Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 6/27, 10:27 PM CT
Brian Wilson blew his fourth save of the season and fell to 2-4 after giving up three runs off four hits and one walk while recording just two outs, both off strikeouts, in the ninth inning against Milwaukee on Saturday.

Our View: No need to worry about Wilson, who still has 20 saves on the year and a completely secure job as San Francisco's closer.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/25, 12:59 AM CT
Brian Wilson nailed down his 20th save of the season in tonight's 6-3 win at Oakland. Wilson did not allow any hits or walks over one third of an inning, and he had one strikeout.

Our View: Wilson is now tied for the NL lead in saves with Heath Bell. Wilson is a perfect 8-for-8 in save chances this month, and is yet to allow a run over 9.2 innings.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/11, 12:13 AM CT
Brian Wilson picked up his 16th save of the season as he struck out the side in the Giants 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Ten of his 12 pitches went for strikes.

Our View: Wilson has his fair share of ugly outings, but ultimately you just want saves out of your closer as opposed to low ERAs and WHIPs. He is currently tied for second in the NL with 16 saves.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 5/22, 12:19 AM CT
Brian Wilson allowed two runs on two hits and two walks and recorded just two outs in the ninth inning of the Padres 3-2 walk-off win. Wilson blew his third save and took the loss.

Our View: Wilson hasn't been good this season with the three blown saves and his ERA now stands at 4.87. With their offense the Giants aren't going to blow out a lot of team, so they need to win the close ones. Wilson will have to be better or the Giants are in trouble.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 4/18, 12:16 AM CT
Closer Brian Wilson picked up his first save of the season on Friday night. He came into a 2-0 game and held the Diamondbacks scoreless in the ninth inning.

Our View: Wilson was fortunate enough to find 10 save opportunities last April, and he is clearly behind schedule. The nice part is that he has yet to allow a run through four appearances.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 4/3, 7:15 AM CT
Brian Wilson threw a bullpen session Thursday and is expected to be available to work an inning against Oakland Friday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Wilson hasn't pitched in an exhibition game in nine days due to an infected middle finger on his throwing hand, but felt good after yesterday's session and is expected to be ready to go for opening day. Skipper Bruce Bochy said, "With the way he threw today, there is no worry about him being ready for opening day."

Our View: It looks like Wilson will be fine to handle the closer's role for the start of the season. Wilson is worth targeting as a top-10 reliever.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/2, 1:19 PM CT
Brian Wilson hasn't pitched in a game with the Giants for the last eight days while dealing with an infected middle finger, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Wilson is in jeopardy of not being ready to pitch for opening day. Jeremy Affeldt could handle the closer's role in his absence.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 3/14, 8:21 PM CT
Giants closer Brian Wilson gave up no hits, walks, or runs, while striking out one in one inning of work as the Giants fell to the Padres 8-4 on Saturday.

Our View: Wilson was quite combustible on his way to 41 saves last season, but he has been phenomenal this spring. He has allowed just two hits and no earned runs over five innings of work.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 2/17, 7:35 AM CT
Brian Wilson has been working on a changeup and skipper Bruce Bochy wants him to try it out in Cactus League games, according to the SF Chronicle. Bochy said, "We want him to get to the point where he is comfortable throwing it anytime, not be hesitant to use it and not be afraid to get beat with that pitch. We are not going to be results-oriented with that pitch in spring training."

Our View: Wilson features a fastball and hard slider, but the Giants believe he needs to employ an off-speed pitch to keep hitters off-balance. Wilson nailed down 41 saves with the club in 2008, and ranks as a top-10 fantasy closer for 2009. He could trim his WHIP, which was at 1.44 last season, if his changeup proves to be effective.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 9/27, 7:22 AM CT
Brian Wilson blew his sixth save of the season on Friday night to the Dodgers by giving up two home runs and three runs in the ninth.

Our View: Owners may be surprised to hear that Wilson, and his 4.70 ERA, has blown just six saves this season. He has 66 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched this season but has a knack to get himself into jams with a 1.43 WHIP. Still, 40 saves puts him in line to be the Giants' closer again in 2009.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 9/21, 7:55 PM CT
Brian Wilson recorded his 40th save of the season on Sunday as he hit 100 mph on the radar gun a couple of times.

Our View: No one questions the heat with Wilson, the questions revolve around a lack of secondary pitches and a propensity to put too many runners on base (he owns a 1.41 WHIP and a 4.18 BB/9). Wilson is locked in to the closers role in '09, but he could once again be a bumpy ride.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 9/10, 6:24 PM CT
Brian Wilson blew a second straight save chance to the D'backs on Wednesday allowing two runs on one hit and two walks, though in both games the Giants came back to win.

Our View: This was his fifth blown save of the year and his ERA is up to 4.55 with these two poor outing outings. Still, Wilson is in no danger of losing his closers spot and he is just three saves short of a 40 effort campaign.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 8/27, 11:58 PM CT
Brian Wilson picked up his 36th save Wednesday, closing out the Giants 3-1 victory over the Rockies.

Our View: Wilson continues to be a great source of strike outs and saves for fantasy owners.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/24, 6:34 PM CT
Brian Wilson has been solid though unspectacular for the Giants, but he still has 35 saves on the season, including one in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Padres.

Our View: Wilson gets saves and strikes people out to the tune of 9.93 K/9 entering Saturday's game. That'll word just fine for fantasy owners.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/23, 5:42 PM CT
Brian Wilson picked up his 34th save of the season Saturday, pitching a spotless ninth while striking out two.

Our View: Wilson's high ERA and WHIP haven't stopped him from being quite effective in the saves department. He has blown just three chances this year.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/2, 12:16 AM CT
Brian Wilson pulled a Whodini act on Friday night as he loaded the bases before inducing a game ending double play for his NL leading 29th save of the season.

Our View: The guy just can't do things the easy way. Wilson owns a poor 1.54 WHIP, and his ERA isn't great at 4.46, but he is 29 for 31 in converting saves and isn't in danger of losing his spot at the back end of the Giants bullpen.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 7/24, 12:09 AM CT
Brian Wilson picked up his NL leading 27th save on Wednesday night as the Giants defeated the Nationals 6-4.

Our View: Wilson was blowing his normal cheese on this night and he struck out two of the four batters he faced. He might not always be pretty, but when he is on, as he was tonight, hitters stand little chance.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 7/5, 11:24 PM CT
Brian Wilson converted his 15th straight save of the year on Saturday night, his 24th overall to lead the National League.

Our View: Wilson comes in throwing cheese, has the funky flavor saver on his chin and the prerequisite massive tattoos on his arms. Rickey Vaughan would be proud.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 7/2, 7:59 AM CT
Brian Wilson seems to have a legitimate shot to join Tim Lincecum and perhaps Bengie Molina on the All Star team this year, which is a surprise considering the expectations of the Giants this season. Four of his saves and 10 of his 37 strikeouts have come against Clint Hurdle's Colorado Rockies, who will manage the National League on July 13th.

Our View: Wilson has been first or second in National League saves for most of the season. Through Tuesday, he led the NL with 23 saves in 25 chances.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 6/18, 4:47 PM CT
Brian Wilson entered Wednesday's game with 19 saves. The last Giant to reach 20 by the All-Star break was Matt Herges in 2004.

Our View: Wilson's fastball registered 102 mph on the AT&T Park radar gun in Monday's mop up appearance against the Tigers.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 6/12, 6:50 PM CT
Brian Wilson struck out two batters in an inning of work on Thursday against the Rockies to pick up his 19th save of the season.

Our View: Wilson was blowing 97 mph heat past the Rockies today, and when he is hitting the corners with stuff like that, batters have little chance. Wilson has faced some struggles this season, but he has converted 10-straight save chances for the Giants.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 5/29, 11:50 PM CT
Brian Wilson picked up his 16th save of the season on Thursday night in his 18th attempt for the Giants.

Our View: Wilson leads the NL in saves, and when he throws strikes like he did tonight, he is virtually unbeatable. The Giants basically use him every time they have a close game, so don't be surprised to see him approach 35 saves even if the Giants lose somewhere near 95 games.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/20, 11:16 PM CT
The San Francisco Giants scored two in the ninth to take the lead, but had to tie down the 6-5 win after allowing two runs to the Colorado Rockies in the bottom of that same final inning. Reliever Brian Wilson found his groove just in time to secure the 13th save of his season. Wilson went one inning and surrendered those two runs (both earned) on a Clint Barmes home run.

Our View: Wilson also posted a walk to put that runner onboard, but he found his composure and managed to secure the win despite his best effort to let it slip away.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/18, 10:21 PM CT
Pitching in a non-save situation, Brian Wilson looked awful on Sunday allowing four runs while getting just two outs as his ERA skyrocketed to 5.09.

Our View: So many closers fail to come up big when they aren't going for the save which leads to a simple question: aren't three outs, three outs, and if so, why do so many fireman simply start fires when there isn't a chance for a save?
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 5/13, 11:54 PM CT
Brian Wilson converted his 12th save in 14 chances this year for the Giants against the Astros.

Our View: Wilson continues to be one of the better closers in baseball at racking up the saves, even if many of his outings are far from clean. Tonight's game was the exception as he didn't allow a single base runner.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 5/11, 7:22 PM CT
Brian Wilson saved his 11th game on Sunday. The hard-throwing right-hander allowed a hit and struck out one in the ninth inning preserving a 4-3 Giants win over the Phillies.

Our View: Wilson continues to get save opportunites. His 3.38 ERA is palatable but his 1.47 ERA, especially for a closer, is concerning. For now owners can't complain about his 11 saves in his first 17 appearances.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/24, 1:05 AM CT
Brian Wilson made it interesting but he still picked up his sixth save of the season for the Giants. Wilson allowed two hits and two walks, which led to a run in the 13th inning.

Our View: Wilson has a 4.32 ERA and has allowed 10 hits in 8.1 innings, but he is six for seven on save chances in his first year as a full-time closer.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 4/13, 7:10 PM CT
Brian Wilson provided a little excitement on Sunday. He came on in the ninth inning and allowed two singles before striking out two hitters and ending the game on a fly ball. Wilson earned his third save.

Our View: Wilson has been shaky early in the season, but the Giants have no reason not to stick through any tough times with the young closer.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsFriday 4/11, 7:43 AM CT
Brian Wilson nailed down his second save of the season against St. Louis on Thursday, as he went hitless over 2/3 of the ninth inning, with one strikeout, in a 5-1 Giants win. He won't likely get a lot of save chances this season, but you can't overlook that he already has a pair.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 4/9, 12:09 AM CT
Brian Wilson had his second straight bad outing, and this time it cost him a save. The closer gave up a run on two hits and a walk Tuesday and now has given up three runs in three innings this year. He probably won't get a ton of save chances on the Giants, so Wilson can't blow too many.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsMonday 4/7, 7:06 PM CT
Brian Wilson had a rough outing on Monday pitching in a non-save situation as he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in 0.2 innings. It could have been much worse as Tyler Walker came in to save his bacon as he entered the game with the bases loaded and induced an out without allowing a run. It will likely be a bumpy road with Wilson this year, but the Giants are committed to him being their closer moving forward so unless he blows up he should be out there on the hill if the Giants ever have the chance to actually win a game.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsThursday 4/3, 2:11 AM CT
Brian Wilson pitched 1.1 innings on Wednesday to pick up his first save of the season for the Giants. Wilson struck out one and allowed no hits while throwing just 15 pitches. The Giants are counting on Wilson emerging as the team's closer this season, and tonight was an excellent start toward meeting that goal.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 3/12, 8:07 PM CT
Brian Wilson tossed a scoreless inning Wednesday and has been unscored upon in five of six outings this spring. Wilson has been anointed as the Giants closer for the '08 season. He has the stuff to succeed and could be a nice stopper to grab later on in your draft.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 2/17, 9:09 AM CT
The Giants previously named Brian Wilson as their closer, and the 25-year-old right-hander sounds ready for the job. "No fear of a one-run lead, no fear of the ninth inning and no fear of the hitter at the plate," catcher Bengie Molina tells the San Jose Mercury News about Wilson. "He showed last year he's ready for that job."
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 9/23, 11:50 PM CT
Brian Wilson has been successful in all six save opportunities this year, and he's an early favorite to hold down the closer job for the Giants in 2008, according to the AP. "He's doing a great job and he's throwing strikes," manager Bruce Bochy said. "I like his mentality out there. He's been a real shot in the arm for us." If Wilson is still available, he's worth stashing away in keeper leagues.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 9/16, 1:06 PM CT
Brian Wilson and Tyler Walker will share the closer duties for the Giants. They are replacing Brad Hennessey, who recorded 19 saves in 24 opportunities, but he has blown three of his last five save chances. "Walker has the weapons and mentality to do it, and I think Wilson does," manager Bruce Bochy said on the team's official site. "Again, I'm disappointed in how a lot of these games have gone, but not discouraged because of how those two have thrown the ball."
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsTuesday 9/11, 11:54 PM CT
Brian Wilson earned his third save of the year Tuesday, working a scoreless inning against the Diamondbacks. Wilson could be in line for more save chances, as Brad Hennessey has been struggling lately (three blown saves out of five chances).
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 8/12, 7:18 AM CT
Brian Wilson was recalled from Triple-A Saturday, taking the roster spot of Jonathan Sanchez. Considered a possible closing option back in the spring, Wilson struggled and got demoted to the minors, where he's been solid if not outstanding (.2.10 ERA, 1.40 ratio). Wilson struck out just over a batter per inning at Fresno, but walks are still a problem (24 in 34 1/3 innings).
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSunday 4/29, 2:23 PM CT
Brian Wilson has been shut down at Triple-A Fresno because of arm soreness, the Contra Costa Times reports. Wilson, who entered the spring as a possible candidate to supplant closer Armando Benitez, had been throwing side sessions to work on his breaking pitches.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 3/31, 8:14 PM CT
Brian Wilson, who was considered the Giants top setup man earlier this spring, was sent to Triple-A on Saturday, according to the AP. "This is best for Brian," manager Bruce Bochy said. "We just think he needs a little more work." Wilson struggled this spring, holding a 7.71 ERA in 13 games.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 3/28, 9:31 AM CT
Brian Wilson has gone from a potential closing candidate to someone who might not even make the Giants, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Wilson allowed five runs in his stint Tuesday, pushing his ERA up to 8.44. He's walked seven and struck out seven in his 10 2/3 innings this month.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsWednesday 3/14, 9:03 AM CT
Brian Wilson would probably step into the closer role if Armando Benitez is traded, according to the Giants official site. The Red Sox and Marlins have been mentioned as teams potentially having interest in Benitez.
Brian Wilson, P, San Francisco GiantsSaturday 8/12, 8:28 PM CT
The Giants optioned Brian Wilson to Triple-A Fresno on Saturday, according to the AP. He has posted a 1-3 record and a 5.40 ERA in 23 1/3 innings with San Francisco this season.
