Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsMonday 2/8, 7:03 PM CT
Skip Schumaker has agreed to a two-year deal with the Cardinals to avoid arbitration, according to team beat writer Matthew Leach's twitter page. It is believed to be worth $4.7MM.

Our View: Schumaker is batting .307 over his last three seasons in St. Louis, and scored 172 total runs over his last two. The 29-year-old middle infielder was worth retaining for another two years.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 1/19, 5:28 PM CT
Skip Schumaker has requested $2.75 million in arbitration, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Cardinals have offered him $1.45 million.

Our View: The Cards offer is absurdly low, and Skip should end up with a figure much closer to the one he's proposed after hitting .303 with 85 runs scored in 2009. An agreement between the two sides is believed to be close.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 1/17, 8:07 PM CT
Skip Schumaker is believed to be close to receiving a new 2010 contract from the Cardinals, according to Matthew Leach of MLB.com.

Our View: Schumaker is already under control for the upcoming season, and it is just a matter of money to avoid arbitration.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 12/8, 8:06 PM CT
According to Matthew Leach on Twitter, the Cardinals have no plans to move Skip Schumaker from second base.

Our View: Skip progressed incredibly well at the position as the season went on, and the Cards would be foolish to move him after his positive strides. This news also bodes well for his fantasy status, as his .303/.364/.393 line is much more valuable as a second sacker than an outfielder.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 10/8, 2:13 PM CT
Skip Schumaker is not in the Cardinal lineup for their all-important Game 2 contest with the Dodgers on Thursday. Schumaker will re replaced by Julio Lugo at second base.

Our View: Tough call here by manager Tony La Russa, as Skip went 2-for-3 with a walk in last night's game and has been one of the most consistent hitters for the team all season. There was some talk that he might move to center field for today's game, but La Russa decided to stick with rookie Colby Rasmus in the outfield.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 10/8, 12:33 AM CT
Skip Schumaker was the biggest offensive weapon for the Cardinals on Wednesday, but he couldn't do it all. His 2-for-3 effort that included a walk, an RBI and a run scored wasn't enough as the Cards fell to the Dodgers 5-3 in the NLDS opener.

Our View: Schumaker has been invaluable to the Cardinals this season and looks to have carried his consistent bat into the postseason. Expect him to continue to produce and, if the rest of the Cardinal bats wake up, his efforts will pay dividends.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 9/2, 10:32 PM CT
Skip Schumaker went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in the Cardinals 10-3 blowout of the Brewers on Wednesday.

Our View: Schumaker leads the Cardinals in three-hit games this season with 12 and now has his average up to .301 this season. He's a fine NL-only option for runs and average.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 8/9, 3:30 PM CT
Skip Schumaker's two run eighth inning home run to make it 4-3 proved to be the difference on Sunday, as the Cardinals beat the Pirates 7-3 to sweep the teams' three game series.

Our View: The long ball was Skip's first since May 23. Expect plenty of hits and average if you play him in NL-only leagues (111 and .294, respectively), just not any power (four home runs).
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/2, 9:00 PM CT
Skip Schumaker went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on Thursday as the Cardinals beat the Giants 5-2.

Our View: Skip has quietly put together a solid 2009 season, batting .293 with 80 hits and 44 runs scored. He is an acceptable option at second base in deeper mixed or NL-only leagues if you are thin there.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 6/27, 3:33 PM CT
Skip Schumaker was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the Cardinals' 5-3 win over the Twins on Saturday.

Our View: The Cardinal leadoff man did his job and got on base in front of Albert Pujols and scored on both of his two-run shots. Skip has his average up to .302 on the season and is getting on base at nearly a .360 clip.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 6/24, 9:27 PM CT
Skip Schumaker went 1-for-2 with a single in Wednesday's 11-0 loss at the Mets. He also drew two walks.

Our View: The Cardinals only mustered four hits in the game. Schumaker extended his hitting streak to nine games, and holds a .300 batting average for the season.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/23, 9:34 PM CT
Skip Schumaker went 2-for-3 on Tuesday, extending his hitting streak to eight games as the Cardinals and Joel Pineiro shutout the Mets 3-0 at Citi Field.

Our View: Skip upped his average to .299 in the process, and now has 72 hits in 71 games. If you are desperate for average or hits, he could be worth a look as a third or fourth outfielder in deeper leagues.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 6/16, 10:22 PM CT
Skip Schumaker had his first three-hit game since May 30 on Tuesday as the Cardinals routed the Tigers 11-2 in St. Louis.

Our View: Schumaker still only remains an option in deeper mixed leagues or NL only leagues.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 5/23, 2:58 PM CT
Skip Schumaker went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in Saturday's 5-0 win over Kansas City at Busch Stadium. His other knock was a single.

Our View: Schumaker has homered in two of his last six games, and raised his season average to .297. He only has three homers over 138 at-bats.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 5/13, 9:16 PM CT
Skip Schumaker launched his first home run of the season on Wenesday, but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals lost to the Pirates 5-2. Schumaker finished the game 2-for-4 with the homer, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Our View: After a slow start, Skip has picked it up as of late. He is now hitting over .300, but his lack of power hurts his fantasy value. He should score runs hitting at the top of the Cardinals' order, and he has value in NL-only leagues at second base.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/7, 7:35 AM CT
Skip Schumaker is likely to start at second base in tonight's game against the Pirates after skipper Tony LaRussa went with Brendan Ryan at the position in Monday's season opener, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Schumaker has been assured by LaRussa that he will be the No. 1 second baseman this season. He is worth using in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 3/31, 8:03 AM CT
Skip Schumaker will serve as the Cardinals' primary second baseman this season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Skipper Tony LaRussa said, "I think when you look at his improvement, I think he has been remarkable."

Our View: Schumaker won't be a viable source for speed or power but should at least hit for a solid average, and is worth a look as a sleeper for NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 3/17, 6:31 PM CT
Skip Schumaker has improved his defense at second enough that he is expected to stick at the position at least at the beginning of the year, according to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Strauss also notes that the team could still eventually pull the plug on the experiment, but for now the Cards are willing to live with Schumaker's defense to get his bat into the lineup. Skip will surely be pulled for a defensive sub late in games this year.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 3/14, 3:06 PM CT
Skip Schumaker went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Saturday's 2-1 win over Atlanta in the Grapefruit League. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View: He is hitting .333 in spring action, and remains worth a look as a flier for NL-only leagues. He started at second base, and the club is yet to move him back to the outfield.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 3/12, 12:44 PM CT
St. Louis Post-Dispatch Cardinals beat writer Joe Strauss has said on 1380 AM that the plug could be pulled soon on the Skip Schumaker at second base experiment. Schumaker, who has four errors in 10 spring games, is playing DH today, while Joe Thurston is getting the start at second.

Our View: Strauss also added that Thurston and Brendan Ryan would be first in line at second if Schumaker officially goes back to the outfield, but that the team could also pursue a trade. The team is not expected to pursue a free agent such as Mark Grudzielanek or Ray Durham.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 3/11, 5:57 PM CT
Skip Schumaker made his fourth error in 10 games on Wednesday, according to the AP. The Cardinals are attempting to convert the outfielder to a second baseman.

Our View: The experiment is not going very well at the moment. There have been indications that he could have more errors in camp if not for some generous scoring. Still, Schumaker is hitting .333 in 27 at bats. Even if he moves back into the outfield, he is still expected to hit leadoff most games for the Cardinals this season.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 2/28, 7:03 PM CT
Skip Schumaker played well for the Cardinals on Saturday, going 1-for-2 with two walks. His hit was a double and he also came around to score one run.

Our View: Schumaker is attempting to make the club as St. Louis' starting second baseman. His offense doesn't appear to be an issue, but his defense could be as he's only been an outfielder It would certainly help the Cards if he could make it as an infielder as they already have a surplus of talent in the outfield.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 2/25, 4:06 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Skip Schumaker was impressive in his first start at second base as the Cardinals tied the Marlins 5-5 on Wednesday. He was 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Our View: Schumaker will get a lot of work at second this spring and it seems likely that he will win the job before opening day. The Cards need his bat in the lineup. Expect him to bat leadoff again this season, and he should make a good run at hitting over .300 for the third straight season.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 2/25, 8:15 AM CT
Skip Schumaker is set to make his debut at second base today against the Marlins in the Grapefruit League opener, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Schumaker has decent speed and power, and could hit for a solid average. He would be worth a look in NL-only leagues if he nails down the starting gig at second. He has less of a shot to start in their crowded outfield.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 2/5, 4:49 PM CT
Skip Schumaker will be working in at second base for much of spring training, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Schumaker had a good year in 2008, hitting .302 and a .359 OBP in 153 games in the outfield. That Cardinal outfield is now crowded and the club wants to utilize his skills anyway they can. With Adam Kennedy the only real option at second base, this could be a good fit for Schumaker.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 1/21, 3:00 PM CT
It is possible that Cardinals outfielder Skip Schumaker will get a look at second base in the spring, team GM John Mozeliak said in his online chat at STLtoday.com.

Our View: Schumaker was drafted as an infielder before making his way to the outfield. The team has Adam Kennedy employed as their second baseman at the moment, but he will offer very little upside compared to Schumaker, who proved to be great against right-handers, hitting .340 with an .861 OPS against them in 2008.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 12/7, 7:30 AM CT
St. Louis outfielder Skip Schumaker could be available in a trade as the team is intent on having Colby Rasmus with the big club, accoridng to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Schumaker gave solid production in his first full year as a starter, hitting .302 with eight home runs and 46 RBI. As it is, he could be useful in NL-only leagues.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 9/21, 6:42 PM CT
Skip Schumaker had three hits on Sunday to push his average to .304. He also scored his 85th run of the season.

Our View: With all the injuries the Cardinals have been hit with this season, Schumaker has stepped into the void and produced an impressive set of numbers given that he had recorded just 255 major league at bats before this season. With Rick Ankiel out, Schumaker will continue to be in the lineup everyday over the final week.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 7/26, 11:23 PM CT
Cardinals outfielder Skip Schumaker went 6-for-7 and scored three runs in St. Louis' 14 inning, 10-8 victory over the Mets. He was the first Cardinal to get six hits in one game since 1935.

Our View: Schumaker raised his average 11 points, to .302 in the game. He won't give you much in the way of power or RBI production, but you could do much worse in NL-only leagues.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 7/24, 11:05 PM CT
Skip Schumaker went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Milwaukee. He also registered a stolen base.

Our View: He has generated multiple hits in four of his last seven games, and raised his average a few more points to .294. Keep him active in your outfield in NL-only leagues while he is hot.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/20, 11:08 PM CT
Skip Schumaker only had one hit in five trips to the plate on Friday night but the one hit was a home run, his fifth of the season, a two run shot off of Tim Wakefield.

Our View: Schumaker has hits in six of the past seven games with three of his five home runs as he continues to reward Tony LaRussa's faith in him.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsFriday 6/13, 11:27 PM CT
Skip Schumaker went 3-for-5 with a home run in the Friday night drubbing 20-2 drubbing at the hands of the Phillies.

Our View: Schumaker raised his average over the .300 mark the home run was his third of the season.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 6/1, 6:15 PM CT
Skip Schumaker drove in a career-high three runs to help the Cardinals to a 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Our View: Schumaker is hitting a solid .289 on the season with 35 runs scored and four stolen bases. However, the Cardinals lead off man will never be mistaken for a five-tool player. The outfielder has only two home runs and 18 RBI in 191 at-bats this season.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 5/21, 10:24 AM CT
Skip Schumaker is battling plantar fasciitis in his left heel, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He was absent from the lineup Tuesday night but said, "The ailment is very, very minor."

Our View: Schumaker is having a solid season as he holds a .286 average over 47 games, with 31 runs scored, and four stolen bases. He only blasted two homers, but has nine doubles and one triple. The ailment is minor, as he stated, and you shouldn't be worried about him or his production.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 4/23, 9:17 PM CT
Skip Schumaker continued his hot start to the year as he went 2-for-5 to up his batting average to .329.

Our View: Schumaker also scored a run in the contest and he now has crossed the player 17 times in 22 games from the top of the Cardinals order. He may be short on power, but if he continues to get on base he will score runs.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 4/12, 1:26 PM CT
Skip Schumaker is expected to bat leadoff today against Giants' righty Matt Cain, according to MLB.com.

Our View: His numbers are looking better now as he holds a .273 average over 33 at-bats, with five walks and only one strikeout.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 4/10, 12:08 AM CT
Skip Schumaker entered the game with a total lack of noteworthy performance on the season, but left the Cardinals’ 6-4 win over Houston with improved numbers and hope for a better tomorrow. Schumaker went 3-for-4 at the plate, hitting his first double of the year and scoring two runs with a walk. Schumaker’s batting average remains a lowly .167, but this may be the start of something more promising.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsTuesday 4/8, 7:18 AM CT
Skip Schumaker has lost his leadoff spot in the Cardinals' batting order, according to MLB.com. He led off the first three games of the season, but failed to register a hit over 14 at-bats, and has notably sat out four straight games against left-handed starting pitchers. His fantasy stock will continue to drop.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 4/2, 10:06 AM CT
Skip Schumaker went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Colorado. He is batting lead-off and will have to be productive quickly if he plans on keeping his spot at the top of the order.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSunday 3/30, 12:30 PM CT
Skip Schumaker has reportedly earned the starting right-field role in the Cardinals lineup, this according to RotoTimes sources. The left-handed hitter is also expected to leadoff. The 28-year-old beat out Brian Barton and Ryan Ludwick for the starting gig. The speedy Schumaker now offers NL-only owners value moving forward if he can remain the everyday outfielder and leadoff hitter.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsThursday 3/6, 7:56 PM CT
Skip Schumaker was impressive on Thursday as he had three hits and scored three runs from the leadoff spot for the Cardinals. Schumaker also threw a runner out on the bases as he continues to impress the Cards front office in his bid to win a large role in the team's outfield plans this season.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 8/1, 9:17 PM CT
The Cardinals optioned Skip Schumaker to Triple-A Memphis Wednesday. Schumaker has a .304 average in 102 at-bats this season. "I feel like I got more comfortable up here and I could actually produce up here, rather than not knowing if I could," Schumaker told the AP. "I actually did something consistently for a little while." The move was made to clear a roster spot for the recently acquired Joel Pineiro.
Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsSaturday 3/17, 11:06 AM CT

Skip Schumaker, 2B, St. Louis CardinalsWednesday 3/7, 5:40 PM CT
Skip Schumaker flexed his muscle against the Dodgers on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI. He's a longshot to break camp with the Cardinals, but that could change if Jim Edmonds isn't ready for the start of the season.
