tatum Bell, RB, Thursday 3/20, 8:01 AM CT
Tatum Bell has stated that his goal is to rush for 1300 yards in 2008, according to The Detroit News. He is hoping to be the Lions' starting RB, and also has his sights set on 15 touchdowns. The Lions will reportedly employ more running plays and will use the zone scheme that Bell had success with while in Denver. Former Pro-Bowl Fullback Gash commented on Bell and the new system,"Tatum possesses a lot of qualities that an NFL runner needs. He has good size at 213 pounds. He's fearless in the sense that he'll block for you. He's been a successful back in the NFL. He's still a young guy who has a lot left in his tank. Last year, I don't know if you want to count it. With the speed and what we're going to do, he fits the mold."
Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco 49ersThursday 3/20, 7:49 AM CT
Vernon Davis has gained praise from Coach Nolan, according to the SF Chronicle. Nolan was asked about Davis' route running skils and replied, "He's a wild horse kind of player rather than a polished tight end. Davis still has a lot to learn, but is better after the catch than Gates and Gonzalez. In terms of blocking, Davis is better than the other two could ever dream of being." Davis has potential to be an elite fantasy tight end.
Adrian Wilson, S, Arizona CardinalsThursday 3/20, 7:41 AM CT
Adrian Wilson's rehab from injuries to his heel and calf is going well, according to ArizonaCardinals.com.
