Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 3/14, 8:54 AM CT
Seemingly the odd man out of Tampa Bay's rotation, Andy Sonnanstine could be dealt this season, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: He is currently competing with Wade Davis for the team's fifth spot in the rotation. If he is dealt, do not expect it to be for a while, since the Rays likely know you can never have too much pitching.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 3/11, 3:41 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed just one hit in four scoreless innings of action against the Blue Jays on Thursday. He struck out three and walked one.

Our View: The outing lowered his spring ERA to 3.60. Until he proves otherwise in the regular season, Sonnanstine should only be considered in AL-only leagues.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 9/16, 10:38 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine only allowed two runs (one earned) on three RBI over 5.2 innings in Wednesday's 4-2 loss at Baltimore. He had two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Sonnanstine pitched well, but was handed a no-decision due to poor run support. He carries an 8.10 ERA over 13.1 innings (three starts) this month.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 9/8, 5:48 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine has been yanked from the Rays' rotation, and will now serve in a bullpen role, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: Sonnanstine holds a poor 7.23 ERA, and the Rays decided to demote him after being lit up for eight earned runs over 2.2 innings in his last start against New York.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysMonday 9/7, 9:50 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine was hammered for eight earned runs on six hits over a mere 2.2 innings in Monday's 11-1 loss at New York in the nightcap of their doubleheader. He had three walks with one strikeout.

Our View: Sonnanstine falls to 6-9 with a 7.23 ERA following his nightmarish outing. He held a 5.01 ERA over five starts last month, and continues to struggle in September.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 9/2, 2:45 PM CT
With Wade Davis slated to be called up, it appears that Andy Sonnanstine has been bumped out of rotation spot again.

Our View: Sonny was knocked around by the Red Sox Tuesday and has been terrible all year. With Jeremy Hellickson also nearing a promotion, there's a chance Sonnanstine has officially run out of opportunities in the Rays' rotation.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 9/1, 11:11 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits over four innings in Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Red Sox at Tropicana Field. He issued four walks with two strikeouts, and allowed two homers.

Our View: Sonnanstine held a 6.61 ERA and 1.53 WHIP prior to getting sent down to the minors, and continued to struggle in his return tonight. His fantasy outlook for the rest of the season does not look good as of now.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 9/1, 9:07 AM CT
The Tampa bay Rays recalled four players from the minor leagues on Tuesday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Andy Sonnanstine, Shawn Riggans, Fernando Perez, and Jeff Bennett are all expected to join the team Tuesday for their series against the Red Sox.

Our View: Sonnanstine will start tonight against the Sox, and he may be worth keeping an eye on for the rest of the season. Riggans has four at-bats with the team this season, and his one hit was a solo homer. Perez has been injured most of the year, but he should be a speed threat off the bench for the team and he also figures to see some limited time in the starting lineup. Bennett is 2-4 with a 3.76 ERA with the team this season.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 8/29, 7:48 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine will be recalled from the minor leagues and take the recently traded Scott Kazmir's turn in the rotation on Tuesday night, according to the St. Petersburg Times' Marc Topkin.

Our View: Sonnantsine did not fare well in 15 major league starts earlier this season, limping to a 6-7 record and 6.61 ERA.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 7/11, 3:51 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine has been placed on the minor league disabled list with mono, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View: At first glance, this seems to explain Sonnanstine's struggles in the majors this season, but he had pitched well in two starts for Triple-A Durham since getting demoted. Either way, this can't help his chances of getting called back up this season. He is not an option in any format.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 6/27, 1:08 AM CT
Andy Sonnanstine has been optioned to Triple-A Durham by the Rays, according to the Associated Press. Scott Kazmir was activated from the DL as the adjoining move.

Our View: Sonnanstine nailed down five wins over his last eight starts, and it is disappointing for fantasy owners that the Rays chose to demote him. He should be back at some point this season, and shall remain stashed on fantasy rosters.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 6/25, 9:51 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine gave up four earned runs on six hits over 5.1 innings in tonight's 10-4 win over the Phillies at Tropicana Field. He had one walk and fired seven strikeouts.

Our View: It was not a strong outing for Sonnanstine, but the Rays provided enough offensive support for him to collect his sixth win of the season. Five of his wins came over his last eight starts. He should remain employed in fantasy lineups despite a poor 6.61 ERA.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 6/19, 10:53 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine struggled in Friday's 5-3 loss at the Mets, as he gave up four earned runs on seven hits over six innings. He had two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Sonnanstine falls to 5-7, and his ERA climbs to 6.60. He has allowed 12 earned runs over his last three starts, and he looks to be an unstable fantasy option for his next turn in the rotation.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 6/19, 10:12 AM CT
The Associated Press reports that Rays pitcher Andy Sonnanstine has won six consecutive interleague play decisions. He is pitching tonight at Citi Field against the Mets.

Our View: This is good news for the Rays since Sonnanstine's 6.55 ERA is the highest in the majors of any qualified starter. The team desperately needs him to get on track if they are going to contend in the AL east going forward.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 6/13, 8:05 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed three earned runs on six hits over 7.1 innings in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Nationals at Tropicana Field. He issued one walk and fired five strikeouts.

Our View: Sonnanstine bounced back after giving up five runs and four homers to the Yankees in his previous start. He has racked up four wins over his last six starts, and he should remain active in fantasy lineups.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysMonday 6/8, 8:55 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine was lit up for five earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Monday's 5-3 loss at New York. He had two walks with one strikeout, and gave up four homers.

Our View: Sonnanstine falls to 4-6 for the season, and his ERA climbs to 7.00. This marks the fifth time he has allowed five or more earned runs, and has allowed 12 homers over his last six starts.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 6/2, 9:02 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine was solid from the hill in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Royals at Tropicana Field, as he only allowed two earned runs on six hits over 6.2 innings. He had no walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: He bounced back well from his previous outing in which he was rocked for eight runs at Cleveland. He has earned a win in three of his last four starts.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 5/27, 11:45 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine got roughed up by the Indians on Wednesday as the Rays fell to the Indians 12-7. Sonnanstine went three innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out three.

Our View: Sonnanstine has not been great this season, and his 2008 season is starting to feel like a long time ago. His fantasy value is very low right now, and he is a risky play every time he toes the rubber at this point.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 5/22, 10:28 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine gave up only one run over six innings of work in Tampa Bay's 15-2 win over the Marlins on Friday.

Our View: Sonnanstine allowed 12 earned runs in his previous two starts. He has not looked much like the strong performer from a season ago, but there's still hope he regains his form. Sonnanstine could be trade bait for the Rays coming up as they have recently recalled David Price from Triple-A. Once Scott Kazmir returns, they will have to make a decision with what to do with their six starters.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 5/6, 10:44 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed two runs over 7.1 innings as he struck out four without walking a single batter against the Yankees. He ended up with a no-decision as the game went extra innings before the Rays eventually won 4-3 in 10 innings.

Our View: Sonnanstine now has back-to-back outings with two earned runs allowed as he tries to rebound from a couple of rough outings in his first four starts. He still doesn't strike anyone out, but as long as he throws strikes, he can have success.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 5/2, 12:19 AM CT
Andy Sonnanstine picked up his first win of the season on Friday as the Rays defeated the Red Sox 6-2. Sonnanstine went 5.2 innings while giving up two runs on eight hits and walked four and struck out one.

Our View: Sonnanstine hasn't been very good this year, but this was his best start of the season. Hopefully this turns things around for him, as he finally looked like the pitcher he was in 2008.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 4/26, 7:57 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine was abused by a weak Oakland lineup on Sunday. He allowed seven runs on ten hits and two walks over just four innings. He received his third loss of the season in the Rays' 7-1 loss to the A's.

Our View: Sonnanstine is now 0-3 on the season with a 7.78 ERA, and last year's vaunted Rays pitching staff looks very hittable in 2009. Probably why they are 7-12 on the year.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 4/15, 7:18 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine was decent in his outing against the Yankees on Wednesday, but he didn't last very long. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk over just five innings and struck out three. He did not factor in the decision.

Our View: This was much better than Sonnanstine's first start of the season where he allowed five runs over 4.2 innings, but still not what you would want out of a fantasy starter.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 3/31, 5:21 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed five runs over seven innings Tuesday. He gave up six hits and two walks and upped his spring ERA to an unimpressive 5.28.

Our View: Sonnanstine will have some fantasy value in the win category if the Rays continue to be a productive club and support him offensively, but his k/9 and H/9 leave much to be desired.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 3/26, 8:23 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed four runs on seven hits Thursday and failed to finish five innings. He was tagged with the loss.

Our View: Sonnanstine will be in the Rays rotation this season and will be an innings eater for them. He doesn't have dominating numbers, but his K/BB rate can be valuable. Look for similar numbers as last year.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysMonday 3/16, 10:16 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed one run over three innings of work as the Rays defeated Pittsburgh 6-4 on Monday. He struck out two, while allowing three hits and no walks.

Our View: Sonnanstine will give up his fair share of hits, but he is able to drastically limit the amount of free passes he hands out. Despite being overloaded with starters, Sonnanstine's spot in the rotation is not in jeopardy.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 11/5, 10:13 AM CT
The NY Post states the Mets had preliminary talks with Rays' hurler Andy Sonnanstine. The Mets also inquired about Edwin Jackson.

Our View: Sonnanstine would boost the Mets' rotation, as he held a favorable 1.29 WHIP over 193.1 innings for the AL champion Rays in 2008. Tampa Bay could afford to part with him, with David Price, Scott Kazmir, James Shields and Matt Garza still in their rotation.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 10/26, 10:53 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine had a forgettable outing in Game 4 of the World Series. He lasted just four innings and allowed five runs (three earned). He gave up six hits and walked three batters in the effort.

Our View: Sonnanstine got off to a rocky start when Jimmy Rollins was called safe on a play that he was clearly tagged out on. That play set into motion a long night for the Tampa Bay starter.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 10/21, 4:59 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine will likely be the Rays' Game 4 starter and he will also be available to pitch out of the bullpen in Game 1, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: Sonnanstine was excellent in Game 4 of the ALCS while going 7.1 innings. In 32 starts in the regular season he was 13-9 with a 4.38 ERA.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 10/14, 10:19 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine continued his success against the Red Sox this season in Game 4 of the ALCS. The 25-year-old went 7.1 innings with a comfortable lead and allowed four runs on six hits to earn his second win of the postseason.

Our View: Sonnanstine seemed to be in command of the Boston hitters most of the night. His next start could very well come in the World Series as the Rays lead the Sox 3-1 in the series.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysMonday 10/6, 8:45 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed two runs in 5.2 innings to the White Sox as he emerged victorious for the Rays in Game 4. Sonnanstine allowed only three hits, though two were home runs, while walking just one batter.

Our View: Sonnanstine continues to be the least imposing of the Rays top-4 starters, but no one can argue with his effectiveness as he continues to pound the strike zone while avoiding free passes. Tonight's effort produced his 14th victory of the season.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 9/21, 3:21 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine lost his eighth game of the season when he went 6.2 innings and allowed two earned runs in Tampa's 4-1 loss to Minnesota.

Our View: Sonnanstine ran into hard luck by getting no-decisions his last two starts and a loss in this one. He is 0-1 in those three starts, but has a 1.86 ERA.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 9/10, 11:28 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine was masterful in a no-decision against the Red Sox as he permitted just four hits, one run (it was unearned) and didn't walk a batter over seven innings.

Our View: Sonnanstine was on his game on this night as he also struck out seven batters thanks to pinpoint control. After three straight marginal performances it was great to see him bounce back against the Sox in this pivotal series.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 9/5, 9:00 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine lost for the first time in seven starts, allowing four runs and five hits in six innings against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Our View: Sonnanstine had been enjoying a nice run but ran into a red hot Roy Halladay on Friday.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 8/14, 12:14 AM CT
In tonight's battle between the A's and Rays, both pitchers were hot but one had to leave with the loss. That would be Oakland's Justin Duchscherer, going 6 1/3 innings to surrender three runs (all earned) on six hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. The winner was Tampa's Andy Sonnanstine , going six strong to surrender two runs (both earned) on six hit with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: Sonnanstine moves to 12-6 on the season, now touting consecutive wins after three consecutive losses.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 8/7, 11:26 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine threw a great game, going 7.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out four in the Rays loss to Seattle.

Our View: Sonnanstine has a good win total and decent WHIP, but his ERA is a bit high to be utilized in mixed leagues. He is certainly a good option in AL-only leagues, however.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 8/2, 8:59 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine only allowed two earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Saturday's 9-3 win over the Tigers at Tropicana Field, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View: Sonnanstine locked up his 11th win of the season, and snapped a three-game losing streak.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 7/22, 10:03 PM CT
The Rays suffered a slip against Oakland this evening, falling 8-1 with a troubled offensive effort (just seven total hits) to waste a worthy outing for RHP Andy Sonnanstine . Sonnanstine pitched seven innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View: Sonnanstine moves to 10-5 on the season with an ERA of 4.54. It represents his second consecutive loss after going without a fall over his previous seven starts.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 7/22, 2:40 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine (10-4, 4.58 ERA) will start Tuesday, July 22, against the Athletics, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sonnanstine hopes to tally his 11th win and rebound from his last performance, losing against the Indians on July 10th (5.1 innings, 6 ER, 0 strike outs).
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 7/10, 9:15 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine lost his fourth game against 10 victories on Thursday night as he allowed six runs, all earned, over 5.1 innings. On the night, Andy didn't walk a batter, but he also didn't have a single strikeout.

Our View: This outing ended a streak of 8-straight in which he had allowed three or fewer earned runs. Sonnanstine just doesn't miss a lot of bats, so when he is forced to come into the strike zone, he can be hit hard. Still, this guy has given you more than you could have hoped for, even though his ratios are nothing more than average at this point (4.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP).
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 7/5, 9:52 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine pitched seven shutout innings against the Royals on Saturday in his 10th victory of the season for the Rays. The Royals only managed to produce five hits and draw a single walk on the evening.

Our View: Sonnanstine was at his best tonight, and though the majority of his numbers are great, he keeps the Rays in the game more often than not and gives the offense a chance to earn him a "W."
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 6/29, 4:45 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine pushed his record to 9-3 with a solid win over the Pirates on Sunday. The 25-year-old right-hander held the Bucs to five hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings. He walked one and struck out four. It was the first time in seven starts than Sonnanstine had worked more than five innings.

Our View: Sonnastine had a decent June after a rough May. He has settled in as a nice back-end hurler for the Rays, but fantasy owners should continue to be wary of him despite the record.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 6/24, 10:11 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine gave up just two earned runs in five innings on Tuesday. He struck out five, walked two and scattered six hits in the effort.

Our View: The bigger news here may be that Sonnanstine has not made it to the six-inning mark in any of his last six starts.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 6/24, 1:57 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine will be targeting his ninth win of the season tonight when he takes the hill against the Marlins in inter-league play, according to MLB.com. Sonnanstine is 8-3 with a 4.92 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 89.2 innings, with 58 strikeouts.

Our View: His win total is strong, but he isn't a solid fantasy starter in mixed leagues as his ERA and WHIP are too high, and his strikeout totals are too low. He allowed three earned runs over 5.1 innings in his previous outing against the Marlins on June 13.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 6/18, 10:58 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed three runs in five-plus innings and Tampa Bay's bullpen held off the bats of the Cubs for the second straight night to help the Rays clinch their ninth consecutive series at home. The right-hander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four.

Our View: The win gave Sonnanstine eight victories on the season.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 6/14, 12:13 AM CT
Andy Sonnanstine allowed three runs on six hits, walked none and struck out five for his seventh victory of the season.

Our View: The Rays' right-hander worked 5.1 innings and did little for his ERA, but did enough to get a much needed win for Tampa Bay.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 6/1, 3:49 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine scattered 10 hits over 5.2 innings of work against the White Sox on Sunday. He held the opposition to three runs and took a no-decision. Sonnanstine has now served up 55 hits over his last 35.2 frames.

Our View: Sonnanstine continues to lack whatever mojo he showed in April, and we have to wonder how long the Rays will stick with him.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 5/27, 9:44 PM CT
It was a difficult evening on the mound for RHP Andy Sonnanstine this evening, taking the loss as the Rays fell 12-6 to the Rangers. Sonnanstine lasted just five innings, surrendering seven runs (only two earned) on ten hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Sonnanstine left the month of April with a record of 4-1, but with his second consecutive loss, he has fallen to 6-3, and tonight's performance will not help an already-distressing 6.12 ERA through May.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 5/27, 12:40 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine will be aiming for his seventh win of the season tonight when the Rays host the Rangers, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He is 6-2 for the season, but holds a poor 5.09 ERA over 63.2 innings, with only 36 strikeouts. He got rocked for seven runs in his last start against Oakland, and holds a 10.38 ERA against Texas. He is an unfavorable fantasy option for tonight, despite his solid win/loss record.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 5/16, 10:01 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine only allowed one run on eight hits over eight innings in Friday's 3-1 win over the Cardinals, with no walks and four strikeouts. The only run came on a Chris Duncan homer.

Our View: Sonnanstine is now 6-1 for the season, but holds an unimpressive 4.53 ERA. The Rays average just under seven runs of support over his nine starts.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 5/6, 9:21 PM CT
It wasn't pretty, but Andy Sonnanstine improved to 5-1 with a win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday. The right-hander allowed 10 hits and four runs over six innings. He also walked one and struck out two.

Our View: A little luck and offensive support never hurt, right? That's four wins in as many starts for Sonnanstine, who pitched a lot better in his previous victories. He's no fantasy ace, but his record should get him noticed in more and more mixed leagues.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 4/30, 9:25 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine improved to 4-1 by limiting the Orioles to one run over eight innings. Sonnanstine allowed six hits, two walks and picked up five K.

Our View: That ERA is still a bit high at 4.42, but his WHIP is at 1.16 which is very nice. His K/9 is only 4.89, and that is below what we would like to see (6.00), but he keeps the walks down which allows him to be successful without being dominating.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 4/24, 10:48 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine permitted three runs on six hits and two walks over 6.1 innings to pick up his third victory.

Our View: Sonnanstine will remain a useful pitcher in deep AL Only leagues, and with just a little improvement he could even be considered for spot duty in mixed leagues.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 4/20, 5:09 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine will move up and start in rookie right-hander Jeff Niemann's slot in the rotation, this according to the St. Petersburg Times. Sonnanstine will get the nod on Thursday and Matt Garza is coming off the DL to start on Friday.

Our View: Sonnanstine threw a complete game on Saturday, the first of his career, and as a result has been rewarded with a permanent spot in the rotation. However, with Scott Kazmir (elbow) expected back at the end of the month, Sonnanstine's permanent assignment could end up being temporary.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 4/19, 8:35 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine threw the first complete game of his career on Saturday night against the White Sox as he also hurled his first shutout by limiting the Sox to just three hits and a walk in a 5-0 victory.

Our View: Sonnanstine lowered his ERA to 5.55 with this outing and will have a hard time being remotely this good next time out when he is schedule to face the Blue Jays.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysThursday 4/3, 7:59 PM CT
The Rays will keep their rotation in the same order after Thursday's rainout, according to the AP. That means Andy Sonnanstine will now start Friday against the Yankees, while everyone else gets bumped back a day. Tough break for the righty, as he goes from facing the worst offense in the AL in Baltimore to possibly the best.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSaturday 3/22, 6:47 PM CT
With Scott Kazmir needing more time to return from a left-elbow strain, the Rays had spots to fill in the starting rotation and wasted little time in announcing how they would do so. Rays manager Joe Maddon named his starting rotation Saturday, announcing Andy Sonnanstine will fill the spot behind James Shields and Matt Garza, according to MLB.com. Edwin Jackson and Jason Hammel will complete the group as J.P. Howell is pushed into a competition for a job in the bullpen. Sonnasnstine has posted an ERA of 0.64 this spring and is being rewarded for the effort with an opportunity to prove his mettle in the majors.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 3/12, 4:58 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine moved closer to securing a spot in Tampa Bay's rotation with a stellar outing Wednesday. The right-hander gave up one hit in three scoreless innings and has now tossed six scoreless frames this spring with only one hit allowed. He's a nice sleeper to target late in your draft.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysSunday 6/10, 3:21 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine struggled in his big-league debut, but he looked much more comfortable in his second start Sunday. Sonnanstine gave up two runs on seven hits over seven innings while striking out 10. Sonnanstine struck out seven straight hitters at one point.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysTuesday 6/5, 9:50 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine lasted seven innings in his major league debut on Tuesday. However, the Blue Jays scored six runs on eight hits, leaving the rookie winless in his first game. There was a bright side, though, as he allowed no walks and struck out five. His next start will come Sunday versus the Marlins.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 6/1, 9:55 PM CT
The Devil Rays purchased the contract of Andy Sonnanstine on Friday night. He is slated to start on Tuesday against the Blue Jays, the AP reports. The 24-year-old right-hander was 6-4 with a 2.66 ERA over 11 starts at Triple-A Durham.
Andy Sonnanstine, P, Tampa Bay RaysFriday 6/1, 11:08 AM CT
Andy Sonnanstine may be promoted along with J.P. Howell to take over for Jae Seo and Casey Fossum in the Devil Rays rotation, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
