Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersThursday 1/21, 2:06 PM CT
Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that the Brewers have avoided arbitration with reliever Todd Coffey by agreeing to a one-year deal. He will be paid $2.025 million.

Our View: Coffey posted a solid 2.90 ERA in 83.2 innings for the Brewers last season, and remained in peak physical condition by sprinting in from the bullpen every time his number was called. Expect more of the same in 2010.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 4/25, 10:43 PM CT
Todd Coffey blew his first save of the season in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Astros. He allowed four hits and three earned runs in the eighth inning.

Our View: It looks as if Carlos Villanueva was slated to resume ninth inning duties tonight. Either way, neither pitcher figures to see closing opportunities much longer as Trevor Hoffman is nearing his return.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 4/22, 8:59 PM CT
Todd Coffey allowed three hits, including a solo home run to Jayson Werth, while picking up his second save of the season on Wednesday. He struck out two other hitters as the Brewers beat the Phillies 3-1.

Our View: The Brewers appear to be going with Coffey over Carlos Villanueva as their closer until Trevor Hoffman returns. Hoffman will likely be back by the weekend, but until then Coffey has some fantasy value. Tonight's run against him was the first he has allowed in 10.2 innings of work this season.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersSunday 3/22, 10:44 PM CT
Todd Coffey struck out three batters while tossing two shutout innings for the Brewers in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Giants.

Our View: Coffey has thrown well for the Brewers ever since they claimed him off waivers last September. He probably won't be much more than your standard middle reliever, but given Milwaukee's bullpen, he could command a ton of appearances this season.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 2/28, 8:14 PM CT
Todd Coffey pitched a solid inning for the Brewers on Saturday, allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Our View: Coffey might be a good guy to get some holds in fantasy leagues, but he probably won't have much value beyond that.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 12/8, 11:04 AM CT
Todd Coffey has re-signed with the Brewers, according to the Denver Post. He agreed to a one-year deal for $800,000.

Our View: Coffey is not a special player, but is good enough to provide adequate depth near the back of the Brewers' bullpen.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 9/10, 2:16 PM CT
Former Reds reliever Todd Coffey was claimed on waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers and will suit up with the team on Thursday, according to Reds.com.

Our View: Coffey is simply depth for the Brewers, and has an ERA of 6.05 with a WHIP of 1.60. In 19.1 innings, he has struck out just eight while walking six. He is not a good fantasy option in any way.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersTuesday 9/9, 2:33 PM CT
Todd Coffey has been designated for assignment by the Reds, according to the AP.

Our View: Coffey held no fantasy value prior to his designation as he struggled with a 6.05 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over 19.1 innings of relief.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 8/1, 7:25 PM CT
Todd Coffey was sent to Triple-A Louisville on Firday in order to make room for Jerry Hairston Jr., according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Coffey has struggled all year for the Reds producing an awful 6.05 ERA and equally poor 3.72 K/9 mark. He has no value of any kind at the moment.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 7/19, 2:12 PM CT

Our View: Coffey will be given another chance. In 14 appearances earlier this season, he managed a 6.46 ERA.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 4/28, 2:31 PM CT
Todd Coffey has been optioned to Triple-A Louisville, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The team called up lefty reliever Bill Bray, and Coffey was seen as expendable to free up a roster spot.

Our View: Coffey allowed 11 earned runs over 15.1 innings, with only five strikeouts and a poor 1.57 WHIP. He held no fantasy value prior to his demotion.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 4/19, 5:28 PM CT
Todd Coffey has had a rough start to the 2008 season, but he still hasn't lost faith in his ability, this according to MLB.com. "That's the difference this year," Coffey said. "Used to be when I got myself into trouble, I couldn't get myself out of it."

Our View: Coffey had a nice outing last time on the hill going 2.1 innings on Friday, though he has little value at the moment except in leagues that reward points for holds.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 3/29, 8:28 AM CT
Reds manager Dusty Baker told Todd Coffey that he has earned a spot on the roster, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "He has zeroes across the board," Baker said. "That's tough to do when you're facing hitters you don't know. ... There's no scouting reports (in spring training)." Coffey shed about 25 pounds during the offseason and allowed just one hit and no runs, while striking out eight batters, in 8 1/3 spring innings.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersSaturday 2/16, 11:12 AM CT
Todd Coffey beat his weight goal this offseason. "I wanted to go from 264 to 240," he tells the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I beat that by a pound. I weigh 239." Coffey, 27, posted a robust 5.32 ERA in 2007.

Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersFriday 6/8, 7:29 PM CT
The Reds optioned Todd Coffey to Triple-A Louisville on Friday, according to the AP. He faced just two batters in two appearances for the Red since being recalled on May 24. The Reds needed a roster spot for rookie pitcher Homer Bailey, and Coffey was the odd man out.
Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersMonday 6/4, 10:02 PM CT
The Reds recall Todd Coffey from Triple-A Louisville before Tuesday's game in St. Louis, according to the AP. He began the season with the Reds and was 1-1 with a 4.94 ERA in 26 relief appearances before he was optioned to Louisville on May 24. Coffey did not allow a run in six appearances for the Bats, striking out nine in 5 2/3 innings.

Todd Coffey, P, Milwaukee BrewersWednesday 12/6, 11:02 AM CT
The Reds have no plans to try Todd Coffey in the closer role again anytime soon, according to the Cincinnati Post. "I really like the role he's coming in with guys on base, he's going to throw strikes, he's not going to walk people," manager Jerry Narron said. "I really think he's best suited for coming in with guys on base who are just starting the sixth, seventh, eighth inning, right in there. That's not to say he'll ever be a closer, but right now he's pretty good at that role."
