Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 3/14, 8:12 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez was shelled for six earned runs on three hits over two innings in Sunday's 10-8 loss to the Brewers in exhibition action. He issued five walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: This was a polar opposite of Sanchez's previous outing, when he fired three scoreless innings against the Cubs. Expect Sanchez to have more solid starts than terrible ones this season - but he will be hard-pressed to throw another no-hitter, like he did in 2009.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 3/10, 6:10 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez earned his first win this spring with three shutout innings against the Cubs.

Our View: Sanchez allowed three hits, but struck out five and did not walk a man. He's always been able to blow hitters away, but control has long been an issue. Which is what makes Wednesday's start so impressive. If he can harness his stuff and keep the walks to a minimum he is poised for a big time breakout in 2010.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 1/19, 10:16 AM CT
The Giants avoided arbitration with Jonathan Sanchez by agreeing to a one-year, $2.1 million deal, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View: Sanchez got into the national spotlight after a no-hitter right before the All-Star break (it would have been a perfect game had it not been for a Juan Uribe error). He was also pretty solid after the break, posting a 3.83 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 98 strikeouts in 84.2 innings. If he can keep his control under wraps, he has the potential to be an excellent fantasy pitcher.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 10/4, 8:01 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over 5.1 innings on Sunday. He fanned three, but did not earn a decision as the Giants topped the Padres 4-3 in ten innings.

Our View: Sanchez has had an up and down season that included a no hitter and a demotion to the bullpen, to cover both ends of the spectrum. He pitched much better in the second half after rejoining the rotation, but walks have been a problem all year. He gave out 88 free passes in 2009.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 9/24, 8:11 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez picked up his seventh win of the season on Thursday night. The hard-throwing lefty struck out nine in just 5.1 innings, as the Giants beat the Diamondbacks 5-2.

Our View: After entering his July 10th no-hitter with a 5.30 ERA, Sanchez has gone 5-4 with a 3.38 ERA in 14 starts, striking out 102 batters in the process.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/12, 11:23 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez got knocked around by the Dodgers on Saturday night, allowing five runs in 4.1 innings, as San Francisco got pounded 9-1 at home.

Our View: It was the first time since June 16 that Sanchez had failed to make it at least five innings in a start. He is now 6-12 with a 4.16 ERA on the season.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 9/6, 6:05 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez dominated the Brewers on Sunday, striking out nine while allowing just one run in six innings, but took a no-decision, as the Giants eventually lost 2-1 in 12 innings.

Our View: After being removed from the starting rotation and nearly traded earlier this summer, Sanchez now has his ERA down to 4.03, and has struck out 154 batters in just 138.1 innings this season.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/1, 9:35 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez held the Philles to just one run on three hits and three walks over six innings on Tuesday, but was slapped with his 11th loss of the season. He fanned eight, but the Giants fell 1-0.

Our View: Sanchez has now just allowed six earned runs over his last four starts spanning 25 innings. He has come on strong for the Giants down the stretch and is striking out hitters like it's going out of style. He's fanned 32 over those last 25 frames.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/26, 11:49 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez struck out nine Diamondbacks and allowed just three runs in seven innings on Wednesday, but took a no-decision as the Giants rallied late for a 4-3 win.S

Our View: In five August starts, Sanchez is now 2-1 with a 2.90 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/22, 12:00 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez didn't last long on Friday, but pitched well enough for the win. He tossed five innings without giving up n earned run, only allowed two hits and fanned eight Rockies in the 6-3 win.

Our View: The Ks were impressive and it's nice to see Sanchez get a win (6-10), but he walked four over those five frames. Control has always been an issue with him and he'll need to remedy that if he's going to move up to the next level.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/16, 4:03 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez was very good again on Sunday, but he did not factor into the decision as the Giants fell to the Mets by a score of 3-2. Sanchez went seven innings and allowed two runs on four hits while walking four and striking out seven.

Our View: The four walks is a bit higher than you would like to see, but for Sanchez it actually isn't that bad. When he is in control, he is very good, so keep putting him in there and cross your fingers that the good Sanchez shows up each time out.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 8/4, 11:13 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez was outstanding on Tuesday in the Giants' 8-1 win over the Astros. Sanchez went seven scoreless innings and allowed four hits while walking three and striking out eight.

Our View: The enigma that is Jonathan Sanchez continues to baffle fantasy owners. He has always had the stuff to be dominant, but he is the definition of inconsistent. If you can handle the bad outings, Sanchez can produce some great performances for fantasy owners.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/31, 12:10 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez issued two earned runs on three hits over 5.2 innings in tonight's 7-2 win over the Phillies at AT&T Park.

Our View: Sanchez collected his fourth win of the season, and bounced back well from his last outing when he was rocked for five earned runs over five innings at Colorado. Sanchez, who fired a no-hitter against San Diego on July 10, is worth consideration in NL-only leagues for his next trip to the hill.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/26, 12:01 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez looks to be back to his old self. He allowed five runs on five hits and four walks over just five innings. The 8-2 drubbing by the Rockies resulted in his ninth loss of the season.

Our View: Sanchez is now 0-1 with eight earned runs in his last 11 innings since the no hitter. The bright side? He's fanned 13 over that stretch.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 7/20, 9:39 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez gave up three earned runs on four hits over six innings in Monday's 11-3 loss at Atlanta. He had one walk and fired eight strikeouts.

Our View: Sanchez fell back down to Earth while coming off a no-hitter against the Padres. He was dealt a no-decision tonight, and only has one win over his last nine outings.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/10, 11:42 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez threw a no-hitter against the Padres in Friday's 8-0 win at AT&T Park. He had no walks and racked up 11 strikeouts.

Our View: Sanchez snapped a seven-game skid without a win, and also set a new career-high with 11 strikeouts tonight. He was 2-8 heading into tonight's game, and only found his way back into the Giants' rotation due to an injury to Randy Johnson. This marks the first no-hitter in the majors of 2009.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/10, 9:26 AM CT
The Giants would be willing to part with Jonathan Sanchez in a deal for the Pirates Freddy Sanchez, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Sanchez has pitched his way out of the Giants rotation this season, and could benefit from a change of scenery. If the Giants could convince the Pirates he's worth taking a risk on, they would probably unload him in a heartbeat for Freddy, as their offense is still one of the most stagnant in baseball. Should this trade happen, and Jonathan get inserted into the Pirates rotation, he would not be worth an own until he could prove that he has ironed out the issues that have caused his ERA to balloon to 5.30 this season.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 7/7, 8:55 AM CT
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the Giants will move pitcher Jonathan Sanchez back into the starting rotation due to the injury to Randy Johnson. Sanchez is expected to start Friday in Johnson's place.

Our View: Sanchez has been good out of the bullpen, but with Johnson going down the team needed another starter. It seems unlikely that he will be able to put it all together all of a sudden, but the potential is still there for him to be a dominant starting pitcher. He is a very high risk/high reward fantasy option at this point.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/2, 10:13 AM CT
According to the Mercury News, relegated pitcher Jonathan Sanchez will remain in the bullpen until further notice.

Our View: Sanchez was very good in his last relief appearance, striking out all three hitters he faced, but the emergence of Ryan Sadowski will keep him in the pen. Sadowski tossed six shutout innings in his first start and Giants' management felt he deserved another chance. Meaning Sanchez's fantasy value continues to suffer.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/27, 6:50 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez has been relieved of his role as a starter for San Francisco and demoted to the bullpen, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The potential has always been there, but Sanchez has continued to struggle this season, sitting with a 5.54 ERA and having lost four-straight games, dropping to 2-8 on the season. He should get another shot at the No. 5 spot in San Francisco's starting rotation at some point this season, but there's no telling when that would come, nor is there any reason to own him for the time being.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/22, 11:59 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez was rocked for four earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings in Monday's 5-1 loss at Oakland. He had three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Sanchez falls to 2-8 for the season, and wasn't even useful in the strikeouts department tonight. He has taken a loss in four straight starts, and is not fit for fantasy duty right now.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/18, 1:51 PM CT
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Giants' manager Bruce Bochy is considering moving troubled starter Jonathan Sanchez to the bullpen. Sanchez has struggled with his control this season, but he is out of options, so it is unlikely the team would designate him for assignment.

Our View: Sanchez looks to be headed out of the rotation, so fantasy owners who were still holding out hope should probably jump ship at this point. The Giants would prefer to send him down to work on his control in Triple-A, but they don't want to expose him to waivers, as he would likely be claimed by another team.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 6/17, 3:51 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez could have his next turn in the rotation skipped as he continues to struggle, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sanchez was dreadful on Tuesday and appears to need some time to get his head right. Skipping a turn could be beneficial for both him and the team.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 6/17, 12:05 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez got bombed again on Tuesday, giving up six earned runs in 3.2 innings as the Giants lost 8-1 to the Angels.

Our View: The Giants plan of trading Sanchez for hitting continues to go up in smoke as the wild lefty keeps taking bad losses. He has only completed six innings twice this season and is no longer a reliable fantasy option.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/11, 5:51 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez was mediocre for the third straight start on Thursday, walking seven batters in 5.2 innings as the Giants lost 2-1 to Arizona.

Our View: Sanchez now has a 4.84 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 2009. He has gone from being a fringe roster player to a dicey spot starter. He has failed to pitch longer than 6.2 innings all season, and has walked at least three batters in every start but one since April 28.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/6, 10:35 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez wasn't great again on Saturday as he was hit with his fifth loss of the season against the Marlins. Sanchez went 4.2 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Our View: Sanchez kept the walk total down tonight, but he still only made it into the fifth inning. While the potential is there, Sanchez has not shown the ability to put together consecutive good starts. Mixed leaguers should avoid Sanchez until he shows some consistency, but NL-only leaguers should keep him active and in the lineup. The strikeouts are always there, which is the only thing keeping him fantasy relevant.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/31, 9:50 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez has a poor showing against St. Louis on Sunday, giving up three runs off six hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

Our View: Sanchez was able to avoid the loss, though he still gave another reminder to his owners why he cannot be trusted as a fantasy starter. He's still yet to make it through seven innings this season.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 5/25, 6:39 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez picked up his first win since April 17 as the Giants beat the Braves 8-2 on Monday. The left-hander allowed four hits, three walks, and two earned runs, while striking out six in the win.

Our View: There's no question that Sanchez can strike out plenty of hitters, but he continues to issue far too many walks. He has yet to complete the seventh inning this season and has only gone past the sixth once as a result of all the walks. If he can ever master the control of his stuff, he could be a scary source of production.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/19, 7:16 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez warmed up in the bullpen Sunday, but skipper Bruce Bochy does not expect to skip Sanchez's next scheduled turn in the rotation Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Sanchez has fired 32 strikeouts over 32 innings, but issued 25 walks and surrendered 18 earned runs. Perhaps he will benefit from working at pitcher-friendly Petco Park against the Padres Wednesday. He holds a 3.55 ERA over 10 career games (three starts) against San Diego.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 5/15, 1:32 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez was not great again on Thursday as the Giants fell to the Mets 7-4. Sanchez went 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out five.

Our View: He didn't get killed by walks tonight, but he did get hurt pretty bad by the Mets' bats. Sanchez has been wildly inconsisent this season and he is starting to lose fantasy value because of it. The only thing keeping him in mixed leagues is the potential that he has to strike out double digits on any given night. Play him with caution.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 5/9, 6:02 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez got beat up by the rival Dodgers on Saturday. He allowed five runs on six hits and four walks over five innings and struck out four in the Giants' 8-0 loss.

Our View: Walks have been a problem for Sanchez all season. He has no problem consistently striking out hitters and keeping the ball in the yard, but he struggles with his command and it costs him every time. He now has 22 walks on the season and his record fell to 1-3.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 5/4, 10:37 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez struggled with his control on Monday, allowing four runs in four innings while walking six and striking out six. He is now 1-2 on the year.

Our View: Sanchez wasn't sharp on Monday, as evidenced by his six walks in four innings. He could be a very good fantasy pitcher if he could control his stuff, but right now his value is iffy. His strikeout ability is keeping him alive in all leagues, but if he continues to walk hitters that could change.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/29, 1:15 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez allowed just three hits, three walks and zero earned runs over five innings on Tuesday. He struck out five, but did not factor in the decision as the Giants bullpen imploded and they lost 5-3 to the Dodgers.

Our View: Sanchez has struggled with his control this season, but a 2.60 ERA in three starts is nothing to scoff at. He's also striking out almost a batter per inning and looks like this may be the year he puts it all together.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 4/18, 12:11 AM CT
Pitcher Jonathan Sanchez befuddled the Diamondbacks over 6.2 scoreless innings on Friday night. He allowed two hits, walked four, and struck out four. Sanchez improved to 1-1 on the season.

Our View: Not unlike Oliver Perez, Sanchez also confuses and teases fantasy owners. Nights like this remind us of his potential, but he remains too erratic to be used in smaller mixed leagues.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 4/11, 11:51 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez threw 4.2 innings and gave up five runs on four hits and five walks. He struggled mightily with his command and it cost the Giants as they fell to the Padres 6-3.

Our View: Sanchez was rolling along until a bases clearing double chased him in the fifth. Still, he had seven Ks over 4.2 innings, so if you had him in your lineup you at least got one positive out of him.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 4/5, 8:17 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez tossed 4.2 innings of one-run ball on Sunday. He scattered six hits and three walks, and was able to work out of jams with his six strikeouts. He earned the win and finished out spring training with a 2-0 record.

Our View: Looks like Sanchez has put the kitchen incident behind him. He will be the Giants' fifth starter this season and should improve on last year's 5.01 ERA. His strikeout totals are great, but he needs to trim down his walks if he wants the earned run average to drop.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 4/3, 7:30 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez did not throw his scheduled bullpen session Thursday, but skipper Bruce Bochy noted that he didn't suffer a setback in his return from a burn on his left index finger, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: He will throw the pen session today and is expected to start Sunday's exhibition season finale against the Dodgers. Sanchez is slated to be the Giants' fifth starter in the rotation.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 3/31, 10:44 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Jonathan Sanchez burned his finger on his pitching hand Tuesday in a kitchen accident and could miss his start Wednesday.

Our View: At least he didn't try to iron his shirt while he was still wearing it. The good news is the burn is small. The bad news is it will most certainly cause a blister, which spells bad news for pitchers. This is a frustrating setback as Sanchez was having a promising spring.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 3/27, 6:36 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez scattered seven hits over seven innings and allowed two earned runs as he tallied his first win of the spring Friday. He struck out six and didn't walk a man.

Our View: This is a great start for Sanchez considering he struggled with his control last year. If he can keep his wildness under wraps it should lead to a lower ERA, and his K-rate makes him a valuable starting pitcher.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 3/22, 10:40 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez gave up five hits, two walks, and four earned runs over 3.2 innings as the Giants fell to Milwaukee 10-9 on Sunday. He gave up two home runs while striking out five.

Our View: Sanchez doubled his innings pitched total in 2008 from 2007 and it appeared to take its toll on him. He crumbled down the stretch and even spent some time on the DL. He boasts a strong strikeout rate, but he is also prone to wildness. His 4.27 BB/9 rate from last season will need to improve if he hopes to be an effective member of the Giants staff for the entire season.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 3/19, 7:36 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez is expected to return from the WBC today after representing Puerto Rico, and pitch for the Giants Sunday against the Brewers, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Sanchez fired 157 strikeouts over 158 innings last season, and could be a solid fantasy starter if he can improve his control and limit his walks. He is worth targeting as a late-round sleeper in mixed leagues.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 3/11, 11:25 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez earned the victory in Puerto Rico's 5-0 win over the Netherlands on Wednesday. He struck out four in four innings while allowing no runs, two hits, and a walk.

Our View: If Sanchez could cut his walks in half, he could make an all-star game. He strikes out nearly a batter per inning, but his high walk rate helped lead to a 1.45 ERA and 1.45 WHIP.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 2/27, 8:05 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Jonathan Sanchez looked very good over three innings in the Giants 6-1 loss to the Royals on Friday. He allowed three hits with no runs and no walks, while striking out four. Sanchez is on an accelerated program in order to be ready for the World Baseball Classic.

Our View: Sanchez has some nasty stuff, but he simply walked too many hitters last season to be effective. His 8.94 K/9 rate was awesome, but his 4.27 BB/9 rate had a lot to do with his 5.01 ERA.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 2/23, 7:18 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez will represent Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic as their No. 3 starter in the rotation, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Sanchez has looked strong so far in camp, and remains the favorite for the fifth spot in the Giants' rotation. He needs to improve his consistency and issue less walks, but should at least be a solid source for strikeouts.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 2/17, 7:39 AM CT
Manager Bruce Bochy noted that Jonathan Sanchez looks far ahead of the other pitchers in spring training, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Sanchez remains the favorite for the fifth spot in the Giants' rotation. He could prove to be a nice fantasy pick for 2009 if he can pitch with more consistency and cut down on his walks. He should at least be a solid source for strikeouts.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 2/12, 7:24 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez is the favorite for the fifth spot in the Giants' rotation, according to the SF Chronicle. He will be competing with Noah Lowry for the job. GM Brian Sabean noted that Sanchez is "bigger and stronger."

Our View: Sanchez enjoyed a strong first half in 2008, but did not fare as well in the second. He needs to be more consistent and lower his walks, but he is a nice sleeper to consider for 2009, and should at least be a solid source for strikeouts.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 2/11, 6:04 PM CT
Giants GM Brian Sabean doesn't see trading Jonathan Sanchez for a bat as a possibility, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Sanchez continues to improve and with some bats still available through free agency, it doesn't make much sense for them to trade a strong starter that they can keep cheaply for a few years.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 12/27, 7:06 PM CT
The Giants will listen to offers for hurler Jonathan Sanchez, according to the Giants' official website.

Our View: The club is more willing to part with Sanchez after reeling in Randy Johnson.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/10, 11:35 PM CT
The Giants have made it abundantly clear they are not trading pitcher Jonathan Sanchez, according to MLB.com.

Our View: There was a rumor of a three-way swap with the Marlins sending third baseman Jorge Cantu to the Giants for Sanchez, who would then be traded to the Rangers for a catcher.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 12/4, 6:12 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez will not be traded for "any old player," according to the Mercury News.

Our View: Sanchez went 9-12 with a 5.01 ERA last year, but he's still only 26.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 12/3, 2:21 PM CT
The Florida Marlins and San Francisco Giants have discussed a deal that would send Jorge Cantu to San Francisco in return for hurler Jonathan Sanchez, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Even though Sanchez had his struggles this year, left-handers with talent don't grow on trees. He just turned 26, and last season was his first in the big leagues as a full-time starter. Cantu is a solid player, but is a free swinger who walked just 40 times in 668 plate appearances last season.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/30, 5:09 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez could be shopped this off-season in the Giants attempts to add a big bat to the lineup, according to The Mercury News. The report went on to state that the club likely wouldn't sign any big money free agents, though they would be interested in adding players through trade.

Our View: The story mentioned a whole host of big name players who might fit the criteria that the Giants are looking for: Prince Fielder, J.J. Hardy, Rickie Weeks, Garrett Atkins, Clint Barmes and Dan Uggla. The Giants need to add a bat, but it remains to be seen what the club can get for Sanchez after a terrible second half (1-7, 7.47 ERA, 1.66 WHIP).
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 9/25, 9:15 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez lost for the eighth time in his last nine decisions, done after 3.1 innings and just 74 pitches, according to the AP. The left-hander was tagged for seven runs - matching his season high - and seven hits. "He shouldn't be tired. He had trouble getting it where he wanted," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's a disappointing start for him. He wasn't very good tonight. He's got good stuff and he'll be fine. Right now, he's not consistent with his command and that's not going to work at this level."

Our View: Before this terrible run, Sanchez was a worthy fantasy starter. However, he has clearly been a drag on his owners who stuck with him. Expect better in 2009.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 9/1, 9:05 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez (shoulder) returned to the hill on Monday and lasted seven innings against the Rockies. However, Sanchez lost the game despite allowing just three hits and three walks which led to three runs.

Our View: The good news is that Sanchez looked strong and lasted 108 pitches giving his owners hope that he will be able to contribute down the stretch as this was his third straight outing of three or fewer runs allowed.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 8/25, 7:14 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez threw off a mound Sunday and is ready to come off the DL, but it will not happen before the Giants go on the road this weekend, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Manager Bruce Bochy also does not plan to go with a six-man rotation to ease Sanchez's workload.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/20, 7:00 AM CT
An MRI revealed that Jonathan Sanchez has a mild rotator cuff strain (left shoulder), according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The ailment is not believed to be serious and the Giants hope he can begin playing catch by the end of the week.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/16, 3:01 PM CT
Giants pitcher Jonathan Sanchez was scratched from his start against the Braves tonight due to a left shoulder strain, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Matt Palmer will make the start instead.

Our View: There is no word on the seriousness of the injury, or if the team will put him on the DL. Sanchez was in a downward spiral, losing four consecutive starts and five out of six, and his fantasy value was waning.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 8/11, 10:03 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez had a no-hitter through five innings before things fell apart on Monday night. Still, he only allowed two runs over seven innings as he walked just one batter while striking out two as his record fell to 8-9.

Our View: The Giants have scored one run or less in 12 of Sanchez's 24 starts this season, simply abysmal production from an anemic offense. Sanchez didn't have his dominating stuff tonight, but still, when you allow two runs you should get the win more nights than not.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/30, 11:50 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez simply didn't have it on this night as he allowed five hits, four walks and four runs in just four innings in his seventh loss of the year.

Our View: In July Sanchez was brutal with an 0-3 record, a 8.57 ERA and a terrible 1.50 K/BB mark. Sanchez could certainly be tiring given that he worked mainly out of the pen the past two seasons. If you can still move him for something, you would be advised to give it a shot.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 7/13, 9:15 PM CT
When Jonathan Sanchez and Tim Lincecum start for the Giants the team is 25 - 12. The rest of the rotation is 14 - 40.

Our View: Skipper Bruce Bochy plans to shuffle the rotation after the All-Star break with Matt Cain pitching Friday, Sanchez on Saturday and then Lincecum, the All Star, on Sunday. Barry Zito will pitch Monday and Kevin Correia on Tuesday.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/9, 9:55 PM CT
The Giants failed to wake up for tonight's game against the Mets, falling 5-0 with a total of three hits as a team on the evening. As a result, LHP Jonathan Sanchez suffered his fifth loss of the season, pitching four innings to allow three runs (all earned) on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Sanchez was a stud through June, going 5-1 with 14 total earned runs allowed through six starts (a total of 40.2 innings). July has not started as nicely, suffering a no-decision after five innings in his first start followed by tonight's performance, tainted by a total lack of offensive support.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 7/4, 6:41 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez allowed three earned runs on five hits over five innings in Friday's 10-7 loss to the Dodgers at home, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: He exited the game with a 5-3 lead and was dealt a no decision. He has not lost in three-straight starts, and only allowed one earned run in each of his previous two outings.

Jonathan Sanchez followed Tim Lincecum's lead and silenced the A's on Sunday. The 25-year-old southpaw held Oakland to four hits and one run over seven innings. Sanchez walked one, struck out seven, and improved to 8-4 with a 3.79 ERA. He is 6-1 since May 28 and owns 103 whiffs over 102.0 innings.

Our View: In just over one month, Sanchez has gone from waiver wire material in most mixed leagues to a rotation fixture. He has really come into his own this year, and it looks like the Giants have quite a lefty to mix in with Lincecum and Matt Cain.

The Giants fought through to a hard-nosed 3-2 win over the Indians tonight, an offensive effort pushed with just six total hits, only one good for extra bases. The tough work had to be done by LHP Jonathan Sanchez , pitching 7 2/3 innings to allow just one run on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View: Sanchez picked up the win and now sits at 7-4 on the season, touting a 3.98 ERA and a record of 4-1 for the month of June.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/12, 6:41 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez needed 109 pitches to make it through five innings, yet he somehow managed to record the win despite allowing seven runs to the Rockies.

Our View: Sanchez is now 6-3 on the year with a strong 8.96 K/9 mark, though he often has days like this where he has difficulty finding the strike zone. This was the first time in seven starts that he allowed more than three earned runs, so look for a bounce back effort from him next time out.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 6/9, 7:14 AM CT
Jonathan Sanchez is pitching very well as of late, and it is namely due to improved mental focus, according to the SF Chronicle. Manager Bruce Bochy said, "I think more than anything it's his focus. He's maintaining it no matter what happens with men on base. He's not losing it. He's not getting distracted. That was his biggest problem early."

Our View: Sanchez is 5-3 this season with a 3.70 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. He continues to hold his most fantasy value in the strikeouts department, as he fired 75 over 75.1 innings.
Jonathan Sanchez, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/7, 10:30 PM CT
Jonathan Sanchez locked in early and the results were impressive as the young left hander held the Nationals scoreless for seven innings to pick up his fifth victory of the year.

Our View: Sanchez only had four K on the night but he walked only two needing, for him, a low total of 98 pitches to make it through seven innings. While he might not be able to keep that ERA below four all season (3.70), he should continue to pile up the strikeouts.

Jonathan Sanchez pitched well and got help from his teammates on Monday night. The southpaw held the Mets to six hits and two runs over seven innings. He also struck out eight. The Giants scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. Sanchez improved to 4-3.

Our View: Sanchez has struck out 71 batters over 68.1 innings, and his move back to the rotation has gone pretty well outside of two disastrous, seven-run outings. His K numbers make him worth looking at even in deep mixed leagues.

The egnigmatic Jonathan Sanchez had one of his good starts on Friday night. The left-hander allowed only a two-run homer to Alexei Ramirez in the seventh inning over 6.2 innings of work.

Our View: Sanchez set the tempo and was in control of the game, and his command was spot on, at least for him. When the southpaw can keep his walks to a minimum he can be dominating. However, it's difficult to get too excited about an Giant pitcher, they rarely get the run support they deserve.

Sanchez only allowed the two runs on five hits over 6.2 innings, with three walks and six strikeouts. All of the damage came on a two-run homer by Alexei Ramirez, which was his first of the season.
