Kolby Smith, RB, Jacksonville JaguarsFriday 9/3, 1:43 PM CT
Kolby Smith has been released by the Jaguars, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: Smith has seen a bit of relevancy at points with the Chiefs that past few seasons but was unable to win a spot with Jacksonville. It remains to be seen if someone else will sign him.
Jason Hill, WR, San Francisco 49ersFriday 9/3, 1:41 PM CT
The 49ers have released Jason Hill, according to CSN's Matt Maiocco.

Our View: Hill had a chance to earn a role as the No. 3 receiver but was unable to take advantage of it. Dominique Zeigler beat him out.
Michael Robinson, RB, San Francisco 49ersFriday 9/3, 1:38 PM CT
The 49ers have released Michael Robinson, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: The former Penn State quarterback has been a special teamer for the 49ers for the past few seasons but was never able to carve out a role for himself on offense. Karl Paymah and Jason Hill were also released.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Seattle SeahawksFriday 9/3, 1:19 PM CT
T.J. Houshmandzadeh is increasingly unlikely to play for the Seahawks this season, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: It sounds more and more like the Seahawks may indeed cut him if they're unable to find a trade partner. His fantasy value certainly takes a hit, though he should latch on elsewhere before long, this assuming that he is indeed no longer in Seattle.
LenDale White, RB, Denver BroncosFriday 9/3, 11:49 AM CT
LenDale White has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and will miss the entire 2010 season as a result, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: Well, it looks like his tenure in Denver didn't go as planned. Look for Denver to consider signing another running back (possibly Derrick Ward?) given that both Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter are banged up.
Montario Hardesty, RB, Cleveland BrownsFriday 9/3, 11:09 AM CT
Further tests have confirmed that Montario Hardesty has a torn ACL in his left knee, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: He'll miss the entire 2010 season as a result. This comes a a major blow to the rookie, especially when you consider that Jerome Harrison has struggled throughout the preseason. James Davis now figures to back up Harrison, though Peyton Hillis will be in the mix as well.
Byron Leftwich, QB, Pittsburgh SteelersFriday 9/3, 10:47 AM CT
ESPN.com contradicts a report by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and states that Byron Leftwich has a sprained MCL in his left knee as opposed to a torn MCL.

Our View: Leftwich is still unlikely to be ready by Week 1 of the season, and it remains to be seen whether he'll be back anytime before Week 4. The Steelers have a bye in Week 5, and Ben Roethlisberger will be back under center in Week 6.
Dennis Dixon, QB, Pittsburgh SteelersFriday 9/3, 10:37 AM CT
Dennis Dixon is expected to open the season as Pittsburgh's starter following news that Byron Leftwich has sprained MCL, according to the ESPN.com.

Our View: It's unclear if Leftwich will be back by Week 2, 3 or 4, though neither is expected to have relevance after that, as Ben Roethlisberger's suspension has been reduced from six to four games. Dixon is a great athlete but does is too raw to be counted upon for consistent fantasy numbers.
Byron Leftwich, QB, Pittsburgh SteelersFriday 9/3, 10:34 AM CT
Byron Leftwich has been diagnosed with a torn MCL, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: He's out indefinitely as a result. This injury won't keep him out the entire season, though he'll almost surely miss the first four weeks of the season. With news that Ben Roethlisberger's suspension has been reduced to four games, that means that Leftwich has lost his chance to open the season as Pittsburgh's starter. Dennis Dixon now assumes the duties of keeping the Steelers afloat for the first four weeks.
Montario Hardesty, RB, Cleveland BrownsFriday 9/3, 10:26 AM CT
The early diagnosis on Montario Hardesty is that he's suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: He'll undergo more exams today just to make sure, but his status appears bleak. Assuming he does in fact have a torn ACL, he'll be out for the entire 2010 season. Such news would serve as a boost to Jerome Harrison's fantasy value and give James Davis value as a handcuff to Harrison.
Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh SteelersFriday 9/3, 10:23 AM CT
Ben Roethlisberger's original six-game suspension has been reduced to four games, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View: This is what we expected all along. Big Ben has been on good behavior since his original punishment by the NFL. He'll be back under center in Week 6 against Cleveland following a Week 5 bye.
Jason Davis, FB, New York JetsFriday 9/3, 9:36 AM CT
The Jets have released Jason Davis, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Davis was one of the featured characters on HBO's Hard Knocks and was trying to make the team as a backup fullback. It looks like he was beaten out by rookie John Conner and veteran Tony Richardson.
Larry Taylor, WR, New York JetsFriday 9/3, 9:33 AM CT
The Jets have released Larry Taylor, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Taylor was one of the featured characters on HBO's Hard Knocks and was trying to make the team on special teams. It looks like he was beaten out by David Clowney.
Derrick Ward, RB, Tampa Bay BuccaneersFriday 9/3, 9:31 AM CT
Derrick Ward will visit with the Texans today and could visit with Seattle soon after, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View: The Giants are another team that may show interest in their former back. Regardless of where Ward lands, he does not figure to open the season with any fantasy value.
Jason Campbell, QB, Oakland RaidersFriday 9/3, 9:25 AM CT
Jason Campbell (neck, wrist) claims that he'll be ready for Oakland's season opener against Tennessee, according to the Contra Costa Times. "Right now, I can't talk about the injuries or anything," Campbell said, "but come the Tennessee game, I'll be ready."

Our View: This is good news for the Raiders offense. Still, we don't recommend starting Campbell for fantasy purposes, unless possibly you happen to be in a two-quarterback league.
Kris Brown, K, Houston TexansFriday 9/3, 9:21 AM CT
The Texans have released Kris Brown, according to Fox Houston.

Our View: Brown has been the only kicker in the team's history but was beaten out this summer by Neil Rackers. It's doubtful that he's picked up by anyone this close to the season, though he'll be one of the first guys to be called should any team's kicker get hurt or struggle at the beginning of the season.
Neil Rackers, K, Houston TexansFriday 9/3, 9:19 AM CT
Neil Rackers had beaten out Kris Brown for the Texans' kicker job, according to Fox Houston.

Our View: As a result, Rackers should be one of the top kickers selected in all fantasy drafts. He's a proven veteran who will be kicking in one of the most high-powered offenses in the league.
Steve Slaton, RB, Houston TexansFriday 9/3, 8:36 AM CT
Texans coach Gary Kubiak has hinted that Steve Slaton's status for Week 1 against the Colts could be iffy due to a toe injury, according to the team's official site. "Steve is out, we're hoping he's ready to go against Indianapolis," Kubiak said.

Our View: Expect to hear more about this situation in the coming week. Regardless, Arian Foster should be in line for plenty of work against the Colts.
James Davis, RB, Cleveland BrownsFriday 9/3, 8:23 AM CT
James Davis, who gained 66 yards off 15 rushes last night, tweaked his ankle at the end of the game, according to the Canton Repository.

Our View: Luckily, the ailment does not sound very serious at all. With Montario Hardesty having missed most of training camp with a right knee injury and hurting his left knee yesterday, Davis could open the season as the Browns' No. 2 running back behind Jerome Harrison.
Montario Hardesty, RB, Cleveland BrownsFriday 9/3, 8:17 AM CT
The Cleveland Plain Dealer notes that Montario Hardesty had an arthroscopic procedure in 2006 on his left knee, the same knee that he injured last night.

Our View: His right knee's history is even worse; he suffered a torn ACL in that one in 2005, and was sidelined throughout most of the preseason due to a bone bruise in that knee. Things are not looking good for Hardesty right now, and it's looking like James Davis could be backing up Jerome Harrison for the first few weeks of the regular season.
Laurence Maroney, RB, New England PatriotsFriday 9/3, 8:11 AM CT
Laurence Maroney has apparently been dealing with an abdominal strain as well as groin and ankle injuries this summer, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: That would help explain his relative lack of usage this preseason. He did get into last night's game, rushing nine times for 32 yards, though his role heading into the season does not figure to be one that garners him any fantasy value.
