Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 8/21, 9:11 PM CT
Micah Owings struggled in his first start since coming off the DL on Friday. He allowed five runs on five hits and a walk in five innings and took the loss as the Reds fell 5-2 to the Pirates.

Our View: Owings, known more for his live bat than his limp arm, was 1-for-2 at the plate Friday. He has an ERA near 9.00 in his last five starts.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 8/20, 9:34 AM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds have activated Micah Owings from the disabled list.

Our View: Owings will start for (and swap roster spots with) the injured Johnny Cueto. He will take the hill Friday against the Pirates, but his 5.35 ERA should tell you to leave him off your fantasy roster.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 7/27, 3:15 PM CT
A day after leaving his most recent start after just two innings with shoulder tightness, Micah Owings has been placed on the disabled list, according to the team.

Our View: The Reds might miss him more for his slugging ability, however, than his pitching. In 18 starts this season, he has gone 6-11 with a 5.35 ERA and ugly 1.64 WHIP. Reliever Robert Manuel has been recalled to take his roster spot.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 7/26, 5:38 PM CT
Micah Owings lost for the 11th time this season on Sunday, pitching just two innings of a 5-2 Reds loss in Chicago.

Our View: He actually left because of shoulder tightness, however, and not his general ineffectiveness. Owings now has a downright ugly 1.64 WHIP, and is miles away from being able to help your fantasy team. Owings is due to have the shoulder examined on Monday.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/9, 9:39 PM CT
Micah Owings was lit up for seven earned runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings in Thursday's 9-6 loss at Philadelphia. He issued four walks with one strikeout.

Our View: Owings was a disappointment tonight after allowing three total earned runs over his last two starts. He should remain erratic as a fantasy hurler.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 7/4, 3:59 PM CT
Micah Owings notched his sixth win of the season on Saturday as the Reds beat the Cardinals 5-2. Owings went 6.2 innings and allowed two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out six. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run.

Our View: Owings has been good over his last two starts, and he is starting to pick up some steam when it comes to fantasy value. NL-only leaguers might want to give him a look if you are in need of some pitching.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 6/28, 3:24 PM CT
Micah Owings allowed four walks and five hits over six innings on Sunday, but found a way to work out of jams. He only allowed one run and struck out four in the Reds' 8-1 win over the Indians.

Our View: Owings improved to 5-8 on the season and lowered his ERA to 4.63. Not the best fantasy starter, but he has allowed two runs or less in four of his last five starts.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/23, 9:58 PM CT
Micah Owings got hit hard on Tuesday, allowing six earned runs in 5.2 innings of work as the Reds fell to the Blue Jays 7-5.

Our View: Owings has been in danger of losing his rotation spot, and Tuesday night certainly did not help his case. But after three straight solid starts, he may be given one more reprieve before being yanked.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/17, 9:34 PM CT
Micah Owings picked up his fourth win of the season in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Braves. He was 1-for-1 with a home run, three RBI, and a sacrifice at the dish. On the mound, he allowed six hits, two walks, and two runs scored. He did not strike out anyone.

Our View: Owings continues to impress at the plate just as much as he does on the mound. In three June starts, he has allowed only five runs in 15.1 innings. He also has seven RBI in 22 at bats.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 6/11, 7:32 PM CT
Micah Owings enjoyed a solid outing from the hill in Thursday's 3-2 loss at Washington, as he only allowed one earned run on four hits over 5.1 innings. He had four walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Owings pitched very well tonight, despite the four free passes. Washington scored two runs in the eighth inning, leaving Owings with a no-decision. Owings has now gone six straight starts without a win, but allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last two outings.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 6/5, 9:29 PM CT
Micah Owings allowed two earned runs on five hits over six innings in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Cubs at the Great American Ballpark. He had three walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: Owings has taken a loss in four of his last five starts, and has seven losses for the season. He is not fit for fantasy duty right now.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 5/31, 6:30 PM CT
Micah Owings was not sharp against Milwaukee on Sunday, falling to 3-6 after giving up five runs off eight hits and and three runs while striking out five in 5.2 innings.

Our View: There's no denying Owings' fine athleticism or skills as a hitter, but he's simply been too unreliable thus far to merit any consideration as a fantasy starter.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 5/21, 3:43 PM CT
Micah Owings was rocked for five earned runs on six hits over a mere three innings in Thursday's 12-5 loss to the Phillies at the Great American Ballpark. He issued three walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: He falls to 3-5, but suffered his first loss at home over three starts.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 5/16, 10:17 AM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds have moved starter Micah Owings' turn in the rotation back a day to keep Johnny Cueto on pace for his regular start.

Our View: Owings will be available out of the bullpen this weekend and may get some work there with reliever Nick Masset dealing with a strained side.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 5/12, 11:48 PM CT
Micah Owings had a strong outing against his former team on Tuesday with seven innings of one-run ball where he allowed just four hits and two walks. He collected his third win in the Reds' 3-1 victory over Arizona.

Our View: Owings is now 3-3 on the season and has a 4.33 ERA. He's not the best fantasy starter as he doesn't strike many hitters out and has a tendency to get rocked but he's serviceable.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 5/7, 9:33 PM CT
Micah Owings helped out his own cause on Thursday, as he knocked an RBI triple and then scored on a passed ball in the fourth inning of the Reds' 6-5 victory over the Brewers. On the mound, Owings went six innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out four.

Our View: Owings was average on the mound, but once again he proved why he is one of the best hitting pitchers in baseball history. His pitching stats leave something to be desired for fantasy owners, however. Too bad you can't play him in your lineup when he pitches.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 5/2, 9:26 PM CT
Micah Owings was rocked for five earned runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings in Saturday's 8-6 loss at the Pirates. He issued two walks with no strikeouts.

Our View: This was Owings' worst outing of the season, and marks the first time he did not fire any strikeouts. He falls to 1-3 over four starts.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 4/26, 2:59 PM CT
Pitcher Micah Owings worked seven strong innings against the Braves on Sunday and improved to 1-2. He allowed six hits and one run, walked three, and struck out six. Owings also went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

Our View: Owings allowed his fourth homer of the season, but it's nice to see him finally pitch like he did this spring. He remains an enigmatic, unreliable fantasy option.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 3/31, 4:27 PM CT
Micah Owings allowed four runs in his five innings of work Tuesday, but only one was earned. He allowed six hit and three walks and was tagged with the loss.

Our View: Owings defense failed him, but he didn't help much allowing nine runners to reach base. He still has a great ERA this spring at 1.52, but expect that to climb drastically this season as the Reds fifth starter.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 3/30, 10:42 AM CT
Micah Owings has been named the fifth starter in the Reds' rotation, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He beat out Homer Bailey for the spot.

Our View: Owings held a passable 1.39 WHIP with 87 strikeouts over 104.2 innings in 2008, and is worth consideration as a sleeper for NL-only leagues. He is also a solid hitter, and will provide a bonus with his bat.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/26, 11:12 PM CT
Micah Owings earned his third win of the season Thursday as he beat the Twins 6-4. He threw four innings of one run ball, but gave up six hits and five walks.

Our View: It's hard to believe Owings only allowed one run while allowing 11 base runners, but he did. He's been sharp this spring with a minuscule 1.45 ERA and should be a factor in the Reds' rotation.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 3/23, 1:48 PM CT
Micah Owings is battling Homer Bailey for the fifth spot in the Reds' rotation, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Nick Masset is out of the race.

Our View: Owings looks to be the favorite for the job, and the club has suggested that they may use Bailey out of the bullpen as a reliever. Owings would be worth targeting as a sleeper for NL-only leagues, and would provide a bonus as a solid hitter.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 3/8, 10:17 PM CT
Micah Owings threw four innings of scoreless ball Sunday against the Blue Jays. He allowed just one hit, walked one batter, and struck out six.

Our View: If he's right, Owings has an excellent chance of surpassing his career-high of eight wins in the back end of the Cincinnati rotation. He struggled most of last year with Arizona, amassing only 104 innings in 2008, a season in which he started 18 games.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 2/26, 5:43 PM CT
Micah Owings threw three scoreless innings of two-hit ball Thursday as the Reds fell 10-4 to the Twins.

Our View: If Owings can shave a run to a run and a half off of his 2008 ERA of 5.93, he will be an impact arm at the back end of that Cincinnati rotation. Plus, we all know he can hit.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 2/21, 4:59 PM CT
Reds manager Dusty Baker will use Micah Owings as a pinch-hitter and a reliever if he is unable to lock down the fifth spot in the team's rotation, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: Owings was lauded as the best hitter on the team by some of his Diamondback teammates last season. Unfortunately, most fantasy leagues will not count the offense that pitchers are able to produce.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 2/16, 1:51 PM CT
Micah Owings is gearing up to push for the fifth spot in the Reds' rotation, according to the Associated Press. Owings is now pain-free after suffering through a shoulder strain last season, and manager Dusty Baker noted that he has looked sharp in his recent throwing sessions.

Our View: The 26-year-old has upside as a starting pitcher, and his solid hitting skills would provide a bonus to fantasy owners. He is worth targeting as a late-round flier.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 12/10, 12:17 PM CT
Micah Owings could be available in a trade, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Our View: He could be made available to the Marlins if the Reds become serious after dealing for outfielder Jeremy Hermida. Homer Bailey could also be a trade chip, but Johnny Cueto is deemed to be untouchable.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 9/29, 12:13 PM CT
The Reds top priority for the off-season is to acquire a productive right-handed hitter, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. They already do have one on their roster with Micah Owings, who is a career .319 hitter and registers an RBI in every 5.5 at-bats.

Our View: He is such a good hitter that the team has discussed using him in the outfield on days he is not pitching. He could hold strong fantasy value as a two-way player next season, but is most likely just going to stick with pitching.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 9/12, 3:48 PM CT
Micah Owings is officially a member of the Cincinnati Reds, according to the AP. The move completes the deal that shipped Adam Dunn to Arizona.

Our View: He was previously on the DL, which prevented him from being traded. Owings will be available for the Reds in Friday night’s game against Arizona. He will continue to hold minimal fantasy value with his new club.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/12, 7:33 PM CT
Pitcher Micah Owings is one of the players that was shipped to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Adam Dunn, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Owings was recently sent to Triple-A by Arizona, and at this point seems to be better at the plate than on the mound. His move to Cincinnati does not change his minimal fantasy value.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 7/29, 6:25 PM CT
Diamondbacks hurler Micah Owings was sent to Triple-A Tuscon after allowing eight earned runs to the offensively-challenged San Diego Padres on Monday, according to Dbacks.com.

Our View: Owings was known more for his bat than his arm, as he was hitting .288 with a home run on the year. Unfortunately, those numbers don't count in fantasy leagues, but his 5.93 ERA does.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 7/29, 12:15 AM CT
Micah Owings, who has been absolutely terrible since late May, returned to the starting rotation on Monday. He was at it again as he surrendered eight earned runs to the Padres in three innings.

Our View: Sooner or later, Owings will be sent to the minors or the bullpen. His previous three appearances before Monday's start came out of the pen. Yusmeiro Petit will likely replace him in the rotation.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 7/27, 11:39 AM CT
Following a short stint in the bullpen, Micah Owings is slated to return to the starting rotation on Monday against the Padres, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Reliever Juan Cruz is expected to return from the DL next week, so Owings wouldn't be guaranteed regular work if kept in the bullpen. Manager Bob Melvin wants him to start Monday to keep him sharp and effective.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 7/22, 7:26 PM CT
Micah Owings' last two appearances have come out of the bullpen. He has thrown three innings, allowed no hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: No word yet if this will become a permanent role for Owings. He struggled greatly in his last eight starts.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/9, 8:54 PM CT
Arizona RHP Micah Owings did what he could to get his team on track for a better night at the park, but the Diamondbacks failed to produce any semblence of offensive support, falling 5-0 to the Washington Nationals. Owings pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on just one hit with five walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: The runs came of a homer in the 5th by pinch hitter Jesus Flores, his fifth homer of the season and the 12th homer allowed this season by Owings. He had struggled with surrendering the long ball over the first two months of the season but had allowed just three homers through five starts in June. Owings hasn't recorded a win since May 25th, going 0-6 over eight starts since.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 7/5, 8:27 AM CT
Micah Owings worked 0.2 innings of hitless relief on Friday night. He will get back into the rotation next Tuesday or Wednesday, the Arizona Republic notes. Owings' last start was skipped due to glute tightness.

Our View: Fantasy owners can plan on using Micah next week. Given that Brandon Webb's usual rest lines him up for Tuesday, we'd bet on Owings working on Wednesday.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/2, 10:59 AM CT
The East Valley Tribune reports that Yusmeiro Petit will start today in place of Micah Owings on Wednesday night against the Brewers.

Our View: The East Valley Tribune notes that Owings is suffering from a groin injury, while all other reports mentioned the starter nursing a back injury.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/2, 7:40 AM CT
The Arizona Republic reports that starting pitcher Micah Owings' Wednesday start could be in jeopardy due to a pulled muscle in his back. The big right-hander suffered the injury in Friday's loss to the Marlins.

Our View: Owings is 0-5 with an 8.28 ERA in six starts since his last win on May 25. If Owings can't go then right-hander Yusmeiro Petit will take the ball.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 6/28, 11:23 PM CT
Micah Owings said Saturday he expects to make his next scheduled start Wednesday at Milwaukee. Owings left Friday night's 3-1 loss against the Marlins with tightness in his lower back.

Our View: The big right-hander reportedly was favoring the injury after stretching for a catch covering first base an inning earlier.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 6/27, 8:15 PM CT
Micah Owings left Friday night's game in the fifth inning with an undisclosed injury, according to the AP.

Our View: He has lost his previous two starts, and surrendered three runs prior to leaving tonight's outing. We will keep you posted when his injury status is revealed.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 6/20, 1:17 PM CT
Pitcher Micah Owings is being considered as a possible candidate to serve as DH during the D-Backs' trip to Minnesota and Boston, according to the East Valley Tribune. Manager Bob Melvin said, "It depends on how he’s swinging." Owings added, "It’d be a great opportunity to get in there. But as far as the other guys we’ve got here, we’ve got a lot of good guys that can swing it. If I get the opportunity, great, and I’ll do the best that I can."

Our View: Owings holds a .299 average with five homers over 107 career at-bats.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 6/15, 8:48 PM CT
Micah Owings was rocked for seven runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings in Sunday's 8-3 loss to Kansas City, with two walks and four strikeouts. Most of the damage came on a three-run homer by David DeJesus.

Our View: Owings drops to 6-5 for the season, with a 5.18 ERA. He has now allowed at least four earned runs in four straight starts.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/10, 10:45 PM CT
Arizona RHP Micah Owings struggled through a rough outing this evening but his Diamondbacks emerged victorious over the Mets, 9-5. Owings lasted just 4 1/3 innings to allow five runs (four earned) on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: Owings may have walked away with no decision, but this is his third troublesome outing in a row, allowing 14 earned runs over the span.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 6/10, 5:14 PM CT
Micah Owings has struggled mightily in his last two starts and hopes to rebound in New York tonight. He has given up 10 earned runs over his last nine and a third innings. Tonight he'll take on John Maine and the Mets.

Our View: Look for more of the same from baseball's best hitting pitcher. In his last start against the Mets, May 2nd, he gave up seven runs in five and two-thirds innings in Arizona.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/4, 4:39 PM CT
Micah Owings allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits, walked one and struck out three in only three innings of work. Owings got a quick hook in the loss, but all in all, most of the hits he surrendered were singles. He wasn't sharp and his fastball and slider were flat, but his removal after only 67 pitches was somewhat of a surprise.

Our View: Owings was also a victim of poor defensive support. For now, the right-hander is not in jeopardy of losing his starting slot, but Max Scherzer is waiting for a chance to pounce.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 5/30, 11:36 PM CT
Micah Owings was rocked for six runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings in Friday's 7-4 loss to Washington, with no walks and six strikeouts.

Our View: He falls to 6-3 for the season with a 4.17 ERA. This was a poor outing tonight, but he only allowed eight total earned runs over his previous four starts in May. He held a solid 1.18 WHIP prior to tonight's loss as well.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 5/26, 6:59 PM CT
Micah Owings pinch hit in the eighth inning of Monday's loss to the Braves. The starting pitcher hit into a double play. Owings is batting .286 (10-for-35) with a home run, three RBI and 12 strikeouts on the season.

Our View: Owings' hitting totals don't count in the fantasy realm, but from a reality and fantasy perspective, every time he is on the mound he represents more than an easy out -- more like an American League designated hitter. This is a huge plus for the Diamondbacks and for fantasy mangers in head-to-head formats.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 5/25, 5:10 PM CT
Arizona RHP Micah Owings got his sixth win of the season today, hurling his Diamondbacks to a 9-3 victory over Atlanta. Owings pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View: After going 4-0 for through April, Owings has since gone 2-2 through May, touting 11 walks versus 27 strikeouts on the month.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 5/20, 9:52 PM CT
Arizona RHP Micah Owings has suffered his second loss of the season as his Diamondbacks have fallen 3-2 to the Florida Marlins. Owings went seven innings to surrender three runs (all earned) on seven hits with just two walks and an impressive 10 strikeouts.

Our View: In the end, the offense failed to produce the support needed for the win. Owings is now 1-2 in four starts in the month of May, but he touts nine walks versus 24 strikeouts.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/14, 11:49 PM CT
The Arizona Diamondbacks nearly lost the effort to bad relief pitching, but RHP Micah Owings was on his mark and pitching well, earning his fifth win of the season. Owings went six innings of shutout ball, giving up just five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: By the way, Owings, known for his hitting as much as his pitching, went 0-for-3 at the dish, but his work with the arm was solid. He is now 5-1 and leading the way for the Snakes in the NL West.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/14, 7:22 AM CT
Manager Bob Melvin notes that Sunday's rainout helped all of his starting pitchers, as it allowed him to move the rotation back one day. Notably, Melvin tells the Arizona Republic that it gave Micah Owings an extra day to rest a sore right ankle. Owings will start on Wednesday.

Our View: Owings pitched well in his previous start on May 7, so we would think the ankle isn't hurting him too badly.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/7, 11:52 PM CT
Micah Owings rebounded from two poor outings to allow three runs over seven innings against the Phillies to pick up a no-decision.

Our View: Whew. After an excellent start to the year, Owings had given up 11 runs in his last 10.2 innings so this outing should assuage the feelings of doubt that Owings will continue to be a successful pitcher this season.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/30, 6:23 PM CT
Micah Owings didn't pitch on Wednesday but that didn't stop him from being involved in the action as he stroked a game-tying 2-run pinch hit home run for the D'backs.

Our View: Owings is now hitting .354 with five home runs in 79 career AB, and it's obvious why the team has toyed with the idea of giving him an odd start at first base when Conor Jackson needs a day off.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/30, 9:27 AM CT
Micah Owings' bullpen session went favorably on Tuesday and he said everything felt good and he is ready to make his scheduled start on Friday, according to the Arizona Republic. Owings sprained an ankle while running the bases Saturday in San Diego.

Our View: This is great news for fantasy owners as he he is 4-0 with a 1.00 WHIP over 31 innings, with 28 strikeouts. He ranks as one of the top fantasy steals for the season in the early going.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/29, 8:34 AM CT
Micah Owings could make his scheduled start on Friday, according to the Arizona Republic. Owings, who is nursing an ankle injury, is scheduled to throw in the bullpen on Tuesday, and Manager Bob Melvin stated, "If all goes well, he should be able to make his next scheduled start against the Mets on Friday. It has a lot to do with how he's doing today but he's a lot further along than I thought he would be."

Our View: It appears that Owings will be fine, which is great for fantasy owners as he he is 4-0 with a 1.00 WHIP over 31 innings, with 28 strikeouts. He ranks as one of the top fantasy steals for the season in the early going.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 4/28, 9:16 AM CT
The team is yet to rule out Micah Owings' next start for Friday, according to The Arizona Republic. He suffered a mild sprained ankle on Saturday, but was walking without much discomfort on Sunday. Manager Bob Melvin didn't officially rule out Owings being able to make his next start Friday, but with Thursday's off day, he mentioned that Owings can be skipped in the rotation.

Our View: While he may be skipped in the rotation, it sounds like Owings will be fine, which is great for fantasy owners as he is 4-0 with a 1.00 WHIP over 31 innings, with 28 strikeouts.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 4/21, 11:27 PM CT
Micah Owings continued his dominating start to the regular season but holding the Giants to two runs on Monday night to continue his perfect run (4-0). Owings allowed five hits and a walk on the night.

Our View: Dating back to the all-star game last season Owings now owns a 1.02 WHIP over his last 98 IP.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/15, 7:26 PM CT
Young hurler Micah Owings picked up his third win of the season today, throwing a gem of a game to lead his Arizona Diamondbacks to an 8-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants. Owings completed six full innings of work, throwing 96 pitches with 63 counting for strikes, allowing just one run on three hits with two walks surrendered and six strikeouts gathered.

Our View: Through three starts, Owings has picked up 19 total strike outs with just five walks allowed. He's gone at least six innings in each outing, he's allowed just five runs on 12 hits, and seems to be in a groove any fantasy owner would be gifted to own.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/9, 6:22 PM CT
Micah Owings improved to 2-0 on Wednesday in a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Owings allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings as the Diamondbacks finished a three-game sweep of their NL West rival.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/9, 12:36 PM CT
Micah Owings is 1-0 with a solid 1.35 ERA this season, and looks to remain unbeaten as he starts against the Dodgers today, according to MLB.com. Owings is 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA in three career games (two starts) against the Dodgers, and will square off against Hiroki Kuroda, who is also 1-0 with an even lower 1.29 ERA this season.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 4/4, 6:42 PM CT
Micah Owings got his 2008 season off on the right foot Friday, allowing just one run on two hits and two walks while striking out nine over 6 2/3 innings. Making the outing more impressive is the fact that it was at Coors Field. Owings had an impressive rookie campaign last year and could really break out this season.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 3/30, 9:50 AM CT
Micah Owings continues to show modest signs of life for the D'Backs this spring. The right-hander allowed three runs in five innings of work on Saturday. The hard-hitting pitcher allowed nine hits, and struck out but two, and he's expected to begin the season on the farm so he can get the ball every fifth day.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 3/24, 9:00 PM CT
Micah Owings allowed four runs in 5.1 innings to lower his spring ERA to 9.77, this according to the AP. “No, I’m not concerned, and I don’t think anybody should be concerned,” Owings said. “The minute you start to get concerned, you start to press. I’m just going to take it each outing, each game, each pitch, and focus on that. I’m not going to start thinking too much.” Count us as being in the concerned camp. If Owings can put it back together he figures to be about as good a fifth starter as there is in the National League but after a solid rookie season his work thus far has been far from encouraging.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 3/20, 12:09 AM CT
Micah Owings allowed three runs on March 14, and had another rough outing on Wednesday against Seattle as he surrendered five runs on six hits over four innings of work, with one walk and two strikeouts. His spring ERA climbed to 11.32 and his stock continues to fall as Arizona's projected fifth starter in the rotation.
Micah Owings, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 3/14, 7:44 AM CT
Micah Owings allowed three runs (two earned), five hits and three walks over 2 2/3 innings during Thursday's Cactus League game. "You like to see results every time," manager Bob Melvin said, according to the Arizona Republic. "Some days it's just not going to happen. Right now, he's going through a little bit of a funk as far as his command." Owings has allowed 12 hits, eight walks and eight earned runs in just 6 1/3 innings this spring, so clearly the Diamondbacks need to see him step things up soon in preparation for the beginning of the regular season.

Micah Owings threw around 35 pitches in the bullpen on Wednesday and hopes to return from the soreness in his throwing shoulder on Saturday, this according to MLB.com. If healthy, Owings figures to be one of the better 4/5 starters in the NL after a solid season last year that included a 1.28 WHIP and only 2.95 BB/9.

Micah Owings will not make his scheduled start on Monday due to soreness behind his right shoulder. He has had such an issue in the past. “Yeah, that’s why I’m not too concerned about it,” Owings tells the Arizona Republic. “(I’ve felt it) from time to time. I think pitchers go through it from time to time, whether it’s early, middle or late in the season.” He is day-to-day.

Micah Owings is working on a new pitch this spring, a changeup, and so he isn't overly concerned with the results at this point. “He’s always tinkering, trying to get a little bit better,” manager Bob Melvin said in a report on the AP. “Today he was focusing on his changeup. He probably threw several more, especially in different counts, than you normally see him.” Owings figures to be a solid gamble in the late rounds if he can continue to keep his walks down (2.95 BB/9) and up his K/9 up a bit (6.25).

Brandon Webb will pitch Game 1 of the NLCS, but manager Bob Melvin wouldn't reveal Monday how the rest of his rotation would shape up. He could possibly pitch Game 4 of the NLCS.

Micah Owings will have his next turn in the rotation skipped, the AP reports. He's winless in his last four starts and has dropped two straight decisions, and Arizona wants to keep its other starters on normal rest after Thursday's off day. "We'll give Micah a little distance," manager Bob Melvin said. Owings could come out of the bullpen in the meantime. "He handles it fine but he doesn't like it," Melvin said.

Micah Owings had the night of his professional life Saturday at Atlanta, carrying the Diamondbacks with both his pitching and hitting. Owings worked seven strong innings for his sixth win (three hits, three runs, seven strikeouts), but the real story is what he did at the plate: two mammoth homers, four hits, six RBI. As snappy as this performance was, let's not get carried away with what it may mean. The victory was Owings's first since June 20, and his ERA is still a pedestrian 4.70.

Micah Owings will get at least one more start before a decision is made on pulling him from the rotation. "So we'll see what happens this time around, and going into that next off day we'll see who did what, and if we need to make some changes, maybe we'll do it then," manager Bob Melvin told the Arizona Republic. "But right now we still feel like he can work it out." Owings has a 9.55 ERA during his past five starts, so he shouldn't be in anyone's lineup until he figures things out.

There has been some speculation that Micah Owings, who sports a 4.92 ERA this year, will be moved to the bullpen, but pitching coach Bryan Price still views the youngster as a starter, according to the Arizona Republic. "It's too easy to make starters into relievers," Price said. "I think this kid can start. There's no other way to get him to learn how to get through that maybe fourth at-bat against a hitter without letting him do it. I believe a lot in this kid, I think we all do." Owings has been hit hard his last few times out, holding a 10.43 ERA over his last three starts.

Micah Owings will have his next start skipped, meaning his next start will come on Saturday against the Red Sox. He threw a simulated game on Tuesday to keep him fresh, according to the Arizona Republic. "It was just to get his pitches to the point where the next time he goes out there, there aren't any cobwebs he has to shake out," manager Bob Melvin said.

"We feel like we have six good, big-league starters for five spots," manager Bob Melvin said. "We had to make a very difficult decision, and this is just what we settled on." Owings held a 2.93 ERA in three starts before going on the DL with a hamstring injury. Melvin said the club could skip Owings in the near future with a couple off days coming up.
