Jarrod Saltalamacchia returned to action Sunday against the Dodgers after being scratched from last Tuesday's game due to shoulder soreness caused by loose scar tissue, according to ESPN Dallas.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersMonday 3/1, 5:47 PM CT

Our View: The young catcher made a throw to second base today, and noted that his arm strength is not an issue. He admitted that he does need to get back into game shape though. Saltalamacchia should work on being more patient at the plate as well, after striking out 97 times in only 283 at-bats in 2009.

Doctors have given Jarrod Saltalamacchia the green light to resume full baseball activities, according to the Star-Telegram. He underwent shoulder surgery in September.

Our View: This is good news, and the young catcher's goal is to be 100 percent healthy by opening day, in a bid to play a full MLB campaign for the first time in his career. He began playing catch from 60 to 90 feet today, and also worked with hitting coach Clint Hurdle. He may not be a full strength at the onset of spring training.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersThursday 12/3, 11:20 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia has left his Dominican winter ball team after just two games after he began to feel discomfort in his surgically repaired shoulder, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Not the best news, but shoulder pain and soreness is not considered uncommon after the type of procedure he had. For now, it should not affect his likely 2010 status as Texas' starting catcher.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 11/29, 12:05 PM CT
The Boston Globe is reporting that Rangers' catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia is heading to the Dominican Republic for two weeks of winter ball. Saltalamacchia will use the time to test out his shoulder before returning home to finish his rehab.

Our View: Saltalamacchia will likely undergo thoracic outlet surgery due to numbness and fatigue in his arm, hands and fingers, and the Rangers plan on limiting him for the remainder of the 2009 campaign. He will work as a backup catcher, and could also see action as a DH and pinch-hitter.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersMonday 8/31, 4:17 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia was forced to exit Sunday's rehab game early due to fatigue and numbness in his right hand, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View: The young catcher will not be coming off the DL Tuesday, and he noted that there is a 50-50 chance he will need surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. Ivan Rodriguez and Taylor Teagarden will continue to handle catching duties in Texas, and the club is still in good shape at the position.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersThursday 8/27, 10:04 AM CT
The Dallas Morning News reports that Jarrod Saltalamacchia (thoracic outlet syndrome) will throw to bases on Friday before embarking on a three-game rehab assignment on Saturday.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 8/14, 8:52 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia exited tonight's battle against Boston with numbness in his right hand, according to Amalie Benjamin's twitter page.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 8/9, 10:19 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (shoulder soreness) is expected to return to the Rangers lineup on Sunday.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 7/12, 1:53 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not in the Rangers' lineup for their Sunday afternoon game against the Mariners. He will be replaced by Taylor Teagarden behind the plate.

Our View: Salty is hitting only .244 with six homers this season, but he still has the potential to be a solid player. At this point, he should only be owned in AL-only leagues, but if he gets hot he could be a nice addition to a mixed league squad.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 6/13, 5:30 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is in Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers after sitting out Friday's game to rest, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: He only has four hits over 24 at-bats so far in June, and hopefully he will benefit from the day off.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersTuesday 5/5, 7:16 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia dropped a grand slam in the top of the tenth to lead the Rangers to an extra inning victory over the Mariners. Saltalamacchia had two hits and the four RBI on the day.

Our View: Th Salty Dog hasn't been great so far in 2009, but his homer tonight was huge. He now has three homers on the season, and could be worth a look in all leagues if he starts showing some power. Don't move on him yet, but watch to see how his numbers progress.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 5/2, 5:02 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been dealing with eye irritation, but he is penciled into tonight's lineup against the White Sox, according to the Star-Telegram.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 5/2, 12:32 PM CT
Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia was not at the park on Friday, and the Rangers aren't sure what's wrong with his eyes. Both of his eyes have been irritated, and he was told to stay home in a dark room on Friday, the Dallas Morning News reports. The team expects him back this weekend.

Our View: Is eye irritation the new torn hip labrum? We can't keep up with all the fashionable injuries, but Salty may want to talk to his old teammate, Brian McCann.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersThursday 4/30, 3:40 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia exited Thursday's game against the A's due to eye irritation, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: He will be examined, and further details regarding his eye were not disclosed.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 4/17, 11:22 PM CT
Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a solo homer on Friday night, but he also struck out three times against the Royals. He has whiffed at least once in every game this season and owns 13 strikeouts through eight games.

Our View: Salty is once again teasing us with his power but also showing why he can't be trusted. He could ultimately swing-and-miss his way out of a job. The potential remains, but he has to start seeing the ball better.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 4/10, 9:27 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who sat out Thursday with an inner ear infection, is expected to return to Texas' lineup as the team's starting catcher on Friday, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The 24-year-old switch-hitting backstop looked great in the first two games of the season, hitting 3-for-7 with a home run, a double and three RBI and, if available, could make for a fine pickup if you're looking to grab a catcher.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersThursday 4/9, 12:03 PM CT
It has been determined that Jarrod Saltalamacchia's lightheadedness was caused by inner ear inflammation, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: He was not supposed to play Thursday, and should be fine to return Friday against Detroit. Taylor Teagarden will start at catcher today against Cleveland.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersWednesday 4/8, 11:37 PM CT
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Jarrod Saltalamacchia left Wednesday's win over the Indians during the eighth inning due to lightheadedness. He finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Our View: Taylor Teagarden replaced him and may fill in for him again tomorrow. It seems unlikely that this is anything serious.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersMonday 4/6, 4:13 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a home run as the Rangers beat Cliff Lee and the Indians 9-1 on Monday.

Our View: Saltalamacchia hit eighth in a powerful Rangers lineup. While Taylor Teagarden will also see some time at the position, Salty will get the majority of at-bats. He has proven to be a streaky hitter in the past, so today's performance may indicate a hot start for the catcher.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersWednesday 3/25, 11:31 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a pair of hits, including a home run, in the Rangers 8-5 win on Wednesday.

Our View: He is the man behind the plate for the Rangers and will get a ton of time this year. If he can prove he can hit at all, he has the potential to be of benefit in AL-only leagues for sure. The Rangers like his offensive potential and if he can show some pop in that tiny ballpark, he may show up on the mixed league radar.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 3/21, 7:34 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia was 2-for-2 with two doubles, a walk and a run scored on Saturday.

Our View: He is slated to be the number one catcher in Texas this season. Always considered a big prospect, he hasn't been able to put it all together yet. This could be his year. He has the job and should put up decent numbers in a potent lineup and hitting in a tiny ballpark.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersTuesday 3/10, 10:12 AM CT
The Dallas Morning News states that Jarrod Saltalamacchia has looked much improved in spring camp and is slated to start 110 games for the Rangers in 2009.

Our View: He is worth drafting as a No. 2 fantasy catcher with upside to climb into the top-10 at the position. He namely needs to cut down on his strikeouts.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersMonday 3/2, 6:55 PM CT
Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia was 2-for-3, including a three-run double, on Monday as the Rangers beat the Indians 8-7.

Our View: Salty should be the opening day starter in Texas and he should be among the Top 10 AL catchers this season. He still strikes out a ton, but a little discipline could go a long way in a lineup as potent as the Rangers.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 2/28, 9:23 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia was sharp for the Rangers on Saturday, going 1-for-2 with two runs and a walk.

Our View: Saltalamacchia is worth looking at for a catcher in later rounds as he should start for Texas in 2009. He hit three home runs with 26 RBI and a .253 average in 198 at-bats in 2008. With the help of Texas' hitter friendly stadium, he could improve on these numbers in the coming season.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersMonday 2/23, 10:16 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is expected to be the Rangers' starting catcher, but GM Jon Daniels noted that Taylor Teagarden will play more than than the average backup, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: Saltalamacchia is worth targeting as a No. 2 fantasy catcher with upside for mixed leagues, while Teagarden is worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 2/13, 12:39 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not as heavy as he would like to be, and wants to add 10 pounds to his current 230-pound frame, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The 23-year-old is expected to open spring training as the Rangers' starting catcher, and is worth drafting as a No. 2 fantasy catcher with upside.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 1/30, 7:40 PM CT
It is unlikely that the Red Sox will continue to pursue Jarrod Saltalamacchia now that they have re-signed catcher Jason Varitek, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: Saltalamacchia is expected to begin spring training at the top of the Rangers' depth chart at catcher. He hit .253 with three home runs and 26 RBI in 198 at-bats last season with the Rangers. He dealt with various injuries in 2008, including a strained right forearm muscle that caused him to miss nearly all of September.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 12/27, 7:49 AM CT
The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox are interested in a number of catching prospects, such as Texas' Jarrod Saltalamacchia, but the Rangers are asking for Clay Buchholz, and Boston will not part with him.

Our View: Texas has a number of young catchers, and though it's only a matter of time before one of them gets moved, they can afford to be a bit choosy when asking for pieces in return.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersWednesday 12/24, 12:27 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is playing winter ball this season and the Red Sox are scouting him, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Saltalamacchia could probably be had through a trade as the Rangers are fairly deep at catcher. Boston is reluctant to bring back Jason Varitek at his $10 million per year asking price.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersTuesday 12/9, 2:37 PM CT
The Sun Sentinel reports that The Marlins and Rangers continue to discuss catchers Max Ramirez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, but for now talks are at a standstill because of the Rangers' high pricetag. They remain most interested in such Marlins starters as Chris Volstad, Ricky Nolasco and Josh Johnson, but the Marlins have shown no inclination to part with any of those vital pieces of their starting rotation.

Our View: If the Marlins get lefty Jonathan Sanchez from the Giants in a rumored deal for corner infielder Jorge Cantu, they might be able to send him to the Rangers for a catcher. Anibal Sanchez is another possible piece the Marlins could send to Texas if they add another starter.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 11/30, 9:17 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been hitting very well with Leones del Escogido in the Dominican League, according to the Boston Globe. He batted .435 with four home runs, two doubles, and eight RBI over his first 23 at-bats.

Our View: His sore elbow seems to be fine as well, as he has been throwing favorably. He remains a potential target for the Red Sox, especially if they don't bring Jason Varitek back.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 11/9, 11:12 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia says he would love to play for the Red Sox, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: The Red Sox were reported to be intrigued by Saltalamacchia, and could be an option for Boston if they don't re-sign Jason Varitek.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 9/14, 7:15 AM CT
The Boston Globe reports the Red Sox are very intrigued by Saltalamacchia's ability. An American League scout compared him to Jason Varitek's ability at a similar age.

Our View: Don't bet on anything happening soon, though the Rangers could decide to move Saltalamacchia eventually if they decide that fellow young catcher Taylor Teagarden is a better answer for their long-term plans at catcher. Saltalamacchia is out for the rest of the 2008 season with an elbow injury.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersTuesday 9/9, 12:29 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia visited James Andrews in Alabama and the doctor confirmed that the catcher did not sustain any ligament damage in his right forearm, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Saltalamacchia will rest the elbow for six weeks and then be re-evaluated. The doctors are optimistic Saltalamacchia will be able to participate in winter ball.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersTuesday 9/2, 4:33 PM CT
The Rangers announced that catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia will miss the rest of the season with a strained right forearm muscle, this according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Salty is headed to see Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion, never a good sign.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersMonday 9/1, 9:00 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia was forced to leave the Rangers game on Monday night with what is being described as a sore right elbow, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Saltalamacchia hurt his arm while trying to throw out a wold be base stealer and will have an MRI on Tuesday. Just recalled Taylor Teagarden was moved behind the plate in his absence.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 7/19, 11:42 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia will probably return on Monday, according to the AP. He is recovering from a groin strain and more recently from the flu.

Our View: Taylor Teagarden will likely be sent down once Salty is ready.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 7/18, 3:15 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia did not work out with the team Thursday at the Metrodome because of the flu, according to the Star-Telegram. The Rangers plan to test his injured groin today to determine if he will need time on the DL.

Our View: If he lands on the shelf, fantasy owners won't be hurt, as he only has three homers over 146 at-bats, with a dismal .219 average.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersTuesday 7/8, 11:17 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia started for the first time since leaving Saturday's game at Baltimore with a right groin strain.

Our View: Salty has been a disappointment for fantasy owners that hoped to see similar power numbers on pace with his previous seasons. There's no reason he should have only three home runs playing in Texas.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersTuesday 7/8, 9:41 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia did not start on Monday due to a groin ailment, but could return to the lineup today, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: He has registered a hit in five of his last six games, but isn't playing up to expectations in the power department, as he hasn't homered since June 3, which is an 18-game drought.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 7/6, 8:43 AM CT
Skipper Ron Washington commented that Jarrod Saltalamacchia's strained groin ailment isn't serious, and he should be available to play Sunday, according to the Star Telegram. Washington said, "He just tweaked his groin a little bit and we didn’t want to take a chance with him in the box, especially with the torque you’ve got to have to swing the bat. All we needed was for him to take a swing at something and make it worse than what it is."

Our View: Max Ramirez replaced him on Saturday night, and would start Sunday if Saltalamacchia ultimately cannot go.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 7/5, 7:55 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia was removed from the Rangers game on Saturday after a sixth inning at-bat during which he strained his groin, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View: The team is putting on a brave face saying that this is nothing more than a day-to-day type injury, but only time will tell. Max Ramirez figures to start in Jarrod's place on Sunday after entering the game on Saturday night.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersThursday 6/19, 6:34 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who is with the parent club because of his bat, went 0-for-4 in Thursday's win over the Braves. The young catcher's average fell to .226 in 93 at-bats on the season.

Our View: Atlanta stole two bases, giving Texas opponents 23 consecutive thefts when Saltalamacchia is the catcher. Again, Salty needs to hit if he wants to carry his weight.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersThursday 6/12, 8:53 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is nursing a sore right wrist, but is scheduled to start today's game against Kansas City, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: He is only hitting .257, but registered three homers and 14 RBI over 22 games, with 10 runs scored. He should continue to improve this season as he gains more experience at the plate.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersMonday 5/12, 5:35 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia got the start on Sunday behind the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. The Rangers future starting catcher also walked twice showing his patience at the plate.

Our View: The former Brave did not start the season in the minor leagues due to his bat, this part of his game is not in question. It's his defense, which was sub-standard again on Sunday. When Salty is behind the plate, teams run. The station-to-station A's stole five bases on the Rangers catcher, and only one of the thefts could be possibly attributed to the Texas pitching staff. It's more than obvious the "future catcher" is more likely to end up being the "future first baseman or designated hitter."
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 5/3, 8:59 PM CT
Manager Ron Washington commented on his plans at catcher, according to MLB.com. Washington noted that he is planning to alternate Gerald Laird and Jarrod Saltalamacchia two games at a time. Laird will catch Sunday against the Athletics and Monday against the Mariners. Saltalamacchia will catch Tuesday and Wednesday, and then it will be back to Laird. Washington added, "I'm just trying to get them back-to-back at-bats. It was a matter of how I was going to do it. I'm trying to figure out how to get them both the most playing time. We've got two good catchers; I need to get two of them in there. We'll just see how it goes. At some point it will take care of itself."

Our View: Saltalamacchia got the call on Saturday, which was his fourth start in the last eight games. Laird is better defensively, but Saltalamacchia has more upside offensively. As expected, the Rangers will cycle them both in a platoon at the position.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersThursday 5/1, 12:23 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting today at catcher against Zack Greinke and the Royals, according to the Star Telegram. He is batting eighth in the order.

Our View: Start him if you have him today. He is 2-for-7 so far, with one RBI.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSaturday 4/26, 8:35 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia won't be returning to Triple-A anytime soon, according to the Star-Telegram. The team decided to release backup catcher Adam Melhuse, rather than place him on the DL due to his hand ailment. The Rangers haven't etched out a role for Saltalamacchia, but he is expected to cut into the playing time of regular catcher Gerald Laird. Manager Ron Washington noted that he will not spend time at first base.

Our View: Saltalamacchia will serve as the top backup for now, although he has more upside than starter Gerald Laird. Saltalamacchia is still worth stashing on your rosters if you have a spot for him.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 4/25, 7:55 PM CT
The Rangers recalled catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from Triple-A Oklahoma and released catcher Adam Melhuse, this according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Saltalamacchia, who has been in in Oklahoma City since the start of the season, will backup starting catcher Gerald Laird.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 4/25, 9:36 AM CT
As previously speculated, Jarrod Saltalamacchia is in fact joining the Rangers, according to the Star Telegram. He is on his way from Oklahoma City and will join the Rangers for tonight's game against the Twins.

Our View: He will take the spot of the injured Adam Melhuse (as the top backup), who is headed to the DL with his hand injury. Jarrod has far more upside than Gerald Laird, and it shouldn't take long before he cuts into Laird's playing time, and ultimately emerges as the starter, assuming he will stick around and not get sent back down.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersFriday 4/25, 8:47 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia could get called up by the Rangers, according to MLB.com. He could join the team as soon as Friday, after backup catcher Adam Melhuse suffered a bruised right hand in the Rangers' 8-2 loss to the Tigers on Thursday. GM Jon Daniels stated it is a distinct poosibility he will be called up, and added that the team will know more today.

Our View: Fantasy owners may get their wish, and he would be a hot prospect on the waiver wire if he does join the Rangers. He has far more upside than Gerald Laird, meaning he would push him for playing time and potentially unseat Laird at some point as the starter.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersWednesday 3/26, 2:03 PM CT
The Rangers optioned Jarrod Saltalamacchia to Triple-A Oklahoma on Wednesday. The promising backstop will start everyday in the minors, and fantasy owners can only pray that the Rangers will call him up quickly.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersTuesday 3/25, 12:00 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia had a tough day at the plate against the Cubs on Monday as he went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. As previously reported, he could get sent down to the minors.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 3/23, 10:31 AM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia could get sent down to the minors, according to the AP. The team has been trying to deal Gerald Laird, but have not received any solid offers for him. They don't want to merely release him, so that could send Saltalamacchia, their best young prospect, back to the minors.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersThursday 3/20, 10:39 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled his RBI production and homer output in one spring game on Thursday. Salty blasted a three-run home run in the fourth inning of the Rangers 4-3 win. It's still possible that Saltalamacchia could begin the season at Triple-A with Gerald Laird serving as the primary backstop opening day.

We're still relatively early in the spring schedule, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram says that the catcher battle is still tight between Gerald Laird and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The huge worry for fantasy owners is that Salty will lose and end up back in Triple-A. He has the ability to be a top-10 (if not top-5) fantasy catcher, but he obviously needs the job and the at-bats.

Young stud Jarrod Saltalamacchia will compete with Gerald Laird for the starting job behind the plate for the Rangers. "It's open," manager Ron Washington said in the Dallas Morning News. "It's going to be a healthy competition." If Salty doesn't win the everyday job, he's expected to begin the year in the minors, leaving Adam Melhuse to back up Laird.

The Rangers official team website reports that the club has six catchers in camp -- two of which are competing for the starting job. Gerald Laird, who was the Opening Day backstop in 2007, will fight it out with Jarrod Saltalamacchia this spring. Laird is the stronger of the two defensively, while the switch-hitting Saltalamacchia has the better bat -- supposedly. Saltalamacchia is entering his first full season and during his 2007 starts, threw out less than 10 percent of the runners attempting to steal second base.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia will begin splitting the catching duties with Gerald Laird. The original plan was for Laird to start five games a week, with Saltalamacchia getting the other two and playing the other five games at first, but the Rangers have been impressed with Saltalamacchia at catcher and want to see more. "We've got a young catcher we got in a trade and catching him a few games isn't conducive to him growing," manager Ron Washington said in the AP. "It's no knock on Gerald, he's still our guy, but we're at the point of the season where we're evaluating so we want to get a good read on where Salty is."

Jarrod Saltalamacchia made his Rangers debut behind the plate Sunday and impressed manager Ron Washington with his receiving skills, according to the AP. "He was excellent," Washington said. "He made every pitch that was thrown look like it was a strike." Saltalamacchia also snapped an 0-for-18 slump with a single in the seventh and finished the day 2-for-4.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia started at first base and batted seventh in his Rangers' debut Wednesday, going 1-for-5 with two RBI on the night. We expect Saltalamacchia to eventually get most of his time behind the plate, but clearly he'll be getting some time at first, as well.

The Rangers acquired Jarrod Saltalamacchia, minor league shortstop Elvis Andrus, minor league pitcher Matt Harrison, and another, unknown minor league hurler on Monday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Braves received first baseman Mark Teixeira and reliever Ron Mahay in return.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia was in the lineup Tuesday against right-handed pitcher Bronson Arroyo, starting at first base. "I'm glad I'm getting the opportunity to get in there and face some right-handed pitching," he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He had been facing primarily lefties, but with Scott Thorman struggling, he should be more at-bats against right-handers, which is great news for his fantasy value.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia took a foul tip off his shoulder and the left side of his face near the temple while catching last night's game. He was unable to stand at first due to the ensuing wooziness, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was replaced by Brian McCann behind the plate. He said after the game that he was "walking on a cloud" because of lightheadedness, though he insisted he didn't sustain a concussion. Unless his head clears up completely overnight, he'll probably take a seat in the dugout on Saturday.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia left Friday night's game against the Padres after he was hit on the left shoulder by a foul ball by pinch-hitter Hiram Bocachica in the seventh inning, according to the AP. Jarrod Saltalamacchia made his second straight start at first base on Friday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'll give him back-to-back days [in the lineup]." manager Bobby Cox said. With Scott Thorman struggling and no obvious answers in the minors, the Braves may give Salty an extended look at first or take trade offers.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Texas RangersSunday 6/10, 9:18 PM CT
Jarrod Saltalamacchia started Sunday and manager Bobby Cox said Salty will be in the lineup again Tuesday in order to give Brian McCann more time to let a cortisone shot take effect, according to the AP. Heading into Sunday's contest, Salty was hitting .275 with two homers and seven RBI in 51 at-bats this year.

Now that Craig Wilson is out of the picture with the Braves, Jarrod Saltalamacchia will work into the mix at first base, along with Chris Woodward, against left-handed starters. He hasn't played that position since he was in high school. This will at least give Salty the chance to see more action than just backing up Brian McCann, but his value remains limited to deeper NL-only leagues.

Even though, Jarrod Saltalamacchia is blocked behind the plate by Brian McCann and works out at first base, the Braves don't have any immediate plans to move Salty to first, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He does work out at first base on a daily basis," manager Bobby Cox said. "He's such a good catcher, you hate to move him. But we have a good one, too. We're going to keep [Saltalamacchia] where he is right now, and see what happens."

Jarrod Saltalamacchia made his major league debut on Wednesday night and went 0-2 with a walk. He was called up due to injuries to both Brian McCann (finger) and Brayan Pena (head). Saltalamacchia, who turned 22 on Wednesday, was batting .309-6-13-18-2 over 22 games at Double-A.

Braves top prospect Jarrod Saltalamacchia is tearing up Double-A, hitting .377 and leading the Southern League in homers (tied with six), slugging percentage (.754) and on-base plus slugging percentage (1.226). Unfortunately, he's blocked by Brian McCann behind the plate in Atlanta. While that might make him trade bait, the Braves are resisting the urge to move Salty to first base at this point, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. So, for now, he'll continue playing in the minors
