Paul McAnulty, LF, Boston Red SoxThursday 8/6, 9:19 AM CT
According to the Minor League Baseball transactions feed, the Rockies have signed outfielder Paul McAnulty to a minor league contract.

Our View: McAnulty hasn't played in the majors since 2008 (with the Padres) and hit just .207 with three homers and 13 RBI. He was then picked up by the Red Sox and was leading Triple-A Pawtucket in homers (11) and RBI (48) before being released in late July. He now gets another chance with the Rockies.

Paul McAnulty went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Thursday's 8-1 win over Toledo with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Our View: The 28-year-old vet holds no fantasy value while serving as organizational depth in the minors. The Sox have no room for him in their deep outfield.

Paul McAnulty has been reassigned to minor league camp by the Red Sox, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: McAnulty was unable to nail down a reserve spot with Boston out of spring training, but could be recalled at some point during the season for depth.

Paul McAnulty went 2-for-3 with four RBI in Tuesday's 9-8 loss to Cincinnati. He hit a two-run homer and a single.

Our View: He had a strong day at the plate while displaying power, but he unfortunately made a fielding error in left field, which will not help his chances of making the club as a reserve.

Paul McAnulty has signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Boston's scouting director (Jason McLeod) said, "It's not often that you get to sign a guy as an amateur and a minor-league free agent. I think he fits a lot of what we look for in the American League. If he comes in and wins a major league job, I think his swing will work for our ballpark. He's going to fight for a spot on our bench – left field and maybe first base. He really wanted to come here."

Our View: He has a shot to make Boston's roster in 2009, as he does a good job of getting on base and has favorable power.

Paul McAnulty cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Portland.

Our View: McAnulty was even less anemic than the other Padres and likely won't be back up any time soon.

Outfielder Paul McAnulty was forced out of Sunday's game against the Indians in the first inning due to a sore back, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He sustained the injury when Jamey Carroll hit a double over his head.

Our View: Edgar Gonzalez left second base to fill McAnulty's spot in right field, and Craig Stansberry came off the bench to cover second. The severity of the ailment is yet to be determined.

Paul McAnulty will start in left field and bat second on Tuesday against the Astros. It's his second straight game in that spot and the third time he's started in the last four contests.

Our View: The Padres have rotated McAnulty, Scott Hairston, and Justin Huber in left, and the arrow seems to be pointing a bit towards McAnulty at the moment. Basically, though, the trio is just keeping the spot warm until Chase Headley is called up.

As rumors persist of a potential trade out of San Diego, Paul McAnulty continues to show he deserves a shot in the majors, be it with the Padres or elsewhere. The outfielder split time in left and right while going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and an additional run scored. That brings his spring average to .333 and while it would appear the Padres should have interest in putting him to use, McAnulty realizes that may not happen. “I’m in a pretty good situation, I think,” McAnulty told reporters after the game. “If these guys don’t want to keep me, maybe somebody else will find a use for me.” There are more than a few teams that could use his services, assuming the asking price from San Diego is right. If he does get moved, he could be a player to watch this season.

Paul McAnulty could be traded by the end of spring training. The left-handed swinger is out of options and will probably have to beat out Jody Gerut for a job, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. McAnulty has posted pretty good numbers in the minors, but he's played very little in parts of three seasons for the Pads.

Paul McAnulty won't be cleared to play again for at least a couple of more days, as he continues to recover from knee surgery, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "It's a little disappointing, but health is obviously No. 1 on the list," McAnulty said.

Paul McAnulty is hitting .344 this spring, but he's still unlikely to win a bench job, mostly due to the fact that the Padres have a surplus of left-handed bats, according to the Union-Tribune. "But if you swing the bat the way Paul does, his time will come," manager Bud Black said. "It's tough to keep a player down who is hitting like that. He's gotta keep plugging, and he is. His attitude is great."
