Ryan Rowland-Smith held the Rangers to just one run on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings on Saturday. He fanned four and earned his fifth win of the season with the 2-1 victory.

Our View: Rowland-Smith earned his first quality start since September 16th, but had rattled off a stretch of five in a row before that date. He'll finish the season with a 3.74 ERA.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 9/27, 2:58 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith unraveled late on Sunday, allowing five runs after the start of the seventh inning, as Seattle lost 5-4 in Toronto.

Our View: Rowland-Smith has still been a plus for the Mariners since he rejoined the rotation in late July, however, going 4-4 with a 4.07 ERA in 13 starts.

Ryan Rowland-Smith gave up three earned runs on six hits over five innings in Tuesday's 4-3 win at Tampa Bay. He had four walks with one strikeout.

Our View: The Rays tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning, so Rowland-Smith was handed a no-decision. He was a bit of a disappointment tonight after only allowing one earned run over eight innings in his last start against Chicago.

Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 9/11, 12:34 AM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith had a quality outing Thursday, but was handed the loss due to the fact that his offense never showed up. He allowed just three runs by scattering ten hits and a walk over his seven innings of work.

Our View: Rowland-Smith now has four consecutive quality starts and six out of his last seven. His ERA is down to 3.88 on the year and he has recovered nicely from a rocky start to the season.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 9/4, 11:38 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith gave up three earned runs on four hits over eight innings in Friday's 6-3 win at Oakland. He had one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: Rowland-Smith had his longest outing of the season, and now has a winning record at 3-2 as well. He allowed three or less earned runs in each of his last three starts.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 8/30, 9:17 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith held the Royals to just three runs on five hits and a walk over eight innings on Sunday, but was dealt a tough-luck loss as the Mariners were blanked by Zack Greinke in a 3-0 defeat.

Our View: Rowland-Smith fanned seven in the game and pitched well enough to win, but his offense managed just one hit and two total base runners against Greinke. The Mariners hurler now has four quality starts this month.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 8/20, 4:30 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith was rocked for five earned runs on four hits over 5.1 innings in Thursday's 7-6 loss at Detroit. He had four walks and four strikeouts, and gave up two homers.

Our View: The Mariners were leading 6-5 when Rowland-Smith exited, so he ends the day with a no-decision rather than a loss. He was a disappointment after only allowing two earned runs in each of his previous two starts. He is just an option for AL-only leagues.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 8/15, 12:14 AM CT

Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 8/4, 10:59 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith surrendered five runs (four earned) on six hits over four innings in Tuesday's 7-6 win at Kansas City. He had one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View: The Royals were leading 5-4 when he exited the game, so Rowland-Smith takes a no-decision rather than a win. He only allowed two earned runs over seven innings in his previous start against Toronto, and is worth consideration in AL-only leagues for his next turn in the Mariners' rotation.

Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 7/24, 6:25 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith has been recalled by the Mariners from Triple-A Tacoma, according to TSN.

Our View: Rowland-Smith has built up his velocity in the minors, and is slated to start tonight's game against Cleveland at Safeco Field. He has a favorable match-up at home, and is worth a look as a flier if you need help in deeper leagues.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/22, 5:13 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith will start Friday's home game against the Indians, according to the Seattle Times. He was scratched from Wednesday's start with Triple-A Tacoma, and will throw a pen session instead.

Our View: Rowland-Smith holds a 4.31 ERA with Tacoma, and fired nine strikeouts in his last outing. His velocity was up, which led to his promotion for Friday, and he is worth consideration as a flier for deeper fantasy leagues.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/12, 9:48 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that the Mariners are pleased with the progress of starting pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith. Reports are indicating that Rowland-Smith has his velocity up and he is pitching deeper into games.

Our View: This is good news for Mariner fans, as the team could really use another solid starter in their rotation. Rowland-Smith is a talented guy, and the M's are encouraged with his progress. If and when he does come up, he will still have very limited fantasy value, although he could be worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/23, 5:40 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith has been activated from the 15-day DL following his recovery from left triceps tendinitis, according to TSN.

Our View: Rowland-Smith was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, namely as the Mariners have not been pleased with his progress. His pitching speed is down and his change-up is not where he needs it to be. He shall remain stashed in AL-only leagues.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 6/6, 4:01 PM CT
MLB.com reports that the Mariners may have a new game plan for rehabbing starter Ryan Rowland-Smith. He was destroyed in his final rehab start on Friday and the Mariners may not bring him up as quickly after his poor performance.

Our View: The lefty was rocked to the tune of 14 hits and 12 runs in just 4.2 innings in his final rehab start. He was set to return and start next Thursday's game, but the Mariners will likely hold off on that now until he shows he's worthy of starting.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 6/2, 8:47 AM CT
According to the Everett Herald, Ryan Rowland-Smith is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, start a rehab game for Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, and then be activated off the DL on June 11 to start at Baltimore. Rowland-Smith is recovering from left triceps tendinitis.

Our View: This is going to be a busy week for Rowland-Smith, but if all goes well he will be back in a Mariners' uniform next week. Rowland-Smith could be worth a look in AL-only leagues upon his return, but he is not the kind of guy everyone will be rushing out to pick up.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 5/30, 9:06 PM CT

Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/22, 7:39 PM CT
The Seattle Times is reporting that Ryan Rowland-Smith got good news from his MRI on Wednesday, but that he will likely not be ready to come off of the DL when he is eligible. Chris Jakubauskas will continue to pitch in the rotation until Rowland-Smith is ready.

Our View: The good news is that the injury isn't as bad as originally feared, but the bad news is that Rowland-Smith is not expected to be ready in the near future. Keep your eyes open for updates on his condition, but don't expect anything for a few weeks.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 4/15, 6:49 PM CT
The Seattle Times reports that Ryan Rowland-Smith was placed on the 15-day DL Wednesday with triceps tendinitis.

Our View: He was the man cleared to make room for Ichiro's big return, but the tendinitis sounds like a real issue. The Mariners will not call up a replacement starter, and due to their schedule, Felix Hernandez will pitch tomorrow on regular rest.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 2/15, 11:55 AM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith will not pitch for Team Australia in the World Baseball Classic, according to the Post-Intelligencer. While it is something that he really wanted to do, he knows that he is better off preparing for his first full season of being in the Mariners starting rotation.

Our View: Rowland-Smith has some potential so his development is worth watching. In 12 starts last season, he went 3-2 with a 3.50 ERA. Lefties raked him to the tune of .311 and he walks too many hitters while not missing many bats. He has work to do, but the potential is there.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 12/26, 12:11 PM CT
Mariners pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith would like the opportunity to pitch for the Australian team in the World Baseball Classic, but will talk to new manager Don Wakamatsu before doing so, according to Mariners.com.

Our View: Rowland-Smith doesn't want to interfere with his opportunity to make Seattle's starting rotation in spring training, so his status will remain in limbo until that time.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 9/22, 11:59 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith lasted seven innings against the Angels allowing just two runs, one earned, but he was still left with his third loss of the year.

The Twins couldn't get the bats working in their favor and found Seattle LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith too difficult to solve, falling 3-2 to the Mariners. Rowland-Smith pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View: Rowland-Smith moves to 3-2 on the season with a 3.73 ERA. In 24 2/3 innings pitched this month, he has allowed a combined total of 12 earned runs.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersFriday 8/8, 10:58 AM CT
The Tacoma News Tribune reports that Ryan Rowland-Smith has been slated to start Saturday against the Rays.

Our View: He is replacing Miguel Batista, and will remain in the rotation if he proves to be effective. He fared well as a spot starter with the Mariners this season, and is worth a look in AL-only leagues.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/20, 3:01 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, according to the AP. He was moved to free up a roster spot for J.J. Putz, who has been activated from the DL.

Our View: He held a 3.44 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 55 innings this season, with 42 strikeouts. He fared well as a spot starter (made two starts), but was expendable to the club when moved back to the bullpen.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 7/8, 2:24 PM CT
Manager Jim Riggleman has been impressed with Ryan Rowland-Smith over his two starts, and stated that a decision will be made whether to use him mainly in relief or to convert him to a starting pitcher in the rotation, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Riggleman said, "A left-hander who can throw hard is something you always like to have in the rotation. He's making it a tough decision."

Our View: He only allowed one earned run on five hits over five innings in his last start against the Tigers on July 6, and is worth acquiring in AL-only leagues in case Riggleman pulls the trigger on moving him to the rotation.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 7/6, 8:16 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith allowed just one run in five innings of work against the Tigers on Sunday. He had runners on most of the night, though, giving up five hits and walking three.

Our View: The five innings and 87 pitches thrown were both career highs. The Mariners want to turn him into a rotation guy but seem determined not to risk his arm deep into games.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSunday 4/20, 8:15 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith struck out Angels' outfielder Garret Anderson to notch his second save of the season on Sunday.

Our View: The ninth inning committee in Seattle, due to the injury to closer J.J. Putz, continues to find a way to survive.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersTuesday 4/8, 9:49 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith picked up his first career save Tuesday night, pitching 1 2/3 spotless innings while registering two strikeouts. The Mariners are using a committee to replace the injured J.J. Putz, and Rowland-Smith was the beneficiary tonight. Mark Lowe, Sean Green and Eric O'Flaherty could get an opportunity, as well.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersThursday 3/20, 1:15 PM CT
Ryan Rowland-Smith went scoreless over 2.1 innings of work against Arizona on Wednesday, and is yet to allow an earned run this spring over 11 innings. He is fighting for a spot in the Mariners' bullpen.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersMonday 7/30, 9:02 PM CT
The Mariners recalled Ryan Rowland-Smith from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday, according to the AP. He will take Chris Reitsma's spot in the bullpen. Rowland-Smith had a 4.22 ERA in seven appearances earlier this year for Seattle.

Our View: He was 3-4 with one save and a 3.67 ERA in 25 games for Tacoma. He'll mainly be a middle reliever for Seattle.
Ryan Rowland-Smith, P, Seattle MarinersSaturday 6/23, 8:30 AM CT
The Mariners recalled Ryan Rowland-Smith from Triple-A Tacoma prior to Friday's game. He replaced the injured Cha Seung Baek on the roster. Rowland-Smith will give the M's another left-handed option in relief.
