Our View: The deal also includes an invite to spring training for the lefty. He could compete for a role in middle relief.

Our View: He is done for the year. He hadn't pitched since September 4. In 28.1 innings this season, he compiled a 5.08 ERA.

According to the Twitter page of Phillies' beat writer Todd Zolecki, the Phillies have designated pitcher Jack Taschner for assignment. This move was made to make room for Friday's starter Rodrigo Lopez.

Our View: Taschner was acquired by the Phils in late March, and he didn't show enough to force the team to value him as a solid relief option. He should not be considered in any league regardless of where he ends up.

Our View: There's no reason to know Taschner in fantasy circles. The 30-year-old lefty reliever went 3-2 with a 4.88 ERA in a career-high 67 innings last season and owns a 5.01 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over his four-year career.

Our View: Taschner held a poor 1.69 WHIP over 48 innings of relief last season, and should not be considered in fantasy leagues for 2009.

The Giants recalled Jack Taschner from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday, according to the AP. Taschner, who is 6-7 with 13 saves and a 3.72 ERA for Fresno, allowed 12 runs (11 earned) in 4 1/3 innings with the Giants earlier this season.
