Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 1/4, 8:19 PM CT
Shelley Duncan has signed a minor league deal with the Indians, according to the Journal News.

Our View: Duncan is coming off a good year in Triple-A, but was outrighted by the Yankees in November. There is belief the 30-year-old could compete for playing time in left field with Cleveland in the upcoming season.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 11/21, 7:57 AM CT
The Yankees have outrighted first baseman Shelley Duncan from Triple-A.

Our View: Duncan has been outrighted twice by the Yankees now and will become a free agent. He has shown that he has plenty of pop in his bat, so expect some teams to show legitimate interest (dad, Dave, is in St. Louis), but he has struggled with consistency in his career. Wherever he winds up, he likely won't have any fantasy value.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 9/18, 1:03 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Shelley Duncan is appealing his three-game suspension that was handed down by the league. No date has been set for the appeal at this time.

Our View: The way these appeals work, Duncan will likely be able to play for most, if not all, of the rest of the season. There hasn't been a date set for the appeal, and these things can take weeks before they are resolved.

Shelley Duncan is serving as the Yankees' DH for their Saturday afternoon game against the Orioles. Duncan hit 30 homers and drove in 99 runs in Triple-A this season.

Our View: Duncan was one of the better hitters in the minors this season, and he provides the Yanks with yet another power threat in their already loaded lineup. He has the ability to make a fantasy impact, but it is unclear if the Yanks will play him enough to warrant a fantasy pickup.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansMonday 9/7, 10:38 AM CT
According to the Twitter page of Yankees' beat writer Tyler Kepner, Shelley Duncan is on his way to New York. Duncan hit 30 homers and drove in 99 runs in Triple-A this season.

Our View: Duncan just demolished Triple-A pitching this season, and it looks like that Yanks have decided to callhim up again. He should be able to provide a power bat off the bench for the Yanks, but he won't be taking a job from anyone.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 8/1, 3:32 PM CT
The Yankees have optioned Shelley Duncan back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in order to clear room for Jerry Hairston, Jr., the AP reports.

Our View: Duncan leads the International League in homers (25) and RBI (75), and he can now get back to padding his minor league resume.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 7/31, 1:34 PM CT
A day after going deep twice, the Yankees have called up 1B/OF Shelley Duncan from Triple-A. Chien-Ming Wang was transferred to the 60-day DL in a corresponding move.

Our View: Duncan currently carries a .911 OPS through 90 games at Triple-A and he will likely serve as a right-handed pinch hitter and occasional DH for the Yankees. He doesn't figure to have much fantasy value unless some players ahead of him on the depth chart land on the DL. He has 25 home runs and 75 RBI on the season.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 5/30, 10:59 PM CT
Shelley Duncan hit two more home runs for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, giving him 18 for the season.

Our View: Not that the Yankees need offense, but Duncan could contribute off the bench at some point this season. He is now hitting .304-18-47.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansThursday 4/30, 10:07 PM CT
Shelley Duncan hit a pair of home runs for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, giving him nine for the season.

Our View: Duncan is having a nice rebound in the early going, but the Yankees' roster is not easy to crack at first base or the outfield. AL-only owners still may want to follow his progress.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 3/29, 11:38 AM CT
Shelley Duncan has been reassigned to minor league camp by the Yankees, according to the New York Daily News. The club also reassigned pitcher David Robertson, outfielders Todd Linden, John Rodriguez, infielders Doug Bernier, Justin Leone, and catchers P.J. Pilittere and Chris Stewart.

Our View: None of the listed players were expected to push for a roster spot for opening day.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 1/14, 4:24 PM CT
Shelley Duncan will be a non-roster invitee to the Yankees spring training, according to LoHud.com. He had previously been designated for assignment by the team in order to open up a roster spot for Mark Teixeira. No team claimed him while on waivers.

Our View: Duncan managed just 57 at-bats last season with the parent club. He will likely spend the majority of 2009 in Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. He could join the 40-man roster following an injury.

MLB.com reports that the Yankees have designated first baseman Shelley Duncan for assignment to make room for the organization's new $180 million man, Mark Teixeira.

Our View: Duncan will likely spend a majority of 2009 in AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre, where he batted .239 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs in 58 games last season after being sent down in June.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansThursday 7/3, 10:51 AM CT
Shelley Duncan separated his shoulder on Wednesday, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: GM Brian Cashman says he has not ruled out the possibility that the injury could end Duncan's season.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 6/13, 8:15 PM CT
The Yankees team website reports that with the team heading out for 16 consecutive games against the National League, they have optioned Shelley Duncan to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Infielder Alberto Gonzalez was promoted to fill out the 25-man roster.

Our View: Duncan had not played in the past seven games, and his last start came on May 30 at Minnesota. The team wants Duncan playing everyday, something he can't receive with the big club.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 5/24, 2:22 PM CT
Shelley Duncan has settled in nicely as a spare part on the Yankees roster, according to MLB.com. "That can be hard on anyone, not getting regular playing time or getting the at-bats you need," Duncan said. "But as soon as you get that feeling, that comfort feeling, it's nice to lock it into your brain and just ride it out."

Our View: Duncan continues to see work when the Yanks face a lefty, he owns a .281 batting average against them, allowing the team to rest either Bobby Abreu, Johnny Damon or Jason Giambi.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 5/2, 4:39 PM CT
Shelley Duncan is batting fourth and starting at first base tonight when the Yankees host Seattle and starter Erik Bedard in the first of a three-game set.

Our View: Duncan hit cleanup on Thursday night when the Tigers sent Nate Robertson to the mound. Currently Yanks skipper Joe Girardi is hogtied when trying to sport a lineup to throw at opposing left-handers.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 5/2, 1:09 PM CT
How have injuries affected the Yankees in the last couple of weeks? Shelley Duncan was the cleanup hitter on Thursday night. With Alex Rodriguez sidelined for at least two weeks with a Grade 2 strain of his right quadriceps, Duncan assumed duties batting fourth in the Yankees' lineup.

Our View: This could be the case again tonight as Seattle will hand the ball to Erik Bedard for the first tilt of the three-game series. Skipper Joe Girardi has tried to be creative with his club as his lineup has struggled against left-handers.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansThursday 5/1, 7:39 PM CT
With Alex Rodriguez on the DL, manager Joe Girardi wants to break up all the left-handed bats in the middle of the lineup so Shelley Duncan will bat cleanup, according to MLB.com. "Shelley has hit left-handers in his career pretty well and Shelley played pretty well down at Triple-A. We're just trying to break it up so it's not so easy for them to bring in their lefties," Girardi said.

Our View: At Triple-A Scranton Duncan hit .309 with six home runs, so he has been swinging a solid bat. We still can't think that this arrangement will pick up any traction though, so don't go scrambling to add Shelley based on this news.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSunday 4/27, 3:34 PM CT
The Yankees were hoping young minor-league promoted Shelley Duncan could cure the team's woes at first base, but thus far it appears to be an experiment failed. Duncan went 0-for-4 today with two strike outs and three runners left on base in a tight 1-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians.

Our View: Duncan is not hitting .091, converting just one hit in 15 at-bats.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 4/26, 2:19 PM CT
Shelley Duncan is starting in right field against the Indians today, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The team is facing lefty Jeremy Sowers. Duncan has been called up from Triple-A Scranton.

Our View: Duncan had a strong spring training, but won't get enough at-bats to make an impact as a fantasy performer this season. He will likely only hold value when the Yankess face lefties.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansFriday 4/25, 12:36 AM CT
Shelley Duncan hit his sixth home run of the season for Triple-A Scranton Wilkes/Barre on Thursday.

Our View: He is hitting .309-6-17 in only 55 at-bats. He is certainly doing his best to earn his way back to the Bronx.

Shelley Duncan continued his impressive start with the Yankees as he hit a solo HR to up his spring numbers to .636 with two HR and nine RBI in four games. “Very impressive,” manager Joe Girardi said to the AP. “He’s done everything a man could do. He’s a ball of energy.” Duncan has started off like a house on fire, but it remains to be seen how much playing time he will be able to pick up given that he is battling Jason Giambi, Wilson Betemit and Morgan Ensberg for AB.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 3/1, 7:53 PM CT
Shelley Duncan recorded five RBIs on Saturday afternoon with a three-run homer and a two-run double. The 28-year-old Duncan made a dramatic impact last year with seven homers and 17 RBIs, but earned some brownie points today in what figures to be a competitive battle for starter status at first base. Duncan is battling Jason Giambi, Morgan Ensberg and Wilson Betemit for playing time.
Shelley Duncan, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 2/13, 11:47 PM CT
Shelley Duncan, who had blood clots in his arm last November, is fully healthy and ready to resume his major league career, according to MLB.com. Duncan certainly won't be handed any playing time with Jason Giambi, Wilson Betemit and the newly acquired Morgan Ensberg on hand, but he will have a chance to make the team in spring training nonetheless.

GM Brian Cashman acknowledged Duncan was no longer in the hospital but wouldn't shed any additional light on the reason he was hospitalized, the severity of the problem or the long-range diagnosis.

Shelley Duncan is considered day-to-day with a bone bruise of the left pelvis, and a small inguinal hernia, according to Newsday. "I guess that was the best news we could possibly get on him," manager Joe Torre said. It's uncertain when Duncan will be ready to return to the lineup.

The Yankees purchased Shelley Duncan's contract from Triple-A on Friday, according to the AP. Duncan, the brother of Cardinals outfielder Chris Duncan, hit .295 with 25 homers and 79 RBI prior to the promotion. He got the start at DH for the Yanks on Friday night, and he could also see time at first base and in the outfield. It should be noted, though, that Duncan is already 27 years old, so despite his impressive numbers at Triple-A, he can't be considered much of a prospect.
