Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsMonday 6/8, 3:24 PM CT
Hayden Penn has been sent to Triple-A New Orleans according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Penn was designated for assignment last Wednesday after issuing three straight bases loaded walks in a loss to the Brewers.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 6/4, 7:32 PM CT
As expected, Hayden Penn has been designated for assignment by the Marlins, according to the Associated Press. Tim Wood was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans to take his spot on the roster.

Our View: Penn was designated a day after issuing three straight walks with the bases loaded. He will not be missed in fantasy leagues while working on his control in the minors.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 6/4, 10:05 AM CT
According to MLBlogs.com, the Marlins will designate reliever Hayden Penn for assignment. Penn has struggled this season, compiling a 7.77 ERA in 22 innings. He will likely be replaced by reliever Tim Wood on the roster.

Our View: Penn was just not very good this season, although he did show the ability to strike guys out. His 27 K's in 22 innings is nice, but he also gave up 19 runs during that span. He has no fantasy value going forward.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsWednesday 5/20, 12:29 PM CT
Hayden Penn will start the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader against Arizona, according to the Miami Herald. Penn may be on a pitch count but he said, "I am going to try to go as deep as I can."

Our View: Penn will be making his first start since 2006 when he was a member of the Orioles. He may only be able to handle 60-70 pitches and does not merit fantasy consideration outside of deeper NL-only leagues.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 5/2, 11:19 AM CT
Reliever Hayden Penn will be available on Saturday even though he rolled his right ankle on Friday, the Miami Herald reports.

Our View: The Marlins appreciate all the concerns and sympathy cards. Thankfully, Penn has survived the incident.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsFriday 5/1, 3:46 PM CT
Hayden Penn exited Friday's game at Wrigley Field in the sixth inning with a leg injury.

Our View: The injury does not appear to be serious, but the Marlins are yet to update the reliever's status.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsWednesday 4/1, 12:07 PM CT
The Orioles have traded pitcher Hayden Penn to the Marlins in exchange for infielder Robert Andino, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Our View: Penn, 24, was once a promising prospect, but he has struggled over the last couple seasons and was roughed up again this spring. The Marlins never seemed to have space for Andino, 24, who can play multiple infield positions. This boils down to a trade of two guys who are probably happy to get fresh starts with new organizations. Penn won't have a fantasy impact with the Marlins.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 3/26, 3:24 PM CT
Orioles pitcher Hayden Penn was terrible on Thursday in the team's 11-6 loss to the Marlins. He threw just 2.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs on five hits and three walks.

Our View: Fantasy owners should just ignore him for the time being, and so should the Orioles. He may still make the rotation but that seems unlikely given his spring ERA of 8.78.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsFriday 8/15, 11:28 AM CT
Hayden Penn will be shut down for several weeks with Triple-A Norfolk due to his ailing right shoulder, according to the Baltimore Sun. Team physician Dr.John Wilckens found no structural damage, but the team decided it was best to shut him down with little left to play for this season.

Our View: He is a top pitching prospect, but will likely have to wait until next season to pitch for Baltimore.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 8/5, 11:11 PM CT
Hayden Penn worked five scoreless innings for Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday night. He allowed four hits, walked none, and struck out three. Penn had been a candidate to move to the majors, but a broken bat cut his leg on Saturday.

Our View: Penn, 23, has been pretty sharp over three of his last four outings, with the exception being when he took the bat to the leg. The right-hander could come up for his next turn. He is too risky for fantasy leagues right now, but AL-only owners will want to keep an eye on the situation.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsMonday 8/4, 11:32 AM CT
The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Hayden Penn has had yet another freaky injury that will likely cost him any chance to return to the starting rotation. Two seasons ago, Penn needed an emergency appendectomy before his first start of the 2006 season. Then last year he he missed three months after having bone chips removed from his right elbow. Penn was cut in the leg by a piece of a broken bat during his start on Saturday, this after he was rumored to return to the O's rotation on Tuesday for injured Radhames Liz.

Our View: Brad Bergesen now becomes the most likely candidate to start Tuesday against the Angels.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 7/29, 7:33 PM CT
Oriole rospects Hayden Penn and Brad Bergesen are among the early favorites for a promotion to Baltimore as the team considers a replacement for injured Radhames Liz, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Penn has been on the radar for some time, just the third Orioles pitcher since 1967 to make his Major League debut before the age of 21. That came in 2005, and each of the last two seasons have been interrupted by injury. This season he is 5-6 with a 4.98 ERA for Triple-A Norfolk this year. Bergesen is 13-3 with a 2.68 ERA for Double-A Bowie and has a 3-0 mark and a 1.35 ERA in his last three outings.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsFriday 4/4, 11:57 AM CT
Hayden Penn's 2008 minor league season got off to a bad start Thursday, as he allowed six earned runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings. Penn remains a candidate to get some starts with the Orioles this season, but starts like this one will not help his cause.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 3/13, 10:10 AM CT
Fantasy owners can take Hayden Penn's name out of the O's battle-hat for the No. 5 slot in the starting rotation. The Orioles sent four players to their minor league camp on Thursday, including Penn, according to the Baltimore Sun. With Troy Patten out to a shoulder injury, and Steve Trachsel a default starter due to injuries, the final placement could go to Radhames Liz. The young right-hander has not only improved his mechanics this spring, he's pitched four scoreless innings as of March 11th.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 2/16, 10:06 AM CT
Hayden Penn is eager to show the Orioles that he's suited for a rotation spot. He made his big league debut in 2005 but has been hampered by injuries ever since. "I really think I do need to reprove myself to the organization," he tells the Baltimore Sun. "The last couple of years has been tough, and it almost feels like I'm starting over from where I was three years ago."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsSunday 4/22, 6:33 AM CT
Hayden Penn remains on the minor league disabled list due to what now has been diagnosed as a bone spur in his right elbow, according to the Baltimore Sun. At this point, he's not expected to require surgery and will simply rehab the injury.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsSaturday 4/14, 6:06 AM CT
Calling it a precautionary measure, the Orioles have placed Hayden Penn on the minor league disabled list due to soreness in his right forearm, according to the Baltimore Sun. "We backdated it, and we still think he could pitch five days from now," said Dave Stockstill, director of minor league operations. Orioles orthopedist Dr. Andrew Cosgarea likely will examine Penn this weekend to make sure the injury isn't more serious. Penn had a shot to join the O's to replace the injured Jaret Wright before the injury came on.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 4/12, 6:27 AM CT
Hayden Penn is scheduled to pitch tomorrow for Triple-A Norfolk if the discomfort in his forearm subsides, and if the weather permits, according to the Baltimore Sun. He was scratched from Tuesday's start due to soreness in his right forearm area. The setback likely would keep Penn from filling in for Jaret Wright, if Wright can't go this weekend.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsSunday 3/25, 2:59 PM CT
The Orioles optioned Hayden Penn to Triple-A on Sunday, according to the AP. Penn held a 1.80 ERA this spring, although he issued seven walks in 10 innings. "If he'd have wowed us, we seriously would have considered (keeping him)," Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo said. "We certainly want him to be in a position where he's pitching so well that we have to bring him up, which is what we did in the past."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsFriday 3/23, 9:31 AM CT
Hayden Penn is still in the running to make the Orioles staff but probably not as a starter, the Baltimore Sun reports. Penn is starting one of Baltimore's split-squad games Saturday, a key chance to make one more impression. He's got a 3.00 ERA in six innings so far this month.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsMonday 3/19, 6:36 AM CT
Hayden Penn met with and apologized to manager Sam Perlozzo and bench coach Tom Trebelhorn for driving back to Fort Lauderdale Saturday to retrieve his equipment bag, according to the Baltimore Sun. "There really was no air to clear," Perlozzo said. "The only mistake that Hayden made, or the only thing that bothered me, was that he didn't trust me to call. It's a simple thing. It's not a big deal. He noticed it."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsSunday 3/4, 7:42 AM CT
Hayden Penn threw a solid side session Friday and likely will get into an exhibition game later next week, according to the Baltimore Sun. He's recovering from a mildly sprained left ankle.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsWednesday 2/28, 8:27 AM CT
Hayden Penn is expected to return to the mound in two or three days after being diagnosed with a mild left ankle sprain, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I was carrying boxes downstairs and they were kind of slippery," he said. "That last stair, I tried to anticipate it and just rolled it. Right away, I was like, 'Oh, God, here we go.' I'm glad it didn't turn out too bad. I'm looking forward to getting out there soon."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 2/27, 8:42 AM CT
Hayden Penn twisted his left ankle while carrying boxes on stairs after Sunday's workout, according to the Baltimore Sun. He has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 sprain. "Obviously, it's going to push him back, and the farther it pushes him back, the tougher it's going to be for him to win a spot," manager Sam Perlozzo said. "Hopefully, in a day or so, it won't be so serious and we can get him on the hill and we can try to not have him lose so much time."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsMonday 2/19, 7:41 AM CT
The Orioles and Hayden Penn finalized a one-year contract on Sunday, according to the Baltimore Sun. With Kris Benson likely done for the season with a shoulder injury, Penn will compete for a spot at the bottom of the rotation this spring.

Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 9/28, 8:33 AM CT

Hayden Penn will make one more start with Rodrigo Lopez still experiencing soreness in his pitching arm, according to the Baltimore Sun. He'll start on Wednesday against Tampa Bay.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsSunday 9/17, 6:27 AM CT
Hayden Penn has been hit hard his past three starts, so manager Sam Perlozzo met with the rookie on Saturday, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I felt like I needed to have a little chat with him just to see where he was coming from, with his mental state and what's been going on," Perlozzo said. "It's obvious that this has not been the Hayden Penn that we know. I wanted to relax him a little bit and tell him that I am still in his corner. He's a young guy." Perlozzo said he wasn't sure whether Penn will make his next start.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 9/5, 8:28 AM CT
Manager Sam Perlozzo has stated that he may use Hayden Penn out of the bullpen over the next several days to get the youngster some work before his next start, which is set for Sunday, according to the Baltimore Sun. Penn was hammered in his season debut on Sunday, lasting just 2/3 of an inning and allowing eight runs. "[Orioles executive vice president Mike Flanagan] and I are still talking about what we are going to do there," Perlozzo said. "With Hayden only going two-thirds of an inning, you don't want to see it happen, but you almost feel like you have to get him in the game."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsSunday 9/3, 4:20 PM CT
As expected, the Orioles recalled Hayden Penn from Triple-A Ottawa to start Sunday's game, according to the AP. Penn was rocked for eight runs on eight hits in just 2/3 of an inning.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsFriday 9/1, 6:45 AM CT
Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo confirmed yesterday that Hayden Penn will be recalled from Triple-A Ottawa to start Sunday's game, according to the Baltimore Sun. He was nearly called up earlier this season before having an emergency appendectomy. He'll have a tough matchup against the A's in what will be his season debut.
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsMonday 8/28, 6:30 AM CT
After Hayden Penn pitched eight scoreless innings for Triple-A Ottawa Saturday, Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo announced that Penn would be recalled when rosters expand Friday and inserted into the rotation, according to the Baltimore Sun. Perlozzo wasn't sure if he'd go to a six-man rotation or replace a starter with Penn. "We'll have to figure out a way to get him in there," Perlozzo said. "First of all, I'll tell you there's nothing set. Anything can happen from here on out. But I would think he'd [start] in the first few days of September. I would hope that would be the plan, somehow."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsWednesday 8/23, 8:33 AM CT
Manager Sam Perlozzo said that when Hayden Penn is called up in September, the Orioles could use a six-man rotation, according to the Baltimore Sun. It is also possible that Penn could work out of the bullpen. "[The bullpen] could be possible," said Perlozzo. "I would think if we bring him up, we would want to pitch him somewhere along the line. I don't know how we're going to do that yet. He could start and someone else could get bumped."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsWednesday 8/16, 6:54 AM CT
Although Hayden Penn was knocked around for five earned runs, including two homers, in 7 2/3 innings with Triple-A Ottawa yesterday, it appears the O's are getting closer to recalling their top pitching prospect, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I think it's going to be sooner rather than later for the kid," vice president Jim Duquette said. "He's going to be up soon."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsTuesday 8/8, 8:30 AM CT
Manager Sam Perlozzo stated Monday that Hayden Penn is still not ready to be called up to the big leagues, but that he could be ready soon, according to the Baltimore Sun. In 10 starts at Triple-A, Penn is 4-3 with a 2.28 ERA.

Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsThursday 7/20, 6:32 AM CT
Recovering from appendicitis, Hayden Penn threw six scoreless innings in his most recent rehab outing, according to the Baltimore Sun. "He's 100 percent healthy, but he's not at 100 percent with his strength," Orioles vice president Jim Duquette said. "He's trying to get back into better shape, trying to get his feet back under him." Manager Sam Perolozzo wouldn't commit to Penn joining the Orioles once activated. "For those (minor league) guys to come back here, we have to have enough guys not doing well," he said. "And I hate to wish for some of our guys to not do well."
Hayden Penn, P, Florida MarlinsMonday 5/22, 10:51 PM CT
Hayden Penn underwent surgery for appendicitis Monday night and was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday against the Mariners, according to the AP.
