"I think it would be irresponsible on my part to run him out there in the ninth inning not knowing how his ankle is going to react," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "The smart thing would be to use him early on." |
Our View: Dan Meyer will continue to be used in the ninth inning until Gonzalez feels Nunez is ready, which seems like it should be sooner rather than later, although there's no telling exactly when that time will come. Gonzalez has still yet to name an official closer in Matt Lindstrom's absence, which could be into August as the hurler heals from a sprained right elbow, although Nunez does seem to be the better bet, ahead of Meyer, in the long term. Thus, if you could use some extra saves, Nunez is certainly worth a roster add, but don't expect any saves to come just yet.
