Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 2/13, 1:05 PM CT
Marlins closer Leo Nunez has reportedly gained eight pounds this offseason, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro.

Our View: It's unclear if being too scrawny was what caused Nunez to blow seven saves last season, but a little extra lower-body strength certainly can't hurt.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 1/19, 11:31 AM CT
The Marlins and Leo Nunez have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2 million deal, according to the Miami Herald's Clark Spencer.

Our View: Nunez concluded last season as Florida's closer and finished with 26 saves, though he was shaky at times and will likely have to re-assert himself in spring training if he wants to retain the gig.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsWednesday 9/2, 10:04 PM CT
Leo Nunez blew the save in the ninth innings on Wednesday, but earned the win as the Marlins came away with an 8-7 victory over the Braves.

Our View: Nunez allowed one run on a hit and a pair of walks Wednesday and has now blown five of 22 save opportunities this season. He has filthy stuff, but has trouble maintaining his command of it.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 8/8, 9:53 PM CT
Leo Nunez allowed a run in the ninth inning of Saturday's 6-4 win over the Phillies, but still managed to come away with the save.

Our View: Nunez now has 11 saves for the streaking Marlins and is nine for nine since being named the closer at the end of June. Don't expect him to give that job back to Matt Lindstrom any time soon.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 6/27, 4:43 PM CT
Leo Nunez will indeed be available for the Marlins tonight, but he apparently will not assume Florida's closing duties for the time being, and will instead be used in middle relief until he proves his ankle has fully healed and that he can be effective, according to the Palm Beach Post. "I think it would be irresponsible on my part to run him out there in the ninth inning not knowing how his ankle is going to react," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "The smart thing would be to use him early on."

Our View: Dan Meyer will continue to be used in the ninth inning until Gonzalez feels Nunez is ready, which seems like it should be sooner rather than later, although there's no telling exactly when that time will come. Gonzalez has still yet to name an official closer in Matt Lindstrom's absence, which could be into August as the hurler heals from a sprained right elbow, although Nunez does seem to be the better bet, ahead of Meyer, in the long term. Thus, if you could use some extra saves, Nunez is certainly worth a roster add, but don't expect any saves to come just yet.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 6/27, 9:42 AM CT
According to the Miami Herald, Leo Nunez is ready to assume the closer's role for the Marlins tonight.

Our View: Nunez was anointed as the ninth inning man when incumbent Matt Lindstrom went on the DL, but he has been bothered by an ankle injury the last few days. Nunez says he's ready now though and should a save opportunity arise today he'll get the ball in the ninth.

Skipper Fredi Gonzalez does not anticipate Leo Nunez missing more than a game or two while recovering from a sprained ankle suffered in Tuesday's game, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: If healthy, Nunez could get save opportunities with closer Matt Lindstrom on the shelf. Nunez is worth targeting if available on the waiver wire.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 6/23, 8:34 PM CT
Leo Nunez left Tuesday night's game in the eighth inning with a sprained ankle, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Nunez has been effective as the Marlins primary setup man this season, posting a 3.58 ERA in 32.2 innings. It's likely not serious, and he will probably only miss a few games, if any. Stay tuned for an update.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 10/30, 12:00 PM CT
Leo Nunez was traded on Thursday from the Royals to the Marlins for first baseman Mike Jacobs, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Nunez had a solid year in relief for KC this season, posting a 4-1 record with a 2.98 ERA. He struck out 26 in 48.1 innings. He could give them another option for a closer if they end up moving Kevin Gregg.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsMonday 7/21, 5:50 PM CT
The Royals have activated Leo Nunez from the 15-day DL, MLB.com reports. He had been out since May 27 due to a strained right lat.

Our View: Nunez will reprise his role as a setup man for Joakim Soria. That spot doesn't have much fantasy value in most leagues, but Leo is pretty good at his job.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsFriday 7/18, 2:51 PM CT
Leo Nunez, who is recovering from a strained right lat, is expected to rejoin the Royals' bullpen by Monday's game against the Tigers, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: He has been solid as he only allowed four earned runs over 21 innings, but only holds fantasy value in league's that use setup men.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsSunday 7/13, 8:53 AM CT
Reliever Leo Nunez will return to the Royals after the All-Star break, according to the Kansas City Star. He had been rehabbing a strained right lat.

Our View: Nunez is a good middle reliever , but he only holds value in fantasy leagues that utilize holds. He has seven of them on the season.

Leo Nunez, who is recovering from a strained right lat, is set to begin a rehab assignment on Monday with Triple-A Omaha, according to the Kansas City Star. Manager Trey Hillman said, "There’s a week-long program set for him in Omaha. That will all be determined on how he does in that first outing."

Our View: Nunez remains unlikely to rejoin the club before the All-Star break.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsWednesday 7/2, 9:12 AM CT
The Kansas City Star reports that Leo Nunez will not likely join the Royals before the All-Star break, but he may begin his Triple-A rehab assignment soon. Nuñez is scheduled to throw a few sessions of live batting practice over the next week in Surprise, Ariz., and could begin a formal rehab assignment next week at Omaha.

Our View: Nunez was 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA in 21 appearances before being set back with a strained side. He is a great source of holds with Joakim Soria proving to be one of the most reliable closers in baseball.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 6/14, 7:42 AM CT
Leo Nunez played catch from about 45 feet on Friday. He made roughly 20 throws, the Kansas City Star reports. Nunez is on the DL due to a strained right lat muscle.

Our View: This isn't exactly a step that suggests Nunez is on the verge of returning. He's been out since May 27, and it sounds like he's still not too close.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 5/29, 10:13 AM CT
Reliever Leo Nunez will be placed on the 15-day DL due to a strained right lat, according to MLB.com. Neal Musser has been called up from Triple-A Omaha to fill his spot on the roster. Manager Trey Hillman said, "Nunez had it on and off the last four or five days. He's been fighting the ailment."

Our View: Nunez has been pitching well as he held a 0.95 WHIP over 21 innings, with 14 strikeouts. He registered three wins and one defeat, and is a tough loss for the Royals' bullpen.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsFriday 4/25, 10:27 PM CT
The three runs that Toronto scored off reliever Leo Nunez were the first he had allowed this season. In his first difficult outing of the year, he picked up his second win with the Royals' eighth-inning rally, and the 8-4 win over the Jays.

Our View: In his first eight appearances, covering nine innings, Nunez had yielded just three hits and struck out 10.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 8/16, 10:04 PM CT
Leo Nunez left Thursday night's game against the Rangers in the fourth inning after tearing a callous on his right thumb, according to the AP.

Our View: He'll likely miss at least one start and could be headed to the DL if it doesn't heal quickly.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsWednesday 8/1, 10:08 AM CT
Leo Nunez is likely headed back to Triple-A after the acquisition of Kyle Davies from the Braves. "We're going to put Davies in the rotation," manager Buddy Bell told the Kansas City Star. "We considered putting Noonie in the bullpen, but he did such a good job in starting for us the other day that we want to keep him as a starter."
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsSunday 7/29, 12:51 PM CT
The Royals recalled Leo Nunez from Triple-A Omaha Sunday. Nunez had made 48 relief appearances the past two seasons for the Royals before making his first career big league start on July 17, according to the AP. He will get the ball for the Royals today. Jason Shiell was designated for assignment to make room on the roster.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 7/26, 4:13 AM CT
Leo Nunez will probably get promoted in time to start Sunday against Texas, the AP reports. Look for Nunez to get a shot to fill the rotation spot vacated by the released Scott Elarton.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 7/19, 7:53 AM CT
Leo Nunez was returned to Triple-A Wednesday, one day after his first major league start. Nunez didn't look bad over his four-inning stint (allowing six hits and one run) but the Royals apparently feel they'll have other options healthy and ready to go the next time Nunez's spot would have turned up.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 3/10, 11:23 PM CT
Leo Nunez has a hairline fracture in his right wrist and will miss a month or more, the Royals official site reports.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 8/8, 7:13 PM CT
The Royals optioned Leo Nunez to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, according to the AP. Nunez posted a 4.73 ERA in 13 1/3 IP prior to his demotion.
Leo Nunez, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 7/25, 7:16 PM CT
The Royals recalled Leo Nunez on Tuesday to take the roster spot of Mike MacDougal, who was dealt to the White Sox yesterday, according to the AP. Nunez, who held a 3.86 in 2 1/3 innings with the Royals earlier in the year, will work in middle relief for the big-league club.
