Ron Villone, P, Washington NationalsThursday 5/7, 3:25 PM CT
Ron Villone has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse by the Nationals, according to the Associated Press. Mike Hinckley was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.

Our View: Villone will provide another left-handed arm in the Nationals' bullpen, but is not expected to hold much fantasy value. He held a poor 1.64 WHIP over 50 innings of relief in 2008.

According to MLB.com, the Nationals signed left-handed relief pitcher Ron Villone to a Minor League contract. He will report to Triple-A Syracuse.

Our View: Villone will be Triple-A Syracuse's only lefty out of the pen and was likely signed as an insurance policy should someone in the Nationals' big league bullpen fall to injury.

Ron Villone has signed a minor league deal with the Mets, according to the NY Post.

Our View: The 39-year-old reliever is not expected to make the Mets, and will be used as depth for the minors.

There is speculation that the Athletics may be interested in Ron Villone, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Villone held a poor 1.64 WHIP with St. Louis last season and would hold little fantasy value with Oakland, but the club would add the lefty reliever for bullpen depth.

The Rockies are interested in reliever Ron Villone, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The club would prefer Joe Beimel, but negotiations have not been going well. Villone favorably registered 50 strikeouts over 50 innings of relief with the Cardinals last season, but held a poor 1.64 WHIP.

The Cardinals signed Ron Villone to a minor-league deal Tuesday. The lefty posted a 4.25 ERA in 37 games last year for the Yankees. "We feel that adding Villone to the mix this spring will give us some additional options and added depth when putting together our bullpen," GM John Mozeliak said in the AP. "He's a veteran pitcher who knows how to approach the role, and we'll see what he can provide as we move through the spring."
