Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 3/7, 4:25 PM CT
Hunter Pence continued his scorching start to spring training on Sunday, going 1-for-2 with a walk, run scored and RBI triple in a loss to the Braves.

Our View: Pence is now hitting .571 this spring and has already driven in five runs. His age, 27, and increasing numbers suggest that he's poised for a breakout performance this season and should hit in a prime spot in the Astros order. He should be a solid five-category outfield option at an affordable price this year.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosThursday 3/4, 3:12 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI as the Astros crushed the Nationals 15-5 in spring training action on Thursday.

Our View: Pence finished 2009 in a prolonged slump, but it does not appear to have carried over into the spring. He should be a top-15 National League outfielder this season.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 1/23, 3:21 PM CT
Hunter Pence and the Astros have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.5 million deal on Saturday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: While he's not yet a fantasy superstar, the 26-year-old Pence is coming off back-to-back 25 home run seasons and has been pretty darn solid his first three years in the majors. Pence also led all MLB outfielders last season with 16 assists from the field.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 1/19, 5:56 PM CT
Hunter Pence is asking for $4.1 million in arbitration this offseason, according to AOL FanHouse. The Astros are offering $3.1 million.

Our View: Coming off of a season that saw him hit .282 with 25 home runs and 14 stolen bases, the figure Pence ends up with will likely be closer to his number than Houston's. Stay tuned.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 9/19, 10:32 PM CT
Hunter Pence hit his 24tho homer of the season in the Astros 7-2 loss to the Brewers on Saturday. It was his only hit in four at-bats.

Our View: Pence is having a fine month to cap off the regular season. Houston's rising star is hitting .344 with four homers and ten RBI in September.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/8, 9:55 PM CT
Hunter Pence cut a 2-0 deficit in half in the ninth inning on Tuesday night, but the Astros would get no closer, losing 2-1 to Atlanta at home.

Our View: Pence is now batting .435 in seven September games, with three home runs and nine RBI for good measure.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosMonday 9/7, 4:44 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 4-3 win over Philadelphia at Minute Maid Park. He hit a double and a two-run homer off Jamie Moyer.

Our View: Pence hit a homer in three of his last four games, and has 23 for 2009 - tying him for the team lead with Carlos Lee. He needs two more homers to tie his season-high of 25.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 9/5, 10:48 PM CT
Hunter Pence carried the Astros offensively in tonight's 5-4 win over Philadelphia at Minute Maid Park, as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. He hit a single and a two-run homer off Joe Blanton.

Our View: Pence swatted a homer in back-to-back games, and has 22 for 2009. He needs three more to tie his season-high of 25 from 2008.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 9/4, 10:27 PM CT
Hunter Pence launched his 21st homer of the season on Friday in the Astros' 7-0 win over the Phillies. Pence was 2-for-3 with the bomb, two runs scored, and two RBI in the game.

Our View: Pence has been fairly streaky this season, but after hitting seven homers in August, he has started off September nicely as well. His .284 average is solid, and the 61 RBI are respectable enough, although the number could be higher. He remains a decent play for all owners down the stretch.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 8/29, 12:06 AM CT
Hunter Pence hit his seventh home run of the month on Friday night, but it wasn't nearly enough, as Houston got blown out 14-7 in Arizona.

Our View: Pence had been just one for his last 16 entering Friday night, so it was nice to see him break out of his slump with a long ball in a very pitcher friendly ballpark.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 8/28, 12:21 PM CT
Hunter Pence is expected to return to the Astros' lineup for their Friday night game against the Diamondbacks, according to MLB.com. Pence has been out of the lineup in two of the previous four games due to struggles at the plate.

Our View: Pence is having a very nice season, but he has been very bad in the month of August. He is hitting .217 this month, and he has had two slumps of at least 0-for-11 this season. With all that, he is still hitting .278 on the year and he has 19 homers and 14 stolen bases. He should be able to get back in the lineup on a regular basis, and don't expect him to struggle like this for much longer.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 8/15, 9:12 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer off Mike Burns in tonight's 6-2 loss at Milwaukee.

Our View: Pence has four homers in August, and 17 for the season. He has a hit in five of his last six games as well.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/12, 9:49 PM CT
Hunter Pence's monster game paced the Astros on Wednesday night. The struggling right fielder launched two three-run home runs against the Marlins, helping Houston to a 14-6 win in Miami.

Our View: The six RBI were a career high for Pence. The multiple-RBI game was only his second this month, and prior to tonight he had just nine total since the All-Star break. Maybe this huge night will get him going again.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/5, 4:33 PM CT
Hunter Pence hit his 14th home run on Thursday, but the Astros sill got outslugged at home, losing 10-6 to the Giants.

Our View: Pence's numbers have tailed off dramatically since his huge start this season. After seeing his average climb as high as .329 on June 23rd, he's now batting just .293, and has homered only four times since the beginning of July.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 8/2, 4:24 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and made a sparkling defensive play in the Astros' 2-0 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.

Our View: Pence slumped considerably the last two months after hitting .388 in May. Sunday's performance was encouraging and hopefully leads to a more productive August.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/25, 10:49 PM CT
Hunter Pence hit his 13th homer of the season off of K-Rod in the ninth inning of the Astros' 10-3 loss on Saturday. He finished the day 1-for-4.

Our View: The first time All Star now has two homers and four RBI in his last four games. He looks to be crawling out of a July slump that saw his average dip below .300 for the first time since May 1st.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 7/5, 7:41 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Randy Johnson in Sunday's 7-1 win at San Francisco.

Our View: Pence snapped a 14-game drought without a homer, and now has 11 for the season. He was in need of a solid outing, as he was only 1-for-10 over his previous three games in July.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 6/28, 6:00 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Sunday in the Astros' loss to the Tigers. Pence is now hitting .316 on the season.

Our View: Pence is putting together a fine 2009 season, and he is once again a solid fantasy option in all leagues. He won't lead the league in any fantasy categories, but he can hit for some power and steal some bases, which keeps him a solid outfield option.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosThursday 6/18, 10:22 PM CT
Hunter Pence homered for the second straight game on Thursday, and third game in four, as Houston beat Texas 5-3.

Our View: Pence is finally having the breakout season in 2009 he was long expected to have. He is a top shelf option in NL only leagues, and a very solid option in mixed leagues.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/17, 10:20 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI as the Astros fell to the Rangers 5-4 on Wednesday.

Our View: Pence seems to have turned a corner in 2009 as he is hitting .328 with 38 runs scored. His numbers are held up due to the lack of offense that the Astros have produced this season, but if he keeps swinging this well, they should catch up.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 6/6, 9:36 PM CT
Hunter Pence had a huge night for the Astros' on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as Houston fell to the Pirates 6-2. Pence was 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, two runs, and two RBI in the loss.

Our View: Pence is hitting .347 on the year, which is outstanding, but his home run and RBI totals are not nearly as nice. The guy can hit, and you have to think that the other numbers will come. He should be owned in all leagues, but he is probably a third outfielder or bench player in deeper mixed leagues.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 6/3, 10:52 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 4-for-5 with a home run, a triple, three RBI, and two runs scored in Houston's 6-4 win over the Rockies.

Our View: Pence has a .346 average, but he is just on pace for 19 home runs, 69 RBI, 88 runs, and 16 stolen bases this season. Obviously the average is very attractive, but don't overvalue him for it.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosThursday 5/21, 10:42 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 2-for-4 with a home run in the Astros' 4-3 loss to the Brewers on Thursday.

Our View: Pence upped his average to .347 on the season and is having a solid fantasy campaign. He only has five homers, but his power will come around. He has five-tool ability.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/19, 10:51 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 3-for-4 in the Astros 4-2 loss to the Brewers on Tuesday.

Our View: Pence hasn't shown a lot of pop this season with just four homers and 15 RBI, but he is hitting .336 on the season with a .408 OBP. He's worth an outfield spot in mixed leagues, and his power will likely come around.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 5/10, 9:37 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored in Sunday's 12-5 win over the Padres. He hit third in the lineup with Lance Berkman sitting out.

Our View: Pence is off to a solid start and hitting third would only boost his value further. However, we fully expect the slumping Berkman to reclaim his spot in the batting order once he returns.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 5/8, 11:50 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 2-for-4 and drove in the game's only two runs on Friday as the Astros blanked the Padres 2-0.

Our View: Pence has been solid this season and is a guy who can help you in all offensive fantasy categories. He's hitting .315 with four homers, 13 RBI and four steals. Not bad for being surrounded by one of the coldest offenses in the sport.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 5/2, 7:33 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday's 5-1 win at Atlanta. He had a triple and two singles.

Our View: That was the first time he reached three hits in a game this season, but he failed to chip in any RBI. He has gone four straight games without an RBI.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosMonday 4/27, 9:01 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored in Monday's 4-1 win over the Reds.

Our View: This was Pence's first extra base hit in his last five games, but he is still slugging .521 on the season. After a slow start last season, Pence has looked very good in the first month of 2009.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/22, 10:12 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base as the Astros beat the Dodgers 6-5 on Wednesday.

Our View: Pence now has four home runs and three stolen bases this April. The 26-year-old had just 11 steals in his first two seasons, but the Astros want to be more aggressive on the base paths in 2009. Look for Pence to continue to receive the green light.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosThursday 4/16, 3:20 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, and a stolen base in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Pirates.

Our View: Fantasy owners are hoping Pence can take the next step this season. He has stolen 11 bases each of the past two seasons, but he appears to have the speed necessary to grab more bags.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/8, 11:55 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 2-for-4 and hit his second home run of the season in a losing effort on Wednesday.

Our View: Pence is a balanced young player that can help you in every fantasy category. He already had his sophomore slump, so this could be his big break out year. He's off to a good start.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 4/3, 11:03 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in Houston's win over Cleveland on Friday.

Our View: Pence had just seven spring RBI, but a big reason for his low production was a strained calf that hampered him for a bit. He should have no problem rounding back into form after a slow spring.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/24, 8:25 AM CT
Hunter Pence started two straight games and should be fine following his bout with a strained left calf, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Pence should hit for a solid average this season, and is yet to reach his power potential after crushing 25 homers in 2008. He is worth targeting as a top 15-20 fantasy outfielder.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/21, 8:41 AM CT
Hunter Pence expects to return to the diamond today against the Blue Jays following his bout with a strained left calf, according to the Houston Chronicle. Pence said, "I am ready to play. I feel strong, good, healthy and happy. It feels like your body does on a normal everyday basis. Just got to loosen up. That is all. Then you are fine."

Our View: Pence should be good to go for opening day, and should continue to be drafted among the top 15-20 fantasy outfielders.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosThursday 3/19, 8:49 AM CT
Hunter Pence will be limited to batting in the cage for a few days while nursing a strained left calf, according to the Houston Chronicle. Skipper Cecil Cooper said, "I am going to be a little cautious with him now. He has a little tender calf, left calf. The prognosis is we are just going to give him two or three days, let him go at his own pace a little bit."

Our View: The club is hopeful he will be ready to work in a full capacity again by the weekend. The ailment is minor, and Pence should not be dropped down draft boards.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/17, 3:00 PM CT
Hunter Pence exited today's game against Detroit in the fourth inning with a bruised left knee.

Our View: The severity of the ailment is yet to be determined. We will keep you posted on his status.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/10, 12:30 AM CT
Hunter Pence had a very nice game for the Astros on Monday, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a homer, two runs, and one RBI.

Our View: Pence is only batting .250 so far this spring, but his Monday performance was a good sign that he's getting back on track. If he improves his batting eye this season, Pence could experience a breakout in his third season.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/3, 11:34 AM CT
Astros outfielder Hunter Pence had his contract renewed by the team, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: The contract calls for Pence to take home $439,000. He is a solid outfield option for fantasy owners, but needs to improve his .269 average from last year.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 3/1, 7:12 PM CT
Hunter Pence didn't have a great day on Sunday as he struck out twice with just one hit in three at-bats.

Our View: If Pence becomes more patient at the plate and can improve on his .269 average from last season, he could be quite an asset in fantasy as he has some power and can steal bases as well.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 2/27, 5:24 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 0-for-1 but drew two walks and stole a base against Washington on Friday.

Our View: Pence has not been a very patient hitter in his first two major league seasons (66 walks in 1,051 at-bats), and it could serve as a nice boost to his game if he's developed better discipline to his at-bats. It could also result in more stolen bases than the 11 he's converted each year.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosMonday 2/16, 11:37 AM CT
Hunter Pence vows to be more careful this spring and not play as reckless, which led to several cuts and bruises when he slammed through a sliding glass door on the eve of the first full-squad workout in 2008, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "I'm going to be very slow about moving around. No, I would not say there are not any worries about that. I got everything covered, just be myself. But those are just some weird things you cannot really control. I do not think that is ever going to happen again, but the lesson is to make sure to go slowly through doors."

Our View: Pence is worth drafting as a top-20 fantasy outfielder, and has a shot at 30 homers and 20 stolen bases.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 9/19, 10:02 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 2-for-2 with three RBI, two walks and a stolen base on Friday as the Astros beat the Pirates 5-1.

Our View: Aside from his two home runs on Wednesday, Pence had reached base just once in the past six games so the 4-for-4 night should bust him out of his short slump.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/17, 9:52 PM CT
Hunter Pence hit two home runs on Wednesday night accounting for the the Astros' only two runs in their 14-2 loss to the Marlins.

Our View: Pence's two home runs were is 23rd and 24th on the year and were his first home runs since September 10. In the month of September, Pence has hit .320 and has raised his season average to .268. The numbers he has put up are not exactly what fantasy owners were hoping for after his rookie year, which saw him hit .322.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/9, 10:48 PM CT
Hunter Pence hit a ball off the left field wall in the sixth inning but the umpires wanted to review the play to make sure it was a double. After a short delay the umpires rules that it was a double.

Our View: The umpires have used video replays in a few insistence already since it was introduced.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosMonday 9/8, 11:03 PM CT
With his performance Monday night, 2-for-4 with a stolen base, Hunter Pence now has a 10-game hitting streak.

Our View: Pence has been heating up lately and has been a nice September surprise.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 9/6, 10:13 PM CT
Hunter Pence's two-run home run accounted for all of the runs in the Astros' 2-0 victory over the Rockies on Saturday night. It was his 21st of the season.

Our View: Look for Pence to have another good September just as he did in 2007. He is currently riding an eight game hitting streak.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 9/5, 7:35 AM CT
Hunter Pence could be a sleeper for a Gold Glove, as he is tied for the major league lead with 15 outfield assists and is yet to make an error, according to the Houston Chronicle. Pence said, "It’s something I like to focus on and take some pride in (playing good defense). The award would be an honor. I don’t go out there like I deserve a Gold Glove or this and that. I try to go out there and play the game the right way and help my team win."

Our View: Pence is also making a strong impact with his bat right now as well, as he is riding a six-game hitting streak, with five multi-hit efforts over the span.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 9/3, 10:52 PM CT
Hunter Pence continues to heat up as he went 2-for-4 Wednesday with a run scored in the Astros' victory.

Our View: Although the season as a whole has been a disappointment, if Pence continues his hot-hitting, he could be a fantasy playoff surprise.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 9/2, 11:37 PM CT
Hunter Pence helped lead the red-hot Houston Astros to a 9-7 win over the Cubs by going 4-for-6 with a double and triple.

Our View: Pence has fallen off from his great rookie season and had a bad August, but is still someone to put in fantasy lineups.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 8/30, 9:53 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Saturday's 8-5 win over the Cardinals. He hit a single and a three-run homer.

Our View: Pence is hitting just .190 this month coming in, but he now carries four homers for 10 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/20, 4:16 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 0-for-4, grounded into a double play and left six men on base in the Astros 5-2 loss to Milwaukee.

Our View: Not a great game for Pence, who has been alternating good and bad months all season. August has definitely been a bad month, as he is hitting under .200 so far.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 8/12, 10:24 PM CT
Hunter Pence came off the bench to hit a two-run home run and wound up going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI in the Astros 12-4 win over the Giants.

Our View: Pence has had a rough August, sinking his average a bit. However, he has had a decent year, with 17 home runs and over 60 RBI. Still, it's not quite what fantasy owners had hoped for after his outstanding rookie campaign.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 7/30, 11:26 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 2-for-4 and had an RBI, his 12th in his last 17 games played and 53rd on the year.

Our View: Though those numbers sound promising, it should be noted that Pence is hitting just .245 over his last 50 games and he has swiped only two bags in that time, scarcely the type of production that was counted on when he was drafted as a second outfielder this season.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 7/18, 10:07 PM CT
Astros outfielder Hunter Pence went 3-for-4 and drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth in Houston's 2-1 victory over Chicago.

Our View: Pence has struggled since the end of May, and his batting average had dropped 40 points from .303 to .263 before tonight's game. He is now at .269, and fantasy owners who had him last year know is is capable of delivering even more.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 7/18, 8:27 AM CT
Hunter Pence is looking to bounce back in the second half and regain his confidence at the plate that he possessed last season, according to the Houston Chronicle. Pence said, "I'm a real big advocate of mental toughness and believing in yourself. And I let a little doubt creep into my mind. I've got to get rid of that. I came to hit Thursday and kind of know what I've got to do. Just kind of worked on my swing, stopped stressing about it. Just kind of take a deep breath and play baseball the way I'm capable."

Our View: He proved to be an effective starter as a rookie last season, and could be worth stashing for the stretch run if you can acquire him for a bargain price.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 7/12, 9:15 PM CT
The Astros had to fight to hang on, but in the end they got the 6-4 win over Washington with a strong evening from outfielder Hunter Pence . Pence went 2-for-3 with one walk and his 12th homer of the season, posting three RBIs and one run scored for the effort.

Our View: Pence posted just three homers with nine RBIs last month. Tonight's dinger was his second for the month of July with six total RBIs thus far.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 6/7, 10:03 PM CT
Hunter Pence pushed his average up to .300 on Saturday thanks to three hits. He also scored a run and knocked in two for the Astros.

Our View: Pence was hitting .161 through 14 games this year causing many owner to curse the experts that recommended Pence. Hopefully you exercised some patience and held on to him, as he is currently doing a decent job of providing production at levels that owners were expecting.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/27, 9:59 PM CT
The red-hot Hunter Pence continued to rake Tuesday, going 5-for-5 in the 8-2 win over the Cardinals. Pence is batting .378 with six homers and 21 RBI in May.

Our View: Pence had four four-hit games last year, but this is the first five-hit game of his career.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 5/23, 9:47 PM CT
If you bought low on Hunter Pence after his slow April, you're now reaping the benefits. Pence hit a pair of solo homers Friday night and is now hitting a blistering .351 with six homers and 19 RBI this month.

Our View: It was only a matter of time before Hunter turned things around.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 5/20, 11:07 PM CT
Tonight was an opportunity for the Houston Astros to shine, and outfielder Hunter Pence led them along their way to a 4-2 win over the Chicago Cubs. Pence went 3-for-4 at the dish with his fifth home run of the year good for a grand slam, gathering four total RBIs on the grand slam.

Our View: Pence has been swinging a strong stick this month, going 24-for-67 with 17 RBIs over 17 games.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosMonday 5/19, 9:35 PM CT
Lost amidst all the hype of Lance Berkman's hit streak, few realized that Hunter Pence was working on a 16-game streak of his own, a streak that ended on Monday when Pence went 0-for-4.

Our View: Pence was robbed on a 415-foot bomb to center field that was snared, over the shoulder style, by Jim Edmonds. The hit streak raised Pence's batting average from .242 to .282, and he is right about where he should be, from a production standpoint, at this point of the season.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosMonday 5/19, 12:03 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Houston's win over the Rangers, extending his hitting streak to 16 games.

Our View: Pence is warming up and beginning to live up to his preseason expectations. Sunday's performance gives him six extra-base hits with 11 runs scored, 13 RBIs and a .564 slugging percentage in 59 at-bats this month -- an outstanding display of hitting after a meager showing in April (.680 OPS).
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 5/18, 11:59 AM CT
Houston outfielder Hunter Pence has extended his current hit streak to 15 games, going 1-for-4 in the Astros' 6-2 loss to the Texas Rangers on Saturday.

Our View: During that span, Pence has gone 21-for-60 with three home runs, 14 RBIs, and 11 runs scored. He has also added four stolen bases and raised his batting average from .250 to .284.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 5/16, 10:32 PM CT
Hunter Pence was productive in the leadoff spot as he went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in Friday's 16-8 loss to the Rangers. He also drew one walk.

Our View: He replaced Michael Bourn for the leadoff role, and is off to good start. If he stays, he will have a good chance to score a lot of runs while hitting ahead of Miguel Tejada and Lance Berkman in the Astros' order.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 5/16, 5:30 PM CT
Hunter Pence will be moving into the Astros' leadoff spot, according to the Houston Chronicle. Pence holds a .286 batting average and a .335 on-base percentage, and will be replacing Michael Bourn at the top of the order, as Bourn only has a .188 batting average over 144 plate appearances this season.

Our View: Pence also has 10 doubles, one triple, and five stolen bases this season, and has enough speed to excel in the leadoff spot.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 5/11, 7:43 PM CT
Astros' outfielder Hunter Pence continued his May onslaught by going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: Pence has 18 runs, 21 RBI, two stolen bases, four home runs and raised his batting average to .273 with today's three hit performance.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 5/4, 6:32 PM CT
Hunter Pence was 0-for-5 with three strikeouts on Sunday before launching a game-winning, two-run homer in the bottom of the 12th. It was the young outfielder's third long ball of the series.

Our View: All's well that ends well, right? Pence is beginning to pick it up a little bit after a quiet start. He remains a solid fantasy outfielder in all leagues.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 5/2, 11:02 PM CT
Hunter Pence enters May just like the Texas weather, warming up. The Houston outfielder hit a pair of home runs, one in the fifth inning and another in the eighth, helping the Astros beat the Brewers 7-4 in a come from behind victory.

Our View: Pence now has three home runs on the season along with his 14 runs scored, 13 RBI and one stolen base.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/30, 6:28 PM CT
Hunter Pence, batting in the leadoff spot, had two hits, scored a run, and knocked in one on Wednesday for the Astros.

Our View: The two hits today snapped an 0-for-10 slump for Pence, but he still has just 10 RBI and 11 runs scored in 27 games as he has failed to live up to the preseason hype that had him being selected very early in fantasy drafts.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 4/23, 10:02 PM CT
Hunter Pence did a little bit of everything on Wednesday night as he had three hits, two runs and two RBI for the Astros.

Our View: Pence now has a 6-game hitting streak which has seen his average go from .161 to .256. If Pence's owner is still frustrated with his slow start, this may be the last time you will be able to convince them to move Pence since a breakout appears to be coming.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 4/18, 11:13 PM CT
Hunter Pence, mired in a brutal start to the season which saw him enter the night hitting .161, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on Friday.

Our View: Pence has been a shadow of his fantasy relevant self of last season, but we are still talking about just a couple of weeks here so give him some time to hit his way out of it.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 4/12, 9:53 PM CT
Hunter Pence was moved up to the leadoff spot on Saturday, but the change did little to spark anything in his bat as he went 0-for-4 to drop his average to .180.

Our View: Pence has looked lost most of the season as he now has 13 K and just two BB on the year, not to mention that he has a measly single RBI in 12 games. It's way to early to call last seasons performance a mirage, but unless he starts hitting soon there are going to be a whole lot of owners wishing they had their pick back on draft day.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 3/19, 10:08 PM CT

Hunter Pence had three RBIs for Houston in a 7-4 win over the Braves, providing the Astros with what proved to be their winning runs with a two-run triple off Royce Ring in the fifth inning. Pence raised his average to .357 by going 2-for-4 and has eight RBIs this spring.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSaturday 3/1, 10:18 PM CT
Hunter Pence went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Saturday's loss to the Braves. Pence, who was brilliant with Houston last season, is currently over valued in most formats. Pence is being drafted before proven veterans, and considering the second-year outfielder has only 108 games under his belt, he comes with some risk. That said, he could also prove to be worthy of his current draft day status.

"Every day it seems to get a little better," Pence said. "It's not huge jumps, as it was when I was first rehabbing. But it's also a lot healthier than it was. It's gradually loosening up a little more and more. It's a little bit of a struggle to loosen it up, but once it gets loose, it's pretty capable of handling a lot of stuff."

Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosSunday 8/12, 9:37 PM CT
Hunter Pence worked on sliding before Sunday's game. He has been on the DL since July 23 with a wrist sprain suffered while sliding, the third time in his career he has been injured sliding. The Astros are trying to get Pence to change his technique to prevent future injuries. "I have a tendency to kind of roll," Pence said in the AP. "And when I do I put my wrists down. My whole life I've been sticking with my hands down and that's how I get hurt." Pence is being taught to hold his jersey as he slides.

Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 8/10, 8:52 PM CT

Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosWednesday 8/8, 11:03 AM CT
Hunter Pence hit soft tosses Tuesday for the first time in his rehab from a chipped bone in his right wrist. "It's definitely improving every day," said Pence in the Houston Chronicle. "(Tuesday) was my third day (hitting) off the tee. And they let me take five soft-toss pitches. I wouldn't say (it's) pain. It's more like discomfort and the strength being able to withstand the force of my swing, connecting with a baseball." Pence could be back later this month.

"He came in today with the wrist swollen and obviously very sore, so we had an MRI done and we got the results right before the game," Purpura said.

Our View: His injury with likely keep him from winning the N.L. Rookie of the Year award and will hurt many fantasy owners' seasons as well.

Hunter Pence said he intends to play on Monday despite leaving Sunday's game with a sprained wrist. "I've done this several times," he told the Houston Chronicle. "I tried to take out the second baseman behind the bag and went in sideways and jammed my wrist a little bit. I should be OK. Hopefully (today) I'll get some treatment on it and I'll be all right." X-rays taken after the contest were negative, and realistically, he's probably going to be a game-time call this evening.

Hunter Pence continued his hot hitting against Toronto on Friday, going 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. He's expected to begin the year in the minors, but he's certainly making a strong case for himself, hitting a blistering .722 (13-of-18) with two homers this spring.
Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosTuesday 3/6, 3:35 PM CT
Hunter Pence tripled and singled for the Astros Tuesday, and he now has nine hits in his last 10 at-bats this spring. He is hitting .750 (9-for-12) overall with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored. Hunter Pence, RF, Houston AstrosFriday 3/2, 4:27 PM CT
After going 0-for-2 in his spring debut Thursday, Hunter Pence, the Astros' top prospect, went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI on Friday. Given that he's never played at Triple-A, Pence is a longshot to make the team, but he could at least give the Houston hierarchy something to think about with a strong spring.
