Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 10/20, 10:23 AM CT
The Brewers have hired former Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson to the same position in Milwaukee, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View: The move had been rumored for some time. Peterson has a mountain ahead of him, taking over the pitching staff of a team that had MLB's 27th best ERA at 4.83 last year.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 9/20, 4:51 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo tossed five scoreless innings on Sunday as the Brewers blanked the Astros 6-0. Gallardo allowed three hits while walking three and striking out seven.

Our View: Gallardo finished his 2009 season on a very positve note, as the team will shut him down for the remiander of the year. He looks excellent today, and it will be a good start to build on for 2010.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 9/18, 5:48 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo will be placed on a limited pitch-count for Sunday's start against the Astros, according to team beat writer Adam McCalvy's twitter page.

Our View: That will also mark Gallardo's last start of 2009. He pitched 180.2 innings over 29 starts this season, and the Brewers do not want to overextend his arm.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 9/17, 12:34 AM CT
Yovani Gallardo could be shut-down for the season by the Brewers, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He has thrown the fifth most pitches in the National League this season, and put a lot of wear-and-tear on his precious 23-year-old arm. He only has three more scheduled outings, so shutting him down would make a lot of sense for the finished Brewers.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 9/15, 10:55 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo got ripped up by the Cubs on Tuesday. He was touched for seven runs on seven hits and five walks over just 5.1 innings. He fanned five, but was handed his 12th loss of the season as the Brewers fell 13-7.

Our View: Gallardo hasn't looked good in a start since early August. His dominance from the beginning of the year has faded and he appears to have hit a wall. Not surprising since he's already over 180 innings this season (70 more than he's ever pitched in the big leagues).
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 9/6, 1:46 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo will be skipped the next time through the rotation in order to limit his workload this season, according to MLBlogs.com. The team has an off-day, so everyone else in the rotation will pitch on regular rest.

Our View: The Brewers aren't going anywhere this season, so it makes sense that they would want to take care of the one bright spot in their rotation. Gallardo's record may not show it, but he has been very good for the Brewers this season.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 9/5, 6:37 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo gave up three earned runs on six hits over six innings in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Giants at Miller Park. He had three walks with six strikeouts.

Our View: Gallardo allowed three or less earned runs in each of his last six starts, but only earned two wins over the span. He falls to 12-11 following today's loss.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 8/29, 9:45 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo allowed three runs while striking out seven in five innings on Saturday, taking a no-decision in the Brewers 7-3 win over the Pirates.

Our View: Gallardo has now struck out at least seven in five of his last seven starts.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 8/24, 6:59 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo only allowed one earned run on four hits over five innings in Monday's 7-1 win at Washington. He issued four walks and fired eight strikeouts.

Our View: It was a good outing for Gallardo other than the four free passes, and he picked up his team-leading 12th win of 2009. He also paces the Brewers with a 3.51 ERA and 179 strikeouts.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 8/19, 9:40 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo pitched pretty well on Wednesday, but his offense didn't give him any help as the Brewers fell to the Pirates 3-1. Gallardo went six innings and allowed three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out six.

Our View: Gallardo only allowed four hits tonight, but the big blow was the two-run homer by Ronny Cedeno in the second inning. Gallardo is 11-10 on the season, and he should still be a solid pitching option, even if the Brewers keep struggling.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 8/14, 10:21 PM CT
Spotted eight first inning runs, Yovani Gallardo cruised to his 11th win on Friday night, limiting the Astros to two runs in six innings as the Brewers won 11-2 at home.

Our View: Gallardo has now turned in two straight quality starts since getting lit up for nine runs on August 4, and still looks like a good bet down the stretch, even as the Brewers struggle.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 8/9, 4:17 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo only allowed two earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Sunday's 2-0 loss at Houston. He had four walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Gallardo pitched well, but was unfortunately forced to take a loss due to no run support from his teammates. On the positive side, Gallardo lowered his ERA to 3.54 and bounced back from his last outing when he was lit up for nine earned runs over 5.1 innings at Los Angeles.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 7/30, 3:50 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo picked up his tenth win of the season on Thursday, as the scuttling Brewers beat the Nationals 7-3 to earn back-to-back wins for the first time since June 29-30.

Our View: What won't playing Washington cure? Gallardo stuck out 11 in seven strong innings (though he did allow three runs). His 147 Ks are third in the National League.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 7/25, 9:43 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo tossed a gem on Saturday. The Brewers' ace held the Braves scoreless for 7.1 innings by scattering four hits and four walks. He struck out six and earned his ninth win of the season as the Brewers blanked Atlanta 4-0. He also went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.

Our View: Gallardo lowered his ERA o 3.09 and has rebounded nicely with back to back quality starts after getting lit up in the middle of July. In two starts from July 7-12 he allowed nine runs in ten innings.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 7/19, 3:48 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo pitched six sloppy innings on Sunday, walking four and allowing seven hits and three runs, as the Brewers lost 5-3 in Cincinnati.

Our View: Gallardo's one bad habit continues to be the high amount of hitters he walks. But he's good at everything else, and an elite option in every format.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 7/12, 6:06 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo got shredded by Dodger hitters on Sunday. The Brewers' ace allowed five runs on six hits and four walks over just five innings and fell to 8-7 on the season after a 7-4 loss.

Our View: Gallardo has given out a glut of free passes this season (55) and the patience of the Dodger hitters on Sunday got him in trouble. He's still a great fantasy option with eight wins, a 3.22 ERA and 123 Ks this season, but he needs to cut down on the walks.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 7/7, 10:14 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo was sloppy on Tuesday night, walking five in just five innings of work while surrendering two home runs, and took the loss as the Brewers fell to the Cardinals 5-0.

Our View: Gallardo has racked up strikeouts and wins in 2009, and kept a low ERA, but has also piled up walks. He's a top-tier fantasy pitcher, but could become an elite one if he could cut down on the base-on-balls.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 7/1, 4:39 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo struck out 12 Mets in seven sterling innings of work on Wednesday, but the Brewers still fell to the Amazins 1-0.

Our View: After three shaky outings by his standards, Gallardo has now pitched two straight gems. His 2.75 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 114 strikeouts are all among the National League leaders.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 6/26, 10:04 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo was in control from the bump in Friday's 5-1 win over the Giants at Miller Park, as he only surrendered one earned run on four hits over 7.2 innings. He had three walks and racked up nine strikeouts.

Our View: The rising star claimed his team-leading eighth win of the season, and trimmed his ERA to 2.86. Half of his wins were nailed down at home.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 6/21, 3:02 PM CT
On Sunday Yovani Gallardo rebounded nicely from his last start, but still couldn't earn a win. The Brewers' ace allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over seven innings, but was tagged with his fourth loss of the season as the Brewers fell to the Tigers 3-2.

Our View: Gallardo has been very good this season, but there should be some concern over the nine walks he has allowed in his last 12 innings of work. He's still sporting a very solid 3.00 ERA on the season, and did strike out eight in Sunday's start, but walks always lead to trouble. Something to keep an eye on.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 6/16, 9:39 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo had one of his worst starts of the season on Tuesday, walking six batters in only five innings of work, but still managed to earn his seventh win of the year as the Brewers won 7-5 in Cleveland.

Our View: Gallardo has now walked at least four batters in four of his last five starts. He is still picking up wins, but all the extra baserunners could come back to burn him eventually. He remains a top tier fantasy option, however.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 6/11, 5:07 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo lost his first decision since May 20 as the Brewers fell 5-4 to the Rockies on Thursday. Gallardo had given up only one earned run in his last three starts, spanning 29.1 innings.

Our View: Gallardo has definitely emerged as a premier fantasy pitcher. He could afford to walk a few less batters, but his 2.88 ERA and 1.10 WHIP are difficult to argue with.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 6/5, 9:09 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo enjoyed a strong outing in Friday's 4-0 win at Atlanta, as he only allowed two hits over eight scoreless innings. He had four walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Gallardo improves to 6-2, and trimmed his ERA to 2.84. He is pitching great, as he allowed one or less runs in each of his last three outings.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 5/31, 6:42 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo improved to 5-2 on Sunday, giving up one earned run (two total) off seven hits and two walks while striking out nine in 5.1 innings against the Reds.

Our View: It wasn't Gallardo's best performance when you consider the weak WHIP, but the nine strikeouts were still his second highest total of the season. He's been dominant in eight of his 10 starts this season, and at 23 years of age, appears to be one of the best young pitchers in the majors.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 5/25, 4:10 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo surrendered only two hits in eight shutout innings as the Brewers defeated the Cardinals 1-0 on Monday. He struck out six against four walks, but did not factor in the decision.

Our View: Gallardo brought his "A" game today and he needed to in order to match a dominating performance from Chris Carpenter. He had allowed six earned runs over five innings in his last outing. Aside from a couple of uncharacteristically bad outings, he is showing definitive signs of developing into the fantasy ace that many expect him to be.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 5/20, 11:59 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo got roughed up by the Astros on Wednesday as the Brewers fell to Houston 6-4. Gallardo went five innings and allowed six runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out three.

Our View: Gallardo has been excellent this season, but he was bad tonight. He should still be considered a top fantasy pitcher, and tonight looks like a rare occurrence for the Brewers' ace.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 5/9, 10:36 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo allowed two runs on five hits and four walks over five innings and earned his fourth victory as the Brewers smashed the Cubs 12-6. Gallardo struck out eight in the contest.

Our View: Gallardo has had a very strong season for the Brewers. This is the guy fantasy owners were hoping to see last year when he suffered a leg injury and missed almost the entire season. Looks like he was worth the wait.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 5/4, 11:43 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo was pretty good again on Monday, going seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out five. He did not factor into the decision.

Our View: Gallardo has been excellent this season, and surprisingly enough this was one of his worst starts of the year. Gallardo owners will take this game every now and then if he continues to be very good, so right now he is a very good fantasy option.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 4/29, 3:12 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo was brilliant in his start against the Pirates on Wednesday afternoon. He tossed eight scoreless innings and struck out 11 batters. Gallardo allowed just two hits and walked one as he improved to 3-1 on the season. Oh, and he also smacked a solo homer for the game's only run.

Our View: Fantasy owners came into the season cautiously hoping Gallardo could turn into an ace, and he is on his way. He had one rough outing this month but has otherwise been sharp. If you drafted him this March, you have every reason to smile.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 4/24, 11:02 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo was masterful on Friday throwing a complete game against the Houston Astros. He allowed two runs on just five hits and struck out seven in the Brewers 5-2 win. He did not walk a batter and is now 2-1 on the season.

Our View: Gallardo's lone mistake was a pitch to Carlos Lee in the fourth inning that ended up in the seats. He didn't let it get to him though and settled in to finish off the Astros with a 106-pitch outing. He threw 71 of those for strikes.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 4/18, 3:35 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo threw six scoreless innings, with five hits allowed, in Saturday's 1-0 loss at the Mets. He racked up seven strikeouts and issued two walks.

Our View: Gallardo pitched well today, but was unfortunately dealt a no-decision due to a lack of offensive support from his teammates. Carlos Villanueva took the loss after allowing an RBI single to Jose Reyes in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 4/13, 11:04 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo lasted just five innings and yielded seven runs on three hits and four walks in the Brewers' 7-6 loss to the Reds on Monday. He gave up two home runs while striking out three hitters.

Our View: Gallardo needed 100 pitches to get 15 outs tonight. Hopefully he will be able to put the loss behind him and come out in his next turn looking like the pitcher that many expect him to be.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 4/9, 12:31 AM CT
Yovani Gallardo tossed 6.2 innings and scattered six hits and two walks, allowing just two runs, and earned his first win Wednesday.

Our View: A freak injury cost Gallardo his season last year, but this kid is the real deal. The injury wasn't pitching related and he seems right as rain. Expect big things from this promising young hurler with great stuff. He may be the only valuable starter on the Brewers.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 4/4, 12:52 AM CT
Yovani Gallardo hurled five scoreless innings against the Dodgers on Friday. He allowed just two hits and struck out three.

Our View: Gallardo threw 82 pitches against the Dodgers and ends his spring with a 3-2 record and 4.18 ERA.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 3/23, 7:00 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo got rocked by the Rockies on Monday. In five innings, he allowed six runs on six hits, including three home runs, while walking two and striking out two.

Our View: Needless to say, this is not the sort of performance you want to see out of your ace some two weeks before opening day. Gallardo will need to straighten things out fast, especially since the rotation has gotten a little bit thinner with Seth McClung probably covering for the injured Trevor Hoffman to begin the season.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 3/18, 6:14 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo cruised through five hitless innings on Wednesday in a 4-1 victory over the D-Backs. He struck out three, but struggled with his control a bit and walked three as well.

Our View: Scheduled to be the new ace in Milwaukee, there is a lot expected of Gallardo from the Brewers and fantasy owners. He has the stuff to be an ace, but he needs to stay healthy and keep his composure on the mound.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 3/8, 11:48 PM CT
The presumed ace of the Brewers' staff, Yovani Gallardo got torn to pieces Sunday by the Royals. Failing to get out of the first inning, Gallardo allowed seven runs (five earned) on four hits and he walked three batters.

Our View: Sunday was like night and day compared to Gallardo's previous start, in which he breezed through three innings. If he's to be the ace, it's safe to say he'll have to be a tad more consistent.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 3/3, 9:32 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo pitched a gem on the same day that he signed a one-year deal with Milwaukee, allowing zero runs and just one hit while striking out five in three innings of work.

Our View: Without the services of CC Sabathia or Ben Sheets, Gallardo will fill the role of ace for the Brewers. He was the victim of a freak injury last season and has the stuff to shut down opponents every five days for Milwaukee.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 3/3, 11:00 AM CT
Yovani Gallardo has signed a one-year deal with the Brewers, according to the Associated Press. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: If healthy, the 23-year-old hurler could prove to be a top sleeper at the position. He should be a solid source for strikeouts in the very least.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 2/26, 7:33 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo walked a pair of batters and struck out one in an inning of work Thursday in the Brewers' 7-4 to the Cubs.

Our View: Held out most of last season with an ACL tear, the 23-year-old Gallardo will have to deal with the pressure of being a top-of-the-rotation pitcher in the absence of ace Ben Sheets, who will miss time once again with injury.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 2/17, 1:49 PM CT
Skipper Ken Macha noted that Yovani Gallardo won't likely pitch the Brewers' season opener, according to MLB.com. Macha pointed to his lack of experience and said, "I would rather have this guy go out and start in the middle somewhere. I do not know where it is going to be just yet. Who knows, it might be second starter. I do not want him going out there thinking he has to throw a shutout every game and know you are facing Tim Lincecum and Jake Peavy and Carlos Zambrano, guys like that."

Our View: Gallardo could still blossom into an ace for their rotation this season, and the 23-year-old is worth drafting among the first 35 fantasy hurlers.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 2/15, 12:13 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo is still thinking about pitching for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: The Brewers would love to see him skip the event as he is expected to be their ace this season. Furthermore, he only threw 24 innings in the regular season last year due to a knee injury and the team has a new pitching coach. His presence in camp would not only be good for him, but also for the development of the entire staff.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 11/8, 8:15 AM CT
The Milwaukee Brewers have named Bill Castro as their pitching coach, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: Castro has certainly put in the time. He's spent the past 17 years as the team's bullpen coach. He replaces Mike Maddux, who departed to be the pitching coach at Texas.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 10/5, 4:54 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen on Sunday as the Brewers were eliminated from the playoffs.

Our View: Gallardo finishes his first post season with an ERA of 0.00 over seven innings, though he did allow three unearned runs in his Game 1 loss to the Phillies. The future is bright for this star, and he will be drafted early next season based on that potential.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 10/1, 5:10 PM CT
The Brewers soon-to-be ace Yovani Gallardo threw 75 pitches over four innings in Wednesday's Game 1 loss to the Phillies. The youngster yielded three unearned runs following a Rickie Weeks error. Coming back from knee surgery, the Brewers did not want to go much beyond 75 pitches for Gallardo on Wednesday.

Our View: His control wavered most of the day and it could probably be attributed to playoff pressure. He allowed just three hits while walking five. Over the 2008 season, he walked just eight batters in 24 innings.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 9/30, 4:34 PM CT
Twenty-two year old Yovani Gallardo is more than ready to take on the pressure of starting Game 1 of the Brewers series with the Phillies, according to MLB.com. "Obviously, he's put himself through a lot this season with the knee injuries, and he battled back and did everything he could," manager Dale Sveum said. "He threw four great innings against the Pirates a week ago. And his makeup, we feel he's really the right guy for Game 1."

Our View: Gallardo is supremely talented but going with a guy who threw only 24 innings this season and has just 134.1 innings in his career seems like a huge risk. However, with the injury to Ben Sheets and the fact that CC Sabathia can't pitch every game, the Breweers really have few choices to turn to other than Gallardo since names like Dave Bush and Jeff Suppan certainly don't strike fear into anyone.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 9/29, 7:32 PM CT
ESPN.com reports that Yovani Gallardo will start Game 1 for the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL playoffs against Philadelphia, followed by ace CC Sabathia for Game 2.

Our View: Gallardo returned from a torn knee ligament and pitched four innings last Thursday against Pittsburgh in his first start since May 1. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed one run and three hits while throwing 67 pitches.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 9/25, 10:28 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo showed quite well in his return Thursday against Pittsburgh. In four innings he struck out four, walked two, allowed two hits, and one run on a solo shot by Scott Pearce. The Brewers won 5-1.

Our View: This was the best the Brewers could ask for from their ace who was thought to be done for the season back in May when he tore his ACL.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 9/24, 5:25 PM CT
Fresh off of the disabled list, Yovani Gallardo will get the start on Thursday against the Pirates according to the Journal-Sentinel. Gallardo has been out since May 2nd with a torn ACL.

Our View: Dale Sveum is trying to piece together a rotation for the final important week of the season and is working around Ben Sheets' ailing elbow and ineffectiveness of Manny Parra and Jeff Suppan. It would impress us if Gallardo is able to provide any fantasy value in this start despite the weaker opposition.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 9/23, 4:56 PM CT
The Brewers activated Yovani Gallardo from the disabled list Tuesday. Gallardo has been out since May 2 with a torn ACL in his right knee.

Our View: Gallardo will pitch in relief down the stretch, which obviously limits his fantasy value despite his ability.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 9/21, 11:06 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo will be re-evaluated on Monday to see if he is ready to return from May knee surgery, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "With Gallardo, we have to make that decision, see how he is doing," manager Dale Sveum said. "We'll make that decision (today)."

Our View: Gallardo has made two appearances in simulated games, but he is nowhere near being able to start so he would only be able to contribute out of the pen. Is it really worth rushing him back to the mound to throw two or three regular season innings given that he is the club's future ace?
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 9/19, 8:40 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Yovani Gallardo threw 75 pitches in an instructional league game Friday in Phoenix, and he will return to Milwaukee on Sunday for a Monday evaluation. With the Brewers' pitching staff suddenly in scramble mode and Ben Sheets ruled out for his start on Tuesday because of a bad right elbow, a healthy Gallardo would be a welcome addition, even if he's used only in relief.

Our View: The Brewers need him. Gallardo, who has not pitched since May 1st, has thrown 20 innings this season over three starts and has an impressive 1.80 ERA to show for it.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 9/16, 6:13 PM CT
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Yovani Gallardo, who has been out since May 1 with a knee injury, threw a simulated game today in Arizona and could rejoin the team this weekend in Cincinnati. He would be restricted to bullpen duty.

Our View: The Brewers need him. Gallardo has just thrown 20 innings this season and has an impressive 1.80 ERA to show for it. He will probably take Manny Parra's spot in the rotation but could be slotted into their troubled bullpen.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 9/2, 7:37 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo, who tore the ACL in his right knee early in the season, threw two simulated innings on Tuesday at Miller Park, this according to JS Online.

Our View: After being written off this season, Gallardo could pitch again. However, if he does it will be in relief.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 8/16, 12:00 AM CT
Yovani Gallardo threw off a mound Thursday for the first time since undergoing surgery for a torn ACL, according to MLB.com. However, he and the Brewers are downplaying his progress. "It's really not anything big," Gallardo said. "It was nothing to stressful. I still have to gain some strength."

Our View: GM Doug Melvin said it's still a "long shot" that Gallardo returns this year, and if he does, it will be relief.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 7/27, 10:26 AM CT
Yovani Gallardo, who is recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee, has started throwing off flat ground, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: There remains no set date for him to begin throwing off a mound, but he remains on schedule in his program of physical therapy. There remains a chance that Gallardo will be able to pitch again in September, though he might be limited to relief work as a precaution against overuse.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 7/9, 10:28 AM CT
Yovani Gallardo, who underwent knee surgery in May, said he is still hoping to return to the Brewers in September, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He said, "I would like to pitch before the end of the year. That’s what I’m shooting for. If I’m not ready, it’s not worth taking the risk. But everything’s going good."

Our View: He has not begun to throw yet but is making nice progress in the rehabilitation program on the knee. The Brewers could have a strong trio with Ben Sheets, CC Sabathia, and Gallardo, which would help in their bid to make the postseason.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 5/13, 7:17 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo underwent successful knee surgery on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. "[Dr. William Raasch] said it was very, very straightforward," Brewers assistant GM Gord Ash said. "It went very well."

Our View: Gallardo said that he hopes to return late in the year, but that's sheer folly. Plan on Gallardo being back for the start of the 2009 season ready to fulfill his promise.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 5/11, 2:15 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Our View: Gallardo's season is presumably over, and the Brewers now have two parts of their rotation (Chris Capuano) gone for the year. Yovani still has excellent value in keeper leagues.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 5/2, 1:51 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo appeared to have escaped serious injury in a collision at first base in Thursday's game, as he was able to stay in the game. It turns out that's not the case, as an exam Friday morning revealed Gallardo suffered a torn ACL, an injury that could sideline the hurler for the rest of the season, according to MLB.com. No decision will be made on surgery until the swelling subsides. He has been placed on the DL, with Dave Bush replacing him on the roster.

Our View: What a huge blow to the Brewers and fantasy owners alike. Bush will replace Gallardo in the rotation.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 5/1, 4:30 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo had another solid outing on Thursday as he allowed three runs in six innings to the Cubs. Gallardo permitted nine hits and a walk while striking out four batters.

Our View: This was his worst performance in three outings, but it still qualifies as a quality start. Gallardo has rebounded very well from his knee injury and appears good to go as a potential fantasy ace.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 5/1, 12:58 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo is set to make his third start of the season today when the Brewers battle the Cubs in Chicago, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Gallardo has two no decisions so far, but it is due to poor run support. He has been pitching very well since his return to the rotation, as he only allowed one run over 14 innings, with nine strikeouts. Gallardo holds a 0.64 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, and he was worth the wait this season.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 4/25, 11:25 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo, who made his season debut Sunday at Cincinnati after being on the disabled list because of a torn meniscus in his left knee, got his second no decision as the Brewers fell to the Marlins 3-0 on Friday night. The right-hander allowed six hits in seven innings to go with five strikeouts and two walks.

Our View: Gallardo got Florida to strand runners in scoring position three consecutive innings, including the fifth with the bases loaded. This is a strong effort considering the right-hander threw over 100 pitches in his debut last week. He should be considered a starting option in all formats.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 4/25, 3:33 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo will make his second start of the season tonight against Florida, according to MLB.com. Gallardo fared well in his first start back from knee surgery, as he only allowed one run on four hits over seven innings, with four strikeouts (he was dealt a no decision).

Our View: He threw 112 pitches in his last start, but shouldn't be held out of your lineups. The game will be at home at Miller Park, where Gallardo went 5-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 2007.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 4/20, 11:12 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo, who was activated off the disabled list before Sunday's game, allowed only four hits through eight innings of work. Gallardo proved he is fit and ready to resume his starting role by throwing 112 pitches in a no-decision.

Our View: The 112 pitches may end up costing the Brewers. Pitchers coming off the disabled list, who throw more than 100 pitches in the first start back, typically struggle in their second start. The right-hander is scheduled to start in a favorable Friday matchup against Florida.

Yovani Gallardo has been activated from the DL and will start on Sunday against the Reds, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He is also projected to bat eighth, rather than ninth in the order.

Our View: This is good news, and his fantasy stock will go back up with a favorable outing.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 4/19, 7:41 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo may or may not start on Sunday as the Brewers still haven't announced who will be on the hill to face the Reds, this according to MLB.com. "We're not prepared to say," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. "We'll meet and decide what our options are."

Our View: David Bush should be the starter as he is on normal rest, but he has been brutal this year and Gallardo seems to have overcome his knee issues. We would guess that it's Gallardo who will get the call, but the fact that the team isn't making it official yet is enough for us to pause.
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 4/18, 5:48 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo is just about all the way back from his injured knee, now it's just a matter of the Brewers finding a way to get him back in the starting rotation, this according to MLB.com. It would seem that David Bush is most likely to lose his spot in the rotation, though Manny Parra or Carlos Viallanueva could also be demoted to the pen.

Our View: Whatever decision is made will likely benefit the Brewers as Gallardo is a special talent. You might want to give him a start or two once he is activated, but if you are desperate for pitching help it also wouldn't be crazy to start him right away.

Yovani Gallardo rejoined the Brewers after making his third minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Nashville, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Manager Ned Yost stated that Gallardo would return to the starting rotation at the earliest Sunday in Cincinnati, and added, "He's going in the rotation but I haven't decided where he fits in yet."

Our View: This is good news for the rising star, and his fantasy stock should start to climb back up.

RHP Yovani Gallardo has been sent back to Triple-A Nashville for continued rehabilitation, but the Brewers do not believe his trip south will last long, according to MLB.com. “He’ll pitch a rehab start [on Monday], and then he’ll move into our rotation,” said Milwaukee manager Ned Yost.

Our View: According to the tentative pitching schedule for the Brewers, Gallardo could be on the mound as early as Sunday, April 20. Ben Sheets and Jeff Suppan are penciled into starts that open a series in Cincinnati next weekend and Gallardo could be available for that third game. However, the team may elect to hold Gallardo for the following series against the Cardinals, taking Carlos Villanueva or Manny Parra out of their scheduled spots.

Yovani Gallardo was pulled from his scheduled rehab start on Wednesday night due to poor weather conditions, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. But that does not mean that his next start will be for the Brewers. With a forecast of poor weather projected for this weekend in New York, the Brewers want Gallardo on hand, should a starter's outing get washed out. Manager Yost commented, "When we go to New York, there could be weather issues. If we lose a starter, if guys get backed up, this gives us the option to have a guy that will be available." If the Brewers can get through the weekend without weather-related issues, Yost noted that it's not beyond belief that Gallardo would be sent back to Triple-A Nashville for a third start, and added, "He absolutely could. He's coming up but we'll make the determination in New York." If the Brewers decide to activate Gallardo, a pitcher will likely have to be removed from the roster. As of now, he is scheduled on the same day as Dave Bush, who took his second turn in the rotation Wednesday night against Cincinnati.

Yovani Gallardo will undergo left knee surgery on Monday and miss four weeks, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports. He has a lateral meniscus tear and will likely open the season on the disabled list. This news obviously doesn't help Gallardo, but it's also not crushing to his fantasy value. If his rehab goes as planned, Gallardo could still make 30 starts this season and be a huge help to fantasy teams.

If Yovani Gallardo stays, he probably will be used in long relief, despite the fact that the rookie has been sharp in all three of his turns. "He could be 3-0," Yost said. "He has great makeup and composure."
Yovani Gallardo, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 6/26, 9:22 AM CT
The Brewers are thinking about keeping Yovani Gallardo in the majors but moving him to the bullpen. They need to open up a rotation spot when Chris Capuano comes off the DL next week. "If we had our druthers, we'd rather have (Gallardo) be a starter," manager Ned Yost tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "But, then again, there's some conventional wisdom behind the fact that if we keep Gallardo up here and use him as a long (reliever), limit his innings through July and August, if anything happened, we'd have a quality starter ready to step in."

Gallardo is 8-3 with a 2.93 ERA and 110 strikeouts over 77.2 innings at Triple-A Nashville. He is worth grabbing in any type of fantasy league, even though his starting status and the length of his stay are still unclear. He's too much of a stud to not take a chance on.
