Mike Rabelo has been signed by Detroit to a minor league contract, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View: Rabelo's minor league deal was one of 17 announced by the Tigers today, though Rabelo is one of the few players that could realistically make Detroit's Opening Day roster.

Our View: Rabelo only played 34 games in the big leagues in 2008. He hit three home runs and an average of .202.

Mike Rabelo has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque, according to MLB.com. The team recalled catcher Paul Hoover from Triple-A, as a corresponding move.

Our View: Rabelo only hit .202 over 109 at-bats, and held little fantasy value prior to his demotion.

Mike Rabelo, on the DL with an injured knee, will be able to play in a minor league game on Thursday, this according to MLB.com. Rabelo will catch about five innings and continue to work his way back into game shape with a target date of mid-April for his return to the big league club. Rabelo hit .256 last year with one home run in 168 AB last season, so even when he is healthy he looks like he would be best served being a catcher in NL Only leagues.

The Marlins placed Mike Rabelo on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, on Saturday. The Marlins catcher is nursing a sprained left knee and is expected to miss Week 1 of the MLB schedule. Matt Treanor is slated to open the season as the starting backstop.

The Marlins will place Mike Rabelo on the DL retroactive to March 21. Rabelo, who is dealing with a sprained knee, will be eligible to be activated on April 5, but manager Fredi Gonzalez said he expects Rabelo to need more time than that to recover, according to MLB.com. Matt Treanor will be the starter while Rabelo is out, and Paul Hoover will make the team as the backup.

"I haven't spoken to anybody about [the disabled list], but yeah, that would be a possibility," Rabelo said. "I haven't played in a week. We're going to see how the knee feels and what they want to do." Matt Treanor would get the bulk of the time behind the dish while Rabelo is out.

The switch-hitting catcher is battling Matt Treanor for the starting position. Rebelo had an MRI on his knee and hip, and is has no current timetable for a return to spring action.

The Tigers recalled Mike Rabelo from Triple-A Toledo to replace the injured Vance Wilson on their roster, according to the Detroit Free Press. Rabelo has only one big league at-bat to his name but he'll back up Pudge Rodriguez for now.
