Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 11/4, 11:04 PM CT
Andy Pettitte allowed three earned runs on four hits over 5.2 innings in tonight's 7-3 win over Philadelphia in Game 6 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. He had five walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte did not dominate tonight, but did enough to help the Yankees claim their 27th World Series title. Their last championship came back in 2000.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 11/3, 2:45 PM CT
After a few days of speculation, Yankees manager Joe Girardi confirmed on Tuesday that Andy Pettitte will start game six of the World Series on three days of rest on Wednesday, according to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse.

Our View: He will be facing old Yankees nemesis Pedro Martinez, who will be pitching on normal rest. It should be a fun night in the Bronx.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 11/1, 1:00 AM CT
Andy Pettitte was far from perfect in game three of the World Series on Saturday night, allowing four runs in six innings (which included a run he walked in during the second inning), but still got the win as the Yanks' bats came alive in an 8-5 win in Philadelphia.

Our View: Pettitte found a way to win, and will be able to do so again on short rest in a potential game six in New York.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 10/25, 11:14 PM CT
With a 5-2 win over the Angels on Sunday, Andy Pettitte didn't just clinch a World Series berth. He also won his MLB record 16th postseason game.

Our View: For his part Pettitte went 6.1 innings and allowed just one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out six. He looked as dominant as ever pitching his fifth clincher, which was no surprise to those who followed his postseason career, and he led the Yankees to their MLB record 40th pennant.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 10/23, 6:47 PM CT
Andy Pettitte is slated to pitch in Game 6 of the ALCS against the Angels, according to the Journal News.

Our View: There is a 90 percent chance of rain for Saturday, but skipper Joe Girardi would like Pettitte to start even if the game is postponed. He wants to have ace CC Sabathia take the hill in Game 1 if the Yankees advance to the World Series against the Phillies.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 10/19, 7:49 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was solid through 6.1 innings on Monday, but it wasn't enough as the Yankees fell to the Angels in 11 innings by a score of 5-4. Pettitte allowed three runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out two in the game.

Our View: The game was tied when Pettitte left tonight, but the bullpen couldn't deliver the win. The Yanks had a chance to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series with a win, but now they will try to keep the Angels from evening the series in Game 4.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 10/11, 9:52 PM CT
Andy Pettitte took home the win on Sunday as the Yankees eliminated the Twins with a 4-1 win. The left-hander struck out seven batters in 6.1 innings of work.

Our View: Pettitte appeared intensely focused on his task as is usual this time of year. He allowed just one walk and a total of three baserunners. He will remain the Yankees third starter for the remainder of the postseason.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 10/3, 10:18 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was worked over by the Rays on Saturday in his final regular season tune up. He allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks over just 4.1 innings in the 5-3 loss.

Our View: Pettitte finishes the year at 14-8, but the aging lefty struggled down the stretch with an ERA over 5.00 in the final month of the season.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 9/27, 4:24 PM CT
Andy Pettitte held the Red Sox to just two runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings on Sunday to earn his 14th win and another division title for the Yankees.

Our View: Pettitte has been the beneficiary of a bruising offense this season, as suggested by his 14 wins and 4.11 ERA. He's 2-1 in September, but has an ERA near 5.00. Still, the wins are a nice fantasy boost.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 9/21, 11:58 PM CT
Andy Pettitte gave up three earned runs on five hits over six innings in Monday's 5-2 loss at the Angels. He had two walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte had a decent outing, but was dealt a loss due to poor run support. Pettitte has not taken a loss over his previous nine starts.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 9/18, 8:29 PM CT
Andy Pettitte completed a pen session today, and is set to test his ailing left shoulder Monday against the Angels, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Pettitte's last turn in the rotation was skipped due to a tired shoulder, and it would be 10 days between starts for him if cleared to take the mound Monday. The Yankees will proceed with caution, as Pettitte battled pain in the same shoulder over the second half of last season.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 9/15, 3:20 PM CT
Dealing with a fatigued pitching shoulder, Andy Pettitte will skip his scheduled Wednesday start, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Our View: He will next try to go on Monday against the Angels. Chad Gaudin will start in his place this week.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 9/5, 4:18 PM CT
Andy Pettitte gave up four earned runs on four hits over six innings in Saturday's 6-4 win at Toronto. He issued five walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: It was not a solid performance for Pettitte, but the Yankees provided enough offensive firepower for him to collect his 13th win of 2009. The veteran lefty earned a win in each of his last four starts.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 8/31, 8:59 PM CT
Andy Pettitte only surrendered one earned run on two hits over eight innings in Monday's 5-1 win at Baltimore. He had no walks and racked up eight strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte was in control tonight as he claimed his 12th win of 2009, and the 227th of his career. He has taken a win in each of his last three starts, and is 4-0 over six outings in August.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 8/26, 9:25 PM CT
Andy Pettitte only issued two earned runs on five hits over seven innings in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Rangers at Yankee Stadium. He had three walks and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte claimed his 11th win of 2009, and the 226th of his career. He allowed two or less earned runs in five of his last six starts, and has not taken a loss over that span.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 8/21, 10:44 PM CT
Andy Pettitte earned a win on Friday thanks to 20 runs of support, but didn't pitch well in the Yankee blowout win over Boston. He allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks over five innings.

Our View: Pettitte improved to 10-6 on the season, but the outing broke his string of four straight quality starts.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 8/15, 12:11 AM CT
Andy Pettitte only allowed two earned runs on six hits over six innings in Friday's 4-2 win at Seattle. He had one walk and racked up 10 strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte pitched well tonight, but was forced to take a no-decision rather than a win as the game was tied at 2-2 when he exited. Pettite allowed one or less earned runs in each of his previous three starts heading into tonight, and the 37-year-old vet should remain active in fantasy lineups for his next turn in the Yankees' rotation.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 8/9, 10:33 PM CT
Andy Pettitte only issued five hits over seven scoreless innings in Sunday's 5-2 win over the rival Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte pitched great tonight, but was forced to take a no-decision rather than a win as the game was tied at zero when he exited. On the positive side, the 37-year-old hurler has not taken a loss over his last three starts, and trimmed his ERA to 4.14.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 8/4, 8:51 PM CT
Andy Pettitte only issued one earned run on four hits over 6.2 innings in Tuesday's 5-3 win at Toronto. He had four walks with six strikeouts.

Our View: It was a strong outing for Pettitte, despite the four free passes. Pettitte snapped a five-game skid without earning a win, and improved his record to 9-6.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 7/30, 11:27 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was very good again on Thursday but the Yankees fell to the White Sox by a score of 3-2. Pettite went 6.1 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out eight.

Our View: Pettitte has been a strikeout machine over his last three starts, and he is starting to look like a very good fantasy option. If he is still floating around on your free agent wire, you should jump on him at this point.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 7/25, 3:49 PM CT
Andy Pettitte had the strikeout working on Saturday, but that was about all he had going for him as he and the Yankees fell to the A's 6-4. Pettitte went 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on five hits while walking one and striking out seven.

Our View: Pettitte was very good until the seventh, but it all fell apart in the six-run frame. He has been better as of late, striking out 15 in his last two starts, but he has only one loss to show for it. He needs to eliminate the big innings, and if he does he can be a solid fantasy starter.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 7/20, 9:04 PM CT
Andy Pettitte looked great against the Orioles on Monday, picking up a no decision after allowing one run off six hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings.

Our View: It was a fine outing for the veteran lefty, although, before rushing to go pick him up, remember that he had allowed six runs each of his previous two starts. He is, however, worth owning in AL-only leagues if he happens to be available.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 7/11, 7:02 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was lit up for six earned runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings in Saturday's 14-8 loss at the Angels. He had two walks and one strikeout.

Our View: Pettitte suffered his fifth loss of the season, and allowed six earned runs in each of his last two starts. Hopefully he will bounce back in his next trip to the hill.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 7/6, 3:52 PM CT
Andy Pettitte struggled with his control on Monday afternoon as the Yankees fell to the Blue Jays by a score of 7-6. Pettitte went six innings and allowed six runs on five hits while walking five and striking out three.

Our View: The Yankees outhit the Jays today, but Pettitte's inability to keep the walks to a minimum killed him in this start. Overall, he is 8-4 on the year, but the ERA isn't great at 4.53. He is still a solid fantasy option in most leagues, mainly for his ability to get you wins.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 7/1, 8:33 PM CT
Andy Pettitte only allowed two earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Mariners at Yankee Stadium. He issued one walk and fired five strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte collected his team-leading eighth win of the season, and No. 223 for his career. He has two wins over his last three starts, and the veteran lefty shall remain active in fantasy leagues.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 6/25, 10:10 PM CT
Andy Pettitte gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits over 3.2 innings in Thursday's 11-7 win at Atlanta. He issued three walks with four strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte struggled tonight, and was handed a no-decision. He was disappointing after only surrendering one run over seven innings in his last start at Florida.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 6/19, 9:47 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was in control from the hill in Friday's 5-1 win at Florida, as he only allowed one earned run on three hits over seven innings. He had no walks and racked up seven strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte claims his seventh win of the season, and bounced back well from his last outing when he gave up five earned runs in a loss against the cross-town rival Mets.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 6/13, 6:51 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was roughed up by the Mets in Saturday's 6-2 loss at Yankee Stadium, as he allowed five earned runs on 12 hits over five innings. He had one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte is struggling in June, as he is now 1-2 with a 6.19 ERA over three starts. He still nailed down six wins this season, and is worth keeping active in fantasy lineups.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 6/8, 8:48 PM CT
Andy Pettitte allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings in Monday's 5-3 win over the Rays at Yankee Stadium. He had three walks and racked up seven strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte claimed his sixth win of the season, and is 4-1 over his last six starts.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 6/3, 9:45 PM CT
Andy Pettitte took his second loss of the season as the Yankees fell 4-2 to the Rangers on Wednesday. He gave up seven hits and six walks while striking out six.

Our View: Pettitte now has now walked 11 batters in his last two starts, and it may be a sign that his back is a more serious issue than he is letting on. If the Yankees feel the same way, they could probably afford to give a stint on the DL. The team moved starter Phil Hughes to the bullpen earlier in the day.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 6/1, 6:35 PM CT
Andy Pettitte expects to make his next scheduled start Wednesday against the Rangers, according to the Associated Press. He exited his last start early with a stiff back.

Our View: He was able to throw 25 pitches during a pen session Monday. Pettitte has earned a win in three of his last four outings, and should be safe to keep active in fantasy lineups.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 5/30, 7:35 AM CT
The AP reports that Andy Pettitte left Friday night's start against the Indians with a stiff back. Pettitte threw into the six and picked up his fifth victory of the season as he gave up just one run. The pitcher says he suffered the injury in Texas and then made it worse on the wet mound from Friday night. He did add, "I'm fine."

Our View: Pettitte allowed 11 base runners in his five-plus innings of work, including five walks. It is the fourth time this season that he has walked at least four batters. We expect him to make his next start, but his value is slipping along with his command.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 5/29, 11:00 PM CT
Andy Pettitte lasted just five innings, but only allowed one run and earned the victory as the Yankees topped the Indians 3-1 on Friday.

Our View: Pettitte surrendered six hits and five walks, but managed to work out of jams on Friday. He's now 5-1 on the season, but his ERA is above 4.00 and he's not the fantasy ace he once was. Still, he's worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 5/23, 6:24 PM CT
Andy Pettitte put forth a relatively nice effort in a no-decision against Philadelphia on Saturday, giving up four runs off five hits (two home runs) and two walks while striking out five in seven innings.

Our View: It has been much of the same for Pettitte this year, who's been consistently average pitcher since 2006. He remains a borderline mixed-league pitcher who should continue to be a nice innings-eater throughout the season in AL-only formats.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 5/13, 9:34 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was impressive on Wednesday as the Yankees downed the Blue Jays 8-2. Pettitte went six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits while walking four and striking out two.

Our View: Pettite is 3-1 on the year, which is pretty impressive considering the rough start for the Yanks. Pettitte's numbers aren't overwhelming, but he is still managing to get the job done. He should be owned in AL-only leagues for sure and is a decent option in all mixed leagues.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 5/7, 9:49 PM CT
Andy Pettitte gave up nine hits, including four home runs, and five runs as the Yankees fell 8-6 on Thursday. He did not factor in the decision.

Our View: Entering the night, Pettitte had only given up one home run in 33 innings this season. The normally consistent pitcher has given up five runs in each of his last two starts - both at the new Yankee stadium.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 5/1, 10:31 PM CT
Andy Pettitte had another rough outing on Friday, allowing five runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings. He walked four and struck out two, but the Yankees' offense bailed him out with a 10-9 win.

Our View: This is Pettitte's second bad outing in a row after starting the season off very well. He isn't a young man anymore, but it's hard to believe he is wearing down already. Keep an eye on how his next few starts work out.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 4/26, 10:50 PM CT
Andy Pettitte allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and for walks over six innings on Sunday. He took the loss as the Yankees fell 4-1 to the Red Sox and were swept in the series.

Our View: Pettitte, the man with the master pick off move, allowed three stolen bases, including a straight steal of home to Jacoby Ellsbury. He has been very good this season, but Sunday's start left Pettitte owners and Yankee fans wanting.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 4/21, 9:08 PM CT
Andy Pettitte scattered nine hits over seven innings of work as the Yankees beat the A's 5-3 on Tuesday. He earned his second win of the season in the process.

Our View: Pettitte has looked sharp ever since he showed up for spring training. The veteran looks poised for a strong season and he currently holds a 2.53 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 4/20, 6:25 PM CT
Andy Pettitte's start was bumped back to Tuesday after the Yankees-Athletics game was rained out on Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Pettitte still makes for a fine play after getting off to a fine start this season and with Chien-Ming Wang's turn in the rotation expected to be skipped, Pettitte will still get two starts this week.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 4/15, 7:12 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was not quite as sharp in his second start of the season, but still had a quality outing. He allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over 7.1 innings and struck out four.

Our View: Pettitte has been solid so far this season and looks like he may be the AL's version of Jamie Moyer. Those lefties can go forever and it looks like Pettitte could be a nice last minute starter pickup.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 4/10, 6:58 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was brilliant on Friday night against the Royals, throwing seven innings of one-run ball. He allowed only three hits and a walk and struck out six en route to his first win of the season.

Our View: Pettitte picked up where he left off in spring training and dominated the Royals Friday. He was 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA in the exhibition season and appears to be delaying the aging process as he rolls into another season with the Yankees.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 4/4, 5:31 PM CT
Andy Pettitte allowed one earned run on six hits over four innings in Saturday's 10-1 win over the Cubs, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte closed out the exhibition season with a 3-0 mark and a 1.17 ERA, and the 36-year-old should have enough left in the tank for another solid campaign with the contending Yankees.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 3/30, 5:27 PM CT
Andy Pettitte struck out seven batters in 6.2 innings during Monday's 3-1 win over the Blue Jays. He allowed five hits, one run, and no walks in the outing.

Our View: The run was actually the first he's given up all spring. He has looked very sharp this spring, and should be in line for another strong season in pin stripes.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 3/15, 6:48 PM CT
Andy Pettitte remained mostly perfect this spring with three shutout innings against the Twins on Sunday. He allowed two hits and struck out one in the victory.

Our View: This was just his second outing, but Pettitte has proven efficient in 4.2 innings of work this spring. He will likely be at the back end of the Yankees' rotation this season, and he could pile up some wins if the bullpen and defense come around. He claims that his increased workout load over the offseason will prevent from suffering another second half breakdown in 2009.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 3/9, 3:22 PM CT
Andy Pettitte allowed one hit over 1.2 innings of work in Monday's 6-2 loss to the Blue Jays, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: Pettitte is 36 years old, but could have at least one more productive season left in him while working at the back of the Yankees' new and improved rotation for 2009.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 1/26, 4:48 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Andy Pettitte has signed a one-year deal with the Yankees, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. He'll be guaranteed $5.5 million, with another $6.5 million in incentives which will be based both on performance and time on New York's active roster.

Our View: Pettitte will be the Yankees' fifth starter behind CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Chien-Ming Wang, and Joba Chamberlain. As long as everyone stays healthy and Chamberlain adjusts to being in the rotation, the Yankees could have one of the best rotations in baseball in 2009.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 1/26, 1:55 PM CT
Andy Pettitte is reportedly set to re-sign with the Yankees, according to the NY Daily News. His deal is believed to be for one year, at a base salary of between $5-6MM. The contract could be worth up to $12 miilion, with performance incentives for innings-pitched and days-on-the-roster.

Our View: Pettitte will round out a dominant Yankees' rotation that includes CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Chien Ming-Wang and rising star Joba Chamberlain. We will keep you posted when the deal is made official.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 1/26, 10:17 AM CT
The Yankees' talks with Andy Pettitte have intensified and there is optimism the two sides can reach a deal, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View: Pettitte and the Yankees are working on a one-year deal, but for less guaranteed money than the $10 million they originally offered. Inking Pettitte would prevent Ben Sheets from wearing pinstripes in 2009.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 1/24, 11:48 AM CT
Pitcher Andy Pettitte and the New York Yankees are still talking about a possible contract, NorthJersey.com reports.

Our View: The team would rather re-sign the lefty than any of the other free agents still on the market, and if they can't get him, it doesn't seem like they'll go after anyone else.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 1/21, 11:25 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports that the Yankees are making an extended effort to sign left-handed starter Andy Pettitte.

Our View: Rosenthal also reports that Pettitte was not mulling over an offer from Houston, and that Astros GM Ed Wade said he had not been in contact with him.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 1/8, 6:51 PM CT
Andy Pettitte likely isn't headed back to the Astros, according to MLB.com. The report states that the Astros are working with a firm payroll number ($100 million) and aren't likely to increase that figure. "We haven't had any discussion with Andy or his representatives and we don't see a scenario where he would fit into our payroll scenario at this time," GM Ed Wade said.

Our View: If the Astros don't have the money for Ty Wigginton or Randy Wolf, it would seem a bit odd if they certainly found the millions needed to bring in Pettitte. As a result, the lefty will likely have to look for another place to call home in 2009.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 1/8, 9:03 AM CT
Ken Davidoff of Newsday states Andy Pettitte "might be softening his opposition to rejoining the Astros."

Our View: Pettitte is not pleased with the Yankees after rejecting their offer and could be an option to replace Randy Wolf in the rotation.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 1/6, 4:32 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.com reports that talks between the Yankees and free-agent pitcher Andy Pettitte have not ended, even though earlier Tuesday Pettitte turned down New York's original offer of a one-year, $10 million deal. "When there's a will, there's a way," one source told Rosenthal.

Our View: It's possible the Yankees could still reach an agreement by offering the 36-year-old left-hander an incentive-laden deal that has the potential of reaching Pettitte's asking price of $16 million for one year.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 1/6, 7:23 AM CT
Andy Pettitte has reportedly rejected the Yankees' one-year offer for $10 million, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Pettitte is yet to announce whether he plans to return to the majors in 2009.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 12/31, 11:06 AM CT
Updating a previous report, an unspecified source said the New York Yankees, who were initially thought to have feigned in their desire to retain starter Andy Pettitte, are expressing interest in re-signing the 36-year-old lefty, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: The source believes the two parties will reach a deal as early as next week. It is likely the Yankees will re-sign Pettitte for less than his $16 million asking price, simply because of the fact New York's front office is well aware of Pettitte's desire to remain in pinstripes.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 12/31, 10:35 AM CT
The New York Daily News reports that Andy Pettitte's chances of remaining a Yankee are "55-45 against," according to a source close to the team.

Our View: The odds of the Yankees re-signing Pettitte took a severe hit when the team signed free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira to eight-year, $180 million contract.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 12/28, 10:44 AM CT
Andy Pettitte is on the Rangers' radar, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Dodgers are believed to be interested as well. It is uncertain if the Rangers prefer him over Ben Sheets, or if Pettitte is on their back burner.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 12/27, 7:53 AM CT
The one-year, $10 million offer that the Yankees gave to lefty Andy Pettitte has not been shelved, though no decisions on whether or not he will be back with the team will come until after Jan. 1, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: If he suits up next year, Pettitte will still have fantasy value. It will be as a later-round selection, but the 14 wins and 158 strikeouts he put up last season are solid numbers.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 12/26, 8:53 AM CT
The New York Post reports that Andy Pettitte is unlikely to be signed by the Yankees following the team's early offseason spending. It was previously reported that the Yankees had a standing offer for $10 million over ten years.

Our View: Pettitte tossed 204 innings last season, going 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA. He will be sought after, but it seems unlikely he will get the deal he is looking for.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 12/24, 9:31 AM CT
The Yankees may move on from Andy Pettitte, according to the Lower Hudson Journal.

Our View: Pettitte has been looking for something closer to the $16 million he made in 2008, but has only received a $10 million offer from the Yankees so far. Houston may also not be an option at this point since the Astros would like to shed payroll, not add it.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 12/20, 10:04 AM CT
Andy Pettitte is expected to remain with the Yankees, according to MLB.com. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports recently stated that that it was "virtually inevitable" that the Yankees and Pettitte would eventually come to a one-year agreement.

Our View: The Yankees have offered Pettitte a one-year, $10 million contract, which is a significant decrease in salary from the $16 million he made last season. His reps have advised Pettitte to decline a significant pay cut so far. But no other MLB club is aggressively pursuing Pettitte and it is known he would likely to remain in pinstripes, namely to pitch in the new Yankee Stadium.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 12/18, 7:28 PM CT
Andy Pettitte continues to sit on the Yankees one year contract offer for $10 million, according to MLB.com. "Andy's a free agent, and the one thing I've been consistent in saying is that we'd like to have Andy back," GM Brian Cashman said. "I know he'd like to come back. That's set up for maybe a positive end result. It doesn't guarantee it."

Our View: With the Yankees still being mentioned in pursuit of arms like Derek Lowe, Pettitte had better accept the offer before it is revoked. At this point, we really don't have any understanding of what is going on in Pettitte's head, but we still expect him to return to the Bronx.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 12/15, 1:20 PM CT
Andy Pettitte's reps are claiming that he was offered a three-year deal worth $36 million from an undisclosed club, according to Sports Illustrated.

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 12/12, 7:37 AM CT
Yankees' GM Brian Cashman made Andy Pettitte an offer of one-year at $10 million, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: That figure is $6 million below his asking price, and is a take-it-or-leave-it offer. The source suggests the Yankees would like to keep him in the rotation for one year rather than sign Derek Lowe or Ben Sheets for multiple years. But if Pettitte turns down the deal, the Yankees would likely target Sheets next.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 12/11, 3:07 PM CT
Yankees' GM Brian Cashman will reportedly visit Andy Pettitte after leaving the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas, according to the NY Post.

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 12/4, 9:37 AM CT
The Dodgers are gathering information on free agent lefty Andy Pettitte, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View: Pettitte would be reunited with skipper Joe Torre if he inked with the Dodgers. Pettitte would be a strong addition to the NL West champs' rotation, and would help ease the potential loss of Derek Lowe.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 12/3, 1:27 PM CT
The St. Louis Cardinals may be interested in free agent starter Andy Pettitte, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Pettitte will likely have a number of suitors, and the Yankees have reportedly offered him a contract below what he made last year that was turned down.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 12/1, 10:43 AM CT
Andy Pettitte reportedly turned down a contract offer below $16 million (his 2008 salary) by the Yankees a few weeks ago, according to the NY Post.

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 11/26, 12:55 PM CT
There are rumors that Andy Pettitte is talking to former skipper Joe Torre regarding joining the Dodgers, but Ken Davidoff of Newsday states a Dodgers' official said it was unlikely that the club would acquire Pettitte.

Andy Pettitte's agent does not want him to settle for a pay cut to remain with the Yankees, according to the NY Post. He made $16 million in 2008.

Our View: Pettitte's value to the Yankees will decrease a bit if they land prized free agent hurlers CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 11/9, 4:56 PM CT
Andy Pettitte has officially filed for free agency and the Yankees now have until Thursday to negotiate with the left-hander before he can talk dollars with other teams, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Despite saying he would like to pitch for the Yankees in 2009, the Yankees have yet to offer the 215 game winner a contract. We still expect something to get done as the Yankees clearly need depth in their starting rotation, something that Pettitte can still provide.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 11/5, 9:42 AM CT

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 10/17, 10:33 AM CT
The New York Post reports that Andy Pettitte may be seeking a two-year deal this offseason. The Yankees would rather just sign him for one more season.

Our View: Pettitte, who made $16 million this past season when he was 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA, was swayed to put off retirement after talking it over with his wife and sons, who are at the age where they enjoy hanging around the Yankees and their big league father. Ideally, the Yankees want Pettitte back as a fourth or fifth starter for a lot less money.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 10/15, 11:08 PM CT
Andy Pettitte will pitch in 2009, according to a report on ESPN by Buster Olney.

Our View: The report states that Pettitte intends to pitch for the Yankees next season after an average effort of 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA. He wasn't great, but given the Yankees lack of depth in the rotation they almost certainly must have him back in the fold to have any hope of reaching the playoffs next season.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 9/27, 8:04 AM CT
The MRI on Andy Pettitte's shoulder showed an inflamed rotator cuff and it should heal with rest according to Newsday.

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 9/24, 5:30 PM CT
Newsday reports that Andy Pettitte has been scratched from his scheduled start this Saturday. Pettitte's left shoulder has been "barking" for some time, and since they are out of it, he will be shut down. He had an MRI done at the start of the last homestand and nothing was found to be structurally wrong. In other words, rest should cure it.

Our View: Pettitte has been pretty terrible since the All-Star break. He is 4-7 with a 5.35 ERA in 13 starts since then. At least he knows he's been off. "I just look at the big thing was me personally. I just think I pitched terrible," said Pettitte. Odds are he still returns to the Yankees rotation in 2009.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 9/21, 11:13 PM CT

Andy Pettitte endured a career high fifth straight loss after giving up four runs in six innings versus the White Sox on Tuesday.

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 9/16, 1:28 PM CT
Andy Pettitte underwent an MRI, but it showed no damage to his shoulder, and he will continue to start the remainder of the season, according to the New York Post.

Our View: There is something wrong with Pettitte's shoulder, however, as he admitted it will take a full offseason in order for it to be 100 percent. He has been horrendous recently, losing his last four games and carrying an ERA over 7.00 in that time.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 9/12, 7:47 PM CT

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 9/10, 6:08 PM CT
Andy Pettitte lost for the sixth time in nine starts on Wednesday as he allowed four runs and nine hits in just 4.2 innings against the Angels.

Our View: On July 27th Pettitte was 12-7 with a 3.76 ERA, and now he is 13-13 with a 4.52 mark. Not much is going right with the Yankees, and Pettitte's struggles simply highlight that fact. Andy has never finished a season with a sub .500 record.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 9/9, 3:21 PM CT
Andy Pettitte commented that his banged-up body isn't bad enough for him to retire after this season, according to the NY Post. He said, "I don't feel quite as good coming down the stretch this year as I did last year. I feel banged up."

Our View: Pettitte can still get the job done as he holds a 4.49 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 30 starts in 2008.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 8/31, 3:01 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was hit hard by the Blue Jays, and he suffered his 11th loss of the year by allowing 10 hits and six runs over 6.1 innings.

Our View: This is the second consecutive game that Pettitte has allowed six earned runs, which should be concerning to fantasy owners. He also struck out just 26 batters in August, his lowest total since April.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 8/20, 9:31 PM CT
The Yankees took the Blue Jays to the woodshed this evening, laying down the 5-1 win on the arm of LHP Andy Pettitte. Pettitte pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 8/20, 11:20 AM CT
Andy Pettitte would not like to work with catcher Ivan Rodriguez again this season, according to the Journal News.

Our View: The trade from the Tigers is not working out well, as Rodriguez is only 8-for-35 (.229) since joining the Yankees, and Pettitte is questioning his pitch-calling.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesFriday 8/8, 11:17 AM CT
Andy Pettitte will make his next scheduled start despite numerous reports that the 36-year-old veteran is dealing with a tired arm, according to the AP. He is slated to start Sunday against the Angels. Pettitte said, "No one has ever discussed missing a start with me. I am pitching. I have not discussed missing a start with anybody."

Our View: It is favorable news that he isn't expected to miss a start, but he has struggled in each of his last two outings, and is a risky fantasy starter against the strong Angels' lineup.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 7/31, 9:31 PM CT
Andy Pettitte was rocked by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The lefty threw 5.1 innings, allowing nine earned runs on 11 hits. He also walked three and gave up two home runs.

Andy Pettitte wasn't terrible, but he still got the loss in today's game against Toronto. He threw six innings, and though he struck out six batters, he gave up four runs and eight hits.

Our View: Pettitte's ERA is now above 4.00 again after getting under that mark in his last start. He is still a quality option to pitch for your fantasy team and will provide wins and a decent WHIP because of his excellent control.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesTuesday 7/8, 9:23 PM CT
Andy Pettitte rebounded from a rough start against Boston by shutting out the Rays over eight innings of work on Tuesday. He allowed just four hits and no walks while striking out five.

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 7/3, 11:00 PM CT

Pettitte lost to the Mets earlier in the year and is 7-4 lifetime against them with a 3.48 ERA. Santana lost his second straight start and third consecutive decision on Monday against Seattle, as he allowed five runs (one earned) and seven hits in seven innings. Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesThursday 6/12, 11:42 PM CT
Andy Pettitte held the Athletics to just one run over eight innings on Thursday night as he won his sixth game of the season. Pettitte found success by limiting his walks allowing only one on the night along with permitting just five hits.

Our View: After being a punching bag in his last two outings (14 ER in 13.2 IP), Pettitte looked liked the pitcher who owns 207 career victories tonight. No longer the pitcher he once was, Pettitte still keeps the Yankees in it most nights which meaning he still has a chance to put up a solid win total the rest of the way.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesWednesday 6/11, 8:54 PM CT

Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSaturday 6/7, 4:22 PM CT

Our View: Very few pitchers give up 10 runs and record a no-decision as Pettitte did today. Pettitte has now allowed 20 hits and 15 runs over his last two outings which might signify that his oft injured elbow is once again acting up on him.

Andy Pettitte, who's owned the Rays and was 8-1 at Tropicana Field before giving up five runs and eight hits in four innings on Monday night, suffered his fourth loss of the season.

Our View: Pettitte was an impressive 14-3 lifetime against Tampa Bay coming into the game, however these aren't the Rays your father watched. The Rays have now won two of three matchups against Pettitte this season.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesSunday 5/11, 4:41 PM CT

Yankees' starter Andy Pettitte is scheduled to pitch on Monday at Tampa Bay. Nate Robertson of the Tigers, has not been announced as Detroit's pitcher for Tuesday's contest at Kansas City.

The Yankees have reshuffled their pitching rotation to accommodate Pettitte, who has been pushed back to the third or fourth game of the season because of back spasms. Pettitte has been on the shelf since last week, when he experienced tightness in his lower back while driving home from Legends Field. He threw 47 balls on flat ground on Monday and was scheduled to undergo treatment on Tuesday before throwing a side session on Wednesday. Pettitte stated, "I just want to be healthy now. Did I want to pitch game two? Of course I did. That's where they lined me up to pitch. The important thing for me right now is that I want to be healthy. If I miss a start, it's not the end of the world. I'm encouraged right now that they're not talking about skipping a turn. It's progressing, and I feel like I will start in that first series." He remains a risky fantasy prospect heading into opening day.
Andy Pettitte, P, New York YankeesMonday 3/24, 6:04 PM CT
Andy Pettitte played catch on Monday, but his sore back still hasn't progressed to the point where he feels comfortable in taking the mound, this according to MLB.com. "I just can't get on the mound until I don't feel anything when I get over my front side," Pettitte said. "We'll start with playing catch and see how I feel." At this point it seems like a stretch to think that Pettitte will be able to make his first start of the season, but no one seems too nervous about his ability to pitch early in April since they just think that he is dealing with a muscle strain.

The 35-year-old felt tightness while driving home from Legends Field on Thursday and received treatment for about five hours on Friday.
