J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 7/2, 9:24 PM CT
J.A. Happ only allowed two earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Thursday's 5-2 loss at Atlanta. He had two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Happ pitched well tonight, and it is a shame he was forced to take a no-decision due to poor run support from his teammates. He has allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last three starts, but only collected one win over the span.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 6/27, 2:52 PM CT
J.A. Happ was in a groove on Saturday. The Phillies hurler went the distance, shutting out the Blue Jays in a 10-0 win. He allowed just five hits and did not walk a batter as he improved to 5-0 on the season.

Our View: The crafty lefty stayed perfect on the season with a masterful performance against the Jays. Since moving from the pen to the rotation Happ has four quality starts in seven outings and holds a very respectable 3.00 ERA on the season. He seems to give the Phils a chance to win every time he takes the mound.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 6/20, 10:00 PM CT
J.A. Happ pitched well enough to win on Saturday, but his bullpen let him down as the Phillies fell to the Orioles 6-5. Happ went six innings and allowed two runs on ten hits while walking four and striking out four.

Our View: Happ got himself out of a lot of trouble throughout the night, but in the end he only let up two runs in his six innings. Still not a dominating performance, but he should have gotten the win tonight.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 6/14, 4:19 PM CT
J.A. Happ struggled a bit on Sunday, but he was bailed out by his offense as the Phillies beat the Red Sox 11-6. Happ went 5.2 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits while walking six and striking out three. He did not factor into the decision.

Our View: Happ was not in control today, and his six walks in 5.2 innings is far too high. His offense crushed the ball, so he didn't get hit with the loss, but this wasn't one of his better showings. Happ has been putting up decent numbers, and is serviceable in NL-only leagues.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 6/4, 12:24 AM CT
J.A. Happ tossed seven shutout innings in the Phillies 5-1 win over the Padres on Wednesday. He allowed only four hits, walked two, and struck out four as he improved to 4-0 on the season.

Our View: The left-hander has been solid through his three starts after starting the season as a reliever. He threw 112 pitches tonight and he looks to have solidified his spot in the rotation
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 5/29, 9:48 PM CT
J.A. Happ allowed three runs on three hits and three walks over 5.1 innings on Friday and improved to 3-0 on the season. He fanned five as the Phillies nipped the Nationals 5-4.

Our View: Happ has been very good since his move from the bullpen. Now that he's starting he's a solid option in NL-only leagues and an intriguing one in mixed formats. He has a very respectable 3.00 ERA on the season so far.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSaturday 5/23, 6:43 PM CT
J.A. Happ was great in his debut start against the Yankees on Saturday, yielding two runs off six hits and zero walks with four strikeouts, though he was unable to get a win after Brad Lidge blew the game in the ninth inning.

Our View: Happ was fine as a spot-starter at the end of last season and logged a great first start after an effective first month and a half in middle relief thus far in 2009. While the Phillies are reportedly in the market to add another starter, Happ will remain in the rotation for the time being and be given a chance to stick. He should definitely be added in AL-only and deep mixed leagues, and can even be given a look in more standard leagues as long as he holds a spot on a Phillies team that should provide nice support.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 5/19, 4:29 PM CT
According to MLB.com, J.A. Happ will replace Chan Ho Park in the Phillies' struggling rotation.

Our View: Park has been awful this season with a 7.08 ERA in seven starts, while Happ has been very effective out of the bullpen. The team feels he'll give them a better chance to win than the aging import. Happ has a 2.49 ERA in 21.2 innings this season and may be worth a look in NL-only leagues.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 5/14, 10:24 AM CT
J.A. Happ will start the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: Happ fired 12 strikeouts and holds a 1.11 WHIP over 15.1 innings of relief, and is worth fantasy consideration with a favorable match-up against Washington (11-21).
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 5/13, 7:36 PM CT
MLB.com reports that J.A. Happ is likely to get the start in the night game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Our View: Happ has been pitching effectively out of the bullpen this season and should have the conditioning to give the team five innings on Saturday. He was in competition for the fifth spot in the rotation in spring training, but lost out to Chan Ho Park.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 4/3, 5:23 PM CT
Lefthander J.A. Happ has been named to the Phillies' 25-man roster, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: The 26-year-old Happ lost out on the fifth spot in the rotation to Chan Ho Park, but he will serve in the Philies bullpen, though it is not determined in what capacity.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 3/23, 4:41 PM CT
J.A. Happ surrendered two runs on five hits in five innings against the Yankees on Monday. He walked three and struck out three.

Our View: Happ's fantasy value will greatly depend upon his role with the Phillies. He's still being considered for a spot in the rotation, but if veteran Chan Ho Park impresses, he could just as easily wind up as a lefty specialist in the bullpen.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 1/16, 9:26 AM CT
J.A. Happ will be aiming for a rotation spot with the Phillies in spring training, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Happ will be competing against Chan Ho Park, Kyle Kendrick and Carlos Carrasco, among others, for the fifth spot in the rotation. He held a decent 1.33 WHIP over 31.2 innings in 2008, and could be worth a look in NL-only leagues if he nails down the job with the defending champs.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 9/30, 2:15 PM CT
J.A. Happ has made the Phillies' postseason roster as a long reliever, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: Happ held a 1.33 WHIP over 31.2 innings, with 26 strikeouts in the regular season. He made the roster over the speedy Greg Golson.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesMonday 9/22, 9:29 PM CT
J.A. Happ didn't earn a victory on Monday, but he still pitched well holding the Braves to two runs over 6.2 innings of work.

Our View: Happ lowered his ERA to 3.90 with the outing after beating the Braves last week for his first major league victory. In two starts against Atlanta, Happ has a 1.42 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 9/17, 10:18 PM CT
J.A. Happ got the start for the Phillies on Wednesday night in the place Kyle Kendrick, and with his outing might have earned himself another start. Happ went six scoreless innings while only giving up three hits in the Phillies' 6-1 win.

Our View: This was Happ's third start of the year. In his first two starts he was not effective, but with his scoreless outing Wednesday night he could get some starts down the road as the Phillies compete for a playoff spot.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 9/16, 5:07 PM CT
J.A. Happ will start Wednesday in place of the ineffective Kyle Kendrick, according to the AP.

Our View: How Happ fares tomorrow will determine whether or not he gets another start. He put up great numbers at Triple-A this year but hasn't been that effective with the Phillies.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesFriday 8/8, 6:23 PM CT
J.A. Happ was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday to make room on the squad for newly acquired Scott Eyre, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Happ made only one appearance since being recalled on July 29th, and over 13 innings this season he just hasn't offered much at all. He is a fantasy non-factor.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 7/30, 12:48 PM CT
Manager Charlie Manuel noted that he views J.A. Happ as a starter, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Happ is currently being used in the bullpen, but Manuel left open the possibility that the arrangement would be short-lived. When asked if there was a chance Happ would be given another shot in the rotation, Manuel answered, "Without a doubt there's a chance, yes. We liked what Happ showed us."

Our View: The club did not indicate who would be dropped from the rotation for Happ. Also of note, the team is believed to be interested in reliever Ron Mahay of the Royals, who would be the replacement for Happ if promoted to the rotation.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesTuesday 7/29, 12:28 PM CT
The Phillies recalled J.A. Happ from Triple-A Lehigh Valley Tuesday to replace Adam Eaton on the roster. Happ will fill a long relief role.

Our View: Happ's stay could be a short one if Ron Mahay is acquired, which has been the rumor.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 7/17, 11:49 PM CT
MLB.com reports that J.A. Happ struck out 12 hitters in seven innings on Thursday for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Our View: Happ just got back to the minors after some solid work for the Phillies. Unfortunately, his big league club just acquired another starter, Joe Blanton, so he may not get another chance in the majors anytime soon.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 7/10, 1:11 PM CT
Pitcher J.A. Happ was demoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley one day after throwing 6.1 innings and allowing two earned runs against the Cardinals, according to Phillies.com.

Our View: Happ had pitched well in his two starts this season, and the demotion is likely temporary until the Phillies need a fifth starter once again. If he continues to throw well, he could be an option for fantasy players.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 7/9, 10:24 PM CT
Philadelphia LHP J.A. Happ put forth a strong effort on the mound this evening but left with no decision despite his team's 4-2 win over St. Louis. Happ pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: This was an impressive outing in just his second start of the season. He's allowed just two earned runs in both, though the Phillies hope he can get the walks under control.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesSunday 7/6, 7:59 AM CT
Phillies' skipper Charlie Manuel noted that he hasn't decided whether or not to bring back J.A. Happ for another start in the rotation, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He said, "I haven't thought about it at all yet."

Our View: Happ was nothing special in his first start (in place of the demoted Brett Myers), as he allowed two earned runs on three hits over 4.2 innings against the Mets, with four walks. If Happ is handed another start, he will only merit consideration in larger NL-only leagues.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 7/3, 4:54 PM CT
The Philadelphia Phillies will recall J.A Happ on Friday, this according to The News Tribune. Happ will start Friday against the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park in place of the demoted Brett Myers.

Our View: Myers was sent down to triple-A Lehigh Valley after recent struggles. Happ was ultimately the choice over bullpen fodder Chad Durbin.
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesWednesday 4/23, 11:42 PM CT
J.A. Happ allowed one run on four hits in seven innings and struck out eight to lower his ERA to 4.44 for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

Our View: Happ has seen better days as a prospect, but he could still be a fill-in for the Phils at some point this season. The southpaw’s solid strikeout rate (32 strikeouts in 26.1 innings) speaks well for his ability to miss bats. If he could only lower his walk rate….
J.A. Happ, P, Philadelphia PhilliesThursday 6/28, 11:43 AM CT
J.A Happ will make his major league debut on Saturday against the Mets, the Philadelphia Inquirer notes. Happ, 24, was 1-2 with a 4.02 ERA and 67 strikeouts over 62.2 innings at Triple-A Ottawa this year.
