Our View: Smith had loose bodies removed from his knee. The reliever is expected to be ready to participate at the start of spring training.

MLB.com is reporting that Indians' reliever Joe Smith has been shut down for the season due to his knee injury. Smith was hoping to be activated on Monday, but he is unable to field his position because of his injured knee.

Our View: Smith said he can pitch, but he is unable to move enough after throwing the ball to warrant consideration. He has had an injury-plagued 2009 campaign, but he showed flashes of dominance when he was able to get on the mound.

Joe Smith has been activated from the 15-day DL following his recovery from a sprained left knee, according to TSN.

Our View: Smith has a 3.44 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 34 innings of relief this season. He only holds value in fantasy leagues that feature middle men.

Joe Smith, who is recovering from a sprained left knee, threw 25 pitches during a pen session today, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Smith is hopeful of returning to the Indians' bullpen by the end of the week. He carries a 3.44 ERA over 34 innings of relief this season.

In what appears to be a setback, the Cleveland Indians have placed pitcher Joe Smith of the 15-day DL with a sprained left knee, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. This is Smith's second trip to the DL this season.

Our View: Smith was hoping to return to the team after a few bullpen sessions, but this move would lead you to believe that the injury is more serious than originally thought. He would like to make it back before the end of the season, but his return is very much in doubt after this move.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansSunday 9/13, 9:30 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Indians' pitcher Joe Smith did what he called a "dry run" from the mound on Friday. Smith went through his pitching motion from the mound, but he did not have a ball or throw any pitches. Smith is expected to actually pitch off a mound on Monday.

Our View: Smith said he was pretty sore after his dry run, so he will probably need several bullpen sessions before he is ready to pitch in a game. He should be back before the end of the season.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 9/12, 11:01 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Indians' reliever Joe Smith continues to play catch after tweaking his left knee. There has been no timetable set for a return to the mound for Smith.

Our View: The Tribe isn't going anywhere this season, but they would still like to see Smith throw again this year. He isn't even able to pitch off a mound yet, so a return doesn't look imminent.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 6/9, 2:58 PM CT
The Indians have promoted reliever Joe Smith from Triple-A Columbus according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: Smith has a 7.11 ERA in eight major league appearances this season, but the Indians need all the pitching help they can get. Smith had a career ERA of 3.51 before this season, so it is likely he will bring that unsightly 7.11 down anyways. He is still of no fantasy value, however.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 5/27, 7:04 PM CT
MLBlogs.com is reporting that Indians' reliever Joe Smith threw live batting practice on Wednesday and that he is expected to begin a rehab assignment later this week. Smith has been on the DL since early May with a strained right rotator cuff.

Our View: The Indians could use some help in their bullpen, and it looks like Smith will be back with the Indians before long. He wasn't great before his injury, and he has no fantasy value until he proves he can be a consistent bullpen option. Even then, his value will be low.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansSaturday 5/2, 9:53 AM CT
The Indians have placed reliever Joe Smith on the 15-day DL due to a strained right rotator cuff. The injury is not believed to be serious, according to MLB.com.

Our View: With relievers like Vinnie Chulk and Tony Sipp throwing well, the Indians can afford to lose Smith for two weeks and allow him to work out his kinks.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 12/10, 10:45 PM CT
Mets reliever Joe Smith was dealt to Cleveland in a 12-player deal that brought J.J. Putz from Seattle to New York, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Smith appeared in 82 games last season out of the bullpen and finished with a 6-3 record and a 3.55 ERA.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansThursday 9/25, 10:59 PM CT
Joe Smith picked up the win by allowing just one baserunner in the ninth inning as the Mets came back to beat the Cubs 7-6.

Our View: Smith is about the only constant in the Mets bullpen right now. In September, he is 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansSunday 7/6, 9:12 PM CT
Joe Smith picked up his second win of the year on Sunday by throwing 2.1 innings starting in the 10th. He gave up just one hit.

Our View: The Mets have been looking for consistent relif pitching all season and Joe Smith may get the nod more often after this pressure packed performance on the road against a division rival. His ERA is now 3.22.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 5/13, 8:26 AM CT
Joe Smith is to be sent down on Wednesday, according to MetsBlog. The team is making room on the roster for either Adam Bostick or Willie Collazo. One of them will start in the rotation on Wednesday, and only for one start.

Our View: The team is said to call Smith back up as soon as Wednesday's aforementioned starter is no longer needed. Smith has been pitching well, as he held a 1.06 WHIP over 16 innings, with 16 strikeouts.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansTuesday 2/26, 10:20 AM CT
Joe Smith, who held a 3.45 ERA and 9.14 K/9 rate in 54 games with the Mets last year, is considered a longshot to leave camp with a spot in the bullpen. The right-hander was knocked around in an intrasquad scrimmage Monday. "I felt good, but all that could go bad for me went bad," Smith said in the NY Post. "I wasn't too comfortable with my slider. It was a rough one." Smith has good strikeout potential and is tough on righties with his sidearm delivery, but with Duaner Sanchez now healthy and Matt Wise added to the mix, he appears to be the odd man out.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansThursday 7/26, 4:11 PM CT
The Mets optioned Joe Smith to Triple-A New Orleans after Thursday's game. He has a 3.03 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings this season. The team has made no immediate move to replace Smith on the roster.
Joe Smith, P, Cleveland IndiansThursday 3/22, 8:23 AM CT
Joe Smith has a serious shot at making the Mets' bullpen when they break camp, according to the New York Daily News. He's held opponents scoreless in six of his seven innings pitched this spring, giving up two earned runs Saturday.
