Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 9/27, 5:13 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt provided the offense for Zack Greinke and the Royals on Sunday. He went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and two runs scored in the 4-1 over the Twins.

Our View: It was a nice effort by Betancourt on Saturday, but he's hitting just .246 with six homers and 48 RBI this season and is not worth fantasy consideration.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 9/23, 10:42 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt was productive in tonight's 9-2 loss to Boston at Kauffman Stadium, as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He hit a triple and two singles.

Our View: Betancourt hit his sixth triple of 2009, with his last one coming back on August 13 at Minnesota. One more triple would set a new personal season high for him.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 8/3, 3:32 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt led the way for the Royals' offense on Monday, but his team fell to the Rays by a score of 10-4. Betancourt went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored, and an RBI in the loss.

Our View: Betancourt launched his third homer of the year and his first with the Royals, but he is still far from being a fantasy-worthy shortstop. He has no power to speak of despite the homer today, and his .228 average leaves plenty to be desired.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 7/21, 9:36 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt is the worst fielding shortstop in baseball, according to SI.com.

Our View: Using two different methods (including UZR), the Web site determined that the athletic Betancourt is in fact the worse than all other shortstops in the league, including even Derek Jeter. He is fourth to last amongst AL shortstops in errors this season, with nine in 64 games.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 7/16, 5:14 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt has been activated from the disabled list.

Our View: The Royals' big midseason acquisition can now finally play a game for them. He is hitting just .250 for the season, but could be a good candidate to buy low or add because of his tendency to play better in the second half and the fact that he might be rejuvenated by his new team.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 7/10, 2:41 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt has been traded to the Kansas City Royals, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: The Royals gave up minor league pitchers Danny Cortes and Derrick Saito in return. Betancourt was batting just .250 through 224 at-bats this season, but is a career .279 hitter in 588 games. Even though he has underperformed in 2009, he represents a major upgrade over Wille Bloomquist at shortstop for the Royals. He could merit fantasy consideration if he is rejuvenated from joining his new team.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 7/10, 9:01 AM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt is close to being traded, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: No concrete scenarios are mentioned in the article, but it does say the Mariners have interest in both Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson on the Pirates. Betancourt is batting .250 in 63 games in 2009.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 7/9, 10:09 AM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt made his first rehab start for Triple-A on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Mariners' manager Don Wakamatsu told the media that Betancourt will play at least three games in Triple-A before the team will consider bringing him back.

Our View: Betancourt is recovering nicely from his hamstring injury, and he should be able to return to the lineup soon. Expect him to be back right after the All-Star break unless he suffers a setback.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/8, 9:43 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that injured Mariners' shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt worked out his injured hamstring again on Tuesday. Betancourt felt good, and he may begin a short rehab assignment soon. The team would like him to play a few games in the minors before he returns to the lineup.

Our View: It sounds like Yuni is close, but he just has to pass this one last test. Assuming all goes well during the rehab stint, expect him back in the M's lineup right after the break.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 7/6, 8:14 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt is not likely to return to the Mariners before the All-Star break while recovering from a strained right hamstring, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: He is feeling better though, and skipper Don Wakamatsu will test his hamstring, and Betancourt could get the green light to start a rehab assignment if he passes without any issues. Betancourt shall remain stashed on fantasy rosters.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/1, 10:55 AM CT
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, Yuniesky Betancourt could return as early as next week from his hamstring injury and become the Mariners' everyday second baseman.

Our View: Contrary to previous reports, he is closer to returning than expected. Normally a shortstop, Betancourt could play second while Ronnie Cedeno (who is doing a fine job filling in) remains at short and regular second sacker Jose Lopez could slide across the diamond and fill in at third for the injured Adrian Beltre.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 6/29, 10:22 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Mariner manager Don Wakamatsu believes that shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt will be sidelined for another two-to-three weeks with his hamstring injury. Betancourt was placed on the 15-day DL last week.

Our View: This is a more accurate timetable for Betancourt, so anyone hanging onto him should make note that he is still pretty far away from a return. Betancourt isn't a great fantasy option, so if you can find someone while he is out you may want to consider keeping them and parting ways with Yuni.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 6/25, 3:48 PM CT
Updating a previous report, the Mariners have placed shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt on the 15-day DL with a strained right hamstring, according to The Sports Network. He will be replaced on the roster by the newly activated Jose Lopez.

Our View: It was almost a certainty that Betancourt was hitting the DL, so this should come as no big surprise to owners. If you haven't done so already, you should find a replacement for the time being.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 6/25, 11:10 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Mariners' shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt exited Wednesday night's game in the eighth inning with an apparent hamstring injury. There appears to be a strong chance that he is destined for a trip to the DL.

Our View: Betancourt is scheduled to have an MRI today, but it doesn't look good. Expect him to make his first career trip to the DL, so fantasy owners should start looking for a replacement at this point. We will keep you updated on his status.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 6/21, 7:04 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 3-2 win over Arizona a Safeco Field. All three of his knocks were singles.

Our View: Betancourt needed a strong performance, as he was hitting an anemic .189 in June heading into today's game. He should remain too inconsistent to use outside of deeper fantasy leagues.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 6/10, 3:33 PM CT
Shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday night, the Seattle Times confirms. He rode the bench over the last four games, and Ronny Cedeno started in his place. On Tuesday, Betancourt failed to show up for batting practice.

Our View: We don't hear a lot of rejoicing from fantasy owners. Betancourt has not had a good year, and manager Don Wakamatsu is making it clear that he won't put up with players who don't give a full effort.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 6/9, 3:48 PM CT
Shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt will sit out his fourth straight game on Tuesday according to The Seattle Times.

Our View: Betancourt is not hurt. Ronny Cedeno is starting in his place.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 5/21, 8:36 AM CT
Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times confirmed that Yuniesky Betancourt is on the Mariners' trading block, and the Padres could be involved.

Our View: There is a rumor swirling that the Mariners could acquire outfielder Chase Headley and Triple-A second baseman Matt Antonelli from San Diego in a package for Betancourt. The shortstop was previously rumored to be going to Pittsburgh in exchange for Jack Wilson.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 5/19, 5:58 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt is not in the Mariners' lineup Tuesday, according to the Seattle Times. He will be replaced by Ronny Cedeno at shortstop.

Our View: Betancourt has made two errors in the last two games, both of which cost his team a run. The Mariners want to put the best defensive lineup out there for ace Feliz Hernandez tonight, so Betancourt sits. His fantasy value is pretty much nonexistent at this point.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 5/15, 6:18 PM CT
According to the Seattle Times, Yuniesky Betancourt is back in the Mariners' lineup Friday night. Betancourt was benched on Wednesday by manager Don Wakamatsu for his lackadaisical play.

Our View: Betancourt has not been very good lately, but maybe his benching will light a fire under him. His fantasy value is low right now, but if he get his issues in order he could return to an AL-only quality shortstop.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 5/13, 7:57 PM CT
According to MLB.com, Yuniesky Betancourt was benched for Wednesday's game in favor of Ronnie Cedeno.

Our View: Betancourt was chided by Manager Don Wakamatsu for lackadaisical play in the field and lack of discipline at the plate. He's been muffing grounders and struggling offensively so the Mariners felt it was time for a change. After multiple costly errors and a 2-for-22 skid the Mariners have a point.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 4/4, 8:32 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt was 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Rockies.

Our View: Betancourt is going undrafted in most leagues despite hitting .400 with three home runs this spring. He figures to hit ninth in the Mariners lineup in 2009.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 3/18, 11:24 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt was 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Royals.

Our View: Betancourt is starting to make some noise, and has solid spring numbers to this point. Wait to see if he wins the starting job to judge his true fantasy value.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 2/18, 1:49 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt is being held out of full workouts right now while nursing a tight hamstring, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: Betancourt has failed to make an impact with Seattle so far, and the club added Ronny Cedeno to push him at shortstop, making him an unstable fantasy option for 2009, regardless of his hamstring ailment.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 11/5, 12:44 PM CT
The Royals are believed to be interested in Mariners' shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: The Mariners and Royals previously talked about a Betancourt deal in exchange for Billy Butler before the 2007 season. Betancourt is not as good as he should be defensively, and is only a .282 career hitter. He is worth acquiring, just as long as the Royals don't overpay.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 9/27, 6:20 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt was 3-for-3 in the Mariners' 7-3 win over the A's.

Our View: Betancourt is 12-for-22 in his past five games but is still not worth a fantasy spot.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsSunday 4/27, 7:23 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt hit his first homer of the season in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Oakland.

Our View: The offensive liability, has hit a surprising .296 in April with seven RBI, and 17 runs scored.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsTuesday 4/22, 3:17 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt will return to the lineup at shortstop tonight, following two straight days off, according to MLB.com.

Our View: He is hitting 17-for-65 so far, and is being more selective at the plate, as he only struck out four times. He should be refreshed tonight, when he battles righty Jeremy Guthrie of the Orioles.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 4/5, 9:44 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt picked up two more hits on Saturday to up his average to .444 in 18 AB for the Mariners. Betancourt continues to swing away from the ninth spot in the order. After two nearly identical seasons at the plate, the hope is that Bentacourt will show some plate discipline and hopefully turn into a .300 hitter. Time will tell.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 3/28, 12:38 AM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt went 2-for-2 and collected five RBI against San Francisco on Thursday, with most of his damage coming on a three run homer, his second of spring training. He raised his average to .302 and seems ready to roll heading into opening day.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 3/14, 10:45 PM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt continues to show strong bat potential since being moved up in the order. In today's 9-4 win over the Rockies, Betancourt hit third in the order, going 2-for-4 with a run scored (and was caught stealing). Suddenly the SS for the Mariners is starting to become rather attractive, hitting well and proving he deserves a shot in an active batting order.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 3/5, 9:17 PM CT
Updating an earlier story, Yuniesky Betancourt went 3-for-4 and scored a run in the Mariners' 6-5 victory over the Angels in Cactus League play, according to the Associated Press.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 3/5, 3:29 PM CT
The Mariners are using Yuniesky Betancourt in the No. 2 spot of the lineup on Wednesday. "We want to take a look at it." manager John McLaren informs the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Thus far, Betancourt is 2-for-2 in the game. The 26-year-old shortstop is an AL-only player when working out of the No. 8 or No. 9 spot, but if it works out, this move makes him more intriguing in mixed leagues.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 9/28, 12:13 PM CT
It's unclear if Yuniesky Betancourt will be able to return this season, according to the Seattle Times. Betancourt, who is dealing with a right elbow injury, is still considered day-to-day.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsThursday 9/27, 11:33 AM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt is listed as "day to day" after an MRI exam Wednesday revealed a Grade 1 sprain of the flexor bundle in his right elbow, according to the Seattle Times. He suffered the injury while making a throw to first base on Saturday. Betancourt is unlikely to play Thursday, and the Mariners could simply decide to shut him down for the rest of the year.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 9/26, 10:09 PM CT

Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 4/4, 9:46 AM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt could miss Friday's day game at Cleveland due to a court matter in Florida, the Seattle Times reports. Betancourt is testifying at the smuggling trial of agent Gustavo "Gus" Dominguez, who is charged with 53 counts of trying to smuggle Cuban baseball players into the United States. Seattle manager Mike Hargrove says he'll use Betancourt Friday if the shortstop can get to the park in time.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsSaturday 9/23, 7:48 AM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt probably will not play on Saturday, according to the Seattle Times. After being hit by a pitch on Thursday, he was diagnosed with a bruise on the bone of his right leg. He should be ready for Sunday's contest, though.

Yuniesky Betancourt was out of the lineup Friday, a day after leaving the game in the ninth inning after being hit in the right knee with a pitch, according to the AP. Manager Mike Hargrove was optimistic that Betancourt would be able to play soon. "I think it's reasonable to think tomorrow," Hargrove said. "If not tomorrow, then Sunday for sure. But that's just a guess. It's really a day-to-day thing."
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsFriday 9/22, 8:50 AM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt left Thursday's game in the ninth inning after being hit in the right knee with a pitch, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports. The Mariners would be lucky to get him back by Sunday, though it wouldn't be a surprise if he didn't play until next week. "I'm just happy it's not as bad as I thought it might be," Betancourt said.
Yuniesky Betancourt, SS, Kansas City RoyalsMonday 8/14, 8:16 AM CT
Yuniesky Betancourt was moved up to second in the Mariners' batting order on Sunday, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "He's swinging the bat real well ... we'll give it a shot and see what happens," manager Mike Hargrove said. "I don't necessarily want to have to do that, and I don't anticipate doing that more than just tonight. But if Betancourt swings the bat the way he has been, it gives him at least one more at-bat in the game." Betancourt hadn't been higher in the order than seventh this season.
