Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 1/19, 8:23 PM CT
Jason Bergmann has avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $750,000 deal for 2010, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The righty reliever posted a 4.50 ERA in 48 innings in 2009. He can safely be ignored in all leagues with middle relievers and holds.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSunday 7/5, 5:26 PM CT
Jason Bergmann has been recalled by the Nationals from Triple-A Syracuse, according to TSN. Pitcher Jesus Colome was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.

Our View: He was brought in to work out of the bullpen and not in the rotation, and his fantasy value is limited to NL-only leagues that feature middle men. He holds a poor 6.91 ERA over 14.1 innings this season.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/16, 1:57 PM CT
According to the Miami Herald, the Nationals have optioned pitcher Jason Bergmann to Triple-A Syracuse to make room for the activation of Kip Wells. Bergmann is 0-1 with a 6.91 ERA in 14 games with the Nats this season.

Our View: Bergmann held no fantasy value as a below-average middle reliever, so this move should not send fantasy owners rushing to the waiver wire. Bergmann has never been great as a major leaguer, and he is not worth fantasy consideration in any league.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/20, 7:18 AM CT
Jason Bergmann has been recalled by the Nationals from Triple-A Syracuse, according to the Associated Press. Alex Cintron was designated for assignment as the corresponding move.

Our View: Bergmann holds a career 5.02 ERA in the majors, and the 27-year-old reliever does not merit fantasy consideration, especially with the struggling Nationals.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/29, 3:08 PM CT
The Nationals optioned reliever Jason Bergmann down to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Our View: The Nationals acquired reliever Logan Kensing from the Marlins, and he will take Bergmann's spot. Given the musical chairs in that bullpen, Bergmann can expect to move between D.C. and Syracuse about six more times this season.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSunday 4/19, 10:03 PM CT
Jason Bergmann has been recalled by the Nationals according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Bergmann has bounced back and forth from the starting rotation to the bullpen, but he appears destined for a relief job for now. He holds some potential but it's uncertain what his role will be at this point.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/4, 5:56 PM CT
Jason Bergmann has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse by the Nationals, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The 27-year-old hurler holds a 5.04 ERA over 339.1 career innings pitched in the majors, and does not merit fantasy attention while working on his skills in the minors.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsMonday 3/30, 4:12 PM CT
Jason Bergmann tossed another perfect inning in Monday's 3-2 loss to Detroit. He has yet to allow an run in 10.1 innings of relief this spring.

Our View: If Joel Hanrahan id not 100 percent come opening day, there's a chance Bergmann will start the year as the team's closer. He made 22 starts a season ago, but has been used exclusively in relief this spring.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 9/6, 5:26 PM CT
The AP reports that the Nationals have pulled Jason Bergmann from the rotation. Bergmann (2-11) is 1-10 in his last 20 games after giving up seven runs in 2.1 innings of Friday night’s 10-5 loss to the Braves.

Our View: Shairon Martis will replace him in the rotation. Manager Manny Acta said the move to leave Martis in the rotation will “give us an opportunity to see the young man and get a better picture for what we’re getting next year.”
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/19, 9:11 PM CT
The pitching in Washington has been nothing short of suspect this season, but RHP Jason Bergmann provided a bit of optimism this evening though his team fell 5-4 to Philadelphia. Bergmann pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: While his control has been all over the map, Bergmann is starting to show a bit of promise. His team failed to get the offense going to secure the win, but two strong outings in his last three starts could be the start of better returns.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/13, 9:12 PM CT
Jason Bergmann was crushed by the New York Mets, pitching just three innings and allowing 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits and six walks in the Mets 12-0 demolition of Washington.

Our View: Bergmann hasn't pitched too bad this season, but this was a dreadful performance. His two wins make him ineligible for consideration in fantasy leagues of any format.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/9, 10:30 AM CT
Washington Nationals hurler Jason Bergmann has pitched well enough that the team has plans to use him in the rotation in the future, according to the Washington Post. "He continues to do it for us, so he can pencil himself in here for the future," Nats manager Manny Acta said.

Our View: Don't let his miserable 2-8 record fool you. Bergmann has been better than that, and sports a 4.13 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP. He shows good control, having walked just 27 batters in 106.2 innings. Unfortunately, his record does mean that he isn't up to snuff in fantasy leagues.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsThursday 8/7, 4:54 PM CT
Jason Bergmann was not as bad as his 1-8 record had made him look, and he proved that tonight with a solid seven inning performance. He surrendered just one run on seven hits while striking out seven against the Rockies.

Our View: Bergmann has been a victim of the Nats horrendous offense, as he now sports a 4.13 ERA on the year. He doesn't belong in fantasy leagues because Washington won't score for him, but it's yet another reminder of how overrated wins and losses are as a statistic for pitchers.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSunday 7/27, 8:55 PM CT
Jason Bergmann allowed two runs and six hits over six innings, struck out five and walked three on Sunday against the Dodgers. The right-hander is 0-7 with a 3.24 ERA in 12 starts since beating the New York Mets 7-0 on May 15 at Shea Stadium with.

Our View: Like many National pitchers, Bergman just cannot get any run support. His stuff is not bad and he could be relevant with a different team. He has lost his last six starts on the road, but refuses to get getting discouraged about his record. "There's no other way to go about it," Bergmann said. "You can't get down on yourself, your teammates or anybody else, for that matter. ... I'm not going to be a selfish guy and say I wish I could be winning more. My mindset is just to try to do my best to keep the team in the game and try to get wins."
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/10, 10:27 PM CT
Jason Bergmann hurled seven innings in which he allowed two runs to the D'backs in an 11 inning, 7-5 loss to the Nationals.

Our View: Bergmann is but 1-6 on the year despite solid ratios (4.02 ERA and 1.29 WHIP), but that happens when you don't get a lot of run support. Bergmann has only walked 19 batters in 13 appearances, and with control like that, he will continue to have a chance at success.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsFriday 7/4, 4:45 PM CT
Jason Bergmann allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings in Friday's 3-0 shutout loss to the Reds, with three walks and five strikeouts. Both earned runs came on a Ken Griffey Jr. two-run homer.

Our View: Bergmann falls to 1-6, and hasn't won a decision since May 15, when he fired seven scoreless innnings against the Mets.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSunday 6/29, 4:34 PM CT
The good version of Jason Bergmann took the hill on Sunday and held the Orioles to six hits and one run over seven innings. Bergmann walked one, struck out three, and took a no-decision. It was his third straight outing with only one earned run allowed.

Our View: Bergmann seems to be either outstanding or awful every time he takes the mound. There's no in between. He has a bright future if he can figure out how to work more consistently. Fantasy owners should be wary until we see a more extended run of success.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsMonday 6/23, 10:15 PM CT
Jason Bergmann allowed only one run on six hits while striking out six over seven innings Monday, but the Nats bullpen couldn't get him a win in a 3-2 loss to the Angels.

Our View: Bergmann has been hit-or-miss this year, but he's hit on his last two starts, allowing just one run in each, though he's lost both.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/18, 10:20 PM CT
Jason Bergmann allowed only one earned run on five hits, walked three and struck out two in his fifth loss of the season. It was a strong effort and could be containered as a bounce back after scuffling in his last two starts.

Our View: Bergman had allowed nine runs on 18 hits over 7.2 innings in his previous two outings.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsThursday 6/12, 3:36 PM CT
Jason Bergmann allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits over 4.1 innings in Thursday's 7-5 loss to the Pirates, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View: He falls to 1-4 for the season, with a 5.48 ERA. He has now allowed at least four earned runs in three straight starts, after allowing no runs over a three-start stretch in May.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSunday 6/1, 8:35 PM CT
Jason Bergmann's eight-inning complete game on Saturday night was the Nationals' first since Aug. 15, 2006, this according to the AP. The 261 games between complete games was the major leagues' longest drought.

Our View: Bergmann has been terrific since being called up and despite his loss on Saturday, he is a must start regardless of opponent in all formats.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/31, 11:29 AM CT
The Washington Nationals will send what may be their hottest arm to the mound this evening as they face off against the Arizona Diamondbacks, tabbing RHP Jason Bergmann as the starter for the evening, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Bermann is riding 19 2/3 innings of consecutive shutout pitching coming into tonight's battle, including an eight-strikeout performance against the Milwaukee Brewers in his last outing. He walked off with no decision, but clearly the 26-year-old hurler is on top of his game and giving Washington a chance to compete.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsMonday 5/26, 4:48 PM CT
Jason Bergmann was stellar in his third straight start since being recalled from Triple-A. The right-hander shut out the Brewers for 5.2 innings before being subject to poor defense. Bergman allowed four hits, a walk and struck out eight on the day.

Our View: Bergmann has thrown 19.2 innings without allowing an earned run since returning to the parent club. Many considered his two-start Fantasy Week 8 an iffy proposition, but after his performance against the Brewers today he's a must start in all formats.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/20, 8:54 PM CT
It was a pitcher's duel as the Phillies traveled to Washington to face the Nationals, and it was the home-town team taking the loss, 1-0, despite a valiant effort from RHP Jason Bergmann . Bergmann pitched seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing just five hits (just one for extra bases) with three walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Bergmann walked away with no decision and lowered his ERA to 5.47, posting his second consecutive seven-inning outing on the mound.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsThursday 5/15, 2:55 PM CT
Jason Bergmann picked up his first win of the season on Thursday, as the Nationals edged the Mets 1-0. Bergmann threw seven scoreless innings, with only three hits allowed and two walks, with nine strikeouts.

Our View: Bergmann pitched well when healthy last season, and is worth targeting following today's strong outing. He should be a hot waiver wire pick-up this week.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/14, 8:02 AM CT
Jason Bergmann will be called up to start on Wednesday against the Mets, the Washington Post confirms. The right-hander is 2-2 with a 3.72 ERA over five starts at Triple-A Columbus.

Our View: Bergmann pitched well when healthy for the Nats last year, and NL-only fantasy owners should keep a close eye on him. If he looks good on Wednesday, we'd feel safe picking him up in those leagues.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/7, 12:25 PM CT
Right-hander Jason Bergmann was named the International League pitcher of the week for his two starts at Triple-A Columbus in which he allowed no earned runs in 14 innings, posting two wins.

Our View: Bergmann's performance could turn into a spot in the Washington rotation, where Matt Chico (0-5, 6.87 ERA) is set to start Friday against Florida, potentially his last depending on his performance.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsSunday 5/4, 6:51 PM CT
Jason Bergmann threw six scoreless innings to improve his record to 2-2 for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He allowed three hits, two walks and struck out five.

Our View: Bergmann was awful for the Nationals earlier this season, but he is making progress in the minors with two outstanding starts in a row. We probably have not seen the last of him in the majors and on NL-only rosters this season.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsFriday 4/18, 11:41 PM CT
Jason Bergmann allowed four runs on six hits in three innings to earn the loss in his first Triple-A start since being demoted from Washington.

Our View: He struggled against a decent Durham lineup, but this is still a bad sign. The Nationals had reason to demote him, and it does not look like he will be making his way back anytime soon.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/10, 12:30 PM CT
Jason Bergmann could be moved to the Nats' bullpen when Shawn Hill returns from the DL, according to the Washington Times. He is off to a poor start with a an 0-1 record and a 10.45 ERA over 10.1 innings, and his starting job could be in jeopardy if he doesn't turn it around soon. Other candidates to lose their jobs in the rotation when Hill comes back are lefties Matt Chico and John Lannan.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/9, 9:50 PM CT
Jason Bergmann was good on Wednesday night, but only for four innings, as the Marlins moved into first place in the NL East with a 10-4 win over the Nationals. The first pitch Bergmann threw in the fifth was line shot in the left-field stands by Jorge Cantu, and the rest was uglier. The Nats' right-hander left the game after giving up seven runs on nine hits over five innings of work. He struck out four and walked one in the losing effort.
Jason Bergmann, P, Washington NationalsThursday 2/28, 5:57 PM CT
Jason Bergmann pitched two hitless innings and Georgetown on Thursday in the Nationals 15-0 victory, according to the AP. “You can’t approach it like this is Georgetown—they’re not good—because there are quality players getting drafted out of high school every day the same age as these guys,” Bergmann said. For one day the Nationals were good. Last season Bergman was a fairly average hurler with 86 K and 42 BB in 115.1 innings, but he allowed less than eight hits per nine innings and posted a 1.22 WHIP, so he does have some potential to be a bottom tier starter this year.
