Our View: McAnulty hasn't played in the majors since 2008 (with the Padres) and hit just .207 with three homers and 13 RBI. He was then picked up by the Red Sox and was leading Triple-A Pawtucket in homers (11) and RBI (48) before being released in late July. He now gets another chance with the Rockies.

Boston's scouting director (Jason McLeod) said, "It's not often that you get to sign a guy as an amateur and a minor-league free agent. I think he fits a lot of what we look for in the American League. If he comes in and wins a major league job, I think his swing will work for our ballpark. He's going to fight for a spot on our bench – left field and maybe first base. He really wanted to come here." |

| As rumors persist of a potential trade out of San Diego, Paul McAnulty continues to show he deserves a shot in the majors, be it with the Padres or elsewhere. The outfielder split time in left and right while going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and an additional run scored. That brings his spring average to .333 and while it would appear the Padres should have interest in putting him to use, McAnulty realizes that may not happen. “I’m in a pretty good situation, I think,” McAnulty told reporters after the game. “If these guys don’t want to keep me, maybe somebody else will find a use for me.” There are more than a few teams that could use his services, assuming the asking price from San Diego is right. If he does get moved, he could be a player to watch this season. |
