Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsMonday 1/25, 5:11 PM CT
Chuck James has signed a minor league deal with the Nationals, according to William Ladson's twitter page.

Our View: The 28-year-old hurler held a dreadful 9.10 ERA and 1.89 WHIP over 29.2 innings (seven starts) with Atlanta in 2009. His fantasy outlook for 2010 does not look bright with Washington.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsFriday 12/12, 5:15 PM CT
Chuck James was non-tendered by the Braves on Friday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: James had successful rotator cuff surgery in September and is expected to miss the majority of the 2009 season.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsThursday 9/11, 8:16 PM CT
Chuck James had surgery on his shoulder and hopes that he will be able to return after the All-Star break next season, according to the Braves Official Website. James had the surgery to repair an injured labrum and rotator cuff that was performed by Dr. James Andrews.

Our View: James has been awful for a while now, so at least we know why that has been the case. Since August 1st of last season, James is 5-7 with a 7.26 ERA, numbers that include a 2-5 mark with a 9.10 ERA in seven starts with the Braves.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/9, 2:37 PM CT
Braves hurler Chuck James was sent to the minor leagues in order to make room on the roster for Chipper Jones, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: James has been hideous this season, just two years removed from an impressive rookie debut. He had no place on fantasy rosters anyway, so his demotion shouldn't have an effect in fantasy leagues.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsFriday 8/1, 10:25 PM CT
Chuck James faced the Brewers on Friday night and the results where predictably awful as he fell to 2-4 on the season. James allowed six hits and four walks leading to six earned runs in just 2.2 innings.

Our View: James allowed two more home runs on the night for a total of nine in just 25.2 innings this season, an alarming rate a year after he allowed 32 in just 161.1 innings last season. Toss him back on waivers if you took an ill advised chance on him tonight.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsFriday 8/1, 5:25 PM CT
Chuck James will indeed be recalled to start for the Braves on Friday night against Jeff Suppan and the Milwaukee Brewers, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: James has allowed seven home runs in just five starts on the year leading to a 8.22 ERA, so don't expect too much of anything tonight against a powerful Brewers lineup.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsThursday 7/31, 11:09 AM CT
Chuck James could be recalled from Triple-A Richmond to start for the Braves on Friday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. James holds a 2.48 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) at Richmond.

Our View: James was a mess earlier this year for the Braves, but he appears to have found a groove in the minors. Don't forget what James did for the Braves the last two years. He's at least worth monitoring.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsMonday 6/16, 11:59 AM CT
Chuck James tossed seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Richmond on Sunday night, extending his streak to 14 frames without a run this June. The southpaw walked none and struck out eight in his latest effort. He has allowed only seven hits over 14.0 innings this month.

Our View: James has pitched very well since coming off the minor league DL. He needs to stretch out his arm a little more and continue to work consistently, but the Braves could turn to him soon. The major league club is running low on options.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsFriday 5/16, 4:26 PM CT
Chuck James has been optioned to Triple-A Richmond, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Braves also recalled right-handed pitcher Phil Stockman.

Our View: James was rocked for five earned runs in four innings of work in his last start on May 15. His ERA climbed to 8.22 over 23 innings, and he held little fantasy value prior to his demotion.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsThursday 5/15, 9:52 PM CT
Chuck James allowed three home runs and five earned runs to fall to 2-3 on the year. James gave up six hits and five walks in four innings of work.

Our View: James just isn't right, a fact that appears to be obvious to everyone other than the Braves decision makers. James has now allowed seven home runs in just 23 innings covering five starts, and until he reverses that trend he has little chance of being a productive hurler.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSunday 5/11, 7:38 AM CT
Chuck James pitched on Saturday night against the Pirates despite a small blister on the middle finger of his left hand, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The southpaw allowed five hits and five runs over six innings.

Our View: The Braves probably begged James to suck it up. Their staff has been hit hard by injuries, and they needed James to log those six innings. We'll let you know if he's still expected to stick in the rotation.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/10, 8:14 PM CT
The Atlanta Braves have recalled LHP Chuck James from Triple-A Richmond, slating him to start Saturday night's game versus the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View: To make room for James on the roster, the Braves have placed reliever Buddy Carlyle on the 15-day disabled list with a strained neck. James was 2-1 with an ERA of 7.62 in three starts with Atlanta before his demotion. Carlyle suffered his neck injury when he collided with Kevin Kouzmanoff of the Padres on Thursday night.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsFriday 4/25, 10:21 AM CT
Chuck James has been sent down to Triple-A Richmond, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Tom Glavine will be activated from the DL and start on Tuesday. The team also wants to add a fresh arm for their bullpen, and will make the announcement today.

Our View: James was 2-1 as a spot starter while filling in for Glavine, but he held a poor 7.62 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. He holds no fantasy value following the move.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/24, 10:21 PM CT
Chuck James improved to 2-1 on the year but it wasn't pretty as he allowed four runs, five hits and five walks in five innings.

Our View: Face it, James is not someone you can count on no matter how badly you want him to be. He has now allowed three home runs in three starts while permitting 14 hits and seven walks in 13 innings. He might win some games, but those ratio's don't figure to be too pretty.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/24, 2:14 PM CT
Chuck James will take the hill against the Marlins tonight, a team he has a good record against, according to MLB.com. He is currently 1-1 with a 7.88 ERA over eight innings, but went 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA against the Marlins last season.

Our View: James is not pitching well, but still has a passable 1.38 WHIP. He has been dealing with forearm pain, and may be worth keeping an eye on when he gets healthy.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsTuesday 4/22, 8:36 AM CT
Chuck James reportedly experienced some stiffness in his left forearm during Saturday's start against the Dodgers, according to MLB.com. But he thinks the pain is just due to getting used to throwing at full strength again.

Our View: Let's see how he performs in his next start. Hopefully the pain won't hinder him.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/19, 6:18 PM CT
Chuck James had a much more successful outing in his second start as he held the Dodgers to just one run over five innings to pick up the win. James allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out two, in the victory.

Our View: James has had a rough start to the year dealing with injury, and he has also continued to be plagued by the longball (two in two starts this season). If he doesn't cut down on the home runs, there isn't much reason to expect an improvement on last seasons numbers (4.24 ERA, 1.38 WHIP).
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/19, 10:43 AM CT
It didn't take long for him to come back, but the Braves have recalled pitcher Chuck James from Triple-A Richmond, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: James is expected to make the start for the Braves in their battle with the LA Dodgers today. He had been reassigned to Richmond just 10 days ago but has been brought back to round out the starting rotation, filling the void left by Tom Glavine (moved to the DL).
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/10, 5:18 PM CT
After making only one appearance in the first 12 games of the season, which was a spot start Wednesday in place of the injured Mike Hampton, the Braves have sent Chuck James back to Triple-A on Thursday, this according to MLB.com The Braves called up right-hander Jorge Campillo to round out the pitching staff.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsThursday 4/3, 11:30 PM CT

Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsFriday 3/14, 7:08 AM CT
Chuck James gave up one hit and retired six of the seven batters he faced during Thursday's exhibition game, though he had some tightness in his injured shoulder, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It felt good, as far as no pain. When I was done pitching it tightened up a little, but I guess that's normal for this stage," James said. James has a slight tear in his rotator cuff and has been brought along slowly this spring. At this point, all signs point to him beginning the season at Triple-A Richmond.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/8, 7:22 AM CT
Chuck James will make his spring exhibition debut on Thursday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. James has a slight tear in his rotator cuff and has been brought along slowly this spring after not throwing over the winter. He should still have time to claim a rotation spot if he performs well enough.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 2/20, 8:10 PM CT
Chuck James threw off a mound Wednesday and didn't feel any pain in his shoulder. The left had some problems with the shoulder towards the end of last season. Even with the positive mound session, GM Frank Wren isn't ready to pencil James into the opening day rotation just yet. "It's probably too early to speculate on that," Wren said in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We'll see how the next couple of weeks go, see if he can get out there and get innings built up." James isn't a given to crack the top five even if he is healthy, despite 22 wins over the last two years. Mike Hampton, Jair Jurrjens, Jo-Jo Reyes and Jeff Bennett are fighting for rotation spots, as well.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsWednesday 2/13, 12:31 AM CT
LHP Chuck James has been throwing off flat ground, starting at two sets of 20 throws at 90 feet, according to Fox Sports. James, who suffered a slight tear in his rotator cuff, said his shoulder is still bothering him on occasion. James' fantasy potential is high, but so is his risk of injury; including a possible lighter workload early this season to protect his shoulder.

Our View:
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 9/29, 6:49 AM CT
It looks like Chuck James won't make his scheduled start Sunday. Manager Bobby Cox said he probably will scratch James from the start because the pitcher is dealing with some upper-arm tightness, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. Look for Buddy Carlyle to get the nod in the season finale.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSunday 9/2, 6:27 AM CT

Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsMonday 8/20, 9:53 PM CT
Chuck James will miss his scheduled start Tuesday because of soreness in the back of his left shoulder, according to the AP. Lefty Jo-Jo Reyes will be called up to start in his place.

Our View: James will not have to go on the DL at the moment.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSunday 3/4, 6:50 PM CT
Chuck James allowed one run on three hits in two innings of work against the Dodgers on Sunday, and he was encouraged by the improvement on his slider, according to the AP. "It's definitely coming around and it's actually breaking a little bit this year, so I have been working on location," James said. "It's nice to have that third pitch when your fastball isn't there." He threw the slider several times in his two innings, more than he usually does in an entire game.
Chuck James, P, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/22, 9:34 PM CT
Chuck James had his start rained out on Saturday. There was no immediate word on whether he will be pushed back in the rotation or simply have his turn skipped.
