Joey Eischen no longer is a contender for the left-handed spot in the Tigers bullpen, the Detroit News reports. "He knows that," Jim Leyland said, explaining that Eischen will continue to work with pitching coach Chuck Hernandez . "That guy's got seven years in the big leagues and we wanted to be very respectful of him."

Joey Eischen signed a minor-league deal with the Tigers Thursday, according to Sports Network. Eischen held an 8.59 ERA in 22 games last year before undergoing surgery on his left rotator cuff. He is expected to be ready for spring training.
