Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 8/20, 9:07 AM CT
According to the Kansas City Star, the Royals have released infielder Travis Metcalf.

Our View: Metcalf, who was claimed after being DFAed by the Rangers, hit just .219 with nine homers and 47 RBI for Triple-A Omaha. Don't be surprised if another team takes a crack at him.

Travis Metcalf has been claimed by the Royals after being designated for assignment by the Rangers last Sunday, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: Metcalf has some pop in his bat, but the Royals do not have room for him at either corner infield spot, and his fantasy value will be limited.

Travis Metcalf has been designated for assignment by the Rangers, according to MLBblogs.com. The club has 10 days to release, trade or place him on outright waivers.

Our View: Metcalf has some pop in his bat, but he only hit .232 over 56 at-bats in 2008. The team designated him to make room on the 40-man roster.
Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 9/15, 10:55 PM CT
Travis Metcalf hit his fifth home run on the year Monday night in the Rangers, 11-8 win.

Our View: Metcalf has five home runs in only 45 at-bats but he has no fantasy value.

Travis Metcalf was sent to the Rangers minor league affiliate in Oklahoma in order to make room on the roster for Hank Blalock, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: Metcalf showed good power, with four home runs in 42 at-bats, but he walked just once and struck out ten times, so his plate discipline clearly needs work before he'll be able to contribute to fantasy squads.

The Rangers posted nine runs on the Tigers this evening, taking the 9-1 win in impressive fashion thanks to strong contributions from third baseman Travis Metcalf, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, his third and fourth of the season, to total three RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Metcalf may be starting to find his groove, touting three homers over his last three games. He's still struggling to put the ball in play with regularity, but the power in his game is obvious.
Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 8/1, 5:17 PM CT
Travis Metcalf has been recalled and will likely play against left-handed pitching, according to the Dallas News.

Our View: Metcalf won't replace Ramon Vazquez, but he could find enough at-bats in order to produce some in deep AL-only leagues.
Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/4, 5:20 PM CT
The Rangers optioned reliever Travis Metcalf to Triple-A Oklahoma on Wednesday, this according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: Kameron Loe and Elizardo Ramirez were promoted from the Oklahoma City RedHawks today to assist a tired Rangers bullpen.
Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 6/1, 12:24 PM CT
Travis Metcalf will start at third base against the A's on Sunday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram notes.

Our View: Ramon Vazquez has been holding down the hot corner, but the Rangers can't count on him to continue hitting .330 (or even above .300). Metcalf could step into a chunk of playing time if he can stay healthy and hit well.
Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 5/29, 4:54 PM CT
Travis Metcalf has been recalled to join the Rangers while the team has demoted German Duran, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Metcalf has only one AB this season with the Rangers, but he hit .255 with five home runs last season for the Rangers. He figures to fill a reserve role behind Ramon Vazquez at third base now that the decision has been made to shift Hank Blalock to first base.
Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 5/28, 7:01 PM CT
Travis Metcalf is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma before Friday's game, according to MLB.com. He started the season on the disabled list because of hamstring surgery and is hitting .238 with no home runs and eight RBI in 11 games at Oklahoma.

Our View: Metcalf should be worth an AL-only roster spot, as he's likely to get plenty of time at third base when Ramon Vazquez inevitably comes down to earth.

Travis Metcalf, who underwent surgery to remove a torn hamstring tendon, could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment in another week, according to the Dallas Morning News. He looked good at times in limited action in 2007, but holds no fantasy value for the time being.
Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 3/11, 11:45 AM CT
Travis Metcalf is expected to have surgery, according to the Dallas News. The needed procedure will cut out part of his left hamstring tendon. He tore part of the tendon while running the bases during game action on Friday . Metcalf stated that the procedure takes about 15 minutes and he will probably be out six to eight weeks. He will need at least three weeks of rehab before he can get back into playing shape.

Travis Metcalf, 3B, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 8/23, 4:53 AM CT
Travis Metcalf was recalled by the Rangers Wednesday and had eight RBI in their doubleheader sweep at Baltimore. Half of that production came on a grand slam in the first game, one highlight of many for the Rangers as they scored a historic 30-3 victory.

Travis Metcalf wasn't originally scheduled to play Wednesday, but Ron Washington kept him in the lineup after the rookie had four hits Tuesday. Metcalf repaid the move by rapping out two more hits Wednesday, giving him nine hits in his last 15 at-bats. Five of those nine hits have been doubles.

Travis Metcalf has been recalled again and Ron Washington says he'll be the team's everyday third baseman starting Sunday, according to the Rangers official site. We'll believe this fully when we see it, as Washington has flip-flopped on lineup declarations a few times this season. Metcalf was promised plenty of playing time when the Rangers recalled him last month, and he wound up spending all of three days with the club.
