Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 1/19, 7:34 PM CT
The Orange County Register reports that catcher Mike Napoli has avoided arbitration by agreeing on a one-year deal with the Angels.

Our View: Napoli had another nice season behind the plate, hitting .272 with 20 homers and 56 RBI last year. He now has consecutive 20-homer seasons and is a nice power option at a thin position in fantasy leagues.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 10/17, 7:01 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Mike Napoli will start behind the plate for the Angels in Game 2 of the ALCS.

Our View: Napoli gets the call over Jeff Mathis due to the fact that he regularly catches Joe Saunders, who is on the mound tonight. Napoli will provide a bit more pop for the Halos, who managed just one run against CC Sabathia and the Yankees in Game 1.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 10/9, 11:23 AM CT
Mike Napoli will get the nod behind the plate for the Angels in Game 2 on Friday, according to the LA Times. Napoli will start in favor of Jeff Mathis, who made the start in Game 1.

Our View: The Angels must feel like they need as much offensive firepower as possible tonight, because starter Jeff Weaver has pitched considerably better this season with Mathis behind the plate. Weaver has a 3.38 ERA throwing to Mathis compared to a 4.59 ERA with Napoli behind the plate.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 10/4, 6:47 PM CT
Mike Napoli went 2-for-3, scored three runs and hit his 20th homer of the year as the Angels closed out the regular season with a 5-3 win over the A's.

Our View: Napoli now has two consecutive seasons with exactly 20 home runs, but it took him 382 at-bats in 2009 to get there. Last season he needed just 78 games and 227 at-bats to reach the total. Still, he's a great source of power at a position where it comes at a premium.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/21, 9:32 PM CT
Mike Napoli hit a three-run homer in the Angels' 5-4 loss to the Blue Jays on Friday. It was his only hit in four trips.

Our View: Napoli now has 17 bombs on the season and with his .297 average is one of the better fantasy plays at catcher this season. The long ball was his first this month though.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 7/31, 10:54 PM CT
Mike Napoli went 4-for-6 with an RBI in tonight's 11-5 win at Minnesota. He hit three singles and a solo homer off Matt Guerrier.

Our View: Napoli homered in five of his last 10 games, and should remain a nice source for power as long as he gets regular playing time.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/22, 11:07 PM CT
Mike Napoli went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer off Roman Colon in tonight's 9-6 win at Kansas City.

Our View: Napoli hit a homer in two of his last three games, and has 13 for the season.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/21, 7:28 PM CT
Mike Napoli went 2-for-4 with a single and a solo homer off Sidney Ponson in tonight's 8-5 win at Kansas City. This was the first game of a doubleheader.

Our View: Napoli started the game at DH, and now has 12 homers for the season, with two coming this month.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 7/11, 6:57 PM CT
Mike Napoli went 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 14-8 win over the Yankees at Angel Stadium. He hit a double and a solo homer off Brett Tomko.

Our View: Napoli hit his first homer of July, and his 11th of the season. He is expected to see more starts in the DH role while Vladamir Guerrero is on the DL, which will put less strain on his knees than working behind the plate.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 7/10, 2:28 PM CT
Mike Napoli will see extensive playing time at DH while Vladimir Guerrero is out with a strained knee muscle, according to MLB.com.

Our View: This is good news for Napoli owners, as he has batted .471 when used as a DH this season (which has only been nine times, however), as opposed to .247 when he's behind the plate. If you are in a smaller league and he is unowned for some reason, now could be a good time to snatch him up.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 6/27, 7:15 PM CT
Mike Napoli registered half of the Angels' six hits against Arizona on Saturday, including a home run in the top of the ninth to break a 1-1 tie in the eventual 2-1 victory.

Our View: Napoli continues to platoon with Jeff Mathis at catcher but is clearly the far superior option at the plate. He upped his batting average to .295 on the season and has now logged a double-digit home run total in all four of his major league seasons.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 6/17, 12:10 AM CT
Mike Napoli led the Angels offensively in Tuesday's 8-1 win at San Francisco, as he went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Most of the damage came on a three-run homer off Jonathan Sanchez, and he also had a double and two singles.

Our View: Napoli has a four-game hitting streak, with five RBI over the span. Keep him active in fantasy leagues.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 6/4, 2:46 PM CT
Mike Napoli went deep for the Angels on Thursday in their 6-5 win over the Blue Jays. Napoli was 1-for-4 on the day with the solo shot.

Our View: Napoli continues to be a home run machine, and he now has eight on the season. Napoli is kind of a boom or bust player, the he has plenty of boom in his bat right now. He should be owned in all leagues, at least as a backup if you have someone more consistent in front of him.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/13, 11:49 PM CT
Mike Napoli hit his fifth home run of the season on Wednesday as the Angels defeated the Red Sox 8-4. Napoli went 2-5 in the game with a run scored and 3 RBI.

Our View: Napoli has had an outstanding start to 2009, and he is still the power threat he has always been. He should be owned in all leagues, especially since he is hitting .318 on the year.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 5/7, 11:43 PM CT
Mike Napoli was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored in the Angels 6-1 win over the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Our View: Napoli was in a mini-slump as he had gone 0-for-4 in each of his previous two games. While that was par for the course last season, the 27-year-old is hitting .328 in '09. We have to think a real slump is on its way, but maybe he's turning the corner and on his way to becoming a top offensive catcher.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 4/25, 12:13 AM CT
Mike Napoli homered and went 2-for-3 in the Angels 8-3 loss to the Mariners on Friday. The home run was his third.

Our View: Napoli now has three homers this season in just 34 at-bats. He's got pop, but his playing time is too inconsistent to be considered a fantasy staple. And he's only hitting .265.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 4/18, 8:58 AM CT
Skipper Mike Scioscia noted that Mike Napoli could serve in the DH role on days that he is not working behind the plate (while Vladamir Guerrero is on the DL), according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: This would bode well for fantasy owners, as Napoli would see more at-bats. Guerrero is expected to miss a month with a torn pectoral muscle.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 4/11, 7:46 PM CT
Mike Napoli had a 3-for-3 day at the plate and popped two over the wall on Saturday in a losing effort to the Red Sox. Both of his home runs were solo shots.

Our View: Napoli is a legitimate power threat, but he's splitting time with Jeff Mathis and the Angels don't have anywhere to put him while he's not catching. He's a good source of pop if you monitor his playing time and have someone to plug in when he's out of the lineup.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 4/8, 8:30 PM CT
The Orange County Register reports that Mike Napoli will make his first start of the season at catcher for the Angels when they take on the Athletics on Wednesday. He is coming off of offseason shoulder surgery.

Our View: No one hit more home runs per at bat last season than Napoli. Catcher Jeff Mathis has also gotten off to a good start this season and it remains to be seen how the catchers will split up the playing time. Currently Vladimir Guerrero has to DH due to tightness in his chest.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 3/18, 9:15 AM CT
Mike Napoli does not appear close to catching in a Cactus League game while recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, according to the LA Times.

Our View: Napoli could still serve as the DH at the start of the season if not ready to catch. Jeff Mathis would be the No. 1 catcher until Napoli is ready.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 3/12, 8:36 PM CT
Mike Napoli was 0-for-3 with a walk while also getting caught stealing against Colorado on Thursday.

Our View: It was nice to see the stolen base attempt from Napoli, who does have decent speed for a catcher, though it hasn't been nice to witness his struggles at the plate thus far, as he's batting just .167 (3-for-18) thus far. Napoli was serving the DH role on Thursday, as his shoulder is still keeping him out of the field and may still be a problem at the start of the year. He'll have to prove he can get on base more consistently if he wants to see significant time at DH before his shoulder heals.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 3/6, 12:49 PM CT
The LA Times believes it is doubtful that Mike Napoli will be ready to go for opening day. He is recovering from a surgically repaired shoulder. Skipper Mike Scioscia said, "We will have an idea over the next few weeks whether opening day is a probability or a longshot. One thing is certain: Out of the chute, playing every day might be a bit of a stretch. We will have to see where his stamina is. He is going through a normal rehabilitation, where you are breaking through adhesions."

Our View: Napoli may still be able to serve as the DH at the start of the season. Jeff Mathis would be the No. 1 catcher for opening day if Napoli is not ready.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 3/4, 7:53 PM CT
MLB.com reports that catcher Mike Napoli threw on Wednesday and had no problems whatsoever with his surgically repaired shoulder.

Our View: There will likely be some soreness as Napoli begins to strengthen his arm, but it appears as if the surgery was a success. He has hit well as a DH this spring and he should be ready to catch by opening day.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 3/2, 12:11 AM CT
Mike Napoli served as the Angels' DH again on Sunday, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.

Our View: Playing Napoli as a DH for a bit is a smart move as it will not only help his recovering shoulder but it could keep his legs a bit fresher heading into the season.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 2/25, 5:35 PM CT
Mike Napoli started at DH for the Angels in their 12-3 win over the White Sox on Wednesday. He was 1-for-2 with a two-run double in the game.

Our View: Napoli had shoulder surgery in October, and it could be a couple weeks before he is back behind the plate. However, even if he is not ready to catch by opening day, which is a possibility, he would still see some time at DH as hitting does not seem to be a problem.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 2/16, 1:38 PM CT
Mike Napoli may not be ready to serve behind the plate on opening day while recovering from October shoulder surgery, according to the LA Times. Manager Mike Scioscia said, "We are going to err on the side of caution if he needs to be held back a bit. He will be ready when he is ready. There is no calendar, no schedule, you cannot look at April 6 and say you have to be ready by then. You are going to go through all the [throwing] progressions, and when you are ready, you are ready." He is scheduled to begin throwing within the next 7-10 days.

Our View: He may not catch at the beginning of the season, but could still see time in the DH role. As of now, Jeff Mathis looks to be the opening day catcher.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 1/19, 4:29 PM CT
The LA Times reports that catcher Mike Napoli has signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Angels. Napoli and the team were less than a day away from exchanging arbitration figures.

Our View: It's likely Napoli's arbitration figures would have been significantly higher than the $2 million he signed for, especially given the fact the right-handed backstop set career-highs in nearly every offensive statistical category a season ago.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 1/16, 3:09 PM CT
Mike Napoli could serve as the Angels' DH next season, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Napoli has durability issues and solid power potential, meaning it would make sense for him to serve in the less stressful DH spot with Jeff Mathis working as the No. 1 catcher.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 12/8, 1:30 PM CT
The Tigers had interest in Angels' catcher Mike Napoli prior to dealing for Gerald Laird, according to ESPN.

Our View: The Tigers liked Napoli, but felt his price tag was too high. They passed on Jason Varitek as well, since they would have to part with draft picks to sign him.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 12/8, 12:17 PM CT
There is speculation that the Red Sox may be interested in one of the Angels' catchers (Jeff Mathis or Mike Napoli ) to replace Jason Varitek, according to the LA Times.

Our View: Napoli is believed to have more trade value, and the Red Sox would likely have to part with Justin Masterson to acquire him.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 10/5, 11:50 PM CT
Mike Napoli took Josh Beckett deep twice on Sunday night as the big bat in the Angels 5-4, 12 inning victory over the Red Sox. On the night, he went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Our View: Napoli blasted both his shots over the Green Monster on this night, and dating back to the start of the 2008 campaign he has 22 home runs in just 236 AB which would equate to a total of 47 in 500 AB. That our friends is some serious slugging.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 9/28, 6:59 PM CT
Mike Napoli was 3-for-3 with four RBI and a home run in Sunday's 7-0 win over Texas.

Our View: The slugging catcher hit .453 in 53 September at bats. He had six home runs (and a triple) and 16 RBI in that stretch.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 9/25, 8:57 AM CT
Los Angeles catcher Mike Napoli had three hits for the second straight game on Wednesday. He has 13 hits in his last 20 at-bats.

Our View: Earlier in the week Napoli missed the cycle by a single. His average is up to .259 after hovering in the .220s most of the season.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 9/19, 11:07 PM CT
Catcher Mike Napoli missed the cycle on Friday by a mere single in the Angels' 15-13 win. Yes, Napoli hit a triple. He also hit his 18th home run in just his 72nd game of the season.

Our View: Napoli pumps up his already sexy slugging percentage to well over .500. Now if he was only a little more consistent. The catcher is hitting .234 and has 66 strikeouts in just 209 at bats.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 9/18, 5:33 PM CT
Angels catcher Mike Napoli hit his 17th home run of the year in the Angels' 6-4 win over the A's.

Our View: Napoli has contributed solid power numbers this year, hitting 17 home runs in 71 games. Even though the power numbers are there he is only hitting .220 and has struck out 65 times in 204 at-bats.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 9/12, 11:56 PM CT
Mike Napoli continues to hit the ball hard when he hits the ball at all. On Friday, the backup catcher hit his 16th home run of the season in the ninth inning and added another hit to finish the night with four RBI. The Angels followed Napoli's blast to a 5-3 victory.

Our View: Napoli is hitting a paltry .226 but he has provided good power from the catcher's position in less than 200 at bats this season.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/28, 12:55 AM CT
It was an interesting night for Angels catcher Mike Napoli, going 0-for-1 at the plate but grinding with three walks, adding two runs scored to the stat line.

Our View: In spot action, Napoli has been solid, hitting .333 with just seven strikeouts over 25 at-bats.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/8, 8:02 PM CT
Mike Napoli was activated from the DL on Friday night and he will be in the starting lineup on Saturday, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View: Naploi has been out since July 7th with right shoulder inflammation, should return to being the power hitting, low average bat that he has been since joining the Angels. Look for he and Jeff Mathis to return to splitting the catching duties for the club.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 8/6, 3:03 PM CT
Mike Napoli is expected to be activated from the DL Friday prior to the Angels contest against the Yankees, according to Angels.com. He has been recovering from irritation in his right shoulder.

Our View: Napoli has hit .500 with one home run and three RBI over 10 at-bats with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, and is also throwing the ball great as a catcher. He will platoon with Jeff Mathis when he returns, and will remain a solid source for home runs (12) from the position, but leaves a lot to be desired with a .204 batting average.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 8/1, 7:48 AM CT
Angels catcher Mike Napoli is set to begin a rehab assignment tonight in Class-A that will last roughly five or six games, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View: Napoli has a nice home run total with 12, but that .204 batting average and .308 on-base percentage are tough for fantasy players to deal with.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 7/28, 6:56 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Angels catcher Mike Napoli went through what Angels manager Mike Scioscia described as a "full workout" on Monday afternoon at Fenway Park, putting him on schedule for a return to game action this weekend - most likely with Class A Rancho Cucamonga in the California League.

Our View: Napoli is slugging .472 this season but carries just a .204 average. He will likely platoon once he returns to the majors. Unless he brings up the average, he has very little fantasy value.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 7:13 PM CT
Mike Napoli (shoulder) will join the Angels on Friday though he is still a ways away from returning to the lineup, according to MLB.com. Napoli has been throwing since Monday, playing catch at 90 feet, but the team has still not commented as to when he will be back behind the plate.

Our View: Napoli appears to still be at least a week away from returning, so Jeff Mathis owners can breathe a sigh of relief, at least for now.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 7/18, 10:51 AM CT
Mike Napoli was hopeful to resume swinging a bat and throwing on Thursday, but his ailing right shoulder needs more time to return to full strength, according to the LA Times.

Our View: He will be held back until at least early next week. Jeff Mathis will continue to start at catcher until Napoli is ready to return.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 7/8, 3:07 PM CT
Mike Napoli underwent an MRI on Monday which confirmed he is suffering from shoulder irritation, according to the OC Register. Skipper Mike Sciosca said, "It’s more of a relief than anything. There’s a lot of things that can happen with a shoulder and that’s an area you need to do a lot of things. We’re relieved. Once the inflammation comes out of there and he gets some strength back in that shoulder, he should be able to get back with us and we’re going to need him."

Our View: Napoli is expected to rejoin the Angels in Texas on Tuesday and begin a rehabilitation program. Jeff Mathis is also expected to get nearly all of the work at catcher until Napoli returns.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 7/7, 12:49 PM CT
As expected, Mike Napoli has been placed on the 15-day DL due to right shoulder inflammation, according to the LA Times. Ryan Budde has been recalled from Triple-A to fill his spot on the roster. The pain in Napoli's shoulder became unbearable and he said, "Something doesn't feel right in there. I've had good days and bad days. Some days, it hurts every time I throw back to the pitcher."

Our View: Jeff Mathis will now be the primary catcher until Napoli returns.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 7/6, 7:09 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Angels expect to place Mike Napoli on the 15-day disabled list after an MRI on Monday.

Our View: Napoli reports that "something doesn't feel right". Catcher Ryan Bubddle will be called up Triple-A but Jeff Mathis figures to pick up the bulk of the available starts.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 6/24, 9:26 PM CT
Mike Napoli hit his first home run of the month Tuesday night against the Nationals. He also addedd three RBI.

Our View: He now has hit 11 home runs in 134 at-bats.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 6/22, 1:24 PM CT
The Angels welcome catcher Mike Napoli back to the starting lineup today as they face Philadelphia, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Mired in a 2-for-36 slump after a tremendous, power-driven start, Napoli has missed six straight games as he works to get back on track. Napoli was on a home run tear early in the season, culminating with two bombs and five RBIs in an Interleague game at home against the Dodgers on May 18. His 10 homers have come in 124 at-bats, but his average has plunged to .202. Today, the Angels will give him a shot to get his swing back on the right path to success.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 5/19, 3:58 PM CT
Mike Napoli's power has never been questioned, but his production in April and May far exceed his career peripherals. With two more long bombs on Sunday, Napoli now has 10 on the season. More amazing is his HR Rate of 8.3.

Our View: On the season the Angels catcher has 23 hits, almost half of those are home runs. This of course explains his .258 average, which in the big picture, isn't horrible. I In 2005, Napoli hit 16 home runs in limited playing time, 268 AB (16.8) and last year he hit 10 in 219 at-bats (21.9) Owners who can put up with his .250 average should keep him around for the long balls, something tough to come by so far in 2008. For those who need boost in average, should consider selling high.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 5/18, 9:53 PM CT
Mike Napoli went deep twice for the Angels on Sunday as he pushed five runners across the plate for the Angels.

Our View: Who cares if Naploli is hitting .258 when the big fella has 10 bombs and 23 RBI on the season in just 89 AB. Think what kind of damage he could do with 450 AB.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/14, 12:05 AM CT
The Angels were working hard to produce and grind out runs this evening, struggling to keep up with the Chicago starter John Danks, but the stolen bases (three total) and gifts from bad relief pitching served the opportunity needed to take the 2-0 win. The primary source of offense came from one of three players. Catcher Mike Napoli went 1-for-3 with one RBI, one stolen base, and one runner left onboard.

Our View: 3B Robb Quinlan went 2-for-4, joining Garrett Anderson as the only other multi-hit batter of the night (also 2-for-4), with one RBI on the night. Anderson also added a stolen base and a run scored, but failed to post the RBI.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 5/7, 10:47 PM CT
Mike Napoli connected for his eighth home run of the season on Wednesday night for the Angels. The three hits he had on the might pushed his average to .273.

Our View: With Jeff Mathis in a slump, perhaps the Angels will lean on Napoli more often as he has now knocked eight taters in just 65 AB on the year.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 5/6, 3:22 PM CT
Mike Napoli holds the highest home run ratio in the league right now with seven homers over 62 at-bats, according to MLB.com.

Our View: That is a great stat for a catcher, but unfortunately Manager Mike Scioscia has no plans of using the DH option to find more at-bats for him. Napoli and Jeff Mathis have shared the catching duties, each playing 17 games so far.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsFriday 5/2, 12:26 AM CT
Mike Napoli had two hits, two runs and two RBI on Thursday night for the Angels. One of the two hits was his seventh home run of the season.

Our View: Napoli continues to pound the long ball as he has a whopping 33 HR in 546 career AB, but with a sub. 240 batting average in his career he will still continue to lose AB from time to time. Plus Jeff Mathis is hitting .298 this year, so even when the Angels look his way they still have a productive bat to turn to.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 4/14, 10:34 PM CT
Mike Napoli socked his fourth homer of the young season on Monday. The backstop was appearing in only his ninth game, and he is also up to 10 RBI.

Our View: Napoli swatted 29 and 31 homers back in 2004 and 2005 (in the minors), and we came into this season knowing he had good power potential. Let's not get carried away, though. He didn't turn into a young Mike Piazza over the winter.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 4/9, 5:38 PM CT
Mike Napoli hit his first career grand slam leading a parade of long balls by LA as the Angels defeated the Cleveland Indians 9-5 on Wednesday. It might have been Napoli's first career granny, but it was his third bomb of the season.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 9/11, 11:31 AM CT
Mike Napoli was back in the starting lineup Monday for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in July, according to the LA Times. Manager Mike Scioscia plans to ease Napoli back into the lineup slowly, while continuing to give Jeff Mathis playing time.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 9/2, 6:22 AM CT
Mike Napoli came off the disabled list Saturday, though he did not play, the AP reports. He's coming back from a hamstring injury. Jeff Mathis hasn't hit much in Napoli's absence (.216), though his defense has been solid. It will be interesting to see how Mike Scioscia juggles his catchers for the final month, especially if the Angels clinch the division early.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 9/1, 7:17 AM CT
Mike Napoli attempted to run from first to third before Friday's game. However, his troublesome hamstring tightened up on him, according to the LA Times. "I'm real frustrated because I want to be a part of this," Napoli said. "I thought I would be playing by now." It's not clear when he will be able to come off the disabled list.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsTuesday 8/28, 10:32 AM CT
Mike Napoli, recovering from a strained right hamstring, ran at about 60-65% Monday and continues to make progress, according to the LA Times. Barring any setbacks, he could begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSaturday 8/25, 7:16 AM CT
Mike Napoli has had a setback in his return from a strained right hamstring. A sore back has sidelined him for the past two days, according to the LA Times. "The middle of my back locked up Thursday; I think I slept on it wrong," Napoli said. "I tried to hit early, and it was bothering me, so I shut it down." Even if he can shake off the tight back, he probably won't come off the DL for another week or so.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/16, 10:39 PM CT
Mike Napoli, who is out with a strained right hamstring, ran Thursday but is still sore and will not be activated this weekend, according to the AP. Napoli, who went on the disabled list July 28, will likely need a rehab assignment before returning.

Our View: He's still a couple of weeks away at best.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 8/15, 12:12 PM CT
Mike Napoli said his strained hamstring tightened when he tried to run at full speed Saturday, according to the LA Times. If he can run full speed Thursday and Friday, the Angels could activate him from the DL this weekend. If not, Napoli might need a minor league rehabilitation assignment before his activation.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 8/15, 5:52 AM CT
Mike Napoli (hamstring) took part in agility drills before Tuesday's game and will take part in running drills for the second time within the next couple of days, the AP reports. Mike Scioscia said no decision has been made on whether Napoli will require a minor league rehab assignment.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsMonday 8/13, 7:14 AM CT
Mike Napoli said his strained right hamstring was "a little sore" Sunday after testing the muscle by running at full speed the previous two days, according to the LA Times. Napoli probably won't come off the disabled list until this weekend.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsSunday 8/12, 7:05 AM CT
As expected, Mike Napoli tested his strained right hamstring by running at full speed Friday and Saturday. However, things didn't go well enough for the Angels to activate him from the disabled list on Sunday, according to the LA Times. He's getting closer to returning to action, but it looks like that won't happen until the middle of next week.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsThursday 8/9, 10:23 AM CT

Mike Napoli said his sprained left ankle "kind of rubs on" a bone spur in the joint that was revealed by recent X-rays. He's not sure if the ankle injury he suffered on July 1 also produced the spur or merely aggravated it, according to the LA Times. "It pinches on me a little bit, but it's something that's going to happen and I'm going to have to deal with it," said Napoli. "It's something to where it's not going to get any worse." Napoli ran the bases aggressively Tuesday but acknowledged being a little hesitant when he changed directions for fear of hurting the ankle. "I've just got to let it go," said Napoli, who could be activated from the DL as early as Thursday. "I've just got to get it out of my head that it's not going to hurt."
