Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 12/19, 3:30 PM CT
According to Jon Morosi on Twitter, the Cubs contacted the Nationals about the availability of outfielder Nyjer Morgan.

Our View: Unfortunately for the Cubs, his availability is zero. The Nats aren't willing to part with the speedster as he is affordable, a strong defender and hit .307 with 42 steals and 74 runs scored last season. He went down in August with a broken wrist that ended his season, but should be fine for spring training. Expect the Cubs to push harder for Marlon Byrd now that it seems they have less options.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 8/28, 11:29 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that the Nationals have officially placed outfielder Nyjer Morgan on the DL with a broken hand. Morgan is expected to miss the rest of the 2009 season due to the injury.

Our View: This move was obvious, but now it is official. The team recalled Pete Orr from Triple-A Syracuse to replace Morgan on the roster, and it is an unfortunate end to what turned out to be a very good season from the speedy Morgan.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 8/27, 7:32 PM CT
The Washington Post has confirmed that Nyjer Morgan has indeed suffered a broken left hand and will miss the rest of the 2009 season.

Our View: If nothing else, Morgan's injury should all but assure the Nationals of finishing with the majors' worst record, giving them the chance to draft phenom Bryce Harper first overall in next year's draft if they so choose.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 8/27, 5:09 PM CT
According to Yahoo! Sports' Jamie Mottram, the injury that forced Nyjer Morgan to leave the Nationals game in the first inning on Thursday was a broken left hand that could force him to miss the rest of 2009.

Our View: Not fun news for the Nationals, who had been playing like a different club since acquiring Morgan from the Pirates in June. While spurring the Nats to a 23-28 record (as opposed to 23-54 before he arrived) he has hit .351 and stolen 24 bases since relocating to the nation's capital. More news as it develops.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 8/27, 2:23 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan exited Thursday's game against the Cubs in the first inning with a jammed left hand.

Our View: Morgan has been battling the flu recently, missing the team's two previous games, but it appears the jammed hand is the culprit here. He walked and scored before leaving the game, and was replaced by Willie Harris in centerfield
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/26, 8:32 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan will be in the Nationals' starting lineup on Thursday after missing the team's previous two games with the flu, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: Morgan is hitting .351 as a National, and has stolen 22 bases in just 48 games since relocating to the nation's capital.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/18, 9:08 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan went 3-for-4 and stole his 39th base of the season in the Nationals' 4-3 loss to the Rockies Tuesday night.

Our View: Morgan is hitting .310 this season and is a fine option for average, runs and steals in all fantasy formats. He's hitting right around .360 since joining the Nationals.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/11, 9:37 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan collected two hits and swiped two more bases on Tuesday, but couldn't propel the Nats to their ninth straight win, as Washington lost 8-1 in Atlanta.

Our View: Morgan now has 38 steals on the season, and has been creating chaos at the top of the Nats lineup. Despite his lack of power (three homers, 36 RBI), he's a good option in all formats.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/28, 11:09 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan went 2-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI in the Nationals' 8-3 victory over the Brewers on Tuesday. Morgan is hitting .304 on the season.

Our View: Morgan seems to enjoy playing with the Nats, because he has been very good since coming over in the trade. The home run was nice, but don't expect many more to come from him this season, as he is more of a prototypical leadoff hitter who gets on base and scores runs.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/8, 5:31 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan was 3-for-4 with a run scored on Wednesday, but the Nationals fell 10-4 to the Rockies.

Our View: Morgan now has eight hits in six games since coming over from the Pirates, and doesn't appear to be suffering any post-trade drop off. He is a solid option in most NL-only leagues, but only a fringe player in most mixed ones.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 7/5, 5:12 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Braves at Nationals Park. He hit two doubles and a single, and also swiped a base.

Our View: Morgan was in need of a solid outing, as he was hitless over his last two games (seven at-bats). He also snapped a five-game skid without an RBI.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/30, 2:25 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Pirates beat writer Dejan Kovacevic now says that the trade sending Nyjer Morgan and Sean Burnett to Washington in exchange for Lastings Milledge and Joel Hanrahan is a "done deal."

Our View: Morgan is having a career year in Pittsburgh in 2009, batting .277 with 27 RBIs and 18 steals, but the Pirates believe it is just that - a career year. They apparently also still see the limitless potential in Milledge that the Mets and Nationals once saw. Milledge is expected to join the big club once the deal is finalized.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/30, 2:02 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Pirates beat writer Dejan Kovacevic now says the teams have agreed "in principle" to a trade that would swap Nyjer Morgan for Lastings Milledge. Relievers Sean Burnett and Joel Hanrahan are also believed to be a part of the deal.

Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/30, 12:25 PM CT
According to the Twitter page of Pirates' beat writer Dejan Kovacevic, the Pirates are close to a trade that would send Nyjer Morgan to the Nationals is exchange for Lastings Milledge. The deal is not done, but Kovacevic speculates it could be done soon.

Our View: For now this is just a rumor, but it has been picking up steam over the last few days. Stay tuned for more info on the situation, as it is likely that this trade could go down sometime later today.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 6/29, 8:46 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan went 3-for-4 in tonight's 3-1 loss to the Cubs at PNC Park. All three of his knocks were singles.

Our View: The Pirates had nine hits in the game, and stranded 15 men on base. Morgan recorded multiple hits in five of his last eight games, and is riding a four-game hitting streak.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 6/26, 8:47 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan led the Pirates offensively in tonight's 5-3 win over the Royals at PNC Park, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. He hit a single and a two-run homer off Gil Meche.

Our View: Morgan has a hit in four of his last five games, and ended a three-game skid without an RBI. He hit his second homer of June tonight as well.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 6/19, 11:19 AM CT
Nyjer Morgan's error on Thursday was the Pirates first outfield error of the season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The Pirates are tied for the National League's highest fielding percentage at .989.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/16, 10:30 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan provided the Pirates only offense on Tuesday, hitting a two-run home run in the third inning as the Bucs lost 8-2 to the Twins. It was Morgan's first home run of the season.

Our View: In case you didn't know, Morgan is not a power bat. He does a lot of everything else, though, as he sports 24 RBIs, 35 runs scored and 15 stolen bases through 60 games this season. He is not an ideal fantasy outfielder, but a decent option in NL only or deeper mixed leagues.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/9, 9:34 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in Monday's 4-3 loss at Atlanta. He also stole a base, his 13th of the season.

Our View: Morgan collected his third multi-hit game of June, but is still only hitting .219 in the month.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 5/18, 6:19 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that Nyjer Morgan was a late scratch on Monday due to his hamstring injury flaring up. He was replaced by Brandon Moss in left field.

Our View: Morgan was supposed to return tonight, but he felt a pinch in his hamstring prior to the game. He did not want to rush back and re-injure himself, so he sat tonight. He should be back in the next few days, but it is uncertain if he will be ready in the next game.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 5/18, 9:04 AM CT
Nyjer Morgan is expected to return to the Pirates' lineup tonight at Washington after missing the last two games with a sore right hamstring, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: He fared fine while running, and has been given the green light to return. Morgan should be safe to pencil back into fantasy lineups.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/16, 7:20 PM CT
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that Nyjer Morgan will be out for at least the next two games after tweaking his hamstring on Friday.

Our View: Morgan has been good for the Pirates this season and has developed into a solid NL-only option. Keep him out for the rest of the weekend, but get him back into the lineup at the beginning of the week.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 5/11, 9:07 AM CT
Skipper John Russell has been pleased with Nyjer Morgan so far this season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Russell said, "He is doing really well. Swinging the bat and playing good defense, too."

Our View: Morgan's .291 batting average currently ranks fifth among all leadoff hitters in the majors, as does his .376 OBP. He has also chipped in six stolen bases.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/22, 4:42 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan went 1-for-4 with a walk and two steals as the Pirates beat the Marlins 7-4 on Wednesday.

Our View: Morgan is now up to six steals, and he's been among the bigger fantasy surprises in the early going. As long as the Pirates keep Andrew McCutcheon in Triple-A, Morgan's starting spot is not in jeopardy. However, he's off to a hot start and could be brought up before too long.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 4/16, 3:30 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and a run scored as the Pirates fell 6-3 in Houston on Thursday.

Our View: Morgan is now hitting .400 and he has a firm grasp on the right field job in Pittsburgh. He reminds a lot of people of Juan Pierre and that comparison is enough to gamble on for fantasy owners.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/11, 3:13 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan continued to make fantasy owners smile Saturday, picking up three hits, an RBI, two runs and two steals.

Our View: Morgan has proven to be a great fantasy find in the early going, with a .391 average and three steals.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 3/30, 8:33 AM CT
Pirates' GM Neal Huntington commented on struggling outfielder Nyjer Morgan, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Huntington said, "Nyjer has had a tough spring, but we do not want to make too much of that. He has done some of the things we have asked, but he has not gotten the results. He is going to have to go out and do what we need, though, at some point because we have Eric Hinske and Craig Monroe."

Our View: Morgan is only batting .203 in spring action, and it sounds like his starting spot in left field is not safe. He needs to raise his average if he is to bat leadoff as well.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 3/6, 10:25 AM CT
The Pirates are considering Nyjer Morgan for the leadoff spot in the batting order, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Skipper John Russell feels the lineup will be stronger if he emerges as a legitimate leadoff man, and outfielder Nate McLouth added, "No question about it, we are better if Nyjer can come through up there."

Our View: Morgan would provide little power, but could hit for a solid average. He could be a solid source for speed, and would be worth a look as a flier for NL-only leagues if he earns a starting spot as the Pirates' leadoff man.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 2/13, 8:58 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette believes the Pirates are prepared to go with Nyjer Morgan in left field.

Our View: He could be pushed by veteran addition Eric Hinske and Craig Monroe. The team needs power, and Morgan's top asset is speed. He would be worth targeting as a flier for NL-only leagues if he manages to win a starting gig though.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 10/5, 8:34 AM CT
Nyjer Morgan will sit out the Mexican Pacific League this winter due to a strained hamstring that he suffered during the last week of the season, reports the Beaver County Times.

Our View: Morgan will likely compete for a bench spot in the Pirates outfield in spring training.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 9/25, 8:21 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan has left the Pirates game early with an apparent leg injury, according to the AP.

Our View: There is still no word on the seriousness of injury.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 9/25, 7:48 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan appeared to hurt his hamstring running out an infield hit to lead off Pittsburgh’s game Thursday night against the Milwaukee Brewers according to the AP. Morgan ran through the base in the first inning and grabbed his left hamstring. He spent several minutes talking to a trainer before exiting, but ran off the field without a limp.

Our View: Morgan was hitting .289 with nine stolen bases in 159 at-bats over 57 games. He has been one of the NL’s best outfielders since Aug. 20, batting .354 and reaching base safely in 25 of his 27 starts.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 9/23, 10:26 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan had four hits, drove in two runs and stole a base in the Pirates' loss to the Brewers Tuesday.

Our View: Morgan is hitting .345 since being recalled in mid-August and has added eight steals over that time.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/17, 8:31 AM CT
Nyjer Morgan started for the fourth time over five games Tuesday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The team has been pleased with his progress and manager John Russell said, "He's still learning a lot, but he's taking advantage of his opportunity right now. It's going to be a big off-season for him, a big spring. He wasn't as prepared this past spring as he could have been, and he now needs to put himself into a better position."

Our View: Morgan has registered two hits in each of his last two games, and is doing a solid job in his bid for a roster spot in 2009.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/10, 8:53 AM CT
Nyjer Morgan was held out of Tuesday's lineup after committing a baserunning error on Monday against Houston, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Morgan tried to score from third with nobody out on an errant pickoff attempt and was subsequently thrown out at home.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 9/7, 11:45 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan will play winter ball for the Pirates this offseason, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Joining him will be relievers Jesse Chavez and Dave Davidson, and outfielders Steve Pearce and Chris Duffy.

Our View: Morgan and the others need more at-bats to get ready for the 2009 season. Morgan did not have a great year in the big leagues, hitting just .242 with four home runs and six stolen bases.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/19, 7:57 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan was called up by the team following Monday's game to take Doug Mientkiewicz's spot on the 25-man roster as he spends time on the bereavement list, but he has been inserted into tonight's starting lineup as outfielder Nate McLouth battles flu-like symptoms, according to MLB.com.

Our View: With this latest callup, Morgan has been with the Pirates now three separate times this season. However, Tuesday marked just Morgan's fifth start in the 41 games with the Major League club. Morgan had six hits in 42 at-bats with the Pirates this year. After a rough start to the season -- one that started with minimal playing time at the Major League level -- Morgan has rediscovered his swing in recent weeks. Since the start of July, Morgan has hit .340 with 13 extra-base hits, 19 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He also has 25 stolen bases during that seven-week span.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 8/18, 3:13 PM CT
Nyjer Morgan is being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Doug Mientkiewicz has been placed on the bereavement list as the adjoining move.

Our View: Morgan could develop into a solid pro in the future for the Pirates, but he is not yet ready to make an impact, as he held a .143 average over 42 at-bats with the team this season. He was also caught twice on three steal attempts. He should only be considered for deeper NL-only leagues.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsMonday 8/18, 7:08 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette states that Nyjer Morgan is a "virtual lock" to get called up in September. He has been the best player at Triple-A Indianapolis for a month.

Our View: Morgan could develop into a solid pro for the Pirates, but he is not yet ready to make an impact, as he held a .143 average over 42 at-bats with the team this season. He was also caught twice on three steal attempts.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsSunday 6/29, 8:57 AM CT
Nyjer Morgan has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Morgan held no fantasy value prior to his demotion, as he maintained an anemic .143 average over 42 at-bats, with no homers and two RBI. He has also been caught on two of three steal attempts.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 6/20, 10:53 AM CT
Nyjer Morgan is being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis today, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: This could be a sign that Xavier Nady is headed for the DL due to his injured left shoulder. If so, Nady would be eligible to return on June 30. Morgan holds little to no fantasy value, as he failed to make an impact in his previous stint with the club this season with a .161 average over 31 at-bats, with no homers.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsFriday 5/9, 10:32 AM CT
Nyjer Morgan has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The team made the move when they acquired Jason Michaels from the Indians. GM Neal Huntington said, "We felt this was the best thing for Nyjer's continued development. He's played an important role for us, but we want him to be an everyday major-leaguer. He needs to be on the field."

Our View: Morgan proved he wasn't ready to make an impact with the Pirates yet, as he only hit .161 with no homers or RBI over 31 at-bats.
Nyjer Morgan, LF, Washington NationalsThursday 4/24, 7:35 AM CT
Manager John Russell stated that Nyjer Morgan would see some action in the outfield before the end of their homestand, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: He is only 3-for-23 (.130) this season, with seven strikeouts, and isn't worth a look. He has talent, but isn't ready to make an impact.
