Darren Oliver, P, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 10/11, 8:24 PM CT
Reliever Darren Oliver appeared in all three games in the Angels sweep of the Red Sox in the ALDS. He did not allow a run in 2.1 innings and was credited with the win on Sunday.

Our View: The 39-year-old left-hander carried a 2.71 ERA and 1.14 WHIP this season. He struck out 65 hitters in 73 innings of work, making him one of the best left-handed relievers in the game.

The Angels activated Darren Oliver from the disabled list Monday. He had been recovering from a strained left triceps. Fernando Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake to make room on the roster.

Our View: Oliver will go back to being the team's long man, though if Ervin Santana or John Lackey suffer setbacks in their recoveries, it's possible he could get some more starts.

Reliever Darren Oliver (triceps) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, and he is expected to come off the DL next Monday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Our View: Oliver doesn't have much fantasy value, but the Angels are very thin on pitching right now and they badly need his able arm back in the bullpen.

Darren Oliver has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Angels with a strained left triceps, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View: This is a tough loss, as he was lending support to a thinned out Angels' rotation. He may return to a middle relief role upon his return, hence dropping his fantasy value.

According to the Orange County Register, Darren Oliver will get the start on Saturday against the Minnesota Twins.

Our View: Oliver will take the mound for one game and fill the void left by the tragic death of Nick Adenhart. Someone will likely be brought up from Triple-A to take Oliver's spot in the bullpen. It's unknown how long he will remain in the rotation.

The Angels avoided salary arbitration with Darren Oliver by signing him to a one-year deal for $3.655 million, according to ESPN.

Our View: He will be 39 in 2009, but the lefty was worth re-signing as he held a 1.15 WHIP over 72 innings of relief with the Angels last season, while nailing down seven wins.

Fox Sports reports that free-agent left-hander Darren Oliver will accept salary arbitration from the Angels and remain with the club.

Our View: Oliver, 38, has spent the last two seasons with the Angels as a key lefty specialist out of the bullpen. He picked up seven wins with a 2.88 ERA in 72 innings last season.

John Perrotto of BaseballProspectus.com believes the only player seriously considering accepting an arbitration offer is Darren Oliver of the Angels.

Our View: The Reds have dropped out of the running to sign him as they don't want to part with their draft picks. Oliver is 38 years old, but won seven games for the Angels in 2008 with a solid 1.15 WHIP over 72 innings of relief.

The Detroit Tigers are interested in signing left-handed reliever Darren Oliver, according to the Detroit Free-Press.

Our View: Oliver is 38 years old, but has been an effective hurler against left-handed hitters for the Angels for two seasons.

It looks like the Angels should have Darren Oliver in tow next season. He only needs one more appearance to reach 60, which will kick in his $2 million option for the 2008 campaign, according to the LA Times. Olive got off to a slow start this season, carrying a 7.98 ERA through his first 19 games, but since then he's allowed only 10 runs in 48 innings.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that Darren Oliver has reached a preliminary agreement with the Angels on a one-year contract with an option for 2008. Oliver will serve as a lefty specialist and long reliever out of the bullpen.
