Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsTuesday 3/16, 10:37 AM CT
Cameron Maybin (groin) should be back in action tomorrow, according to the Palm Beach Post's Joe Capozzi.

Our View: Maybin tweaked his groin last week but appears to be nearly over the ailment. Maybin has yet to prove much in the big leagues but is still young and has potential to break out.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsMonday 3/15, 10:38 AM CT
Cameron Maybin, who's been out since tweaking his groin last week, will test his legs by running bases tomorrow, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Manager Fredi Gonzalez seemed encouraged about Maybin's outlook and chance to open the season healthy. Continue to monitor his progress, but for now it looks like he'll be good to go and makes for an intriguing late-round pickup.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsMonday 3/8, 11:01 AM CT
Cameron Maybin feels better than he thought he would this morning, a day after tweaking his groin while running the bases, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.

Our View: Maybin will likely be out of action the next few days, but it looks like this issue will be in the rearview mirror once the season begins. Fantasy owners can breathe a sigh of relief.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSunday 3/7, 3:55 PM CT
Cameron Maybin went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run on Sunday but had to be removed from the game after grabbing his leg while running the bases.

Our View: A leg injury would be quite harmful to Maybin's value, as much of that value comes in his speed, though for now the injury does not appear to be serious. Check back in over the next few days when we should know more.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 11/6, 5:48 PM CT
Cameron Maybin will undergo surgery Monday to repair a partially-torn left labrum, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Our View: Maybin experienced pain during the season, but it was not severe enough to force him out of the lineup. He is expected to be recovered in time for spring training.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsThursday 8/6, 10:19 AM CT
According to the Miami Herald, Cameron Maybin has sat out his last four games in Triple-A New Orleans with a sore back.

Our View: Maybin doesn't seem to be DL bound and is currently considered day-to-day. The highly touted prospect should be back in the lineup soon and will likely return to the big club when the rosters expand in September.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsMonday 6/8, 3:16 PM CT
Cameron Maybin dislocated his pinky finger while playing in a Triple-A game in Memphis yesterday according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Our View: Maybin was sent to Triple-A New Orleans on May 10 and has hit .277 with one home run since the demotion. The injury will likely set back any potential return to the major leagues by at least a few weeks. If he does return, he could be worth a look in deeper leagues if he gets playing time.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSunday 5/10, 7:42 PM CT
The Palm Beach Post reports that Cameron Maybin was sent to Triple-A after Sunday's game. He had been benched for the weekend series in Colorado. John Koronka could be called up to start Tuesday's game.

Our View: Maybin is hitting just .202 through his first 23 games and he had lost his starting job. The 22-year-old needs to be getting at bats, and he's not doing that in the majors. We expect him to get the call back to the Marlins at some point later in the season.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSunday 5/10, 12:44 PM CT
The Miami Herald is reporting that Cameron Maybin will be on the bench for the third straight game, as Chris Coghlan is starting in the outfield on Sunday.

Our View: Maybin has struggled mightily so far in 2009, and the preseason front-runner for National League Rookie of the Year looks far from it so far. If Coghlan starts out hot, Maybin may be spending even more time on the bench, so Maybin owners need to monitor this situation.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 5/8, 7:09 PM CT
According to the Palm Beach Post, the Marlins' recent call-up of prospect Chris Coghlan will cut into Cameron Maybin's playing time.

Our View: Coghlan, an infield prospect, will move to left field after Friday's game and will cost Maybin some games in the outfield. He hasn't lost his job as the starting center fielder yet, but the team seems to be losing faith in him quickly. His .202 batting average isn't helping matters any and if Coghlan makes a big splash Maybin could find himself out of a job.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsTuesday 4/21, 9:01 PM CT
Cameron Maybin hit his first home run of the season in the Marlins 3-2 loss to the Pirates on Tuesday. He finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, run scored, a walk, and a strikeout.

Our View: Maybin has struggled with the bat early on in the season, but he should come around. He has power potential, but he's more likely to end up with 10 home runs than 20 this season.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsThursday 3/26, 3:28 PM CT
Cameron Maybin went 2-for-3 in Florida's 11-6 win over the Orioles, hitting a double and also walking once.

Our View: Maybin's average stands at .333 through 51 at-bats over the spring. There's is no reason to think there will be anyone else in center field on opening day than this potentially dynamic offensive force.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSunday 3/22, 3:45 PM CT
Cameron Maybin was 1-for-4 against the his former team, the Tigers, on Sunday. He was also caught attempting to steal a base.

Our View: The young Maybin has been incredibly impressive this spring and should be the starting centerfielder come opening day. Word is he'll also bat leadoff for the Marlins as well.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 3/13, 2:42 PM CT
Cameron Maybin continued to look good against Atlanta on Friday, going 3-for-3 with a run and his first stolen base of spring.

Our View: Florida's uber-prospect is now 12-for-29 this spring (.414) with a home run and a stolen base. As long as he can avoid a big slump from now until the start of the season, it looks like he'll have a starting gig locked up to open the season. He turns just 22 in April and will certainly experience his ups and downs this year but also has a phenomenal skill set to provide for a super-high ceiling.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 3/6, 3:31 PM CT
Cameron Maybin went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Red Sox in the Grapefruit League.

Our View: That marks his first homer of the spring. Maybin is one of the top outfield prospects in the game who should be able to help in the stolen base category right away, even if his batting average is a bit slow to come around.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsThursday 3/5, 3:22 PM CT
Cameron Maybin doubled and scored on Thursday against the Orioles and increased his spring average to .357. He also drew a walk in the contest.

Our View: Maybin could be a sleeper this season, but he'll need to cut down on his strikeouts. He's a very talented player in an exciting Marlins' lineup, but may require some seasoning before he truly breaks out. A decent late pick with upside.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsWednesday 2/25, 4:22 PM CT
As expected, center fielder Cameron Maybin hit leadoff for the Marlins in Monday's 5-5 tie with the Cardinals. He was 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Our View: The biggest roadblock that will prohibit Maybin from becoming an electric diference maker is his tendency to whiff. He struck out more than 25 percent of the time at Double-A last season, and it continued in his brief stint in the majors. In 32 major league at-bats last season, he struck out eight times. Then again, he did hit .500. He holds 30-30 potential, but it's unlikely to happen this season.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsTuesday 2/24, 4:52 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Marlins outfielder Cameron Maybin is primed to take over the leadoff spot in the team's lineup. "I have fun hitting leadoff and starting the game off and kind of being a table setter," Maybin said. "I look forward to the challenge. We have a lot of big boppers behind me."

Our View: Hanley Ramirez, Florida's leadoff man for the past three seasons, is expected to move to the No. 3 slot.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSaturday 2/14, 3:43 PM CT
Marlins' skipper Fredi Gonzalez noted that he has already picked a leadoff hitter for 2009, but is keeping his name to himself for now, according to the Miami Herald. Gonzalez said, "On the 25th of February, I will let you know." The favorites for the job are Hanley Ramirez and Cameron Maybin.

Our View: He needs to lower his strikeout rate and work on his consistency, but Maybin is a five-tool-player with major upside, and he is worth drafting as an outfield sleeper for NL-only leagues.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsMonday 2/9, 11:10 AM CT
Cameron Maybin will start in center field for the Marlins, as confirmed by MLB.com.

Our View: He needs to lower his strikeout rate and work on his consistency, but Maybin is a five-tool-player with major upside, and he is worth drafting as a sleeper for NL-only leagues.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsThursday 11/6, 1:51 PM CT
The Miami Herald reports Cameron Maybin is likely to start with the Marlins in 2009. GM Mike Hill said, "I think everyone saw in September what he is capable of doing, and the excitement and the talent he brings to the ballpark every day. That's what we traded for."

Our View: The Marlins gave up Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to acquire Maybin and five others from the Tigers last December. The 21-year-old is considered one of the top prospects in baseball, and could end up hitting high in the Marlins' batting order.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsWednesday 9/24, 9:57 PM CT
Cameron Maybin had another exceptional night at the dish for Florida on Wednesday. The September call up went 3-for-3 with a double, a run and a stolen base in the Marlins 9-4 victory over the Nationals. Maybin came up awkwardly after stealing second base in the sixth and was replaced in center field for the bottom half because of a stiff left hip according to the AP. "You want to be more safe than sorry, but it feels fine," Maybin said.

Our View: Maybin will almost certainly be on the opening day roster in 2009 due to his strong performance thus far. He is hitting .500 in 28 at bats since becoming the starting center fielder.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSunday 9/21, 7:37 PM CT
Cameron Maybin had his first hitless game in five appearances with the Marlins as he went 0-for-5 from the leadoff spot on Sunday.

Our View: Maybin is 10-for-21 with seven runs scored in a blazing start to his career in Florida. Maybin still has a lot of work to do at the plate before he will produce the type of numbers that are expected of him, so don't overhype this kid heading into the '09 season.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 9/19, 9:34 PM CT
Cameron Maybin is proving why he was considered a top prospect after just three games. On Friday, Maybin went 4-for-5 with three runs and a stolen base. His average actually fell to .818 after the stellar effort.

Our View: Maybin is probably on your waiver wire and could be a nice pick up down the stretch for fantasy owners. He is an obvious must-have in keeper leagues.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsMonday 9/15, 1:44 PM CT
Cameron Maybin will be recalled from Double-A Carolina on Tuesday, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Maybin is a top prospect, but still needs some work before he can make an impact in the majors. He is only worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues for the closing weeks of the season.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsWednesday 8/27, 9:33 AM CT
Marlins prospect Cameron Maybin has not played for the team's Double-A affiliate for five days due to being bitten by a spider on his face, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: No word on how long Maybin will remain out, or what kind of spider it was. Hopefully this will not interfere with a potential September call up.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSaturday 7/5, 9:15 AM CT
Outfielder Cameron Maybin has been placed on the minor league disabled list due to a back injury, the Miami Herald reports.

Our View: Maybin, 21, is coming off a solid June, but this injury could obviously set him back. We don't know how serious it is at this point, but it's good news that he has yet to pull out of the Double-A All-Star game.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsTuesday 6/10, 11:40 AM CT
Cameron Maybin continued his recent hot streak and was named Southern League Hitter of the Week. He hit .400 over the stretch with three home runs, three triples, two doubles and nine RBI for Double-A Carolina.

Our View: Maybin has struck out just eight times in his past ten games. This otherwise high strikeout rate is actually an improvement for the former first-round selection.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsThursday 6/5, 8:18 PM CT
Cameron Maybin started this year slowly, but of late the 21 year old future star has been scalding the ball at Double-A, according to MLB.com. Maybin is 9-for-17 with three home runs and seven RBI the past four games, and he has 17 hits in his last 10 starts.

Our View: Maybin still leads the league with 74 srikeouts and he is hitting just .267 overall, but he does have a solid .367 OBP. Maybin still is a long way from reaching his full potential, but if he continues his solid work he will likely find himself on the Marlins roster at some point in the second half.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsMonday 5/26, 11:34 PM CT
Cameron Maybin went 2-for-4 with a home run and two steals for Double-A Carolina on Monday. He now has seven home runs and 12 steals this season.

Our View: We will probably see Maybin in September, but he is not showing any reason that he should be in the majors before that time despite his power and speed numbers. His batting average currently stands at just .249 with 67 strikeouts in 181 at-bats.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsMonday 5/12, 12:06 AM CT
Cameron Maybin hit his fifth home run of the season for Double-A Carolina on Sunday.

Our View: He had been in a slump recently, but is now hitting .242-5-11 with six steals. The 51 strikeouts are just another indicator that he was pushed too quickly by the Tigers late last season, but that hardly sours the 21-year-old’s potential.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 4/4, 3:21 PM CT
The Marlins are being patient with Cameron Maybin. Even if they have more outfield injuries, the club wants Maybin to stick in the minors and gather valuable at-bats, MLB.com reports. There isn't a known timetable for his ascension to the majors, which means the talented prospect mainly has fantasy value only in keeper leagues.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsTuesday 3/25, 8:35 AM CT
Cameron Maybin had a tough day at the plate against Houston on Monday as he went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts, lowering his spring average to .190. This is why he is going to start the season in Double-A.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsMonday 3/24, 5:09 PM CT
Cameron Maybin will start the year in CF in Double-A and not with the Marlins, this according to the Sun Sentinel. "We still see him as the center fielder of the future," president of Larry Beinfest said. "He just needs to refine a few things and needs additional at-bats at the minor league level to work through some of those things, and then hopefully he'll be our center fielder for a long time." This was probably the best choice as Maybin is still extremely raw and could certainly benefit from some time in the minors. Those of you in mixed leagues should consider dropping him immediately, though those of you in NL Only leagues may consider holding on to him if you have space on your roster.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSaturday 3/22, 2:53 PM CT
The Fish have been very clear about how they are handling center fielder Cameron Maybin this spring, very carefully, according to Fox Sports. In all likelihood, Maybin will open the season in the minors, with Cody Ross or Alejandro De Aza starting in center. Skipper Fredi Gonzalez said he might not decide until the final days of camp. Fantasy owners should be patient with Maybin and remember that just because a player starts the season on the farm, doesn't mean they will be there long. Maybin is worth waiting on.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSaturday 3/15, 8:00 AM CT
Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said he expects the competition between Cameron Maybin and Alejandro De Aza for the starting job in center field to go down to the last day of spring training, according to the Miami Herald. "Right now, it's going to be one of those all-night meetings, and maybe into the next morning, to make that decision," Gonzalez said. "We could let that play out all the way down to the last day of spring training." Both are performing well this spring, and a decision may come down to whether the Marlins want to give the 20-year-old Maybin some seasoning in the minors early on.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsThursday 3/13, 9:16 PM CT
Cameron Maybin hit a two-run homer in his only at-bat on Thursday. He has now hit three home runs and knocked in eight RBI this spring. He has a shot to start in the Marlins' outfield, but the team may like to bring him along slowly.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsWednesday 3/12, 5:43 PM CT
Cameron Maybin had a pair of homers - a solo and a three-run shot - in Wednesday's 13-7 win over St. Louis. The youngster was dealing with a strained hamstring earlier this spring but appears to be over the ailment now. He is battling for the starting job in center, but the Marlins don't have any reason to rush the 20-year-old.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsThursday 3/6, 3:09 PM CT
Cameron Maybin returned to the lineup for the Fish on Thursday after missing the last week with a hamstring pull. The Florida outfielder, who is expected to impress this year, singled and stole a base. He was 1-for-2 on the day and is hitting .273 this spring.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsTuesday 3/4, 3:34 PM CT
Cameron Maybin did some light jogging Monday for the first time since tweaking his left hamstring last Friday, according to MLB.com. "It feels good," Maybin said. "It's a lot better than two or three days ago." The 20-year-old is competing with Cody Ross and Alejandro De Aza for the center field job.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSaturday 3/1, 1:42 PM CT
Cameron Maybin said his tight right hamstring felt better Saturday morning and that he should be back in the mix within a couple of days, according to MLB.com. "It feels better than yesterday," he said Saturday morning. "I'm getting a little stretching in. I will still participate in BP and throwing, just no running." Maybin was pulled from Friday's game due to the ailment, but it appears it shouldn't slow him down much in his attempt to lock down the starting role in center field.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 2/29, 7:50 PM CT
Cameron Maybin had to leave Friday's game in the ninth inning with a tight right hamstring. “We don’t know if it’s a pull or a cramp, so we just took him out of the game,” manager Fredi Gonzalez said in the AP. “It didn’t pop, so that’s a good sign.” The Marlins will likely keep Maybin out for a few games just to be safe, but this doesn't sound serious. That said, any missed time decreases the chances of Maybin winning the opening day job in center.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsWednesday 2/27, 2:51 PM CT
Cameron Maybin thinks he's ready for the big leagues right now. “I feel like I’m definitely ready to take on the big-league challenge and big-league grind and playing every day at the big-league level,” Maybin said in the AP. “I’m confident in my ability.” The Marlins aren't in any hurry with their phenom outfielder, though. “We’re in no rush,” GM Mike Hill said. “If he’s not ready, we’ll wait until he is ready. He’ll dictate to us." Maybin, who will turn 21 in April, is the favorite to start for the Fish on opening day, though it's certainly possible he could begin the year at Triple-A.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsThursday 11/1, 11:07 AM CT
Cameron Maybin hasn't played in the Arizona Fall League in more than a week due to a slight left shoulder strain, and it's unclear if he'll be able to return at all, according to the Detroit Free Press. On the bright side, an MRI exam on the shoulder revealed he doesn't need surgery, so this doesn't appear to be that serious of an issue.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsWednesday 10/24, 10:26 AM CT
Cameron Maybin is expected to miss one week of Arizona Fall League games due to a slight left shoulder strain, according to the Detroit Free Press. He suffered the injury while swinging a bat on Monday. At this point, it appears as though the Tigers are just taking the cautious approach with the youngster, so this shouldn't be a problem heading into next year.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsWednesday 8/29, 10:31 AM CT
Manager Jim Leyland plans to start Cameron Maybin in center some against left-handers when Curtis Granderson doesn't start. Maybin has made all six of his starts for the Tigers in left and has played only a few innings in center, his natural position. This could mean that eventually Maybin will be the team's center fielder and Granderson the left fielder, but Leyland made it clear that he won't be making that move on a permanent basis yet. "I'm not going to make Maybin the center fielder and move Granderson to left, because it's not the time for it now," the manager said in the Detroit Free Press.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsSaturday 8/18, 12:22 AM CT
Cameron Maybin had a forgettable debut in the majors Friday, going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. Maybin also had a spotty night in left field, for what it's worth.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 8/17, 12:45 PM CT
In a surprise move, the Tigers called up Cameron Maybin to the big leagues on Friday, according to the AP. Maybin, who had just been promoted to Double-A on August 10, batted a combined .316 with 14 homers, 53 RBI and 25 steals between Rookie ball and High- and Double-A. He played primarily center field in the minors, but he could see time in left with Detroit.
Cameron Maybin, CF, Florida MarlinsFriday 8/10, 9:07 AM CT
The Tigers have promoted top prospect Cameron Maybin to Double-A. "We've talked about Maybin moving up to Double-A this year, and we feel that he has progressed enough that the timing is right," general manager Dave Dombrowski told the Detroit Free Press. Maybin, considered one of the top outfield prospects in baseball, hit .304 with 10 homers and 44 RBI at Class A before his promotion.
