Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 9/1, 4:31 PM CT
Matt Albers has been recalled by the Orioles from Triple-A Norfolk, according to TSN.

Our View: Albers is 2-4 with a 5.85 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over 52.1 innings of relief with Baltimore this season. He is not worth a look outside of deeper fantasy leagues.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 8/18, 8:30 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that the Baltimore Orioles have optioned pitcher Matt Albers to Triple-A Norfolk. In a corresponding move, the team recalled pitcher Kam Mikolio to take his spot on the roster.

Our View: Albers was 2-4 with a 5.85 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP this season, so the O's surely won't miss him too badly. Albers just has average stuff, and should not be considered a fantasy option regardless of whether he is a starter or a reliever.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesFriday 5/22, 4:25 PM CT
The AP reports that the Orioles have recalled reliever Matt Albers to replace Adam Eaton on their roster.

Our View: Albers was a solid option out of the pen last season, but he struggled in his first eight appearances this season. In 2009, he currently holds a 7.71 ERA and 2.36 WHIP.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 4/28, 2:49 PM CT
Matt Albers has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, according to TSN.

Our View: Melvin Mora has been activated from the DL, and the Orioles demoted Albers to make room on the roster. Albers struggled this season, as he allowed eight earned runs and six walks over 9.1 innings of relief.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 4/15, 10:23 AM CT
Just a few days after being sent to Triple-A, Matt Albers has be recalled by the Baltimore Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun. He will replace Melvin Mora, who was placed on the DL with a strained left hamstring.

Our View: Albers is not much of a fantasy impact player, but he could find himself in the rotation if guys like Adam Eaton continue to struggle. His value would only slightly increase if that happens.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesSunday 4/12, 7:54 AM CT
Matt Albers has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The club needed to make room for Adam Eaton, who will be activated today and will start against the Rays (2-3). The club could have moved Brian Bass, but he is out of minor league options. Albers gave up four hits and one earned run over 2.2 innings of work with Baltimore prior to his demotion.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 4/11, 8:54 AM CT
The Orioles will have to cut someone when they bring up Adam Eaton to start Saturday, and the most likely candidates appear to be Matt Albers and Brian Bass.

Our View: Albers is one of the most talented arms on the team's roster, but he is also one of the very few that has options left. Bass is out of options and would have to go through waivers.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 3/12, 1:40 PM CT
Matt Albers will not be a starter for the Orioles this season, according to the Baltimore Sun. The O's have officially dropped him from the list of pitchers to fill the three open spots in the rotation. He will start the season in the bullpen.

Our View: Albers was vying for a spot in the rotation, but is also pitching with torn cartilage in his shoulder. The team has concerns about his durability and fantasy owners should too. Albers has little value now that he has been relegated to the bullpen.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 9/11, 7:46 PM CT
Matt Albers has spent the last couple of months strengthening his his right shoulder, and though he has shown substantial improvement, the decision was made to hold him out for the rest of the season, according to MLB.com. "He's made a tremendous amount of progress, but it's been mutually agreed upon by all parties that he's not 100 percent to pitch at the Major League level," said manager Dave Trembley.

Our View: Albers will skip the Instructional League this off-season and just work on a traditional throwing schedule to get ready for next season.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 8/23, 7:52 PM CT
Matt Albers isn't going to pitch for the Orioles again this year, according to MLB.com. He is coming back from a labrum tear in his shoulder. "Albers is not going to be a guy that will be called up here in September. We don't need to put his name in the mix," manager Dave Trembley said. "The choice that he made was to rehab it instead of having surgery. Time will tell if he made the right decision or not. My understanding was if he had surgery, it would take eight months to get back. By him rehabbing to this particular point in time, he saved that amount of time. But we'll tell on him next year in Spring Training and when the season starts."

Our View: This is the smart move by the O's. They're going nowhere this year, and Albers is an important part of their future.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 8/20, 10:12 AM CT
Matt Albers, who is recovering from a torn labrum (right shoulder), is slated to throw 30 pitches off a mound on Thursday and Saturday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: He will throw breaking balls along with fastballs and changeups. Barring a setback, he will pitch live batting practice Tuesday. He has a shot to return to Baltimore at some point in September.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 7/2, 6:57 PM CT
Matt Albers has opted to try rehab instead of undergoing surgery on his torn labrum of his right shoulder, according to the AP. Albers said, "I’m still optimistic I’ll be able to pitch this year. I don’t really want to have surgery. I don’t think anyone really wants to."

Our View: His rehab will likely keep him out of action for two months, meaning he isn't worth holding onto as a fantasy prospect.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesFriday 6/27, 6:51 PM CT
Matt Albers' MRI revealed a torn labrum in his ailing right shoulder and he could be done for 2008, according to the AP.

Our View: Albers can choose to rehabilitate the shoulder, which would likely keep him on the shelf for at least two months, or he can opt for surgery and be out of action for eight or nine months, hence ending his 2008 campaign. He will weigh his options over the next couple of days.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 6/26, 12:51 PM CT
Matt Albers has been placed on the 15-day DL due to right shoulder inflammation, according to the AP. The club recalled Fernando Cabrera from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk to fill Albers' spot on the roster.

Our View: Albers was rocked for four earned runs on a third of an inning against the Cubs on Wednesday, while making a spot start in place of Brian Burres. He won't have a rotation spot when he returns, and isn't worth holding onto.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/25, 10:30 PM CT
Matt Albers got the spot start in place of Brian Burress who was unable to go due to the flu. Unfortunately, Albers night was barely any longer as he permitted four runs while recording only one out before being removed from the game with shoulder soreness.

Our View: This was an extremely long night for the Orioles bullpen that actually did a fine job of keeping the team in the game (three ER in 7.2 IP). No word is yet available on the extent of the injury to Albers.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 6/25, 5:21 PM CT
Matt Albers will get the start in place of Brian Burress, who is out with a stomach ailment, according to the Baltimore Sun. This will be Albers' third start of the the season.

Our View: Albers had fairly successful outings in his previous two starts this year. On April 14, he went five innings against Toronto, earning the win while holding them to one run. Then on April 30, he took the loss against Tampa Bay, allowing three runs on four hits in six innings of work.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesSunday 6/1, 11:06 AM CT
Matt Albers could start on Tuesday against the Twins, the Baltimore Sun reports. Triple-A hurler Radhames Liz is also a candidate to replace Steve Trachsel.

Our View: The Orioles could make a more permanent move if Albers or Liz impresses. Trachsel has not pitched well, and these two young right-handers are both in the long-term plans. AL-only fantasy owners may be interested.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 4/30, 9:28 PM CT
Matt Albers continued his impressive start to the season by allowing just three runs over six innings to pick up his first loss of the year.

Our View: Albers has 10 appearances this season including two starts, and he owns a 2.42 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 22.1 IP making him an excellent play in AL Only leagues given that he could stay in the rotation for a while depending on the health reports of Adam Loewen.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 4/23, 12:13 PM CT
Manager Dave Trembley commented on reliever Matt Albers, according to MLB.com. Trembley said, "I don't think it's that he doesn't have the stuff to be a starter. I think it's just his value to us is as a long guy. I think if you use him on our club right now as a starting pitcher, you're opening up a hole in our bullpen that I'm not so sure we can fill right now. I just don't see that. I think he's very valuable what he's doing right now. he fits in rather nicely as a long reliever. I'm talking about the guys that we have up and coming in this organization that we have earmarked to be starting pitchers for us. I think this guy really complements those guys and really establishes a bridge to get to the guys in the eighth and ninth inning. He's almost like a sixth starter. But right now, I see his forte as being a long guy."

Our View: Albers is pitching very well so far, as he has only allowed one run and eight hits over 13.1 innings, with nine strikeouts. While he was pushing for a spot in the rotation, it appears that Trembley will hold him as a reliever, which will hinder his fantasy potential and value.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesMonday 4/14, 9:25 PM CT
Matt Albers delivered beautifully on Monday. He held the Blue Jays to five hits and one run over five innings and improved to 2-0. Albers was making a spot start.

Our View: Albers has yet to allow a run over 11.1 innings this year, and he is pushing for a spot in the rotation. He wasn't able to win a job in spring training, but he's giving the O's ample reason to re-think that call.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesMonday 4/14, 5:12 PM CT
Matt Albers will start for the Orioles on Monday night against the Blue Jays. The club is hoping to get five innings out of the right-hander, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Our View: Albers has been serving as a long reliever, but the Orioles need him on Monday because they had a double-header last Wednesday. This may just be a one-start outing, although Albers nearly made the rotation this spring.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 4/1, 3:17 PM CT
Matt Albers was hitless over 2 2/3 innings against Tampa Bay on Monday, with one strikeout. He has his season off to a great start as he fights for playing time out of the Orioles' pen.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 3/25, 11:38 AM CT
Matt Albers and Brian Burres are reportedly the two finalists for the fifth spot in the Orioles' rotation, according to the Baltimore Sun. Manager Dave Trembley also didn't dismiss the chance that one of the pitchers sent down to minor league camp (Hayden Penn, Garrett Olson or Radhames Liz) could come up during the second week of April and ultimately join the rotation as the fifth starter.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesTuesday 3/18, 4:09 PM CT
Matt Albers and Brian Burres have been competing for the final spot in the Orioles' rotation, but on Tuesday, manager Dave Trembley said that Jon Leicester and Jim Johnson are under consideration, too, according to the Baltimore Sun. Leicester will start Thursday's exhibition game, while Johnson will get an extended look during Sunday's contest. On Tuesday, Albers gave up three runs and three hits over 3 1/3 innings and Burres allowed a run and three hits over three innings. A decision on who will get the nod may come down to the end of spring training. Garrett Olson was in the mix before being sent down on Tuesday.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 3/13, 7:02 AM CT
Orioles manager Dave Trembley told the Baltimore Sun that he is trying to narrow that list of fifth-starter candidates. Matt Albers , Brian Burres, Hayden Penn, Garrett Olson, Radhames Liz, Lance Cormier and Jim Johnson are believed to be in the running, barring late trades or free-agent acquisitions. When fantasy managers face the same fifth starter dilemma at the end of the month, the decision should not include any of the names Baltimore skipper Trembley has in his hat.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesFriday 2/29, 4:54 PM CT
Matt Albers gave up two runs on three hits Friday in a 7-5 win over Florida. Albers is trying to win a spot in the O's rotation, and outings like this don't help his chances.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesFriday 6/29, 6:50 AM CT
Matt Albers was recalled from Triple-A Thursday, the AP reports. He's expected to work in middle relief, though he also has past experience as a starter. Albers was undistinguished in his first go-round with the Astros this year, posting a 6.35 ERA over seven starts.

Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 5/5, 9:22 PM CT
Matt Albers, who was pitching on three days' rest because of Chris Sampson's sinus problems, earned his first major league win on Saturday. He allowed three singles in 7 1/3 innings, struck out two and walked one. "I don't know if it helped me, but I didn't feel any different than I would on normal rest," Albers told the AP. "They say short rest helps your sinker sink a little bit, and maybe it did."
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesThursday 9/21, 8:56 AM CT
Although the Astros have yet to officially announce it, it appears that Matt Albers will start for them on Sunday against St. Louis, according to the Houston Chronicle. "He's going to have to pitch a lot more," manager Phil Garner said of Albers. "He's got a good enough sinker where I think the first time around the lineup he could throw nothing but fastballs and throw them down. He's got a power sinker. It's late, and it's deceptive." Albers holds an ERZ of 6.00 in four games (two starts) for the Astros this year. Albers posted a 12-3 record and 2.49 ERA in 23 Double- and Triple-A starts.
Matt Albers, P, Baltimore OriolesSaturday 8/5, 8:25 AM CT
The Astros optioned Matt Albers to Triple-A Round Rock after Friday's game, according to the Houston Chronicle. He was replaced on their roster by Fernando Nieve. Albers took a loss in his first major league start Thursday and was 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA in three appearances with the Astros.
