Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesThursday 1/14, 10:35 AM CT
The Braves and Melky Cabrera have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.1 million contract, according to ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas.

Our View: Cabrera will serve as Atlanta's starting left fielder heading into 2010, though his numbers could dip compared to last season's without the support of the Yankees' lineup around him.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesMonday 12/28, 2:05 PM CT
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated reports that if the Braves decide to trade recently acquired outfielder Melky Cabrera, the Cubs would "love" to have him as their center fielder.

Our View: Rumors have arisen in the past few days that Atlanta is looking to flip their newest addition. Stay tuned.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesTuesday 12/22, 8:59 AM CT
Melky Cabrera, along with Mike Dunn and a minor leaguer to be named later, has reportedly been dealt to Atlanta in exchange for Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: This one comes as a bit of a shocker. Nothing is official yet, but it looks like Cabrera will be a Brave after all the details are worked out. Much of his fantasy value last season derived from the fact that he was starting in such a loaded lineup, and thus his value will certainly take a hit leaving New York for Atlanta.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesMonday 11/2, 3:58 PM CT
The Yankees are trying to get a roster exemption to replace the injured Melky Cabrera (hamstring) on their roster for the final (potential) three games of the World Series, according to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse.

Our View: Manager Joe Girardi said he would be "extremely" limited if forced into action. If Major League Baseball allows them to add someone else, he will by rule be out for the rest of the series.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesMonday 11/2, 7:56 AM CT
Melky Cabrera isn't likely to play in game five of the World Series on Monday night after straining his left hamstring in game four on Sunday, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: It's likely that either Brett Gardner or Jerry Hairston Jr. will replace him in the lineup as the Yankees attempt to beat Cliff Lee and clinch the World Series on Monday.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSunday 11/1, 10:17 PM CT
Melky Cabrera left Sunday's Game 4 with a left hamstring injury. He came up limping after trying to beat out a groundball.

Our View: Brett Gardner replaced him in centerfield, and it's uncertain if Cabrera will be able to return to play in the World Series.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesTuesday 10/20, 10:48 PM CT
Melky Cabrera helped lead the Yankees in tonight's 10-1 win at the Angels in Game 4 of the ALCS, as he went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. He hit a double and a pair of singles.

Our View: Cabrera was only batting 3-for-13 in the series heading into tonight's game. The Yankees now hold a 3-1 lead, and could advance to the World Series with a victory on Thursday at Angel Stadium.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 10/9, 10:23 AM CT
Melky Cabrera will be in the Yankees' lineup for Game 2 against the Twins on Friday, according to the New York Post. Manager Joe Girardi said he would stick with Cabrera for Friday's game, but that Brett Gardner could start in Game 3.

Our View: Gardner gives the Yanks more flexibility coming off the bench because of his speed, so he will remain in the role for tonight's game. Melky will be in center again tonight, but expect to see Gardner as some point before the game is over.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSunday 8/2, 6:28 PM CT
Melky Cabrera hit for the cycle against the White Sox on Sunday in the Yankees' 8-5 win.

Our View: Cabrera homered in the second, doubled in the fourth, singled in the fifth and then tripled in his final at-bat in the ninth inning. He finished the day 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI. He is the fourth player to hit for the cycle this season.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/12, 7:24 PM CT
Melky Cabrera was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI in the Yankees 5-4 loss on Sunday.

Our View: After hitting over .320 in April and May, Cabrera had a miserable June (.225) and hasn't been much better in July (.273). Depending on how deep your league is, there are likely better fantasy options available.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/26, 4:36 PM CT
Melky Cabrera sat out the last two games while dealing with flu-like symptoms, according to the Journal News.

Our View: He would like to return to the diamond tonight for the subway series against the Mets at Citi Field, but his status is uncertain. We will keep you posted on his status.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesMonday 6/1, 3:42 PM CT
As expected, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Melky Cabrera will be back in the Yankees starting lineup tonight after sitting out since May 26 with a bruised left shoulder.

Our View: It should be all systems go for Melky in the Yankees outfield tonight. Do not hesitate to play him.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSunday 5/31, 12:16 PM CT
The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Melky Cabrera will return to the starting lineup on Monday. Cabrera will be available to pinch hit on Sunday, but he will not start.

Our View: Fantasy owners can feel free to put Melky back in the lineup starting tomorrow, but he is still out today. He is expected to be at full strength starting tomorrow, so no worries on that front.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 5/29, 9:28 AM CT
Melky Cabrera is expected to be available to come off the bench for the Yankees this weekend, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Cabrera injured his shoulder in Texas earlier this week.

Our View: Cabrera is not expected to start this weekend, but he is available to the Yankees for pinch-hitting duties and defensive substitutions. He should be left out on fantasy rosters, but the injury appears to be minor so he should be back next week.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 5/27, 6:12 PM CT
Updating a previous report, an MRI exam has revealed that Melky Cabrera has no structural damage in his shoulder, according to the New York Post. Cabrera left Tuesday's game after crashing into the wall on a slippery field in Texas.

Our View: The injury is minor as expected, and he is listed as day-to-day. He will probably not play Friday, but he could be available for the weekend. We will keep you updated on his status going forward.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesTuesday 5/26, 10:40 PM CT
Melky Cabrera left Tuesday's game against the Rangers in the first inning with what appears to be a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Brett Gardner in center field.

Our View: Cabrera should be considered day-to-day for now, as it doesn't look like this injury isn't serious. We will keep you updated on his condition.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/29, 6:14 PM CT
Melky Cabrera will continue to start in center field for the Yankees, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Cabrera is off to a pretty hot start as he is hitting .325/.413/.625 through his first 40 at bats. He holds some fantasy value now that it appears that he has replaced Brett Gardner as the starter in New York.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/22, 5:37 PM CT
Melky Cabrera hit two home runs, including a two-run walk-off homer in the 14th inning, in the Yankees' 9-7 win against the A's on Wednesday. Cabrera is hitting .304 with limited at-bats this season.

Our View: Huge day for Cabrera, especially since he won the game for the Yanks in the 14th. He doubled his home run total today, but he is still only an option in AL-only leagues. If he can get more playing time he could be an option in mixed leagues as well.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/22, 9:20 AM CT
Melky Cabrera will start in center field for today's game against Oakland at Yankee Stadium, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Brett Gardner will be riding the pine today. Cabrera has five hits (two homers) and four RBI over 17 at-bats this season, and is worth consideration for AL-only leagues.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/28, 4:16 PM CT
Yankees outfielder Melky Cabrera went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the team's 6-4 win over the Braves.

Our View: With the Yankees apparently interested in trading Cabrera, his .346 spring can only help the team's chances of finding a suitor. As it stands, he and Brett Gardner are the team's center fielders.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 3/25, 4:35 PM CT
With the development of Brett Gardner, the Yankees are interested in trading Melky Cabrera, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Cabrera has been on the outside looking in for a while in New York with their depth and production in the outfield. The club would be interested in dealing Nick Swisher or Xavier Nady but feel Cabrera might bring more value.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 2/18, 6:46 PM CT
Melky Cabrera will not take part in the World Baseball Classic, according to the Yankees' official site. Cabrera would prefer to try and win the Yankees' starting job in center field.

Our View: Cabrera certainly has his work cut out for him as Johnny Damon and Nick Swisher are much better offensive players than Cabrera. Xavier Nady and Hideki Matsui will be competing for corner outfield jobs, so Cabrera could be the fourth outfield while the other four fill out the outfield and the DH spot.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 1/21, 8:23 AM CT
Yankees outfielder Melky Cabrera agreed to a one-year contract with the team for $1.4 million, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Cabrera will battle for playing time in the team's outfield, but don't expect a lot of fantasy production, as his OBP was barely over .300 last season and he has little power.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSaturday 12/20, 1:36 PM CT
Melky Cabrera is faring well in the Dominican Winter League as he went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI for Aguilas, according to SlidingIntoHome.com. He raised his overall batting average to .325.

Our View: The Yankees were recently offering Cabrera to Milwaukee as part of a deal to acquire Mike Cameron. His solid trek with Aguilas looks to improve his trade value.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 12/17, 2:12 PM CT
Despite rumors about his future being elsewhere, Yankees outfielder Melky Cabrera has played well for his Winter League team in the Dominican, according to Yankees.com.

Our View: Cabrera has played 18 games, and is hitting .304 with seven RBI. It was thought that he was going to Milwaukee in exchange for Mike Cameron, but that deal is up in the air at this point. If he stays in New York, he's not likely to be a full-time starter, hindering his fantasy value.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesThursday 12/11, 8:02 AM CT
Melky Cabrera is expected to be traded to the Brewers in exchange for Mike Cameron, according to ESPN.

Our View: Cabrera failed to make an impact over 129 games with the Yankees in 2008, and could benefit from a fresh start with the lower-profile Brewers. His power numbers could also improve while playing his home games at launching pad Miller Park.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesMonday 12/8, 3:10 PM CT
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicates that the Dodgers are interested in Yankees' outfielder Melky Cabrera.

Our View: The Dodgers and Yankees have resumed trade talks regarding second baseman Robinson Cano, and perhaps Cabrera could be part of a package. Cabrera could be viewed as insurance in case Andruw Jones doesn't make a strong comeback in 2009.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesThursday 11/20, 7:47 AM CT
Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner would be the Yankees' center fielders if the new season started right now, but manager Joe Girardi commented that the team has been discussing bringing in outside help in meetings, according to MLB.com. Girardi said, "Some of it may depend on who we sign first, and do we decide from a financial standpoint, do we bring in an outside center fielder? But we have had internal discussions about other people."

Our View: As for options, the Yankees have previously been linked to slugger Mike Cameron in talks.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 9/5, 10:51 AM CT
Melky Cabrera has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton, according to the Sports Network.

Our View: He was recalled due to the injury concerns of outfielder Bobby Abreu (left wrist). Abreu's status for the Yankees' weekend series against Seattle remains in question. Cabrera could see some action, but does not merit fantasy consideration in anything but deeper AL-only leagues, as he struggled with New York this season.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSunday 8/31, 1:42 PM CT
Yankees outfielder Melky Cabrera, banished to Triple-A a few weeks ago with, among other things, an on-base percentage under .300, could be called up when rosters expand on Monday, according to Yankees.com.

Our View: Again, that's an OBP under .300, minimizing, if not eliminating, his fantasy prospects.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 8/15, 4:46 PM CT
As expected, the Yankees optioned Melky Cabrera to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Friday. He is batting just .242-8-36 on the year.

Our View: Melky got off to a great start this year but has been useless for the most part since. Brett Gardner replaces Cabrera on the roster.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 8/15, 2:26 PM CT
The NY Post indicates that the Yankees will demote Melky Cabrera to Triple-A Scranton. Brett Gardner will be recalled from Triple-A as the corresponding move.

Our View: Cabrera went from starting in center field to being demoted to the minors. He had potential to break out this season, but it didn't happen for him, as he only hit .242 with eight homers and 36 RBI over 117 games.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesThursday 8/7, 7:22 PM CT
Yankees outfielder Melky Cabrera was not in the starting lineup tonight, the fourth consecutive game he has been on the bench, according to Yankees.com.

Our View: Cabrera was tabbed by many as a breakout player this season, but he is hitting only .242 and his on-base percentage is an awful .298. His fantasy value is minimal.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 6/27, 11:25 AM CT
Melky Cabrera is starting in center field and hitting leadoff for the Yankees today. The first game of a day-night double-header has Johnny Damon on the bench.

Our View: Cabrera, who will be facing the red-hot Mike Pelfrey, has experienced an up and down season so far. He's hitting .254 with 32 RBI, 27 runs scored and he's stolen six bases in seven tries.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/16, 3:28 PM CT
Melky Cabrera will bat leadoff for the Yankees tonight, according to the Boston Globe. He is hitting 12-for-40 so far with two homers, five RBI, one stolen base, and four walks.

Our View: He will have a better chance to score runs now, with Derek Jeter back in the lineup. Cabrera has only scored four runs over the first 13 games of the season.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesThursday 4/10, 11:01 PM CT
Melky Cabrera and the Yankees avoided a three-game series sweep by KC with a 6-1 win on Thursday night. Cabrera tied the game after the Royals took a 1-0 lead, with a solo homer in the third. The Yankee outfielder finished the game 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 4/4, 4:10 PM CT
Melky Cabrera has had his suspension, which sprung from a bench-clearing brawl in spring training, reduced from three to two games, according to the NY Daily News. The outfielder will begin serving his suspension Friday night. Cabrera is off to a nice start this year, hitting .375 with a home run in three games.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesWednesday 4/2, 7:04 AM CT
Melky Cabrera is off to a good start as he blasted his first homer of the season against Toronto on Tuesday, while going 1-for-3 with one RBI. He should fit in well as the starting center fielder in New York.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSaturday 3/15, 3:52 PM CT
At this point, Melky Cabrera plans to appeal his three-game suspension, though he will watch video of Thursday's incident before making a final decision, according to the New York Daily News. It wouldn't be surprising to see Cabrera, Shelley Duncan and Tampa's Jonny Gomes appeal in an attempt to be available for opening day, since they would be allowed to keep playing until their cases are heard. However, the appeals would be due by Friday, which means it's possible that MLB could make a decision before opening day. Stay tuned.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 3/14, 1:37 PM CT
Melky Cabrera has received a three-game suspension for his actions during a bench-clearing incident with the Rays on Thursday, according to SportsTicker. If he doesn't appeal the suspension, it will begin on opening day.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/15, 4:36 AM CT

Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSaturday 7/14, 10:43 PM CT
Yankees outfielder Melky Cabrera was removed from the lineup Saturday because of flulike symptoms, according to the Associated Press. "He's got an intestinal thing going on," said Joe Torre. Johnny Damon moved out of the DH spot into center field. It doesn’t sound like Cabrera will be back in the lineup Sunday.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSunday 7/8, 5:52 AM CT
Melky Cabrera struck out five times in Saturday's extra-inning loss to the Angels. He entered the game as one of New York's hottest hitters, enjoying a 13-for-27 stretch.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesMonday 4/9, 11:03 PM CT
Melky Cabrera will play every day in left field while Hideki Matsui is on the disabled list, the AP reports. Cabrera will also bat ninth, understandably; he's 2-for-21 on the year after going 0-for-4 Monday.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesSaturday 12/16, 9:12 AM CT
The New York Post reports that the Yankees are discussing a deal that would send Melky Cabrera to the Pirates in exchange for closer Mike Gonzalez. Such a deal might open the door for Bernie Williams to play another season with the Yanks.
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesFriday 9/8, 7:01 AM CT
Melky Cabrera will not lose his outfield job when Hideki Matsui returns from the disabled list, according to the New York Daily News. The Yankees would prefer to have Matsui in a DH role when he comes back. "(Matsui) playing the outfield is something that may not happen, and Hideki knows it," GM Brian Cashman said. "I'm not saying it won't, but no one in the organization is counting on it."
Melky Cabrera, CF, Atlanta BravesMonday 8/28, 8:29 AM CT
Melky Cabrera was held out of yesterday's starting lineup due to a bad toothache, according to the New York Daily News. He saw a dentist after Saturday's game. "There will be some future root canal stuff in his plans," manager Joe Torre said.
