Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 10/2, 3:43 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes will miss the final three games of the season due to a broken left big toe, according to Reds' beat writer Mark Sheldon.

Our View: With the Reds long since eliminated from playoff contention, this injury shouldn't be a big deal. The big veteran reliever should be fine for next spring, but you won't see him on the mound again this season.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 12/11, 11:23 AM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicates that the Reds reached a preliminary deal with Arthur Rhodes. It is believed to be a two-year deal for $4 million.

Our View: Rhodes is 39, but should help ease the loss of Jeremy Affeldt next season, as he held a solid 1.25 WHIP over 35.1 innings of relief in 2008.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 12/10, 8:02 AM CT
The Diamondbacks have reportedly made a contract offer to free agent reliever Arthur Rhodes, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: It is unknown what the Diamondbacks' offered him, and the Reds are among the three finalists to land him. Arizona will likely need to replace Juan Cruz and Brandon Lyon from their bullpen.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 12/8, 7:03 AM CT
The Diamondbacks are interested in reliever Arthur Rhodes, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Rhodes would be a favorable addition to the Diamondbacks' bullpen, as he fired 40 strikeouts over 35.1 innings in 2008, with a 1.25 WHIP. The club also likes Joe Beimel, as previously stated.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 12/7, 6:52 PM CT
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes is leaning towards signing with the Reds.

Our View: The Cardinals are also in hot pursuit of Rhodes. He had a 2.04 ERA in 35.1 innings a season ago.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 12/2, 9:38 AM CT
The Reds have made an offer to lefty reliever Arthur Rhodes, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Reds are looking to replace Jeremy Affeldt, who inked with the Giants. The 39-year-old Rhodes maintained a solid 1.25 WHIP over 35.1 innings of relief with the Mariners and Marlins in 2008.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 11/25, 9:18 AM CT
The Cardinals have made an offer to lefty-reliever Arthur Rhodes, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Details regarding the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: The Cardinals are one of nine teams interested in the 39-year-old. The club still needs a closer, but Rhodes would be a favorable addition to the pen for the innings leading up to the ninth, as he maintained a 1.25 WHIP over 35.1 innings in 2008.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 11/18, 7:01 AM CT
The Cardinals covet lefty relievers and Arthur Rhodes is on their radar, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. GM John Mozeliak said, "The ball is rolling. Lefthanded relief is a market that will move quickly. It's kind of like the draft, where catchers go fast. There is a limited supply and they typically don't last until January."

Our View: The Cardinals were interested in Jeremy Affeldt but he signed with the Giants. The Cardinals also remain interested in Will Ohman, who received an offer from the Braves Monday. Rhodes is 39, but maintained a solid 1.25 WHIP over 35.1 innings in 2008.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 11/1, 7:14 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes has entered free agency, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He is 39 years old, but should garner interest from a few MLB clubs, as he held a solid 2.04 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 35.1 innings of relief in 2008, with 40 strikeouts.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 9/14, 3:25 PM CT
Rhodes picked up the save for the Marlins on Sunday with Matt Lindstrom unavailable after being used in consecutive days.

Our View: Former closer Kevin Gregg was given a chance to get the last out, but he gave up a hit. Rhodes seems unlikely to get another save opportunity this season, however.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/31, 9:54 AM CT
The Marlins have acquired veteran lefty Arthur Rhodes from the Mariners in exchange for minor league pitcher Gaby Hernandez, according to ESPN's Peter Gammons.

Our View: Not a bad deal for the M's. Hernandez is just 22 and has good upside.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/30, 10:44 AM CT
The Marlins are reportedly close to a deal to acquire Arthur Rhodes from the Mariners, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: The Mariners are only believed to be looking for a midlevel minor league prospect in return. The 37-year-old Rhodes has held up pretty well this season, as he only allowed six earned runs over 21.1 innings, with 26 strikeouts and a 1.27 WHIP. He has also been scoreless in eighteen straight appearances dating back to the start of June.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 6/23, 9:26 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes nailed down the Mariners' 5-2 win over the Mets Monday, retiring Carlos Delgado and Damion Easley via the strikeout.

Our View: Sean Green started the inning but left after allowing a run on two hits and a walk. Brandon Morrow is due back tomorrow, but it's possible this successful appearance could make Rhodes third in line for saves behind Morrow and the injured J.J. Putz.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/15, 9:49 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes , who had ligament replacement surgery last May, made his first appearance since Sept. 9, 2006, when he was with Philadelphia. The Mariners' 38-year-old left-hander recorded an out but gave up two hits in the stint.

Our View: Rhodes has no fantasy worth outside of deep AL-only formats that start middle relievers, and even then his value is low.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 4/14, 5:28 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes is back in the majors. The veteran reliever missed all of 2007 following Tommy John surgery, but the Mariners called him up on Monday, the AP reports.

Our View: Rhodes is a journeyman southpaw who had his best seasons with the Mariners in 2001 and 2002. We don't expect him to be worth owning in any fantasy leagues, including AL-only formats.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/27, 10:07 AM CT
The Mariners coaching staff has decided they will not keep any pitchers that can not pitch in back-to-back games, thus Arthur Rhodes was sent to the minor league, according to Seattle PI. Rhodes (elbow ligament replacement surgery) is nearly fully recovered from his surgery, but needs more conditioning. Rhodes agreed to be sent down and will attempt to work his way back up.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/20, 8:26 AM CT
Arthur Rhodes was roughed up in minor league action (Class AA) on Wednesday, according to the Seattle Times. Rhodes allowed five runs on five hits and two walks in a mere two innings of work while pitching for Tacoma. Rhodes was fighting for a spot on the roster as a situational left hander this season.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 3/11, 6:37 PM CT
The Mariners are hoping left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes can return to action against the Brewers in the team's next Cactus League battle, according to MLB.com. Rhodes is attempting to return from Tommy John elbow surgery (ligament transfer) but seems to be a bit of a long shot to make the major league bullpen. The Mariners are reportedly planning to keep just two situational lefty options on hand and, as we sit, Rhodes is on the outside of that group looking in. He'll get a chance to prove his worth and could change expectations, but in terms of fantasy value, Rhodes is nothing more than a major gamble (at best) at this point.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 2/17, 6:45 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes, who had TJ surgery and sat out all of the 2007 season, is ready to resume his major league career with the Mariners this season. "I just told myself in the off-season, 'Hey, you've got a new arm now, a new elbow. Just go out there and show them you can still pitch," according to a report in the AP. The team may only keep two situational lefties meaning that Rhodes may face an uphill battle to make the team out of camp, but even if he does he has virtually no fantasy value.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 1/16, 10:13 AM CT
The Mariners signed Arthur Rhodes to a minor-league deal Tuesday. Rhodes missed all of the 2007 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He'll compete for a bullpen job in spring training.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 10/9, 10:57 AM CT

Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 4/27, 9:32 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes will miss the entire season after deciding to have surgery on his pitching elbow, according to the AP. He will have Tommy John surgery on May 2 in California. Rhodes opted for surgery after meeting with Dr. Lewis Yocum last week when the Mariners were in Southern California playing the Angels.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 4/15, 7:05 AM CT
Arthur Rhodes visited with Mariners trainer Rick Griffin on Friday and is expected to seek a second opinion on whether he will require elbow surgery, according to the Seattle Times. Rhodes has a torn ligament in the joint and may need Tommy John surgery.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/11, 9:43 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes has a torn ligament in his pitching elbow and is considering Tommy John surgery, which would sideline him for the rest of the year, according to the AP. Rhodes could also choose to pitch with the tear, which would obviously be risky. He is expected to get a second opinion. "It's not good news," manager Mike Hargrove said. "We feel like we've got people that can come in and fill in for him. It makes it tough, but we've got capable people."
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/10, 11:51 AM CT
The Mariners placed Arthur Rhodes on the disabled list Tuesday with inflammation in his pitching elbow, according to the AP. The move is retroactive to April 4. Rhodes made the club as a non-roster player after posting a 2.57 ERA in eight appearances this spring.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 3/21, 10:26 AM CT
Arthur Rhodes has a stiff elbow but it's not considered serious, the Seattle Times reports. Rhodes, who had a long-toss session with J.J. Putz Tuesday, might be ready to pitch in a day or two.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 1/26, 2:32 AM CT
Arthur Rhodes agreed Thursday to a minor league contract with the Mariners which included an invitation to spring training, according to the AP. "We fully expect him to be on the club. If his stuff was the same as it was last year, he'll be more than fine here," said Mariners GM Bill Bavasi. Rhodes will likely fill a variety of bullpen roles, from middle and long relief to setting up closer J.J. Putz.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 9/14, 7:59 AM CT
Arthur Rhodes will have his ailing left elbow examined by Phillies physician Michael Ciccotti on Monday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. It's believed that he has a small tear in the flexor tendon in his left elbow, which likely has ended his season.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/12, 9:06 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes had an MRI on Monday that showed a small tear in the flexor tendon of his left elbow but no structural damage to the ligament, according to the AP. His season is likely over.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 9/11, 8:08 AM CT
On his final pitch Saturday, Arthur Rhodes strained a tendon and sprained a ligament in his pitching elbow, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He returned to Philadelphia yesterday for more tests, which could include an MRI today. He's expected to miss a significant amount of time, so his season likely is over.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/21, 11:49 PM CT
Arthur Rhodes will take over the closer's duties temporarily after Tom Gordon was placed on the DL Monday night, according to the AP. Gordon should be able to resume pitching on Monday, so Rhodes will only be needed to close games for a week.
Arthur Rhodes, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/15, 9:40 AM CT
Arthur Rhodes is expected to be the Phillies closer while Tom Gordon is out, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. Gordon will be out a few days while he rests a sore shoulder, and he could be out longer than that, depending on what shows up on the MRI he is having today. Ryan Madson could also be used in the ninth inning in the right situation.
