Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 3/12, 7:22 PM CT
Ian Stewart went 2-for-2 with a single and a double in Friday's 9-2 loss to the Giants in the Cactus League.

Our View: Stewart broke out with 25 homers and 70 RBI over 425 at-bats in 2009, and should continue to improve in 2010. He looks to be a good pick among fantasy third basemen.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 3/5, 8:12 PM CT
Ian Stewart went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's 7-5 win over the Angels in exhibition action. He hit a single, double and a triple.

Our View: Stewart won't be pushed for the No. 1 role at third base by veteran Melvin Mora, but Mora could see more at-bats against left-handed pitching. He still looks to be a very solid pick for fantasy drafts.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 9/12, 8:45 PM CT
Ian Stewart (back) is back in the Rockies' starting lineup on Saturday night, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: He's at third base and batting sixth.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 9/8, 8:00 PM CT
Ian Stewart was scratched from the team's game against the Reds on Tuesday with a sore lower back, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: The injury is not considered serious, and he will likely be back in the team's lineup at third base sometime later this week.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 9/7, 6:09 PM CT
Ian Stewart went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Carlos Fisher in Monday's 4-3 win over the Reds at Coors Field.

Our View: Stewart hit a homer in four of six games in August, and has 23 for 2009. He should remain a solid source for power if fantasy owners can deal with his .235 batting average.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 9/1, 6:27 PM CT
The Denver Post reports that Ian Stewart is not in Tuesday's lineup due to a family matter.

Our View: Stewart left the team to be with his wife, who just went into labor with the couple's first child. No word on how many games he'll miss, but it shouldn't be more than a couple.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 8/22, 11:46 PM CT
Ian Stewart led the Rockies to a 14-11 win over the Giants on Saturday. Stewart went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and four RBI in the game.

Our View: Stewart has been awful this month, but he showed the upside that everyone in Colorado has seen all year tonight. He has been inconsistent this season, but when he is on he can be a huge fantasy performer.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 8/20, 9:37 PM CT
On an otherwise good night for the Rockies, Ian Stewart put on the golden sombrero, striking out four times in the Rox 4-1 win in Washington D.C.

Our View: Stewart is in the the throws of a dreadful August, as he has driven in just six runs, while striking out 18 times.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 8/1, 9:20 PM CT
Ian Stewart went 1-for-4 with a single and two RBI in tonight's 6-2 win at Cincinnati.

Our View: Stewart was in need of a solid outing, as he was hitless over his previous three games (eight at-bats). He snapped a five-game drought without any RBI as well.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 7/19, 7:32 PM CT
Ian Stewart returned to the Rockies' lineup with a bang on Sunday as he led the team to a 6-1 win over the Padres. Stewart went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI in the win.

Our View: Stewart may be hitting only .225 this season, but he has 17 homers and 47 RBI. As an infielder, 17 homers is a very good number, and anyone looking for some power help on your infield should give him a look if he is available. His average should improve some as the season goes on, but he is in the lineup for his power, not his batting average.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 7/18, 11:44 PM CT
Ian Stewart was scratched from Saturday's game at San Diego while nursing a tight hamstring, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Stewart is not concerned with the ailment, but the Rockies decided to scratch him from the lineup in the best interest of the team. He could return to action as early as Sunday.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 7/18, 12:44 AM CT
Ian Stewart drove in two runs on Friday as the Rockies beat the Padres by a score of 5-3. Stewart went 1-for-3 with a double and the two runs batted in.

Our View: Stewart has put together some nice power numbers this season with 16 home runs, but he is still hitting only .220 on the year. If you need power, he could be a nice pickup, but don't expect a great average.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 7/9, 11:03 PM CT
Ian Stewart went 1-for-1 with a two-run homer off Tommy Hanson in tonight's 7-6 win over the Braves at Coors Field. He also drew three walks and scored three runs.

Our View: Stewart hit his second homer of July, and continues to lead the Rockies with 16. He should remain a solid source for power, if fantasy owners can handle his .223 batting average.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 6/20, 11:36 PM CT
Ian Stewart had a big night on Saturday as the Rockies came back to beat the Pirates 9-7. Stewart went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI.

Our View: After struggling mightily early in the season, Stewart is really starting to take off. Stewart now has 13 homers on the season, an he is starting to produce on a daily basis. If he is available in your league, he may be worth a look if you need some infield help.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 6/11, 5:19 PM CT
Ian Stewart continued his assault on NL Central pitching on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and a home run in the Rockies 5-4 victory over Milwaukee.

Our View: After slumping in the first two games of the Brewers series after killing the Cardinals last weekend, Stewart showed on Thursday that he is in no danger of entering another prolonged slump like the one that dogged him for most of May. He could be worth a flier in deeper mixed leagues and a roster spot in NL only leagues.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 6/8, 4:16 PM CT
After going 12 for his last 22, with four home runs and 12 RBIs, Ian Stewart went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts on Monday, but the Rockies still beat the Cardinals 5-2 to complete a four game sweep at Busch Stadium.

Our View: Stewart has been a menace of late, raising his average from just .180 on June 1 to .229. He could be worth an add until his hot streak ends if you are struggling for offense.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 6/6, 10:52 PM CT
Ian Stewart had a massive night in St. Louis on Saturday in the Rockies' 10-1 win over the Cardinals. Stewart went 3-for-4 with two homers, a double, three runs scored, and five RBI.

Our View: Stewart is starting to heat up, and he is quickly becoming a solid fantasy option. He had a terrible May, but if he keeps hitting like this he should garner some heavy fantasy consideration going forward. Keep tabs on Stewart for the next few weeks, and if he keeps it up he could be a nice addition.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 6/5, 10:55 PM CT
Ian Stewart led the Rockies' offensive charge in Friday's 11-4 win at St. Louis, as he went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. He hit a double and a three-run homer.

Our View: Stewart has seven hits over his last three games, with two homers and seven RBI over the span. He is finally hitting well after struggling with an anemic .141 batting average in May.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 6/3, 11:00 PM CT
Ian Stewart went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored as the Rockies fell 6-4 on Wednesday. He struck out in both of his other two at bats.

Our View: Stewart's last hit came on May 24, and tonight's performance shot his average up to .188. He is still not seeing regular playing time and is not worth owning in fantasy leagues.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 5/12, 11:43 PM CT
Ian Stewart homered twice in Colorado's 12-1 rout of the Astros on Tuesday. He circled the bases on a solo shot in the fourth and a grand slam in the fifth.

Our View: The Rockies' prospect now has six homers and 18 RBI, but is hitting just .211 on the season. He'll be a solid player down the road, but isn't quite far enough along to be played in mixed leagues just yet.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 5/7, 5:37 PM CT
Ian Stewart hit is fourth home run of the season on Thursday, going 1-for-3 with the homer and two RBI. Stewart is hitting .224 on the year.

Our View: After a hot start, Stewart has cooled down considerably over the last few weeks. He is still getting in the lineup quite a bit, and his versatility makes him a fantasy option. He will have to start hitting again before his value is truly solidified.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 4/21, 12:00 AM CT
Ian Stewart went 1-for-4 with his third home run of the season against Arizona on Monday.

Our View: Stewart has gotten off to a hot start at the plate. He's already played at both second and third base as well as left and right field and it looks like Colorado is determined to get him at least four or five starts per week, regardless of which position they may come at.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 4/15, 12:31 PM CT
Ian Stewart will start in place of Brad Hawpe in Wednesday's game against the Cubs, the Denver Post reports.

Our View: Stewart has been used at a variety of positions so far this season, and the Rockies will continue to get him in the lineup as much as possible. His offensive capabilities are too good to sit him on a regular basis. He is a decent fantasy option as long as he keeps playing.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 4/8, 6:15 PM CT
Ian Stewart did not start, but he did play both third base and right field after coming into the game as a pinch-hitter on Wednesday. He went 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in the 9-2 win over Arizona.

Our View: Stewart has made an appearance in three games this season, but he's only started one. He is 4-for-6 on the season and he holds a lot of offensive potential. His owners also benefit from the multi-position eligibility that he holds. It appears the Rockies plan to use him one way or another in nearly every game he is available.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 4/1, 10:50 AM CT
MLB.com reports that Ian Stewart has won a backup job coming out of spring training.

Our View: Stewart, who has never been known for his defense, will likely backupp a variety of positions including third base, second base, and outfield. If he does earn a starting job at some point this season, he has enough power to contribute to fantasy leagues. However, his strikeouts remain a big concern.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 3/12, 8:29 PM CT
Ian Stewart came up big against the Angels on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

Our View: Stewart actually could have had a few more RBI, as he left three runners on base, but we'll let it slide tonight. He's looked alright (4-for-13) in spring thus far, though he also has four strikeouts and zero walks. He'll have to really impress the Colorado staff if he wants a chance to start at some spot in the field to open the season.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 3/7, 10:20 AM CT
Ian Stewart will return on Sunday from his strained left biceps, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Stewart is battling for a bench spot. To earn it, he will have to significantly cut down on his strikeout rate. In 266 at bats last season, he had 94 strikeouts.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 3/3, 1:09 PM CT
Ian Stewart is improving in his recovery from a strained right biceps, and he is hopeful of swinging a bat again on Wednesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Stewart is competing to be the Rockies' starting left fielder, but could also see some time in the infield, hence giving fantasy owners some flexibility with their rosters.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 2/27, 1:09 PM CT
Ian Stewart is expected to remain on the shelf until at least Sunday while nursing a strained right biceps, according to the Denver Post. He said, "It stinks because in my position I really need to be out there. But I will take groundballs today and should be swinging a bat again tomorrow."

Our View: He noted that he would be playing if this was the regular season, and it does not look like his ailment merits concern. Stewart is competing to be the Rockies' starting left fielder, but could also see some time in the infield, hence giving fantasy owners some roster flexibility.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 2/26, 1:38 PM CT
Ian Stewart is sitting out today's exhibition game while nursing a strained right biceps, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View: He is day-to-day. Stewart is competing to be the Rockies' starting left fielder, but could also see some time in the infield, hence giving fantasy owners some roster flexibility.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 12/8, 10:41 PM CT
Ian Stewart will play some in left field and second base this spring, as the Rockies want to get his bat in the lineup, as Garrett Atkins may not be traded, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View: Stewart could be the team's everyday left fielder, replacing Matt Holliday, but it's clear they want to get him more than the 266 at-bats he got last year.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 11/16, 10:47 AM CT
According to the Denver Post, GM Dan O'Dowd said the possibility of moving Ian Stewart to left field to replace Matt Holliday is "very viable."

Our View: There are still rumors that the Rockies could move Garrett Atkins, allowing Stewart to stay at third base. It does sound like the Rockies would like Stewart to be a regular next season.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesThursday 8/28, 12:28 PM CT
Ian Stewart's 10-game hitting streak was snapped Wednesday against the Giants, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Our View: He had five multi-hit efforts over the streak, with five doubles, two homers, and 13 RBI. He should remain a strong source of production heading into the final month of the season.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 8/20, 12:46 AM CT
Rockies third baseman Ian Stewart was a top dog at the park in the 8-3 win over the Dodgers, going 2-for-3 with his ninth homer of the season, totaling an amazing five RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Stewart has five hits over the last three games with two homers and eight RBIs.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 8/17, 5:03 PM CT
The Nationals posted more hits but weren't nearly as efficient as the Rockies, falling 7-2, thanks to guys like third baseman Ian Stewart. Stewart went 1-for-2 with two walks and his eighth homer of the season, totaling three RBIs and two runs scored on the day.

Our View: Stewart is hitting just .229 for the month but has hits in eight of his last nine games with four homers and 12 RBIs coming along the way.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 8/16, 9:54 PM CT
Ian Stewart went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs, and two RBI on Saturday night. He has had a slow August but is still hitting .322-4-24-17 in 27 games since the All-Star break.

Our View: Stewart has a very promising bat, and we're glad to see the Rockies giving him regular playing time. We expect some ups and downs this season, but he is building up value for the 2009 rankings.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 8/11, 4:38 PM CT
Ian Stewart was named the NL Rookie of the Month for July after leading NL Rookies with a .432 average and 15 RBI, according to the Miami Herald. Stewart also hit a home run and five doubles leading to a .614 SLG and a .519 OBP.

Our View: Stewart will continue to play on most days with Todd Helton sidelined opening up a spot in the daily lineup, especially when he is hitting like this.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 7/22, 11:01 PM CT
Since being recalled from Triple-A to become the regular third baseman with Todd Helton on the DL, Ian Stewart is 9-for-17 with 10 RBI in four games. He was 3-for-3 with four RBI and a home run on Tuesday.

Our View: Is he turning the corner? In his previous 18 games in the pros, he was irrelevant with a staggering amount of strikeouts. It looks like he's found his swing for now.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 7/20, 7:48 PM CT
Colorado third baseman Ian Stewart contributed a productive bat to the 11-3 win over Pittsburgh today, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles to earn three RBIs and two runs scored for the effort.

Our View: Stewart has done rather well in his first two games since returning from injury, going 3-for-8 (.375) with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 7/19, 7:07 PM CT
Ian Stewart will be the regular third baseman until Todd Helton returns from the DL. Garrett Atkins will slide over the diamond to handle first, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Helton is expected to be out a while longer, and the promising Stewart would be a savvy pick-up for owners hoping to catch lightning in a bottle.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 7/19, 5:02 PM CT
The Rockies recalled Ian Stewart from Triple-A Colorado Springs Saturday. To make room on the roster, Jayson Nix was designated for assignment.

Our View: Stewart should get some time at first while Todd Helton is out and also at second.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 6/14, 9:37 AM CT
In addition to socking two homers on Friday night, Ian Stewart logged his 10th appearance at second base.

Our View: The top prospect has had some mixed reviews with the bat thus far (22 strikeouts, .556 SLG), but the 10 games should make him eligible in the middle infield and the Rockies have every reason to stick with him.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesMonday 6/2, 7:51 PM CT
Ian Stewart is listed as the starter at second base on Monday. It will be his fifth appearance at the position.

Our View: Depending on your fantasy league rules, Stewart may now qualify to be used at the spot. It could end up being a big boost to this prospect's fantasy stock.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 5/27, 5:41 PM CT
With Garrett Atkins back from his neck injury, Ian Stewart is making his first ever start at second base as a professional.

Our View: It's a little strange that the Rox are just throwing Stewart out there at second with no professional experience at the position, but injuries have apparently forced their hand. If Stewart can gain eligibility at the position and continue to get playing time, he would see his fantasy value shoot up.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSaturday 5/24, 2:38 PM CT
Ian Stewart was recalled to the Rockies on Saturday to take the roster spot of injured Clint Barmes, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: No, Stewart wont play shortstop. He will back up Garrett Atkins and Todd Helton at the corners, but being that he has been named PCL player of the week two straight weeks, there is no reason why he shouldn't get the chance to put his hot bat to use. He could also see some work at second base and the outfield, as well.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 5/20, 9:47 AM CT
Ian Stewart was named the Pacific Coast League's hitter of the week for the second week in a row, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Stewart batted .450 last week with three homers and 12 RBI, and in the past two weeks, he has hit .413 with 13 runs, five doubles, two triples, six homers and 21 RBI.

Our View: He is red hot and could make a solid impact in the majors eventually, but will be held back for the time being in Colorado with Garrett Atkins and Todd Helton firmly planted in their starting roles at the corner spots in the infield.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 5/7, 11:26 PM CT
Ian Stewart hit a pair of home runs and drove in six baserunners for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday.

Our View: The former first-round pick is hitting .254-9-29 this season, and he just turned 23 in early April. Stewart may not have a future in Colorado due to Garrett Atkins, but he is still a quality hitting prospect that should get a major league opportunity at some point within the next year.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 3/16, 7:43 PM CT
As he battles to compete with veteran Marcus Giles and Jayson Nix for the job at 2B, Ian Stewart is starting to fall behind the pack and may end up in with the minor league squad in Colorado Springs, according to MLB.com. Hitting just .241 this spring, the Rockies were hoping to see the power Stewart displayed early in his career return. Stewart's efforts to shorten his stroke are paying off in better plate discipline and more contact. "Over the last couple of weeks, I've really felt good, and I'm taking good at-bats," Stewart said. "I'm happy where I'm at." However, making the team out of Spring Training could be difficult. Garrett Atkins is a mainstay at third and a host of middle-infield types playing second, Jeff Baker, Clint Barmes and Omar Quintanilla, play more positions and would be more likely to play in a utility role.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesTuesday 3/11, 6:31 PM CT
Ian Stewart put forth a positive effort today, earning his first extra-base hit of spring training with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth as the Rockies took the wood to the Mariners, 4-1, in Cactus League action today. Stewart is fighting for the starting job at 2B after making the move from third. Thus far, his numbers have been a bit concerning at the plate but today's performance could be a sign of progress.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesFriday 2/29, 8:16 PM CT
Ian Stewart had a hit, one RBI and a run scored in two trips to the plate Friday. That's the good news. The bad news is that Stewart, a career third baseman learning to play second, also made an error in the field. He's sure to make his fair share of mistakes, but if he can show that he's at least adequate defensively, the Rox could give him a shot, as he has considerable offensive potential.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 2/27, 7:16 PM CT
Ian Stewart played four innings at second base on Tuesday in his attempt to make the squad this season. Stewart has taken up the second base position this year in the hopes of finally making the roster after being blocked by Todd Helton and Garrett Atkins the past couple of seasons. Stewart didn't have any balls hit to him in the game, and that is the concern, his glove, not his stick.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesWednesday 9/19, 11:47 AM CT
The Rockies are considering moving prospect Ian Stewart to second base. Stewart took ground balls at the position on Tuesday. "Things will be evaluated at the end of the season," GM Dan O'Dowd said to the Denver Post when asked about Stewart possibly switching positions. Normally a third baseman, Stewart is currently blocked by Garrett Atkins. "If they wanted me to work on it and it gave me a job next year, I would definitely do it," said Stewart, who also has been taking flyballs in the outfield during batting practice. "I will meet with them before the season ends, and we'll see what they have to say." At 6-3 and 215 pounds, Stewart would instantly become the biggest second baseman in baseball.
Ian Stewart, 3B, Colorado RockiesSunday 8/12, 7:10 AM CT
Ian Stewart was recalled from Triple-A Saturday and made his major-league debut against the Cubs. Stewart started at third, with Garrett Atkins sliding to first and Todd Helton (back) getting the day off. Stewart was having a solid year at Triple-A (.304, 15 homers, 65 RBI), but he probably won't play too much for the Rockies unless Helton's back injury is far worse than the team thinks right now.
