Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/13, 4:39 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-7 loss to Houston in the Grapefruit League. He hit a single, double and solo homer off Bud Norris.

Our View: Zimmerman is batting .412 with two homers so far in spring training. The young third baseman looks to be the real deal after breaking out with 33 homers and 106 RBI in 2009, and a regression shouldn't be expected in 2010.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 10/3, 7:19 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the Nationals 6-4 win over the Braves on Saturday.

Our View: Zimm is having by far his best fantasy campaign, hitting .291 with 33 homers and 106 RBI. He set career highs in all three categories in 2009.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 10/1, 9:30 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with an RBI, in addition to scoring the winning run in the ninth inning, as Washington beat the Braves 2-1 in Atlanta.

Our View: If he can pick up five RBI in the Nationals' three remaining games, he will tie his career high of 110 from his rookie season of 2006.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 9/27, 3:49 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman socked his 32nd home run on Sunday, further extending his career-best total, but couldn't prevent the Nats from getting swept by the Braves, as Atlanta won 6-3 in ten innings in Washington.

Our View: With 32 home runs and 101 RBI this season, Zimmerman has established himself as an elite choice at third base for 2010.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/23, 9:17 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman's three-run home run brought him to an even 100 RBI on the season on Wednesday, and also helped the Nationals to a 5-4 win over the Dodgers at home.

Our View: The 100-RBI season is the second of his young, and sure to be long and productive, career.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 9/20, 3:22 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman started a ninth inning rally with an RBI double, but that's about all the Nats could get going on Sunday, as the Mets won 6-2 at home.

Our View: Zimmerman is now just three RBI away from his second 100-RBI campaign.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 9/18, 9:45 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a single and a two-run homer off Mike Pelfrey in Friday's 6-5 win at New York.

Our View: Zimmerman crushed his third homer of September, and reached 30 in a season for the first time in his career. He needs four more RBI to reach 100.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 9/6, 4:14 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman showed again on Sunday why he is the future of the Nationals franchise, smoking a game-winning two run home run off of Leo Nunez to lead the Nats to a 5-4 comeback win over the Marlins. He finished the day 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

Our View: Zimmerman looks long past his early career injury demons, and should be one of the first two or three third baseman off the board next season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/2, 5:46 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4 on Wednesday and collected exactly half of the Nationals total hits in a 7-0 loss to the Padres.

Our View: Zimm is coming off a red hot month of August, where he popped seven homers, drove in 23 runs and hit a blistering .350. He now has three hits in two September games and remains on a roll.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 8/27, 4:28 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman extended his career high home run total to 27 on Thursday, as the Nationals won 5-4 at Wrigley Field to take two out of three from the reeling Cubs.

Our View: Zim has now hit safely in 19 out of 24 games this month, and is looking like a top five third baseman for next season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/26, 10:26 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-3 on Wednesday for his tenth multi-hit game of August, but the Nationals still got blown at 9-4 at Wrigley Field.

Our View: Zimmerman has hit safely in 18 of the Nationals 23 games this month, and with 86 RBI on the season, looks poised for his first 100-RBI effort since 2006.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/19, 10:20 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman recorded a double and a triple in the Nationals' loss to the Rockies on Wednesday. Zimmerman also drove in two in the Nats' failed comeback attempt.

Our View: Zimmerman remains an excellent fantasy player on a team that doesn't have many of them. He has been hitting all season, and there is no reason to believe he will slow down. Zimmerman has finally had the kind of season that many have expected from him since he was called up.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 8/13, 8:46 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman got one of only two Nats hits off of Bronson Arroyo on Thursday night, extending his hitting streak to 16 games in the process.

Our View: Zimmerman is no stranger to long hitting streaks, and his current one is one of the only things Nats fans have to look forward to as the season winds down. After winning eight straight games, the team has scored just three runs in its current three-game losing streak.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 8/9, 3:59 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman's three hits and three runs helped the Nationals to a 9-2 over Arizona on Sunday, a three game sweep and their eighth straight win.

Our View: Zimmerman has gone 14-for-26 during the streak (.538). He has made a great case this season to be one of the first third baseman drafted next year.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 8/6, 4:22 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman's big day helped the Nationals sweep the Marlins on Thursday. The star third baseman went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as the Nats won 12-8 at home.

Our View: Looks like that shoulder is doing just fine. Zim would probably be a darkhorse MVP candidate this season if the team he was on wasn't so, so bad.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/5, 9:40 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman homered in his return to the lineup on Wednesday, helping the Nats beat the Marlins 5-4 at home.

Our View: Zimmerman proved again on Wednesday that he's a gamer, and a cornerstone player for years to come.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/5, 5:10 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman is back in the Nationals lineup on Wednesday after sitting out Tuesday with shoulder soreness, according to MLBlogs.com.

Our View: Zim's a workhorse, and should be ready to go on Wednesday. Get one of the Nats' lone bright spots back in your lineup as soon as possible.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/4, 4:57 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Nationals' third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is not in Tuesday's lineup due to a minor shoulder injury, according to the Washington Post. Zimmerman is being listed as day-to-day by the team.

Our View: The shoulder injury isn't serious, and Zimmerman told the media that he could play if he had to, but that it would be beneficial to give it a night off. He shouldn't be out for long, so Zim owners shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 8/4, 3:05 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman is not in the Nationals lineup on Tuesday, according to MASN.

Our View: No reason has yet been given for the absence. Willie Harris will take his spot in the field, while Josh Willingham will bat third.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/1, 9:13 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in tonight's 11-6 loss at Pittsburgh. He hit a double and two singles.

Our View: Zimmerman is riding a six-game hitting streak, with seven RBI over the span. He raised his batting average to .291 tonight as well.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 7/31, 8:53 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 1-for-3 with a solo homer off Ross Ohlendorf in tonight's 5-4 loss at Pittsburgh.

Our View: He closes out July with seven homers, and now has 20 for the season. The rising star should remain a solid source for power.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 7/30, 3:56 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman's three run, fourth inning home run drove in all the Nationals runs on Thursday, as the hapless Nats lost 7-3 in Milwaukee. They are now 32-70 on the season.

Our View: Without Zimmerman, the Nationals would probably be 22-80 this season. His production on an awful team has been impressive.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/29, 10:22 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with two RBI on Wednesday, but it went for naught, as the Nationals lost a battle of ineffective starting pitching 7-5 in Milwaukee.

Our View: Despite playing on the worst team in baseball, Zimmerman keeps further establishing himself as one of the top third basemen in baseball. Don't let him fall too far next year.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 7/26, 12:06 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was 3-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and four runs scored in the Nationals' 13-1 thrashing of the Padres on Saturday.

Our View: Zimm was hitting just .203 in July coming into Saturday's game, but he's now homered in two straight and has five hits in his last two games. He's come back down to Earth since the hitting streak, but is still a productive fantasy option at the hot corner.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 7/24, 9:40 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in tonight's 6-2 loss to the Padres at Nationals Park. He hit a single and a solo homer off Mat Latos.

Our View: Zimmerman hit his third homer of July, and his 16th of 2009. The rising star should remain a solid source for power among fantasy third basemen.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 7/24, 8:38 AM CT
The Nationals' current winning percentage, .295, is the fourth worst in the major leagues since World War II, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss.

Our View: Amazingly, they are currently on pace to post a worst record than the 51-111 2004 Arizona Diamondbacks. They are not yet on pace to be as bad as the 2003 Tigers, however, who went 43-119 for a .265 winning percentage. Obviously, the Nats will likely be sellers at the deadline, and if Ryan Zimmerman loses some of his protection in the lineup, namely Adam Dunn or Josh Willingham, he could see his production slip in the second half. Despite his wealth of talent and solid statistics, he could be a candidate to sell outside of keeper leagues for this reason.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/18, 9:39 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 1-for-3 with a single and two RBI in tonight's 6-5 loss to the Cubs at Nationals Park.

Our View: Zimmerman has 10 RBI in 12 games in July, despite a poor .192 average over 52 at-bats. He has 55 RBI for the season, and leads the Nats with 102 hits and 59 runs scored.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 7/16, 9:10 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Kevin Gregg in tonight's 6-2 loss to the Cubs at Nationals Park.

Our View: Zimmerman recorded his 15th homer, surpassing his season total of 2008. He should remain a nice source for power in fantasy leagues.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 7/13, 10:46 AM CT
Jim Riggleman will be the interim manager of the Nationals after the firing of Manny Acta, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The managing change should have minimal fantasy implications, unless Riggleman decides to name a permanent closer.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 7/13, 8:18 AM CT
Manny Acta has been fired as manager of the Washington Nationals after two and a half seasons, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The Nationals are a league worst 26-61 this season, good for an embarrassingly low .299 winning percentage. While things can hardly be blamed on Acta, the Nats have posted an abysmal .385 winning percentage during his tenure, and few can argue with canning a manager with that record, regardless of whose fault it really is.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/11, 3:05 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman will miss his second straight game on Saturday, according to The Washington Post.

Our View: Zimmerman was not out Friday because of a normal day after all, but actually the death of his grandmother caused him to miss the contest. He could be back tomorrow, but with it being the last game before the All-Star break, the team might give him one more day.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 7/10, 3:34 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman has been given his first day off of the season on Friday, according to The Washington Post.

Our View: Zimmerman has posted only two multiple hit games in June, so a day off should probably do the Nats' All-Star some good. Be sure to get him back in your lineup tomorrow.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/7, 11:08 PM CT
All-Star Ryan Zimmerman only had one hit Tuesday night, but he made it count, blasting a three run homer off of the Rockies Jason Hammel. Still, the Rox prevailed 5-4 in Denver.

Our View: After a long hitting streak to start the season, and a long slump to follow it up, Zimmerman has settled into a comfort zone, and is a top-tier third baseman in most formats.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 7/1, 4:36 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 0-for-5 on Wednesday in the Nationals 5-3 loss to the Marlins to snap an eight game hitting streak.

Our View: After a mini June slump that caused his average to dip below .300 for the first time since April, Zim has again been hitting consistently, and his 0-for-5 day on Wednesday isn't cause for alarm.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 6/29, 9:59 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 1-for-4 with a solo homer off Ricky Nolasco in tonight's 4-2 loss at Florida.

Our View: Zimmerman ended a 13-game skid without a homer, and has 13 for the season. He should remain a nice source for power with the struggling Nationals.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 6/25, 8:51 PM CT
Nationals team president Stan Kasten gave manager manager Manny Acta a vote of confidence on Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: And not the bad kind! He says he believes Acta is a "long-term solution" at manager and likened the embattled skipper to Bobby Cox. Doesn't sound like a man the team is about to can.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/23, 10:21 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman had only his third multi-hit game since June 4 on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 as the Nats got blown out 11-3 by the Red Sox.

Our View: Zimmerman has cooled off after his scorching start, but is still a very solid option at third base. It would be shocking if he finished the season batting below .300 or with fewer than 25 home runs.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 6/18, 8:44 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman upped his average five points on Thursday night, picking up three hits and an RBI, as the Nationals shutout the Yankees 3-0 to take two of three at the new Yankee Stadium. It was the first time the Yankees have been shutout in their new $1.5 billion stadium.

Our View: So the woeful Nats are the first team to silence the Bronx Bombers at baseball's most explosive hitting park. Baseball is a beautiful game, isn't it?
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/13, 8:17 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was productive in Saturday's 8-3 loss at Tampa Bay, as he went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.

Our View: The Nationals only had seven hits in the game. Zimmerman ended an 18-game drought without a homer. He continues to lead Washington with 42 RBI.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/2, 10:46 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 10-6 win over the Giants.

Our View: Zimmerman was in need of a solid performance, as he only registered one hit over his previous 19 at-bats. He is still hitting .322 for the season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/16, 3:23 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in the Nationals' 8-5 loss to the Phillies on Saturday.

Our View: Well the hit streak is no more, but there are still plenty of reasons to watch Ryan Zimmerman. The emerging third baseman is hitting .366 with nine homers and 29 RBI this season and is embarking on the breakout campaign that fantasy owners have been waiting for.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 5/15, 10:57 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman rebounded after losing his hitting streak by going 3-for-6 on Friday in the Nationals' 10-6 extra innings loss. Zimmerman had a double, an RBI, and two runs in the game.

Our View: Zimm didn't let the loss of his hitting streak get him down. Although it is over, expect him to keep hitting as the season goes on. Don't be surprised if he has another long streak before the year is over. He is that good.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/13, 6:02 PM CT
Well, it's over. Ryan Zimmerman's hitting streak officially ended Wednesday after he went 0-for-3 with two walks in the Nationals' 6-3 win over the Giants.

Our View: Zimm couldn't solve Barry Zito or the Giants' pen on Wednesday. Still he had a great run. Hopefully this doesn't go to his head and send him into a slump, but we have come to expect more out of Zimmerman than that. Besides, he's seeing beach balls this season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/13, 12:15 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was 2-for-5 on Tuesday night and extended his hitting streak to 30 games in the Nationals' 9-7 loss to the Giants.

Our View: Zimm didn't have to wait long as the streak continued with a first inning single off Matt Cain. He's got his average up to .364 and is having by far his most impressive season as a big leaguer. All eyes will be fixed on him as he tries to chase history this season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 5/10, 7:32 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman extended his hitting streak to 28 games as he went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored as the Nationals fell to the Diamondbacks 10-8 on Sunday.

Our View: Zimmerman is half way to Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak. The third baseman is hitting .336/.387/.568 on the season and is having his best year as a pro.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 5/10, 12:02 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman extended his hitting steak to 27 games in his last at-bat of the night Saturday. It happened to be a game winning home run that vaulted the Nationals to a 2-1 win over Arizona.

Our View: Zimm's streak is very impressive, but so are all of his numbers this season. He has six homers, 21 RBI and is hitting .336. Hitting streak aside, he's finally churning out the fantasy season owners have been waiting for for what seems like decades.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 5/4, 11:55 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman had a huge night at the dish on Monday, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, and two RBI.

Our View: Zimmerman has now hit in 22 straight games, and he is finally living up to his potential. He is a strong option in all leagues, but we will see if he can stay healthy all season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/2, 2:37 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a double and a run on Saturday. He extended his hitting streak to 21 games.

Our View: Zimmerman also pushed his season average over .300 in this contest. He is off to an excellent start and should continue to produce as long as he stays healthy.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 4/27, 10:00 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman cracked two home runs, drew two walks, scored three times, and recorded three RBI as the Nationals fell 13-11 to the Phillies.

Our View: Zimmerman had just two home runs entering the game. He has been a solid producer from the hot corner to start the season and as long as he remains healthy, we like his odds of having a nice season in Washington. He currently has a 15-game hitting streak.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 4/26, 3:57 PM CT
Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman went 1-for-4 on Sunday against the Mets and extended his hitting streak to 15 games.

Our View: You'd expect a guy with a 15-game hitting streak in April to be batting above .284, but we'll take it nonetheless. If the guys in front of Zimm were producing more, this cornerstone would probably look pretty darn good right now.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 4/19, 9:08 PM CT
The Washington Post reports that the Nationals have signed third baseman Ryan Zimmerman to a five-year, $45 million contract extension.

Our View: Zimmerman already has an injury history which makes this deal a risk. When healthy, he can be a slid contributor, but he's only slightly above average compared with other starters at the hot corner.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 4/17, 1:38 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman is nearing a long-term extension with the Nationals, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: Zimmerman is only hitting .243 so far, but has two homers and eight RBI over eight games. He has a bright future ahead of him, and is worthy of an extension with Washington.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/11, 10:20 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman hit his first home run of the season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Nationals fell to the Braves 5-3 and remain winless.

Our View: Zimmerman has gotten off to a slow start once again this season, but it was nice to see him hit one out of the yard. Fantasy owners have been expecting big things from Zimm for years and are perennially crossing their fingers, hoping this is the year.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 4/3, 7:36 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with two RBI against the Orioles on Friday.

Our View: Despite an unimpressive spring, the 24-year-old Zimmerman should still be among the top 10 third basemen taken in all drafts.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 3/30, 4:15 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman hit his first home run of the spring on Monday as the Nationals fell to the Tigers 3-2. It was his only hit in three at-bats.

Our View: While some are looking for a bounce back season for Zimmerman, his spring numbers leave a lot of hopes left unfulfilled. In 49 at-bats, he is hitting just .204 with two doubles and a home run.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 3/12, 4:16 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI Thursday in a 6-2 loss to the Braves. His double accounted for all the Nationals' offense and bumped his average to .348.

Our View: Zimmerman looks healthy this spring and is putting up quality numbers thus far, but it's going to take a lot for fantasy owners to forget what he put them through last season. Cross your fingers for a bounce back campaign.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/4, 3:46 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-3 with an RBI against the Mets in Wednesday's exhibition game. He's hitting .300 this spring, but has yet to show any real power.

Our View: Zimmerman aggravated a lot of fantasy owners last season, but is still a very talented player and could be a sneaky late round pick at third base.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 3/1, 8:51 AM CT
The Washington Post reports that Nationals general manager Jim Bowden resigned Sunday morning. "It is an emotional decision that saddens me, but one that I feel is in the best interests of the two things I love most-baseball and the Washington Nationals."

Our View: The reasons for Bowden's sudden resignation are unclear, but it is expected his involvement with the unveiling of pitcher Carlos David Alvarez Lugo's real identity and age has something to do with it. The organization has yet to name Bowden's successor, even on an interim basis.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 2/26, 7:18 PM CT
The Nationals have fired former major-league pitcher Jose Rijo, who was serving as a special assistant to general manager Jim Bowden, for his involvement in signing a Dominican Republican shortstop who lied about his age and name, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: A former World Series MVP, Rijo is credited with discovering Esmailyn Gonzalez at his Dominican baseball academy in 2006. Nearly three years after the Nationals gave the shortstop a $1.4 million signing bonus, it was reported that Gonzalez, who was 16 at the time of the signing, is actually 23-year-old Carlos David Alvarez Lugo.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 2/24, 8:10 AM CT
The Washington Post reports that the Nationals would like to get rid of GM Jim Bowden, and are waiting for reports on whether or not he has any involvement in a scheme that saw scouts and others skim signing bonuses from Latin American prospects.

Our View: Bowden is still under investigation, and an embarrassing episode took place under his watch in which his special assistant, Jose Rijo, signed a prospect for $1.4 million, only to find out he was four years older than once thought. Rijo has taken a leave of absence.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 2/22, 11:19 PM CT
Nationals GM Jim Bowden is being investigated for any involvement in skimming signing bonuses from Latin American prospects, according to the AP.

Our View: The FBI is doing the investigation, and Bowden's dealings as far back as 1994 are being examined.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 2/21, 10:48 AM CT
Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman still wants to sign a multi-year deal with the team before Opening Day, reports the Washington Post. "We have a good young team, a good core group of young guys, and that's the key," said Zimmerman, who recently signed a one-year deal to avoid arbitration. "You have to build a core of four to five guys and fill in the pieces of the puzzle around that."

Our View: Zimmerman, who as recently as the end of last season said he was unsure of committing long-term to an organization that could be a perennial loser, admitted that Washington's recent offseason moves have helped quell his concerns.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 2/20, 8:15 AM CT
The Nationals have avoided salary arbitration with Ryan Zimmerman by inking the infielder to a one-year deal, according to the Associated Press. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Zimmerman's 2008 season was spoiled by a torn labrum in his left shoulder, but he finished strong with five homers in September. He looks to be a solid value pick for 2009.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 1/23, 6:35 PM CT
Nationals GM Jim Bowden said at a team luncheon Friday that the team and third baseman Ryan Zimmerman are involved in ongoing negotiations on a long-term deal, according to the Washington Post. Bowden said that recent contracts signed by players such as Nick Markakis and Kevin Youkilis would provide the framework for Zimmerman's deal.

Our View: If there's one player the Nationals can build a successful franchise around, it's Zimmerman, who currently makes $465,000. Zimmerman is the face of the organization and thus will presumably recieve a significant amount of money to stay in D.C. for some time, if not the rest of his career.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/24, 11:14 PM CT
The AP reports that Ryan Zimmerman missed Wednesday's game against Florida with the flu.

Our View: Flu's can linger so don't be surprised if this shuts down the fragile Zimmerman for the rest of the season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 9/21, 3:58 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4, homered, and drove in two runs, but was the only source of offense as the Nationals lost to San Diego, 6-2.

Our View: Zimmerman is ending his season nicely, and fantasy owners should be taking notice as they think about next year.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 9/18, 10:06 PM CT
Washington third baseman Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-5, but left two men in scoring position as the Nationals fell to the Mets, 7-2.

Our View: Zimmerman has had a solid month, hitting over .304, but his power has been lacking all season. He hit four home runs in 11 games during late August and early September, but only has 12 this season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 9/3, 10:26 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was 2-for-4 with a home run Wednesday night against Philadelphia.

Our View: Zimmerman now has a nine-game hitting streak. During his streak he has shown plenty of power with three home runs and four doubles.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 9/1, 7:34 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman led the Nationals, the team with the worst record in baseball, to their 7th straight victory on Monday as he hit a two run home run.

Our View: Zimmerman reach 10 home runs with the blast, less than half the total of 22 that he has averaged the past two seasons. Still, his home run pace this season is similar to what he produced last season (one per 33.8 AB this season and one per 27.2 last year). He now has six RBI in his last five games as he continues to struggle through his injury concerns.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 8/27, 9:30 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman's home run in the bottom of the seventh inning proved to be the difference, as Washington went on to edge out the Dodgers 5-4.

Our View: Zimmerman was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, batting out of the third spot for Washington.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 8/23, 3:39 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-4 in Saturday's 9-2 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. All three of his knocks were singles.

Our View: That was his second straight multi-hit effort, and he is batting .333 (7-for-21) over his last five games, but only has one RBI over the span.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 8/4, 10:37 PM CT
Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman took batting practice twice on Monday and could be back in a matter of days, according to Nationals.com.

Our View: Zimmerman has been out since Thursday, when he was hit on the hand with a pitch. He is a viable fantasy candidate, though with little offense around him, his production will be somewhat limited.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 8/4, 10:47 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman has been out of action since Thursday due to a bruised right hand, but GM Jim Bowden indicated that he is not expected to land on the DL, according to the Washington Post.

Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 7/31, 9:28 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman left the game against the Phillies in the third inning after being hit in the hand with a pitch, according to The Sports Network.

Our View: An x-ray taken on the hand was negative, and Zimmerman is officially day-to-day.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/26, 11:44 PM CT
For the first time since coming off the DL, Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman failed to get a hit, as he went 0-for-3 with a walk in Washington's 6-0 loss to the Dodgers.

Our View: Zimmerman is 6-for-19 since coming off the DL, but he will be hard pressed to put up great fantasy numbers because of how poor Washington's lineup is.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/22, 4:11 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman has been activated from the disabled list. He had been on the 15-day DL since June 3 with a small labral tear in his left shoulder. He will take Dmitri Young's spot on the roster. Young was placed on the DL on Saturday.

Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/19, 10:53 PM CT
The Nationals plan to activate Ryan Zimmerman from the DL on Tuesday. He will replace Dmitri Young on the roster. Zimmerman is coming back from a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Our View: Hopefully Ryan isn't hindered at all by the shoulder in the second half. He wasn't hitting well before going down with the injury.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/15, 8:12 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman, who is recovering from a small labral tear in left shoulder, fared well in his first rehab game Monday at Single-A Potomac as he went 2-for-5, according to MLB.com. He started at the DH spot, and both of his hits went for doubles.

Ryan Zimmerman could be back with the Nationals as soon as Friday, according to the Washington Times. The third baseman will play at High-A Potomac on Monday and Tuesday and then move to Triple-A Columbus. If all goes well, he'll be back in the majors by this weekend. Zimmerman hasn't played since May 25 due to a labral tear in his left shoulder.

Our View: Fantasy owners should hold off on activating Zimmerman until he proves that his shoulder is healthy. There's no guarantee that he'll feel good during this rehab.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 7/12, 8:21 PM CT
The Nationals have announced a rehabilitation schedule for third baseman Ryan Zimmerman , according to MLB.com.

Our View: Zimmerman will go out to Class A Potomac for games on Monday and Tuesday in Salem, Va., and then join Triple-A Columbus for games from Thursday through Sunday. Zimmerman has been on the disabled list since June 3 with a labral tear in his left shoulder. He sustained the injury sliding into second in a May 18 game against Baltimore.

The Nationas watched injured third baseman Ryan Zimmerman take batting practice with the team this evening, his second consecutive day doing so, and he reports there is no pain or discomfort, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Zimmerman has been on the disabled list since early June because of a small tear in his left labrum. The Nationals are hoping that he returns to action by late July or sometime in August. The team also reports Zimmerman will most likely will get the day off on Thursday and have another batting practice session on Friday. During the Friday session, Zimmerman is expected to hit breaking balls for the first time.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 7/8, 8:22 PM CT
The Washington Times reports that Ryan Zimmerman took batting practice on the field Tuesday for the first time since late May.

Our View: The good news is that Zim (who has a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder) was hitting the ball pretty solid, driving it to the gaps. The not-as-great news is that he didn't say he wasn't in any pain, only that his shoulder felt better than it did back before he went on the DL.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 7/4, 12:54 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman took 40 swings, but did not hit a ball, in order gauge how his shoulder felt, according to the Washington Post. He hopes to start a rehab assignment after the All-Star break, but it's still possible he'll have surgery.

Our View: This is a small dose of good news, and signals Zimmerman may be on his way back. He is a productive fantasy third baseman when healthy, so keep an eye out on his progress as he is likely on your league's waiver wire.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 6/30, 4:44 PM CT
According to the Washington Times, Nats skipper Manny Acta said Ryan Zimmerman, who has been on the disabled list since June 3 with a small labral tear in his left shoulder, has been able to start lifting weights and is close to being able to swing a bat, two major steps in the third baseman's return. “He'll be swinging the bat this next week. He's doing very well,” Acta said. “He's making a lot of progress.”

Our View: Zimmerman was hitting far below his career numbers when he went on the DL. The third baseman had eight home runs, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored and was hitting .257 in 206 at-bats.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 6/29, 7:00 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman will likely begin to swing a bat next week, which is a good sign. He is out due to a small labral tear in his left shoulder, and he is trying to avoid surgery. The Nationals believe he will return this year, the Washington Post reports.

Our View: Zimmerman isn't close to returning, but this news suggests he could still help fantasy clubs later this year.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/11, 5:46 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was told by doctors that his injured shoulder will require him to miss at least another 4-6 weeks, according to the Washington Post. The team is still hopeful that he will be able to avoid surgery, though Dr. Tim Kremcheck reported that he gives the rehab only a 70% chance of working.

Our View: Zimmerman will undergo another series of tests during the all-star break, and if the shoulder hasn't healed by then, he will almost certainly have surgery which would end his 2008 season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/10, 7:04 PM CT
Washington third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is traveling to Cincinnati this evening to meet with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Tim Kremchek to undergo further examination on his ailing left shoulder, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The team believes he will not require surgery and the doctor will simply use this exam to determine a beneficial plan of rehabilitation. Zimmerman was batting .257 with eight home runs, 11 doubles and 27 RBIs in 50 games played before being placed on the disabled list.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 6/9, 7:02 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman began rehab exercises for his injured left shoulder Monday, according to the AP. The third baseman was set to have the shoulder re-examined later in the day. "I'm not going to go out there and not swing at a 2-0 fastball if I want to swing at a 2-0 fastball," Zimmerman said. "That's embarrassing to me and not good for the team. That's the biggest thing. I don't mind the pain. I can play through the pain. It's only going to hurt three or four times a game, but I have to be productive and I'm not going to take somebody out of the lineup who can hit a home run when I can barely hit the ball out of the infield."

Our View: Zimmerman thinks he can avoid surgery, but it will still be a long time before he'll return to the lineup. We'll continue to track his progress.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 6/7, 6:14 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman, on the DL with a small tear in his left shoulder, will not receive a cortisone shot and will be re-evaluated on Monday, according to the Associated Press. "Cortisone is helpful with certain injuries with certain players, but we don’t want to mask anything with it,” general manager Jim Bowden said.

Our View: Judging from the tenure of reports coming out of Washington, we are operating under the impression that Zimmerman will be lost for longer than 15 days as the Nats will proceed extremely cautiously with their cornerstone player.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/4, 9:20 PM CT
This evening's game pitting the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals has been postponed due to rain, according to MLB.com. The game will be made up as a day-night doubleheader on Thursday with Game 1 beginning at 1:10pm and the second coming at 7:10pm.

Our View: The teams have yet to announce plans for pitchers, so make sure you stay tuned to RotoTimes and Fanball. We will update as news becomes available.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 6/4, 10:27 AM CT
The first step in Ryan Zimmerman's rehab from a small labral tear in his right shoulder will be a week of rest and anti-inflammatory medication, and he will be re-examined afterward. He said, "I think I want to come back a lot quicker. But I think it's going to be a little bit longer. I don't know weeks or anything like that. It's going to be taken slowly, and they're going to be pretty strict about it." He added, "If I'm going to have to get surgery, if I can get to the point where I can play the rest of the year and be sure that I won't hurt anything, I think that would be the plan that I would go."

Our View: The Nationals are still seeking a second opinion from the Mayo Clinic and that opinion, along with his re-evaluation, will determine when he can return, and if he will need surgery.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 6/3, 10:47 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman has officially been placed on the 15-day DL, according to the AP. He has been brought down by a small labral tear in his left shoulder. The team recalled infielder Kory Castro from Triple-A Columbus to fill his spot on the roster.

Our View: The DL move is retroactive to May 26. It was believed that he could still play through the ailment following a cortisone shot, but that was not the case, as the team is playing it safe with their franchise third baseman. Aaron Boone will continue to cover third while he is out.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 6/2, 11:20 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman will be placed on the DL on Tuesday, the Washington Post confirms. The club doesn't know how much time he'll miss due to a small labral tear in his left shoulder. "I've had players who've had the same injury who took 10 days off, then played for five years," general manager Jim Bowden says. "Then I've had some who've been operated on. It can be anywhere in between, and we just don't know yet." Dr. James Andrews (Alabama), Dr. Timothy Kremchek (Cincinnati), and Dr. Robert Cofield (Minnesota) will all be consulted on Zimmerman's ailment.

Our View: The Nats are sparing no expense when it comes to assessing Zimmerman's injury. He is the cornerstone of the franchise's future, and they aren't going to fool around with this injury. All we can do is wait and see if he'll need surgery.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 6/2, 6:08 PM CT
An MRI has revealed a small labral tear in Ryan Zimmerman's left shoulder, the Ticker reports. Team physician Dr. Benjamin Shaffer has recommended anti-inflammatory injections and rest. Zimmerman will seek second, third and fourth opinions around the country.

Our View: We imagine Zimmerman is headed to the DL, at the very least. He can probably field decently, but hitting is going to be awful tough with a bum front shoulder. We'll let you know when more information and a timeline are provided.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 6/2, 9:51 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman will undergo an MRI today on his ailing left shoulder, according to the Washington Post. Results of the test will determine whether Zimmerman can play Tuesday, or whether he will require further rest and a possible trip to the DL. Manager Manny Acta said, "Well, I just hope for the best, obviously. He doesn't feel that it's anything serious, but not until we have the results from the MRI will we find out."

Our View: Zimmerman's injury has gotten better every day, but not to the point where he could play. He missed the last seven games. We will keep you posted on his MRI results.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 6/1, 2:27 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman remains out of the lineup on Sunday and will miss his seventh straight game. He is dealing with a sore left shoulder and may undergo an MRI, the Washington Post reports. "It's still a day-to-day kind of thing," Zimmerman explains. "It doesn't feel that bad today. We'll just see how it reacts with a day off (on Monday)"

Our View: Zimmerman is really pushing this "day-to-day" thing. Fantasy owners can't count on him returning Tuesday.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/31, 8:35 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman felt soreness in his ailing left shoulder during batting practice on Saturday, according to MLB.com. In the first two rounds of the batting session, Zimmerman was taking soft swings. By the fifth round he was swinging the bat harder. He stated, however, that he still felt soreness in his shoulder, and was not sure he would play in the Nationals' third game against the Diamondbacks on Sunday. He added, "We'll see how it feels tomorrow. I think that is the biggest thing. I didn't want to come out and try to hit 500-foot home runs. I was just getting the feel back. Let's see how much I can do and how much I can't do. We'll make a decision from there."

Our View: Zimmerman missed the last six games due to the ailment. We will keep you posted on his progress. Hopefully the injury won't linger, and he will be able to avoid the DL.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/31, 9:36 AM CT
The Nationals report third baseman Ryan Zimmerman missed his fifth consecutive game on Friday at Arizona as he continues to battle a sore left shoulder, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Manager Manny Acta reports the shoulder is improving but will be listed as day-to-day until further notice. The Nationals will update his progress each day and he could return to action at any time, but the desire to be cautious reigns supreme.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 5/30, 8:28 AM CT
Nationals' third baseman Ryan Zimmerman remains encouraged about the progress of his left shoulder, but on Thursday the injury kept him from the lineup for the fourth consecutive game.

Our View: Zimmerman injured the shoulder almost two weeks ago while sliding headfirst into second base against the Baltimore Orioles and after playing through the injury, has been shut down since Monday.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 5/29, 10:35 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman sat out his third straight game on Wednesday, and it is unclear when he may return to action, according to the Washington Post. Zimmerman said, "It's such a day-to-day thing, you can't ever say. I could show up tomorrow, feel great and play or I could show up for the next four days, not feel good and not play until we get home. So, we'll see. The big thing is just to not reaggravate it, because I've made so much progress. There's no reason to go out there and play when I'm almost back, then take a funny swing and start all over again."

Our View: His soreness has improved since Tuesday, and isn't likely to land on the DL. He is listed as day-to-day and Manager Manny Acta noted that he may be able to return before the Nationals return home, which would be June 3 against St. Louis.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/27, 8:03 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman is out of the lineup for the second straight day because of his sore left shoulder, according to the Washington Post. He told the Post his shoulder feels much better today than it did yesterday, though he said he would probably rest another day or two. "It's just soreness," Zimmerman said of his shoulder. "It's been checked out, and they said there's nothing structurally wrong with it. Basically just wait for [the soreness] to go away."

Our View: Zimmerman isn't likely to land on the DL at this point, but that could certainly change in the coming days.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 5/26, 7:10 PM CT
As expected, Ryan Zimmerman was in fact rested on Monday. The team decided to give the third baseman some relief for a sore left shoulder.

Our View: According to team sources, Zimmerman is expected to be back in the lineup on Tuesday when the team travels to San Diego for the first of a three-game tilt.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 5/25, 9:40 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman will sit out on Monday to rest his sore left shoulder, according to the Washington Post. Manager Manny Acta said, "He'll be out of the lineup tomorrow. I gave him the option, today's a left-handed pitcher, he'll go today. And then he'll take Monday off. But it's a playable thing. He's been playing through it. So he is going to have a day off on Monday, just a day off to give it some time. It's nothing serious. We wouldn't have our franchise player out there playing with something serious."

Our View: The injury is minor and he is going to play on Sunday. Fantasy owners shouldn't be concerned about the ailment, and Zimmerman said the shoulder is just sore.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 5/25, 8:08 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman admitted that he has been playing with a sore left shoulder for almost a week, according to MLB.com. He injured the shoulder on Sunday against the Orioles. Zimmerman said, "It's sore, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. If there was anything wrong with it, I wouldn't play. I'm still playing, so that's good."

Our View: Zimmerman extended his hitting streak to eight games against Milwaukee on Saturday, and the ailment is not holding him back. He is safe to keep active in your lineups.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/24, 7:46 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman extended his hitting streak to seven games on Friday night with a double in three at-bats. Zimmerman has a solid piece of work in May hitting .291 with 14 RBI and five home runs.

Our View: The Nationals third baseman needs desperately to improve his strikeout to walk ratio (38:9) if he's ever to join the fantasy elite as a corner infielder.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 5/17, 10:24 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman remained hot on by hitting a solo home run off winning pitcher Brian Burres on Saturday night.

Our View: Zimmerman now has eight home runs on the season to go along wtih 22 runs and 24 RBI.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsFriday 5/16, 9:03 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 3-for-5 with two RBI in Friday's loss to the Orioles.

Our View: Zimmerman now has five homers and 10 RBI through 15 games in May. He has 15 hits over the span as well. He is starting to come around following a disappointimg start.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsTuesday 5/13, 9:31 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman hit his sixth home run of the season on Tuesday though his average is still languishing at .239.We

Our View: We warned you all preseason to be wary of Zimmerman early in the year because of those off-season wrist surgeries. The season still has a long way to go, but this certainly doesn't appear to be anything resembling a breakout year for Zimmerman.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 5/7, 10:19 PM CT
The Nationals may have suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss at the hands of the Houston Astros, but 3B Ryan Zimmerman put his best effort forth to reverse the fortunes and came up just a bit short. Zimmerman went 3-for-4 at the dish, hitting two home runs (both off Roy Oswalt) to total three RBIs.

Our View: Zimmerman hasn't been the offensive power the Nats need, but tonight's performance against one of the best pitchers in the NL shows the potential for better days is on hand.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 5/4, 11:12 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman is out of the Nationals' lineup today, according to the AP. He asked for and received the day off, and will end his consecutive-games streak at 205 (if he isn't used as a pinch-hitter), which was the second highest active streak in the league behind Jeff Francoeur's 355.

Our View: Zimmerman and Manager Manny Acta met in spring training and decided that there was no reason for the third baseman to play a full 162-game schedule. Zimmerman said, "This has nothing do with me being beat up or me not doing so well at the plate or anything."
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/30, 8:14 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 0-for-4 on Wednesday as the Nationals 2-7 hitters went 0-for-24 against the Braves.

Our View: Zimmerman's wrist must not be healed as he is clearly nowhere near the hitter he has been in the past. Besides the awful average, Zimmerman has only three home runs in 116 AB and it certainly appears that there will continue to be some lean times for a while until that wrist is back to full strength.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSunday 4/27, 5:20 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman made his 200th consecutive start on Saturday but still can't shake his funk at the plate. The Nationals' third baseman was 0-4 seeing his early season average drop to .222.

Our View: Zimmerman has only two home runs, nine runs scored and 10 RBI in 108 at-bats.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/23, 2:17 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman has played in 195 straight games, according to MLB.com.

Our View: That is good that he has something to be proud of, as he is only hitting .225 over 89 bats, with a mere four walks and 15 strikeouts. He also only managed to hit two homers over 21 games so far. His fantasy stock has dropped, and will continue to do so until he can turn things around.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 4/21, 9:50 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman had two hits on Monday in five AB but his batting average still rests at an unacceptable .226.

Our View: Tonight the 3-6 hitters in the Nationals lineup all were hitting under .240, but none of them is supposed to be the force that Zimmerman is. The wrist surgery that Zimmerman had in the off-season appears to have sapped a lot of power from his swing, and things aren't looking particularly good for him right now.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/12, 4:40 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-3 on Saturday with an RBI to up his average to .220 for the Nationals.

Our View: This was Zimmerman's first RBI in nine games as he has struggled at the plate most of the past week including a 0-for-16 stretch the previous four games.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 4/12, 11:45 AM CT
Manager Acta commented on Ryan Zimmerman's current 9-for-47 slump, according to MLB.com. Acta stated, "I know he is struggling right now and he is probably trying to get out of it with one swing of the bat, but he'll be fine. He has been through this before."

Our View: Hopefully he can get on track against Atlanta today, but it won't be easy with John Smoltz on the hill.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 4/10, 1:57 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman has fared well over his short career against the Marlins as he generated 26 RBI against them, according to MLB.com. He will have a good chance to add to that total today as he faces Florida hurler Mark Hendrickson, who is 1-1 with a 6.40 ERA.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 4/2, 8:46 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman hit his second home run of the young season and posted his third RBI for the Nationals on Wednesday. Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 3/24, 3:33 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman hit his fourth home run of the spring on Monday in a loss to the Tigers. Zimmerman is quietly having a solid spring. Those who were concerned about his hip should not been influenced by the ailment on draft day. Zimmerman is a starting option at third base in any fantasy format.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsMonday 3/17, 5:22 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman was nursing a sore hip flexor, but played through the ailment on Monday, and admirably went 2-for-4 while collecting his eighth RBI of the spring. He is enjoying a solid spring as he is batting .360 (9-for-25), and his performance today proves there is nothing to worry about regarding his hip ailment.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 3/15, 2:58 PM CT
The Nats will be cautious with Ryan Zimmerman and hold him out of exhibition action this weekend, according to the Washington Post. "It's playable," manager Manny Acta said. "We don't want to take any chances. I would guess we'd see him Monday against the Mets." Zimmerman's been dealing with a sore right hip flexor since Tuesday. If he is back in action Monday, there should be nothing to worry about.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 3/12, 7:29 AM CT

The Nationals renewed Ryan Zimmerman's contract on Saturday, so he'll make $465,000 this season, according to MLB.com. The two sides still hope to work out a long-term extension, but Zimmerman wants more than the Nats are offering. He'll be eligible for arbitration after the upcoming season.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsSaturday 2/23, 4:41 PM CT
GM Jim Bowden talked at length with the media concerning Ryan Zimmerman's long-term contract negotiations. The Washington Post reports that talks between the two sides have not produced much progress. "We've made it clear to [Zimmerman] that if Ryan is willing to sign a contract that is similar to what all the other good young players are signing for -- if he's willing to do a market signing, we are prepared to do that with him. We're not going set all new markets with him. We're not going to change the pay scale of Major League Baseball for one player. At this point, we're not close," Bowden said. Zimmerman had no comment on the negotiations and only said he was in camp to play baseball.

Ryan Zimmerman underwent a follow-up procedure Tuesday to clear a hematoma that resulted from last week's surgery on his left wrist. The surgery evacuated a small blood clot that was causing compression within Zimmerman's carpal tunnel, according to the Washington Post. The procedure isn't expected to impact Zimmerman's preparation for spring training.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 11/8, 11:52 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman underwent successful surgery on his left wrist Wednesday night, according to the Sports Network. He suffered the injury during batting practice last weekend. Zimmerman is expected to full recovered after 4-6 weeks of rehab, so this shouldn't be an issue come spring training.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsWednesday 11/7, 11:06 AM CT
Ryan Zimmerman broke a minor bone in his left wrist while swinging a bat over the weekend. The injury will almost certainly require surgery, but it's not expected to hinder his preparation for the 2008 season, according to the Washington Post. "We're really kind of lucky that it happened now," Zimmerman said. "It's just one of those things where it can happen at any time. It's just in a weird place where you put the bat on your hand, and there's so much force going through there." Zimmerman said he had problems with the wrist late in the 2007 season and that doctors suspected he may have fractured the bone earlier. "They think it was just a bunch of wear and tear from the past two or three years from where I might have done it before, and it kind of healed on its own," he said. "My hands were bothering me sometimes, but if I'm good enough to play and help the team, I'm going to go out there." The recovery time from the surgery is expected to take 4-6 weeks.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, Washington NationalsThursday 7/19, 12:59 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman sustained a bruised right wrist during the ninth innings of Wednesday’s game. The injury occurred when a ground ball hit him there. "He got hit pretty hard," manager Manny Acta told the Washington Post. "He's a tough kid." Consider Zimmerman day-to-day, but he likely will play in this weekend’s series with the Rockies.
