The Mets signed Ruben Sierra to a minor-league deal on Wednesday, according to the AP. The deal includes an invitation to spring training. Sierra hit just .179 in 14 games with the Twins last season.

Ruben Sierra could sign a minor-league deal with the Mets before the end of the week, Sierra's agent told the New York Post. The 41-year-old Sierra hit only .179 with no homers in 14 games for the Twins last year.

The New York Daily News reports that Ruben Sierra is prepared to join the Mets if his ailing mother's condition improves. Released last month by the Twins, Sierra would work into shape in the minors and join the Mets in September if he looks good.
