Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 and popped his 14th home run of the season to tie Wednesday's game at seven, which the Braves evetually lost 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth.

Our View: The Braves shortstop is now hitting .307 on the season and has been red hot since July 1st. Since the All Star break he has a .329 average with six homers and 20 RBI.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 8/31, 9:16 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in tonight's 5-2 win at Florida. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Escobar raised his batting average to .306, and has multiple hits in three of his last five games. He continues to lead the Braves with 68 runs scored.

Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBI in the Braves' 4-3 win over the Marlins on Saturday.

Our View: Escobar has been dealing with injury issues this month, but he looked pretty healthy tonight. He has 12 homers to go along with his .304 average, and he can be a nice fantasy player as long as he is in the lineup.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 8/1, 2:15 PM CT
Shortstop Yunel Escobar (wrist) is out again on Saturday, and Diory Hernandez is starting in his place.

Our View: This news isn't surprising, but we hope to have a positive update on Escobar soon. He remains day-to-day.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 8/1, 9:33 AM CT
Shortstop Yunel Escobar (wrist) remained out on Friday. The Braves hope he can take batting practice on Saturday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Our View: We're betting that Escobar will be out again on Saturday, even if he is able to swing a bat before the game. Diory Hernandez has been filling in for him.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/30, 10:25 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Yunel Escobar's X-ray on his wrist came back negative, according to Mark Bowman's twitter page. He suffered the injury in the second inning of tonight's game at Florida.

Our View: Escobar is considered day-to-day. Fantasy owners should be pleased that his injury appears to be minor.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/23, 3:50 PM CT
Yunel Escobar's solo home run accounted for the Braves' only tally in their 5-1 loss to the Giants on Thursday. He was 1-for-3 on the day.

Our View: Escobar has now homered in back to back games and has four since July 16th, raising his season total to 11. The red hot shortstop is also hitting a whopping .396 in July and starting to look like the fantasy player pundits have been calling for.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/22, 8:56 PM CT
Yunel Escobar's three run bomb helped send Tim Lincecum home early on Wednesday night, and powered the Braves to a 4-2 victory at home.

Our View: Yunel has been punishing the ball of late, and is now batting .308 on the season. He continues to make blunders in the field and on the basepaths, but is finally starting to live up to his potential as one of the best offensive shortstops in the National League.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/20, 4:14 PM CT
Yunel Escobar has been named the NL Player of the Week, according to MLB.com. He earned the honor by hitting two homers last week, to go along with a .500 batting average (7-for-14) and eight RBI.

Our View: This marks Escobar's first weekly award. He raised his season average to .303, and should remain a solid contributor among fantasy shortstops.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/19, 8:49 PM CT
Yunel Escobar had a huge night for the Braves on Sunday in their 7-1 win over the Mets. Escobar went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a run scored, and four RBI in the victory.

Our View: Escobar isn't usually a guy who has many four RBI games, but he took advantage of a pitching injury to the Mets tonight. Escobar is hitting .303 for the season, and his nine home runs and 52 RBI both represent excellent production from the shortstop position.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 7/16, 9:29 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 1-for-3 with a home run on Thursday as the Braves beat Oliver Perez and the Mets at home 5-3.

Our View: Yunel has only eight home runs on the season, but is batting a healthy .294 and has now driven in 45 runs. He is a solid option at shortstop in every format.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/15, 10:19 AM CT
The Braves are apparently listening to offers for Yunel Escobar again, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: After talk that he had been available for much of the season, the Braves were thought to have cooled on moving their talented young shortstop, but that is apparently not the case. It still seems unlikely, as he is putting up good numbers, and not eligible for arbitration until after 2010, but he has been in and out of manager Bobby Cox's doghouse, so anything is possible. He is a good option at shortstop in every format, whether he's traded or not.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/6, 10:29 AM CT
The Royals apparently "covet" shortstop Yunel Escobar, according to Carroll Rogers the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: He says the Royals couldn't land him for just Mark Teahen, though. Escobar has fallen out of favor with Atlanta despite his immense abilities, and could benefit from a change of scenery.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/30, 7:51 PM CT
Yunel Escobar was held out of tonight's lineup against the Phillies, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Escobar is dealing with a hip injury. Manager Bobby Cox is uncertain of Escobar's status beyond tonight.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 6/25, 10:10 PM CT
Yunel Escobar drove in three runs on Thursday, but the Yankees dispatched the Braves 11-7 in Atlanta.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/22, 7:11 PM CT
Yunel Escobar is out of Monday's lineup against the Cubs while nursing a strained right hip flexor, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Escobar missed six games in May with the same ailment. He is day-to-day, but the Braves are hopeful he will be ready to return Tuesday. Diory Hernandez is covering shortstop in his absence tonight.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 6/21, 4:01 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 3-for-5 with a run scored in the Braves' 6-5 loss to the Red Sox on Sunday. The performance raised his average to .292 on the season.

Our View: Escobar is quietly making strides as a solid fantasy shortstop this season. He had a monster May, hitting .319 with 17 RBI and 47 total bases, and now has eight hits in his last five games.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 6/17, 9:37 PM CT
Yunel Escobar was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored in the Braves 4-3 loss to the Reds.

Our View: This was a good rebound game for Escobar who was benched in the fourth inning after two errors in yesterday's game. The Cuban is hitting .291 with 35 RBI and 36 runs scored on the season.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/15, 8:48 AM CT
Braves manager Bobby Cox benched Yunel Escobar in the fourth inning of Sunday's game against the Orioles after the shortstop made two miscues earlier in the game that lead to four Baltimore runs according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View: Escobar failed to turn a double play in the first inning and failed to execute a rundown in the second. He is batting .293 with six home runs and 33 RBIs in 2009, but his boneheaded defensive play has cost the Braves a number of runs. Cox is sending a not so subtle message with this benching. Hopefully for Escobar's fantasy owners, it doesn't turn into a prolonged one.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesTuesday 6/9, 9:30 PM CT
Yunel Escobar led the Braves offensively in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Pirates at Turner Field, as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI. All three of his hits were singles.

Our View: Escobar has a four-game hitting streak, with eight hits and four RBI over the span. Keep him active in fantasy lineups while he is hot.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/30, 12:03 AM CT
In his return to the lineup Yunel Escobar went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 10-6 win over the Diamondbacks.

Our View: Escobar missed almost a week with a strained hip flexor, but is back in the lineup and he's raking. He has his average up to .297 after struggling early and has five homers and 24 RBI to boot.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/27, 10:39 PM CT
MLB.com, reports that Yunel Escobar was held out of his fifth straight game on Wednesday.

Our View: Escobar is dealing with a strained right hip flexor that has affected his swing and his lateral movement. The Braves thought he might be ready to go tonight, but it appears he's still a few days away. Diory Hernandez will continue to play short in his stead until Escobar is in game shape.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/26, 10:30 AM CT
Yunel Escobar missed his third straight game Monday while recovering from a strained right hip flexor, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 5/25, 7:56 AM CT
Yunel Escobar was held out of Sunday's game while still recovering from a strained right hip, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Escobar missed his second straight start. He should remain held out of fantasy lineups until further notice. Diory Hernandez replaced him at shortstop yesterday.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 5/23, 7:02 PM CT
Yunel Escobar was scratched from Atlanta's lineup on Saturday due to a strained right hip flexor, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. Escobar is being listed as day-to-day.

Our View: Diory Hernandez will fill in at shortstop until Escobar is ready to play. You might want to think about sitting Escobar if you have another option off the bench as you set your lineup for next week, as Escobar may miss a game or two before he returns.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/20, 11:07 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and three RBI in the Braves' 12-4 win over the Rockies. Escobar is hitting .308 on the year.

Our View: Escobar isn't much of a power threat, but he is a solid hitter and a decent middle infield option in NL-only leagues. He may be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues, but there are probably better options out there for the most part.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/5, 10:41 PM CT
Yunel Escobar had three hits and an RBI in five trips to the plate on Tuesday, but the Braves fell regardless to the Mets 4-3.

Our View: Escobar boosted his average to .308 on the season and knocked in his 13th RBI. Not bad numbers, but fantasy owners are still looking for more from the promising young shortstop.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 4/25, 3:23 PM CT
Yunel Escobar had a big day on Saturday as he hit his second home run of the year while also slapping two other hits as he knocked in four runs for the Braves.

Our View: Escobar pushed his average up to .286 with the outing which also included three runs. Perhaps this outing will be the start of a run that will lead to the type of production we were hoping to see from Escobar when the season began.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 4/20, 11:40 PM CT
Yunel Escobar returned to Atlanta's lineup on Monday after missing the past three games with a strained abdominal muscle, going 0-for-4 at the plate.

Our View: While he wasn't able to produce offensively, the good news was that he was able to make it through the game unharmed. He remains a decent option in the middle infield batting at the top of Atlanta's lineup that probably should be owned in all leagues that aren't particularly shallow.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 4/20, 11:00 AM CT
The AP is reporting that Yunel Escobar is expected to be in the Braves' lineup on Monday against the Nationals. Escobar has been out since Thursday, when he left the game with a strained abdominal muscle.

Our View: The Braves were cautious with Escobar, so it looks as if he is truly ready to go. Feel free to put him back in your lineup, as he has been playing well so far this season, hitting .343 with one home run and five RBI.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 4/16, 4:41 PM CT
Yunel Escobar, who left Thursday's game following the fifth inning after straining his abdominal muscle, think he'll be able to play Friday, although manager Bobby Cox expects to be without Escobar's services for three or four games, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: We'll go ahead and consider Escobar day-to-day for now, though it is clearly Cox who will have the final say regarding whether or not Escobar will be in Atlanta's lineup. Escobar has gotten off to a nice start, though it would be advisable to bench him until it's been fully confirmed that he'll play. Expect Omar Infante to fill at shortstop until Escobar returns.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 4/16, 1:10 PM CT
Yunel Escobar left Thursday's game against the Marlins in the sixth inning with a strained abdominal muscle. He was replaced at shortstop by Omar Infante, who had been playing third base. Martin Prado entered the game to take over at the hot corner. Hw will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

Our View: For now, the shortstop is considered day-to-day, but it's unclear if the injury will force him to miss any time.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 4/11, 1:10 AM CT
Yunel Escobar was 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in the Braves' 6-5 win over the helpless Nationals on Friday.

Our View: Escobar is a solid fantasy shortstop in mixed leagues and should generate some decent offense at the top of the Braves' lineup. He didn't really give owners what they were looking for last year, but he still has plenty of time to improve.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/1, 3:23 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored as the Braves leadoff hitter in their 9-3 win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

Our View: Escobar also made his fifth error of the spring, which has to be a concern for Bobby Cox and the Braves. He is not currently in danger of losing his job, but if the lack of defense continues, Omar Infante may be called upon to step in.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 11/15, 4:38 PM CT
Yunel Escobar may be back on the trading block now that the deal for Jake Peavy has fallen through, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Cardinals are looking for a shortstop and would love to acquire Escobar if a deal could be agreed on. It wouldn't be the first time that the Cardinals and Braves have made a major trade, as the Cardinals sent outfielders J.D. Drew and Eli Marrero to the Braves for pitchers Jason Marquis, Adam Wainwright, and Ray King before the 2004 season.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesTuesday 9/23, 8:44 AM CT
Yunel Escobar has missed nine straight starts and stated on Monday that his strained hamstring hadn't improved, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: The Braves only have five games left, so it does not look hopeful that Escobar will return.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesTuesday 9/16, 11:03 PM CT
Yunel Escobar missed his third straight game Tuesday with a strained right hamstring, according to the AP. "We keep saying it's day-to-day, but I think it's a little worse than that," manager Bobby Cox said.

Our View: It sounds like Escobar might play sparingly the rest of the way.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 9/15, 10:57 AM CT
Yunel Escobar sat out Sunday's game with a strained right hamstring, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View: He was limited to pinch-hitting duty. He grounded out in his lone at-bat (against the Mets), hence putting an end to an 11-game hitting streak. He is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 9/11, 9:41 PM CT
Yunel Escobar helped the Braves sweep away the Rockies on Thursday night, when he capped off a five run six inning with a three run home run. The homer was Escobar's 10th of the year. Escobar ended the night with two runs scored to go along with his three hits.

Our View: Escobar extended his hit streak to 10 games tonight and is continuing to raise his average, which is up to .290. Escobar continues to be a good option at short stop.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 9/4, 6:57 PM CT
It turns out that Yunel Escobar won't need much time off after injuring his shoulder on Wednesday night as he showed up on Thursday, took batting practice, and said he was ready to go, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Escobar didn't start on Thursday but he should be back in action by the weekend at the latest. Omar Infante started in his stead on this night.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 9/4, 12:07 PM CT
Yunel Escobar had to leave Wednesday's game after injuring his shoulder, but the malady is not serious, and he could return by the weekend, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 9/3, 1:51 PM CT
Yunel Escobar was forced out of Wednesday's game in the fourth inning due to an apparent left shoulder injury, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: We will update his status when more details are disclosed.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 8/31, 11:58 AM CT
Yunel Escobar did not play on Saturday after hitting into three double plays, as he was simply given a night off to rest, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: Escobar has been a decent player this season, but his fantasy impact has been minimal outside of NL-only leagues.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/23, 9:37 PM CT
Yunel Escobar, in his second game back in the lineup, had two hits and three RBI for the Braves.

Our View: This was the first sign of life we have seen from Esobar's bat in a while as he is hitting just .200 over his last 50 AB to drop his average to .284. Now that he is healthy, it stands to reason that the average could pick up a bit.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesTuesday 7/22, 1:16 PM CT
Yunel Escobar missed his seventh straight start on Monday, but has been penciled back into the lineup Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: He was scratched Monday to give his rotator cuff one more day to rest. Fantasy owners may want to wait until he proves to be effective again before activating him.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/21, 9:08 PM CT
Yunel Escobar is expected to rejoin the Braves lineup on Tuesday, manager Bobby Cox tells the AP.

Our View: We expected Escobar to play on Monday, and we assume Cox opted to give the shortstop one more day to rest his shoulder.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/21, 5:44 PM CT
Yunel Escobar is not listed in the Braves lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins despite being cleared to return. He has not played since July 9 due to inflammation in his left rotator cuff.

Our View: We're digging for more information, as we expected Escobar to be back at shortstop. Brent Lillibridge is currently listed as the starter.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 7/21, 11:33 AM CT
Yunel Escobar has been cleared to play following his battle with an inflamed left rotator cuff, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: He has avoided the DL, and is also slated to return to the Braves' lineup Monday against the Marlins. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 7/19, 8:58 PM CT
Yunel Escobar could be headed to the DL, as he just can't get over his left shoulder injury. The shortstop will be evaluated by team physician Dr. Xavier Duralde on Sunday, at which time the Braves will determine whether they need to place him on the disabled list, according to MLB.com. "He wants to play, and that's great," GM Frank Wren said. "But at the same time, we don't want him to jeopardize the rest of the season by playing a day or two too early."

Our View: We expect Escobar to land on the DL, as the Braves need to clear a roster spot for Rafael Soriano. He would be eligible to return next Friday.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesFriday 7/18, 1:17 PM CT
Yunel Escobar is still being bothered by his inflamed left rotator cuff, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: He is able to take infield practice, but is not able to partake in batting practice due to the ailment. He is unlikely to start when the Braves open a home series against the Nationals on Friday.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/13, 11:35 AM CT
Yunel Escobar will receive an MRI on his injured left shoulder and does not know if he will be ready to play after the All-Star break, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: Escobar has fantasy value in NL-only leagues and deep mixed leagues, so this injury is obviously a concern. We will keep you updated when the results of the MRI are known.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesFriday 7/11, 10:12 PM CT
MLB.com tells us that Yunel Escobar was scratched from Fiday night's lineup after reaggravating his left shoulder.

Our View: Yunel is hitting a meager .212 since returning from the injury and it is now clear that he never fully recovered. The Braves won't make the same mistake twice so another DL stint is quite possible.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/6, 8:39 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 4-for-9 in a 17 inning marathon against the Astros on Sunday. He added two RBI in the test of endurance.

Our View: Prior to the game, Escobar's average was at its lowest point of the season. After Sunday, it is up to .294. Expect his number to climb above .300 and finish the season there.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 7/2, 7:45 PM CT
Yunel Escobar returned to the Braves' lineup on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. He was battling a strained left shoulder, but showed the team enough in batting practice to justify his return.

Our View: Escobar was hitting .296 with six homers, 30 RBI and 44 runs scored over 75 games, and fantasy owners should get the green light to return him to active duty if gets through tonight's game against the Phillies without any issues.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 6/25, 12:13 PM CT
The Associated Press reports that Yunel Escobar jammed his shoulder on Tuesday and will not be in the starting lineup on Wednesday.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 6/21, 12:19 AM CT
Yunel Escobar went 1-for-4 with a run scored on Friday night before being forced out of the game in the ninth inning with a strained hip flexor.

Our View: Esocbar is currently listed as day-to-day as we all are come Saturday. Omar Infante would figure to start on Saturday if Escobar can't go.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 6/15, 9:37 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 2-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's 2-0 shutout loss to the Angels in inter-league play. Escobar accounted for two of the Braves' six hits.

Our View: He raised his average to .303, and that was his third straight multi-hit game, and his seventh in June.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/2, 9:44 PM CT
Yunel Escobar hit a two-run, walk-off homer in the 10th inning to lead the Braves over the Marlins on Monday night. The shortstop also has two singles on the night and finished with a pair of runs and three RBI.

Our View: Escobar had gone 11 games without an extra-base hit and had been in a bit of a funk. That's a nice way to snap out of it. He remains a useful player in all fantasy leagues.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/23, 5:53 PM CT
Yunel Escobar is back in the lineup Friday after missing two games with a leg injury.

Our View: Escobar still has pain but is giving it a go. Don't be afraid to stick him back in your lineup.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 5/22, 7:58 PM CT
Yunel Escobar's limp is gone but he is still experiencing some pain in his right leg. Still, he took batting practice on Thursday and hopes to be able to play on Friday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Escobar was injured when Ryan Church inexplicably went into second base without sliding. Regardless, the Braves miss Escobar's defense as well as hit bat, so they will welcome him back with open arms.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 5/18, 3:31 PM CT
Atlanta lead-off man SS Yunel Escobar got the Braves off on the right foot today and the team followed his lead, taking the 5-2 win over the Oakland A's. Escobar went 3-for-4 at the plate, all singles, to gather two RBIs and one run scored.

Our View: Escobar's batting average had soared to .333 earlier this month, but a steady decline since (now 9-for-42) has brought it back down. We'll see if he can keep it above .300.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 5/8, 4:45 PM CT
Yunel Escobar had two hits and scored three runs for the Braves on Thursday.

Our View: Escobar is hitting .333 and now owns a .325 batting average in 436 career AB marking him as a terrific middle infield option in mixed leagues.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 5/4, 1:00 PM CT

Our View: Escobar was hitting .310 over 87 at-bats with three homers and 11 RBI before getting hurt. He will be a welcome addition back to the Braves, as well as your fantasy teams.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/16, 9:24 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI in the Braves loss to the Marlins on Wednesday.

Our View: Escobar is hitting a spectacular .345 with three HR and 11 RBI in the early going seemingly proving that the success he enjoyed last year with the Braves was legit.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 4/13, 4:39 PM CT
Yunel Escobar keeps on producing. He went 2-for-3 with a run on Sunday and extended his hitting streak to seven games. Escobar owns multiple hits in three of the last four contests.

Our View: If you thought last year's .328 average was a mirage, Escobar may be out to prove you wrong. We have a long, long way to go, but the second-year infielder looks every bit the .300 hitter thus far.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/2, 9:40 PM CT
Yunel Escobar upped his average to .455 with a 2-for-3 outing on Wednesday night. Escobar also had a run scored and three RBI from the number two hole in the Braves lineup. Atlanta is counting on Escobar being able to replace the numbers that Edgar Renteria provided, and Escobar is certainly off to a good start toward accomplishing that goal through the first couple of days of the season.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 3/30, 10:16 PM CT
Yunel Escobar failed to open his new campaign with a bang as he went 0-for-3 in Atlanta's 3-2 loss to Washington on Sunday night. He hit .326 over 319 at-bats last season, and is a sleeper candidate for 2008.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 3/12, 11:36 PM CT
Yunel Escobar had a single in his lone at-bat Wednesday and now has collected a hit in all 11 games this spring. The shortstop is batting .517 with six RBI, though 12 of his 15 hits have been singles. It's pretty clear that Escobar, who batted .326 in 319 at-bats last year, can hit, but how much power he produces will ultimately determine where he falls on the fantasy totem pole.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/8, 8:24 PM CT
Yunel Escobar continues to impress and give the fans of the Atlanta Braves reason to smile, hitting a double and single in three at-bats in Atlanta's 7-4 split-squad loss to the Houston Astros. Escobar has raised his spring average to .545 and has outstanding range and a strong arm in the field. Escobar batted .326 last year as a rookie, getting a chance to play regularly when Edgar Renteria was sidelined in August with a sprained ankle. Now Renteria is sporting a Detroit jersey and Escobar is getting his chance to shine. Thus far, it looks like they made the right move.

Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesThursday 3/6, 7:16 PM CT
Yunel Escobar went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI on Thursday for the Braves. The bigger news might have been the fact that Escobar batted second in the lineup behind Kelly Johnson, the other player he appears to be battling for the leadoff spot in Atlanta.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesFriday 2/22, 7:22 PM CT
Yunel Escobar likely will enter the first week of spring training as the team's leadoff hitter, though he figures to face a battle with Kelly Johnson for the spot, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Escobar hit .351 with a .400 OBP in 151 AB at the top of the Braves lineup last year, so if he can approximate those numbers this year the Braves will be extremely pleased, as would those who roster Escobar.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesWednesday 2/20, 8:18 PM CT
Yunel Escobar packed on a lot of muscle to his frame over the offseason, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The shortstop will be a regular for the first time in his major league career this year, and he's apparently wanting to add a bit more power to his game. Escobar hit .326 in 319 at-bats last year but managed just five longballs. The Cuban was already a legitimate sleeper, and this news only enhances that perception.
Yunel Escobar, SS, Atlanta BravesSunday 9/2, 6:25 AM CT
Yunel Escobar was scratched from Saturday's lineup with a sore elbow, the result of being hit by a pitch in Friday's game. He's considered day-to-day.
