Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 8/15, 2:55 PM CT
Steve Pearce went 2-for-4 with a steal on Saturday, but it wasn't nearly enough, as the Pirates lost 3-1 in Chicago.

Our View: Pearce's two hits raised his average from .217 to .233. He's worth monitoring in NL-only formats.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 8/9, 3:38 PM CT
Steve Pearce homered and drove in two runs on Sunday, but couldn't prevent Pittsburgh from getting swept, as the Bucs lost 7-3 to the Cardinals at home.

Our View: Pearce is batting just .230 with two runs in 25 games this season, and is not a good option in NL-only formats.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 7/23, 5:48 PM CT
As expected, Steve Pearce has been recalled by the Pirates from the minors, according to TSN.

Our View: He was recalled by Pittsburgh to provide depth at first base after dealing Adam LaRoche to Boston. Pearce was batting .286 with 13 homers in Triple-A, and is worth adding in NL-only leagues.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 7/22, 11:17 PM CT
The Pirates are planning on recalling Steve Pearce on Thursday, and playing him regularly at first base in wake of the Adam LaRoche trade, according to ESPN.

Our View: Pearce is just 1-for-12 in the major leagues this season, though he is a career .254 hitter in 189 at-bats.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 7/8, 4:40 PM CT
Steve Pearce has been demoted to Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Dejan Kovacevic.

Our View: Pearce had just one hit in 11 at-bats since being called up in June. He is not fantasy relevant in any format at this point.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesSunday 6/21, 9:03 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that rookie call-up Steve Pearce started Saturday's game on the bench and will likely see most of his time there in the near future.

Our View: Manager John Russell indicated that it would be tough to find starts for Pearce, who was brought up to give the team some power from the right side. He is an intriguing fantasy talent, but won't be worth a lick until the Buccos can find a way to get his bat in the lineup.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 6/20, 9:38 AM CT
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates will recall first base/outfield prospect Steve Pearce from Triple-A for Sunday's game.

Our View: Pearce had 11 home runs and 42 RBI for Triple-A Indianapolis and will look to make an impact right away on a young, struggling Pirates team. Craig Monroe was DFAed to make room for him and Pearce could have some value in NL-only leagues if he gets consistent at-bats.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 6/9, 11:35 PM CT
Steve Pearce went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers for Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Our View: Pearce failed to make the Pirates out of spring training, and he has been a mild disappointment for Indy hitting just .275-8-36.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 3/28, 1:45 PM CT
Steve Pearce was sent down by Pittsburgh to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Pearce, who can play both right field and first base, lost out to Nyjer Morgan in the outfield, while Adam LaRoche is entrenched at first. Still, he should see time up with Pittsburgh at some point this season if either LaRoche of any of the Pirates' outfielders get hurt, though he's not worth owning until then.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 3/12, 8:22 AM CT
Steve Pearce returned to the diamond Wednesday after missing a week with a strained left calf, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Pearce returns in enough time to push Nyjer Morgan for a starting spot in the outfield. He has some power, and could be worth a look for deeper NL-only leagues.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 1/10, 11:45 AM CT
The Rocco Baldelli signing in Boston means that Steve Pearce is more likely to earn a spot with the Pirates next spring, rather than be sent back to Triple-A. "Steve Pearce is a viable option, and he has been from day one," general manager Neal Huntington tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We like Steve and feel like he can be a good big leaguer, but there's still some development left despite his age. We didn't want to have him sitting on the bench if we could find a legitimate option to do that at the major league level. It's possible Pearce could be that legitimate option."

Our View: Nate McLouth and Brandon Moss are set, and Nyjer Morgan is currently the favorite for a starting job. However, since all three of those outfielders swing from the left side, Pearce may be needed to provide a right-handed complement, and he may even challenge Morgan for a starting spot. Of course, the Bucs still have time to sign someone like Emil Brown.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 1/8, 7:41 AM CT
The Pirates appear to be starting three left-handed outfielders for 2009 with Nyjer Morgan, Nate McLouth and Brandon Moss, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: If they don't acquire a righty through a trade or free agency, they could give Steve Pearce a shot, who also has solid power potential which the club wants. Pearce could also work at first base.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 11/1, 3:51 PM CT
Pittsburgh prospect Steve Pearce is hitting 1-for-29 in the MPL this fall.

Our View: Pearce hit .248 in 109 at-bats for Pittsburgh in September, but that's looking more like a mirage now.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 9/24, 7:59 AM CT
Steve Pearce is expected to get most of the starts in right field with Brandon Moss (knee) out of action, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: This is good for Pearce, but he does not merit fantasy consideration with a mere .239 average (two homers) over 88 at-bats.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 9/9, 10:59 PM CT
The Pirates finally hit a home run and it only took 43 innings. And who hit it may surprise you, it was outfielder Steve Pearce. It was Pearce's first career home run.

Our View: Pearce has no fantasy value for any league.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 8/22, 3:29 PM CT
Steve Pearce has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Doug Mientkiewicz has been activated from the bereavement list as the corresponding move.

Our View: Pearce failed to impress the Pirates (or the fantasy community) during his stint with the team, as he only hit .224 over 58 at-bats (no homers), with 14 strikeouts.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesFriday 8/8, 11:02 PM CT
Steve Pearce had two hits on Friday night including the game winning double in the 12th inning for the Pirates.

Our View: Pierce is only hitting .212 in 33 AB this season, and he has failed to go deep in 101 career AB with only nine RBI. The team has high hopes for this young stud, but he is clearly not yet a finished product.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesSaturday 7/26, 3:56 PM CT
The Pirates have recalled outfielder Steve Pearce , filling the spot in the roster vacated by the trade of Xavier Nady to the Yankees, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Pearce will try to help fill the void left by Nady in right field. The 25-year-old spent a week with the Pirates in July going 1-for-3 as a pinch hitter while playing two innings in right field.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesTuesday 7/8, 8:07 AM CT
Outfielder Steve Pearce has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He was sent down to make room for Ian Snell, who returned from the DL to start tonight.

Our View: Pearce held no fantasy value, as he went 1-for-3 over a brief stint with the team.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesWednesday 7/2, 6:20 PM CT
Outfielder Steve Pearce has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the AP. He will cover the roster spot for closer Matt Capps, who landed on the 15-day DL.

Our View: The Pirates have a deep and solid outfield, and Pearce won't see much action during his stint with the club, and does not merit fantasy consideration.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesThursday 4/17, 11:51 PM CT
Steven Pearce hit his first two home runs of the season and added five RBI for Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Our View: Pearce has gotten off to a slow start, which could be related to learning a new position moving from first base to the outfield. Pearce should have made a good enough impression last season to be able to earn some playing time in the majors later this year if and when the Pirates fall out of contention.
Steve Pearce, 1B, Pittsburgh PiratesMonday 3/10, 4:27 PM CT
Steven Pearce will attempt to pick up the position of OF as the team tries to find a way to get his big bat in the lineup, this according to the AP. With Adam LaRoche entrenched at 1B, Pearce will move to the OF full-time. Pearce hit 31 HR with 113 RBI last season, so the bat is certainly legit, and with the Pirates possibly looking to trade either Xavier Nady or Jason Bay during the season, Pearce could be a full-time player by the end of the season in Pittsburgh.
