Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosMonday 1/25, 6:56 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez is headed for arbitration with the Astros after a team-imposed deadline has passed today, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Rodriguez asked for $7MM in salary, and Houston offered just $5MM. An arbitrator will take those two figures and decide his salary for the 2010 campaign. He held a 14-12 mark in 2009, with a 3.02 ERA and 1.24 WHIP.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 10/2, 9:49 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez gave up three earned runs on eight hits over six innings in Friday's 7-1 loss at New York. He had one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View: Rodriguez had a decent performance, but was dealt a loss due to poor support. He holds a solid 3.02 ERA over 33 starts.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 9/27, 3:37 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez rebounded from a poor outing last Tuesday, limiting the Reds to two runs in six innings, as Houston won 3-2 at home.

Our View: He is now 14-11 with a 2.97 ERA and 190 strikeouts in 32 starts this season.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosMonday 9/21, 9:39 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was hammered for six earned runs on nine hits over five innings in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Cardinals at Minute Maid Park. He had no walks with five strikeouts.

Our View: Rodriguez only collected one win over his last six starts, and suffered his 11th loss of 2009 tonight.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosMonday 9/14, 9:08 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez only allowed two earned runs on five hits over six innings in Monday's 3-1 loss at Cincinnati. He had two walks and racked up eight strikeouts.

Our View: Rodriguez pitched well tonight, but was dealt his 10th loss of 2009 due to poor run support. He allowed two or less earned runs in five of his last six starts, but only earned two wins over the span.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/9, 9:46 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was his usual dominant self at home on Thursday night, allowing just three hits and one run in seven innings, as Houston rallied late for a 2-1 win over Atlanta.

Our View: Rodriguez's ERA now rests at 2.76, while his WHIP is an excellent 1.20. With his seven innings tonight, he tied his career high of 182.2 set in 2007.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 9/4, 10:24 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez shut down a powerful Phillies' lineup on Friday as the Astros blanked Philadephia by a score of 7-0. Rodriguez went seven scoreless innings and allowed seven hits while striking out seven.

Our View: Wandy has been excellent for the most part this season, as evidenced by his 2.82 ERA. His 13-9 record might not seem outstanding, but if he played for a better team we may be talking about him in the Cy Young race. While the wins aren't always a sure thing, fantasy owners should be able to rely on Wandy for quality performances down the stretch.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 8/30, 9:30 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings on Sunday. He fanned seven, but was handed his ninth loss of the season as the Astros fell 4-3 to the Diamondbacks.

Our View: Rodriguez has pitched much better this season than his nine losses would suggest. He holds a 2.93 ERA and had only allowed one run in his last 15 innings before Sunday's start.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/25, 9:59 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was masterful on Tuesday, but he was hit with the loss as his Astros fell to the Cardinals 1-0. Rodriguez went seven innings and allowed one run on three hits while walking one and striking out six.

Our View: This has to be a tough one to take for Wandy, who pretty much shut down the Cards over seven innings. He was good, but Cardinals' starter Adam Wainwright was better on this night. It looks like Wandy has figured it out, because his last two starts have been excellent after a horrific outing against the Brewers a week and a half ago.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 8/20, 10:13 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez rebounded from the worst outing of his career on Thursday night, throwing eight sharp innings of one-run ball (zero earned), as the Astros beat the Marlins 4-1 at home.

Our View: Rodriguez allowed ten runs to the Brewers in a horrific game last Friday, but looked to have put it past him tonight. He has allowed more than one earned run in a start just once since July 2.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 8/14, 10:29 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez had the the worst start of his career on Friday night, surrendering ten runs in just four innings, as the Astros lost 11-2 in Milwaukee.

Our View: The horrific outing spiked his ERA from 2.51 to 3.05. It was the first time since June 26 (seven starts) that he had allowed more than one run. Look for him to pick himself up off the floor and turn in a solid outing his next time out.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 8/9, 4:05 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez only issued five hits over seven scoreless innings in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Brewers at Minute Maid Park. He had two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: Rodriguez has not taken a loss over his last nine starts, and collected his team-leading 11th win. Keep him active in fantasy lineups for his next turn in Houston's rotation.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 8/7, 9:12 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez (hamstring) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday, and declared himself 100 percent healthy and ready for his Sunday start, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: The injury never appeared to be too serious, and the NL pitcher of the month for July sounds ready to come back and pitch well on Sunday.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/5, 3:51 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Wandy Rodriguez threw a bullpen session on Wednesday and, after positive results, looks to return to the rotation on Sunday.

Our View: Wandy has another bullpen session scheduled for Friday, where he plans to throw at 100 percent, and will be reevaluated after that. The Astros can't afford for him to miss any more time, especially with Roy Oswalt out as well.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/4, 4:31 PM CT
The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Astros starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez has been named July's NL pitcher of the month. Rodriguez was 4-0 in July with an 0.75 ERA.

Our View: Wandy struck out 37 batters and walked only seven in the month of July, and he was pretty much unhittable. He is currently dealing with a tweaked hamstring, but he doesn't expect to miss a start. While he will probably not keep up the pace heset in July, Wandy looks like an excellent fantasy play for the stretch run.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 8/2, 7:18 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez, who had to leave in the fifth inning against St. Louis on Saturday with a strained right hamstring, does not expect to miss his next start, according to the Houston Chronicle. "It doesn't hurt that much," said Rodriguez. "I think I'm not going to miss a start. I'm going to treat it. By how I'm feeling today I don't think I'm going to miss a start, but we'll see how it feels tomorrow."

Our View: Stay tuned, but it looks like Wandy should be good to go for his next turn, at home against the Brewers on Friday, August 7, and he'll get an extra day of rest with Houston on an off day on Thursday. Given how effective he's been of late, having failed to give up more than a run in any of his past six starts, and how great he's always been at home, it's tough not to start him next week, even if there is a bit of uncertainty surrounding his hamstring.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 8/1, 8:10 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez exited Saturday's start against the Cardinals in the fifth inning with a strained right hamstring, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The severity of his injury is yet to be determined. He was hurt while reaching first base on a fielder's choice.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosMonday 7/27, 11:11 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez only allowed one earned run on six hits over seven innings in Monday's 5-1 loss at Chicago. He had two walks and fired seven strikeouts. The game went 13 innings.

Our View: Rodriguez had a solid outing, but ended the night with a no-decision due to poor run support from his teammates. He has allowed one or less earned runs in each of his five starts in July, and should be penciled into fantasy lineups for his next turn in the Astros' rotation.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 7/21, 10:33 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez cruised to his tenth win of the season on Tuesday night, allowing just four hits and one run in seven innings, as the Astros eased by the Cardinals 11-6.

Our View: This is Wandy's third straight season of steady improvement, and he has quietly become one of the best pitchers in the National League. Expect big things going forward.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 7/17, 12:25 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez pitched six scoreless innings Thursday to pick up his ninth win of the season as the Astros blanked the Dodgers 3-0 in Los Angeles.

Our View: Wandy has now thrown three straight quality starts. He has given the Astros a legitimate number two starter behind Roy Oswalt in 2009, and is the complete fantasy package with his high number of wins and strikeouts and low ERA.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/8, 3:50 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was masterful in his Wednesday afternoon start against the Pirates, as the Astros blanked Pittsburgh 5-0. Rodriguez pitched a complete game shutout and allowed only five hits while walking one and striking out 11.

Our View: Wandy hasn't shown much since his outstanding start to the season, but he looked like the early season version today. The one walk was a great sign, and the 11 K's prove he had the good stuff. He is still inconsistent, but he should be owned and started in all leagues because of the potential for games like this.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 7/2, 6:26 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez rebounded from an awful start last time out, pitching seven innings of one run ball as the Astros beat San Diego, and a swarm of bees, 7-2 on Thursday.

Our View: After a huge start to 2009, Rodriguez has been inconsistent of late, throwing good one game then getting torched the next. He believes he had been tipping his pitches, however, and said he corrected the flaw before today's game. He is still worth a roster spot in almost every format and should be a solid fantasy pitcher going forward.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/1, 10:10 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Wandy Rodriguez thinks his recent struggles could be a result of him tipping his pitches.

Our View: After starting the season on an ace-like tear, Rodriguez has struggled mightily since late May. His ERA jumped from 1.83 to 3.35 and his record went from 5-2 to 6-6. The tipping pitches theory seems like a cop out. Rodriguez is clearly struggling with something though.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 6/26, 10:54 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was rocked for four earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Friday's 5-4 win over the Tigers at Minute Maid Park. He had four walks and three strikeouts, and was tagged for two homers.

Our View: He had a tough outing, and should be happy he ended the night with a no-decision rather than a loss. He now has a 5.90 ERA (with one win) over five starts in June.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 6/21, 4:04 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was in control from the hill in Sunday's 4-1 win at Minnesota, as he only issued one earned run on two hits over seven innings. He had three walks and eight strikeouts, and the only score came on a Michael Cuddyer homer.

Our View: It was a great outing for Rodriguez other than the three free passes. He evens his record to 6-6, and snapped a five-game skid without earning a win.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 6/16, 10:00 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was tagged for six earned runs on Tuesday night in the Astros 6-1 loss to the Rangers.

Our View: After pitching superbly in his last start after three terrible ones, Rodriguez was again terrible on Tuesday night. His incredible start is beginning to look further and further away in the rearview-mirror as the losses and walks pile up. He could soon no longer be worth a roster spot.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/10, 11:17 PM CT
After a couple of terrible outings, it seems the Cubs were all Wandy Rodriguez needed to get back on track. He allowed only one run in seven innings of work. Wandy gave up five hits and two walks while striking out six in the Astros 2-1 win. Unfortunately, he did not factor in the decision.

Our View: After looking like one of the better pitchers in the league in his first nine starts, Wandy seemed to get rattled by a loss to the Reds in which he allowed six unearned runs. Hopefully tonight's performance will get him back in the rhythm that his fantasy owners enjoyed in the first portion of the season.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 6/4, 10:24 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was rocked for seven earned runs on 10 hits over a mere five innings of work in Thursday's 10-3 loss to the Rockies at Minute Maid Park. He had two walks, seven strikeouts and gave up four homers.

Our View: Rodriguez falls to 5-5 for the season, and has taken a loss in each of his last three starts. He has pitched pretty well overall this season, and should be able to bounce back. Perhaps you can acquire him for a bargain price following tonight's disastrous outing.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosMonday 5/25, 5:35 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez lasted just four innings and took his third loss of the season despite not allowing an earned run in Monday's 8-5 loss in Cincinnati. The starter gave up six unearned runs on 10 hits and two walks, while striking out three hitters.

Our View: This was a wasted day for Wandy and his owners as he probably would have improved to 6-2 had his defense been competent. Let this outing have no bearing on his awesome season that has been having to date.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 5/20, 11:52 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was outstanding again on Wednesday as the Astros beat the Brewers 6-4. Rodriguez went seven innings and allowed one run on six hits while walking one and striking out five.

Our View: Wandy has turned himself into a well-above average fantasy pitcher, and he continues to deliver every time he takes the mound. Trade for him if you can, but right now it will take a lot to get the guy while he is pitching this well.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 5/14, 5:14 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez dominated the Rockies on Thursday in the Astros' 5-3 win. Rodriguez went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out 11.

Our View: This is Wandy's second straight dominant outing, and he has developed into a very good fantasy pitcher. His 11 strikeouts solidified him as a top pitching option, but his record still sits at 4-2.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 5/8, 11:48 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez sparkled on Friday, tossing an eight-inning scoreless gem against the Padres. He allowed just five hits, did not walk a man and struck out seven in the Astros' 2-0 win.

Our View: Wandy is now 3-2 on the season with a 1.80 ERA and has emerged and a strong fantasy starter in any format. He's picking up the slack for a struggling Roy Oswalt who is notoriously inconsistent in the first half of the season.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 5/3, 4:39 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was far from sharp on Sunday, but still gave his team a chance to win. He allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over just five innings, but the bullpen held on and the Astros topped the Braves 7-5.

Our View: This start was uncharacteristic of Rodriguez so far this season. He's been the Astros' ace in the hole with a 1.69 ERA coming into today's game. His Sunday hiccup brought it up to 2.19, but he's still having a strong 2009 campaign.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 4/28, 10:28 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was great once again as he scattered five hits and two walks over seven innings to earn his second victory of the season. He allowed just one run and struck out five in the Astros' 8-3 win over the Reds.

Our View: Rodriguez's season ERA is now a sterling 1.69 and the Astros may have finally found their compliment to Roy Oswalt. If he can stay healthy he may be the boost that the patchwork Houston rotation has been looking for.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 4/24, 12:11 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez had a great start, but took the hard luck loss on Thursday as the Astros fell to the Dodgers 2-0. He allowed just one run on five hits and two walks over six innings.

Our View: Wandy is just 1-2 on the season, but is sporting a fantastic 1.80 ERA. He racks up the strikeouts and if he can stay healthy he'll put up some solid win totals. Wandy has turned into a decent fantasy option at SP.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 4/18, 8:49 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez dominated on Saturday as he threw seven shutout innings and earned his first win of the season in the Astros 7-0 thrashing of the Reds. Rodriguez allowed just two hits and two walks and struck out ten.

Our View: Wandy made a lot of Reds miss on Saturday and showed his true potential as a starter. He's been inconsistent in the past and has had several run-ins with the injury bug, but has always had the tools to be successful. The Astros would love it if he could keep this up. Their rotation has a lot of holes behind Roy Oswalt.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 4/12, 8:39 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez will make his second start of the season today against the Cardinals (4-2) at Busch Stadium, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Rodriguez only allowed one earned run on four hits over six innings in his season debut, but is 2-6 with a 4.08 ERA over 10 meetings (nine starts) with St. Louis. The Astros only won one game so far, and Rodriguez could be headed for another tough outing against the Cardinals.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/24, 3:37 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez threw four scoreless innings, with two hits allowed, in Tuesday's 8-0 win over the Mets in the Grapefruit League, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: He was not hindered by his bruised index finger on his pitching hand, evidenced by his solid performance today. Rodriguez has had trouble staying healthy, but is worth targeting as a flier for mixed leagues. He fired 131 strikeouts over 137.1 innings last season, with a 1.31 WHIP.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/24, 8:20 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez will start Tuesday's game against the Mets, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: He was originally scheduled to pitch Monday, but was scratched due to a bruised index finger on his pitching hand. He is capable of solid production, but remains a risky fantasy prospect due to a poor track record with durability.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 3/22, 9:28 PM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Wandy Rodriguez's Monday start will be pushed back due to a bruised index finger on his pitching hand. The injury is not believed to be serious enough to hinder his opening day availability.

Our View: Rodriguez has consistently shown improvement in recent seasons and his 3.54 ERA and 8.58 K/9 rate look very nice. However, he has had difficulty staying healthy and his value has been limited as a result.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 3/19, 3:48 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez allowed five runs (one earned) on three hits over two innings in Thursday's 12-1 loss to the Mets, with two walks and one strikeout.

Our View: Rodriguez falls to 0-3 this spring, with a 6.00 ERA. He failed to locate his pitches today as he wanted to, evidenced by his two walks.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/14, 7:51 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez is set to return to the hill for today's split-squad game against the Yankees, according to the Houston Chronicle. He has been recovering from a strained ribcage and said, "I feel very good. I have not felt any pain."

Our View: He is hoping to build up his pitch count over two scheduled innings, and also hopes to locate his pitches. Rodriguez would hold a spot near the top of the Astros' rotation if healthy.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/10, 2:14 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Wandy Rodriguez (strained ribcage) did not experience any discomfort after throwing 30 pitches in a simulated game today, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He fired 10 additional pitches in a bullpen session, and is scheduled to take the hill against the Yankees on Saturday. If healthy, Rodriguez is capable of being a solid fantasy pitcher, namely in the strikeouts department.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/10, 8:25 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez, who is recovering from a strained rib cage, is scheduled to throw a simulated game today, according to the Houston Chronicle. He has not pitched in a game since February 27.

Our View: This is definitely a situation worth monitoring. Rodriguez may not receive a ton of attention from fantasy owners on draft day, but he made real strides last year, sporting career best K/9 (8.6) and BB/9 (2.9) rates. If healthy, there's reason to believe he could take another step forward in 2009.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 3/5, 10:52 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that Wandy Rodriguez threw for the second day in a row and reported no pain. He is dealing with a strained ribcage that has slowed his spring to this point.

Our View: Pending an up coming bullpen session, Rodriguez should be able to start throwing with some regularity. He's a solid fantasy starter, especially in the strikeout category, when healthy.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/3, 8:17 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez, who is dealing with a strained intercostal muscle in his left side, may so some light throwing today, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Rodriguez is capable of solid production, namely for strikeouts, but it remains to be seen if he will continue to be limited by his health.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosMonday 3/2, 9:19 AM CT
Manager Cecil Cooper noted that Wandy Rodriguez will miss his next two starts while recovering from a strained intercostal muscle in his left side, according to the Houston Chronicle. Pitching coach Dewey Robinson said, "There is a lot of torque going into his upper half, and it is natural. That is how pitchers throw. I kind of saw this last year when he was coming back from one of his injuries. Wandy uses his lower half to drive off the mound, but if we keep him a little taller and over the ball, it shortens up his side and hopefully takes some of the stress off."

Our View: It was previously indicated that he would only miss one start, but the club wants to be cautious going by his poor track record with durability. Rodriguez is capable of solid production, namely for strikeouts, but it remains to be seen if he will continue to be hindered by his health.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 2/28, 9:38 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez strained an intercostal muscle in his left side and will miss at least one spring start, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He has a poor track record with durability, so the Astros will handle his latest injury with caution. Rodriguez is capable of solid production, namely for strikeouts, but it remains to be seen if he will continue to be hindered by his health.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 2/27, 5:15 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez got roughed up by Washington on Friday to the tune of two runs, four hits, one walk and zero strikeouts in two innings.

Our View: Rodriguez has been getting tabbed as a sleeper by many heading into 2009, and this one performance shouldn't do anything to change people's minds, although it'll certainly be worth monitoring whether he can bounce back in his next couple outings in spring training.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 1/27, 7:12 AM CT
The Houston Chronicle believes Wandy Rodriguez will enter spring training as the Astros' likely No. 2 starter in the rotation behind ace Roy Oswalt.

Our View: Rodriguez earned nine wins last season, with 131 strikeouts over 137.1 innings, while maintaining a 1.31 WHIP. He has potential to be a nice value pick in 2009, namely with an increase in innings.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosMonday 1/26, 6:42 PM CT
The Astros and Wandy Rodriguez avoided arbitration on Monday by agreeing to a one-year, $2.6 million deal, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Rodriguez made 25 appearances for the Astros last year, all of which were starts. He's becoming a more consistent starter for them, going 9-7 with a 3.54 ERA. He could have some fantasy value this year, but probably won't be drafted in most leagues.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 1/23, 6:42 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Houston Astros and starter Wandy Rodriguez are in negotiations for a new contract. The Astros are said to have offered the lefty $2.25 million, while Rodriguez is seeking $3 million.

Our View: If a deal cannot be reached, the two sides will likely be involved in an arbitration hearing.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 9/28, 4:50 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez allowed no earned runs in seven innings of work against the Braves on Sunday. He struck out six and allowed four hits in the Astros 3-1 victory.

Our View: Rodriguezwas inconsistent throughout all of 2008. In three months, including September, he posted ERAs less than three. In two others, he had marks of 5.45 and 5.79. He will likely be a part of the 2009 Astros rotation.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 9/26, 9:42 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez is ready to make his scheduled start on Sunday in what will be his second appearance since returning from a strained right oblique, according to The Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Wandy has had his ups and downs this season, but with a 3.59 ERA and 8.63 K/9 he has been a very useful arm in NL-only leagues. If you are looking for a guy to start over the weekend he might make a nice option facing a Braves club that is limping to the finish line.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 9/21, 1:43 PM CT
Astros pitcher Wandy Rodriguez felt good on Sunday after his simulated game from the day before, so he will return to the team's rotation on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds, according to Astros.com.

Our View: Rodriguez was suffering from a strained oblique, but he has thrown a bullpen session and simulated game recently, so he will make his return.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 9/18, 7:07 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez has been out with a strained oblique and on Thursday threw a 20 pitch bullpen session, according to MLB.com. This weekend in Pittsburgh Rodriguez will throw a simulated game in which the Atros will see if he is ready for game action.

Our View: If Rodriguez is ready to go after this weekend the Astros say they might get more production out of him if he pitched out of the bullpen. If Rodriguez comes back in the pen he will not have much fantasy value.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 9/18, 7:40 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was pleased with the way his strained right oblique muscle responded as he threw a light, 15-pitch pen session on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "It was only 15 pitches, but I felt good. If I feel good in the bullpen, I’ll try to start. But Wednesday I didn’t throw 100 percent, so I don’t know. I’ll try to go 100 percent Thursday and throw all my pitches."

Our View: Unless he suffers a setback this morning, he will throw a full bullpen session in the afternoon. He is hopeful of being cleared to start again. He should remain reserved on fantasy rosters.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/17, 8:02 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez threw long toss on Tuesday and will throw a bullpen session today for the first time since he aggravated his strained right oblique September 7, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "I was running today and I didn’t feel anything. Before when I ran each time I lifted my legs I felt a pull on my side. When I’m ready I’m going to tell the manager. I want to be 100 percent ready."

Our View: He isn't quite ready to return to action, and should remain reserved on fantasy rosters.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/10, 8:19 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez's oblique strain has improved to the point that he will play catch Wednesday in hopes of throwing a bullpen session over the weekend and making a start next week, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Rodriguez has just eight wins, but he has been a solid fantasy performer nonetheless, with a 3.73 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 8.47 K/9 rate.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/10, 12:21 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez will miss his next scheduled start due to a strained right oblique, the AP reports. He suffered the injury on Sunday.

Our View: We don't know yet who will replace Rodriguez, but long reliever Chris Sampson is a good bet. Wandy has had a decent season, but injuries have held him to 125.1 innings thus far. He'll need to up his conditioning before fantasy owners in mixed leagues can truly trust him.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/9, 8:22 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez, who was forced to exit early from his start Sunday against the Rockies because of a strained right oblique, didn’t feel much better Monday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "I still feel it right there. I’ll see what the doctor says after I see him."

Our View: Rodriguez has only allowed more than two earned runs in one of his last six outings. We will keep you posted on his status.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 9/7, 3:33 PM CT
Rodriguez left Sunday's game in the second inning with a left oblique strain, the Associate Press reports.

Our View: We will keep you posted on his status.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 8/31, 3:17 PM CT
Houston hurler Wandy Rodriguez had to leave the game against the Cardinals in the sixth inning after he apparently injured his back, according to The Sports Network.

Our View: Rodriguez had been excellent in the game, shutting the Cardinals down until he was forced to leave.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/26, 10:36 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was fantastic Tuesday, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out 10 over seven innings. He got a no-decision in the loss to Cincinnati.

Our View: Wandy has struggled since July, so it's good to see him come through with a nice outing.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/20, 4:09 PM CT
Houston hurler Wandy Rodriguez saw his record drop to 7-6 as the Astros were downed by the Brewers 5-2. Rodriguez was wild, throwing five bases on balls in 5.1 innings, but allowing just two earned runs. He also struck out six in the contest.

Our View: Rodriguez has had a poor August, and has walked 11 batters in his last eight innings over two outings. That certainly won't help fantasy owners in the WHIP department.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 8/10, 4:19 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez picked up his seventh win of the year in Houston's 13-4 beat-down of the Reds. Rodriguez went 6.2 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out seven.

Our View: Rodriguez has been a solid though unspectacular fantasy performer. He will help in all areas, but if he could ever stop allowing so many home runs, he would be even better.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/5, 4:27 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez stumbled against the Cubs on Tuesday afternoon. The southpaw allowed nine hits and six runs over five innings. Rodriguez took a no-decision. His road ERA grew to 4.81, which is notably above his mark at home (3.31).

Our View: Rodriguez remains maddeningly inconsistent, although he is a bit more bankable at home. He is useful in all types of leagues, but it's tough to know when he'll look like an ace and when he'll blow up.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/30, 11:23 PM CT
After back-to-back outings of one run allowed, Wandy Rodriguez took a step back on Wednesday allowing six runs in just 4.2 innings of work in his fourth loss of the year.

Our View: Wandy allowed three home runs on the night while needing 87 pitches to record 14 outs. Over his last six starts Rodriguez has a 5.45 ERA and 1.61 WHIP, a far cry from earlier in the year when he was on quite a role.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 7/25, 10:40 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez cooled off the Milwaukee Brewers and picked up his sixth win of the season by hurling six innings, giving up three hits and one earned run while striking out seven.

Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/19, 9:57 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez befuddled the Cubs hitters Saturday, allowing one run on nine hits and no walks while striking out seven over 6 2/3 innings.

Our View: Well, Wandy was at home... what did you expect? The southpaw always looks like an ace at Minute Maid.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/16, 10:44 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez has struggled of late with a 6.89 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP over his last three starts for the Astros.

Our View: Wandy still has 14 K in 15.2 innings in those three outings, though he has been uncharacteristically wild with seven walks in that time. Through it all he continues to have a ton of success at home with a 2.72 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in Houston while his struggles on the road have carried over from last season (4.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP).
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/12, 9:33 PM CT
Houston LHP Wandy Rodriguez earned his fourth win of the season this evening, supporting the Astros' 6-4 win over Washington. Rodriguez pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Our View: Wandy has struggled to go deep over recent weeks, surpassing the sixth inning just once over his last six starts. Through three July starts, he has allowed 12 earned runs with at least one homer allowed in each.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosThursday 6/26, 10:03 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez struck out a career high nine batters, and pitched eight solid innings to get the win for Houston in their 7-2 triumph over the Rangers according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Rodriguez has had a very good season, don't reflect that. His performance this season has made him someone to think about acquiring for fantasy purposes, as his ERA and strikeout capabilities make him an attractive option.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 6/8, 4:02 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez was cruising along Sunday until a couple errors and a couple hit batsmen in the seventh inning opened the door to five unearned runs. The lefty ended the day allowing only four hits and a walk while striking out seven over 6 2/3 innings. He didn't give up any earned runs.

Our View: Wandy has continued his mastery at home this year, posting a 0.72 ERA in four starts at Minute Maid this year (he had a 2.94 ERA in 15 starts at home last year).
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 6/3, 9:59 PM CT
Houston LHP Wandy Rodriguez was stellar on the mound in support of the Astros' 2-0 win over Pittsburgh this evening, pitching six innings of shutout baseball with five hits allowed, one walk, and three strikeouts.

Our View: Rodriguez struggled with control his last time out, taking the loss with just four innings pitched, allowing four walks versus just one strikeout. Tonight he was on his game and looks to be improving as he moves forward.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/27, 11:26 PM CT
The Astros activated Wandy Rodriguez from the DL after Tuesday's game. Rodriguez, who will start Wednesday night, is coming back from a strained left groin. Dave Borkowski was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.

Our View: Rodriguez has a tough first assignment, as he's matched up against Adam Wainwright. It may be best to see what he's got his first time out before activating him.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/27, 9:52 AM CT
As expected, Wandy Rodriguez is going to be activated from the DL on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He is also expected to take the hill against the Cardinals, after being out for over a month with a strained left groin.

Our View: The team will have to remove someone from the rotation when Rodriguez is activated, and the most likely candidate is Brian Moehler, who is 2-1 with a 4.40 ERA. Rodriguez was 1-0 over four starts this season, with a solid 2.31 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. He also racked up 24 strikeouts over 23.1 innings. He is worth scooping up if he was set free to the free agent pool during his time on the shelf.

Wandy Rodriguez will throw a simulated game on Saturday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Manager Cecil Cooper said Rodriguez will throw five simulated innings of about 15 pitches each. He is recovering from a strained left groin.

Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosWednesday 5/14, 9:22 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez threw 60 pitches in a simulated game on Tuesday and continues to provide glowing reports. "I feel nothing today," he tells the Houston Chronicle. "I'll throw again in Texas on Friday." Rodriguez will throw 80 pitches on Friday and then possibly go on a rehab assignment. He is on the DL due to a strained left groin.

Our View: Given all the "pain-free" reports, we imagine Rodriguez may only need one minor league outing before jumping back into the rotation. We could see him by the middle or end of next week.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSunday 5/11, 8:57 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez threw another pain-free bullpen session on Saturday. He is on the DL due to a sore left groin. "It didn't bother me," Rodriguez informs the Houston Chronicle. "On Tuesday, I'll throw a simulated game. Then we'll see what they do with me. I think I'm fine."

Our View: The Astros haven't provided a timetable for Rodriguez's return, but fantasy owners shouldn't count on him for the week ahead. He will likely need a rehab stint before jumping back into the Astros rotation.

Wandy Rodriguez, who is on the DL recovering from a strained groin, will throw a bullpen session today at Minute Maid Park, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "I don't know if I'm healthy yet, because I have to see after I throw. I have to see if I feel it when I throw. I have to pitch because that's when I can see how I feel."

Our View: Rodriguez, who continued to feel discomfort during a simulated game last Monday in Arizona, was shut down Friday after he was examined by Dr. Dave Lintner. The Astros initially had hoped Rodriguez would be ready to come off the DL and start today against Washington, but it's uncertain if he'll even be ready before next week. Ed Wade stated the team will have to play it by ear, and see how his session goes today.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/3, 8:51 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez will likely miss another start because of the strained left groin that put him on the DL on April 20, according to MLB.com. Manager Cecil Cooper said, "He was going to throw a simulated game today, but we decided not to do it. The doctor said it was probably better if we hold off on it. We're going to wait and see how he is in a couple of days."

Our View: Rodriguez is eligible to come off the DL on Monday. Cooper was hoping he would be able to make a start against the Nationals during the three-game series at Minute Maid Park from Tuesday-Thursday, but now it appears Rodriguez will miss a third turn through the rotation. The Astros will most likely turn to veteran righty Brian Moehler to take Rodriguez's spot in the rotation.
Wandy Rodriguez, P, Houston AstrosFriday 5/2, 10:24 AM CT
Wandy Rodriguez's simulated game has been pushed back to either Saturday or Sunday due to continued soreness in his strained groin, according to the Houston Chronicle. The session was originally scheduled for Thursday. The lefty will be examined today by team medical director Dr. David Lintner. "We'll see how he feels when he shows up at the ballpark (today) and play it by ear," GM Ed Wade said. "No sense in rushing it at this point and have him reaggravate it and have to run through another two to three weeks of building back up again. We'll be guided by how Wandy feels and try to make sure we make the right decision as far as when to reinstate him."

Our View: Wandy is eligible to return on Monday, but that's not going to happen. We'll keep you posted on his rehab.

Manager Cecil Cooper added, "It's going well. Pen Saturday and then at least one simulated or maybe two for Wandy."

Our View: Rodriguez racked up 24 strikeouts over 23.1 innings, while maintaining a 1.11 WHIP. He will return to the rotation in early May, barring a setback, and he is worth scooping up if you can lure him away for a low price while he is on the DL.
