Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 9/27, 6:20 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy had a stellar outing on Sunday, but was denied the win when the Rangers bullpen imploded against the Rays for seven runs in the final two innings of a 7-6 loss.

Our View: For his part, McCarthy allowed two runs (zero earned) on six hits and a walk over 7.2 innings. He fanned three and kept the Rays in the park all game, but could have used a well deserved win. He hasn't won in his last three starts despite pitching pretty well.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersWednesday 9/23, 12:05 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits over 5.1 innings in Tuesday's 9-1 loss at Oakland. He had two walks and fired five strikeouts.

Our View: McCarthy was dealt a loss, and is now 2-2 over four starts in September. He gave up 10 earned runs over his last three outings.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 9/15, 10:57 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits over three innings in Tuesday's 6-1 loss to Oakland at Rangers Ballpark. He had three walks with two strikeouts.

Our View: McCarthy is 2-1 with a 5.17 ERA over three starts in September. He gave up eight earned runs over his last two outings.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 9/8, 10:47 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy was rocked for five earned runs on five hits over 6.1 innings in Tuesday's 10-5 win at Cleveland in the nightcap of their doubleheader. He had two walks with four strikeouts, and gave up two homers.

Our View: McCarthy did not pitch well tonight, but still earned his seventh win, thanks to the hot bats of his teammates. The Rangers had 18 hits in the game.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 9/1, 10:38 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy only surrendered one earned run on three hits over 6.1 innings in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Jays at Rangers Ballpark in the nightcap of their doubleheader. He had two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View: McCarthy looked good tonight while fresh off the DL following his recovery from a stress fracture in his right shoulder. He should earn more starts in the Rangers' rotation, and is worth targeting as a flier for deeper leagues.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 9/1, 4:14 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy has been activated from the DL following his recovery from a stress fracture in his right shoulder, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: McCarthy is slated to start the second game of tonight's doubleheader against the Blue Jays at Rangers Ballpark. His status in the rotation could depend on how he fares tonight.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersFriday 8/21, 11:12 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy is scheduled to make another rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, according to MLB.com. McCarthy may make one more start after Saturday before returning to the team to start a game of their doubleheader against the Blue Jays on September 1.

Our View: McCarthy should return to the team in time for that September 1 start, but he likely won't remain in the rotation after that unless he really shows the team something. He hasn't been great on his rehab stint so far, and he looks like a long shot to make much of a contribution down the stretch.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersMonday 8/10, 11:36 AM CT
Injured Rangers' starter Brandon McCarthy got roughed up in his first rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, according to MLB.com. McCarthy lasted only one inning and allowed five runs on four hits while walking one and striking out one.

Our View: This is not what the Rangers wanted to see in this start. McCarthy has been out since June 9, and it looks like he still has a long way to go before he is ready to contribute at the major league level. He shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar for this season.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersWednesday 8/5, 8:33 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy is set to begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Oklahoma City, according to MLBblogs.com. He has been on the shelf since June 9 due to a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade.

Our View: He is slated to pitch 2-3 innings, and will make at least four starts prior to getting the green light to return to Texas. We will keep you posted on his progress.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersMonday 8/3, 10:31 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that injured Rangers' starter Brandon McCarthy threw 35 pitches during batting practice on Sunday. McCarthy said he still has a bit of work to do before his stamina is good enough for him to start.

Our View: It is good that McCarthy is throwing and that he feels good, but it sounds like he is still a long way away from rejoining the rotation. He should be back at some point this month, but it doesn't sound like it will be soon.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersMonday 7/20, 8:30 AM CT
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Rangers' starter Brandon McCarthy threw from 90 feet on Sunday and plans to do the same on Monday. McCarthy has been on the DL since June 9 with a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade.

Our View: McCarthy is hopeful that he will be able to return to the mound next month, and the Rangers would sure like to have him back as soon as possible. They won't rush him, but they aren't going to be overly cautious either. Barring a major setback, expect McCarthy to return to the rotation at some point in August.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 7/9, 9:34 AM CT
According to MLB.com, Rangers' starter Brandon McCarthy is throwing from 60 feet and should start a long toss program next week. McCarthy is on the DL with a stress fracture in his right shoulder.

Our View: This is a good first step for McCarthy, and it will be even better when he begins long toss next week. He should still be out for a good amount of time, and he will have very little fantasy value upon his return.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 7/7, 7:04 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy has been transferred from the 15 to the 60-day DL by the Rangers, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: McCarthy has been on the shelf since June 9 due to a stress fracture in his right shoulder. He will not return to Texas until at least August, and is only worth stashing in deeper fantasy leagues.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 7/7, 9:46 AM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Rangers' pitcher Brandon McCarthy has begun a throwing program. He has been on the DL since early June with a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade.

Our View: It is nice to see McCarthy progressing, but it will be at least August before he is able to return to the team. He won't have much fantasy value upon his return, especially since we don't know for sure if he will rejoin the rotation.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersMonday 6/8, 5:36 PM CT
It has been revealed that Brandon McCarthy has a stress fracture in his right shoulder, according to the Star-Telegram. It is similar to the injury he dealt with two years ago, and McCarthy will be on the shelf for at least several weeks.

Our View: McCarthy is bound for the 15-day DL. Doug Mathis is expected to take his turn in the rotation Tuesday.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 6/4, 4:01 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy struggled mightily in Thursday's matinee at Yankee Stadium as the Rangers fell to New York 8-6. McCarthy went four innings and allowed six runs on six hits while walking three and striking out three. He did not factor into the decision.

Our View: McCarthy has managed to put up decent numbers this season, but he didn't have his stuff today. He has five wins so far in 2009, which is nice, but his ERA is at 4.92 after today's game. He is an average-to-below average fantasy pitcher, so don't let the win total fool you.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSaturday 5/30, 10:45 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy only allowed one earned run on three hits over six innings in Saturday's 14-1 win over Oakland at Rangers Ballpark. He had three walks with two strikeouts.

Our View: Other than the three free passes, it was a great outing for McCarthy as he claimed his fifth win of the season. He has won back-to-starts, and is pitching very well right now.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 5/24, 7:50 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy went the distance on Sunday, shutting out the Astros with a nine-hit, one-walk, six-strikeout performance. He improved to 4-2 as the Rangers topped Houston 5-0.

Our View: McCarthy was brilliant in this one. It was his second quality start in a row after getting rocked in consecutive starts earlier in the month.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 5/19, 8:39 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy pitched well on Tuesday, but he took the loss as the Rangers fell 4-0 to the Tigers. McCarthy went seven innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits while walking three and striking out four.

Our View: This makes two good starts in a row for McCarthy, but he has nothing to show for them. He is starting to get more consistent, but if he can't put tallies up in the win column his fantasy value will suffer.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersWednesday 5/13, 11:00 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy pitched pretty well on Wednesday but did not factor into the decision as the Rangers beat the Mariners 6-5 in eleven innings. McCarthy went seven innings and allowed four runs on five hits while walking one and striking out seven.

Our View: McCarthy is 3-1 on the year, but you wouldn't know it by looking at his stats. His ERA is 5.92, but his lineup is getting the job done for him. Don't expect him to give many lights out performances, but he is a decent pitcher who has a very good lineup backing him.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 5/7, 6:08 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy suffered his first loss of the season as the Rangers fell to the A's 9-4 on Thursday. He allowed seven hits, three walks, and seven earned runs while striking out four.

Our View: McCarthy had skated to a 3-0 record while posting a 4.67 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through his first five starts. Aside from his record, he has been a mediocre pitcher this season and is not currently worth a spot on fantasy rosters.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 5/3, 12:12 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy only allowed one earned run on three hits over five innings in Saturday's 9-6 win over the White Sox at Rangers Ballpark. He racked up three strikeouts with no walks.

Our View: McCarthy improves to 3-0 as he beat his former team. He is worth acquiring if still dangling on the waiver wire in AL-only leagues.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 4/26, 3:56 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy wasn't great again on Sunday as his team lost to the Orioles. McCarthy went five innings and allowed four runs on nine hits with three walks and one strikeout. He did not factor into the decision.

Our View: McCarthy is still 2-0 despite an ERA of 5.32 on the year. His fantasy value is still there in AL-only leagues, but he is not the greatest option by any means.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 4/14, 1:23 PM CT
MLB.com is reporting that Brandon McCarthy has tweaked his mechanics slightly going into tonight's start against the Orioles.

Our View: He worked with pitching coach Mike Maddux on the mechanics of throwing his fastball, as he felt he relied too much on his slider in his first start. McCarthy is 1-0 on the season, but it would be a good idea to see if his fastball improves in his next few starts.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersWednesday 3/18, 6:25 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy earned his second win of the spring Wednesday with a four-inning, no-hit performance. He walked two and struck out three.

Our View: McCarthy has dazzled this spring and is looking more and more like he will crack the Rangers rotation. He has a 1.80 spring ERA, but that will change quickly when he moves to the bandbox in Texas.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 3/12, 11:08 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy was excellent against Seattle on Thursday, giving up just one hit and zero walks while striking out three in four innings.

Our View: McCarthy should be able to win out a spot at the end of Texas' starting rotation. While he's still a huge risk, he is a former highly-regarded prospect with nice potential that could be worth a look in the late rounds of AL-only leagues.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersWednesday 3/4, 11:44 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy will not make his scheduled start on Friday due to a sore shoulder reports MLBlogs. There is no current timetable for his return.

Our View: Competing for the fifth spot in the Rangers' rotation, a bum shoulder doesn't help McCarthy's chances. Even if he makes a smooth recovery he has little fantasy value.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersMonday 2/16, 2:15 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy is competing for the fifth spot in the Rangers' rotation, according to the Dallas Morning News. Manager Ron Washington believes the top four spots will be held by Kevin Millwood, Vincente Padilla, Scott Feldman and Matt Harrison.

Our View: McCarthy needs to prove he is healthy and can be reliable before the club annoints him the fifth starter. If he earns the spot, the former top prospect (with the White Sox) would be worth a look as a flier for AL-only leagues.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 1/15, 11:02 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy has avoided arbitration by signing a one-year deal with the Rangers worth $650,000, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: McCarthy was once regarded as a blue chip prospect with the White Sox, but failed to reach his potential so far while hindered by injuries. He ended the 2008 campaign with an encouraging 1.27 WHIP over 22 innings, and could be worth a look as a flier for AL-only leagues for 2009.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersMonday 9/22, 8:25 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy's 2008 season is over because of his injured finger, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View: McCarthy ends another disappointing campaign injured, his season being limited to just 22 innings. He remains a talented enigma, though one barely worthy of rostering even in AL-only leagues until he proves he can stay healthy.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersWednesday 9/17, 8:57 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy is scheduled for an MRI on his injured right middle finger today, according to the Dallas Morning News. McCarthy said, "The signs are pointing to it not being major. We'll know a lot more after the test. My hope is to get back out there. From what they've told me it might be a tolerance thing."

Our View: His next scheduled start would be Sunday against the AL West champion Angels. We will keep you posted on his status.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersMonday 9/15, 7:39 PM CT
It was a quick night Monday for Brandon McCarthy, who left his start versus the Tigers in the first inning with an injured middle finger on his pitching hand, according to the AP.

Our View: There is no other news on how serious the injury to the finger is.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 9/14, 10:53 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy is ready to go on Monday against the Tigers after seven days off, according to the Rangers Official Website. "We're trying to get me to be more efficient with my mechanics, and I want to use my last couple of starts to put it in motion."

Our View: McCarthy is making a mechanical adjustment with his hips which is designed to take pressure off his arm. Over four starts since returning from the injured list, McCarthy has a 4.22 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP, decent numbers for an end of the rotation starter if you can deal with the lack of strikeouts (4.22 K/9).
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersFriday 9/12, 8:37 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy will receive a few extra days rest as his scheduled start on Saturday has been changed to the follwing Tuesday according to MLB.com.

Our View: Unfortunately this means he will have to face Detroit rather than Oakland. In four starts this season, he is 1-1 with a 4.22 ERA.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 8/28, 11:55 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy, in his second appearance of the season, worked six innings as he held the Angles to just two runs (one earned) in a no-decision.

Our View: McCarthy still has plenty of time to establish himself as being a big part of the Rangers plans next season as he will use the rest of this season as a tryout to prove that he is over the injuries that have dogged him the past couple of seasons. He is a worthy pickup if you are searching for some help in the rotation.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 8/24, 12:22 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy lasted just four innings in his first start of the year Saturday, but he allowed just one run on three hits and four walks while striking out three.

Our View: It's not surprising that McCarthy's control was off. He should get better the next time out.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSaturday 8/23, 5:14 PM CT
As expected, the Rangers recalled Brandon McCarthy from Triple-A Oklahoma Saturday. He will start tonight against the Indians.

Our View: McCarthy held a 3.41 ERA and 28/9 K/BB ratio in seven starts while rehabbing from a forearm injury. He could eventually be worth a fantasy roster spot, but take a wait and see approach for now.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSaturday 8/23, 9:49 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy remains slated to start tonight against the Indians, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View: It will mark his first appearance of 2008 as he has been out all season while dealing with severe inflammation of the right forearm. He is worth holding in deeper AL-only leagues, but fantasy owners should wait to see how he performs in his first game back before penciling him into the lineup.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 8/19, 5:26 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy will come off the DL and start for the Rangers on Saturday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. The right-hander has been out all season due to inflammation in his right forearm. He has gone 1-1 with a 3.41 ERA over seven minor league rehab outings.

Our View: McCarty made his big league debut in 2005, and we have to remind ourselves that he is still only 25. We're not expecting much down the stretch, but it would be nice if he showed us some hope for 2009.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 8/19, 12:00 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy pitched seven innings of three-hit shutout ball for Triple-A Oklahoma on Sunday, stretching his rehab scoreless streak at 13 innings. Out all year with forearm inflammation, McCarthy could start for the Rangers on Friday, according to the AP.

Our View: Matt Harrison would be pushed back to Saturday if Brandon is ready to go Friday.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 8/17, 10:18 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy, who is recovering from severe inflammation in his right forearm, is set to make another rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma on Sunday, according to the Dallas Morning News. He only allowed one hit over six innings in his last outing.

Our View: If he pitches well Sunday, he could be considered an option for the Rangers' rotation, hence ranking him as a player to stash in deeper AL-only leagues.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersFriday 8/8, 10:05 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy, who is recovering from severe inflammation in his right forearm, believes he will return to the Rangers this season, possibily by September 1, according to the Star-Telegram. He was excited about the results of his pitching session Thursday, and noted that it was the best he has felt in more than two years. He said, "In my mind, my arm strength is there, and after this session, I felt like a major league pitcher. The last few years when I went out, there was more of a sense of dread. I’m naturally a cocky guy and the hitters had an advantage. Now, I think I’m back to where I need to be."

Our View: He could rank as a player to stash for deeper AL-only leagues, but there is still the possibility that the team will not bring him back this season with little to play for.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 8/3, 5:31 PM CT
After allowing six hits and five runs on Friday night at Triple-A Oklahoma, Brandon McCarthy still isn't ready to rejoin the Rangers, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I'm not going to put a number on it," manager Ron Washington said. "But he's going to stay in Triple-A...I don't know the time frame."

Our View: McCarthy has missed the entire season up until this point, and with little to play for the Rangers certainly won't push McCarthy back into action until they are completely sure that he is healthy.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 7/31, 6:59 PM CT
Rangers pitcher Brandon McCarthy will make a rehab start tomorrow and likely another one after that, and if all goes well, he could join the big league team, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: McCarthy has yet to pitch in the majors this season, but he is a candidate to go into the rotation as soon as he is deemed ready.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 7/13, 8:37 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy threw two innings, giving up a run on two hits along with two strikeouts in a rehab start in the Arizona Rookie League, according to the Dallas Morning News. His fastball was clocked at 86-90 MPH.

Our View: McCarthy has not thrown an inning in the bigs this year, and he was not all that effective last year, going 5-10. His fantasy value is extremely limited at this point.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSaturday 5/24, 7:13 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy has been cleared to start throwing again, according to MLB.com. The right-hander is out until the All-Star break because of severe inflammation in his right forearm.

Our View: We'll continue to monitor McCarthy's recovery.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSaturday 4/26, 8:40 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy has been shut down for another six weeks after aggravating the right forearm muscle that has kept him out of action since early March, according to the Star-Telegram. He said the soonest he could return would be around the All-Star break.

Our View: He was a bust with the White Sox, and isn't worth waiting for as a fantasy prospect with Texas.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersFriday 4/18, 9:31 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy has been cleared to step up his throwing program and could be on a mound in a little over a week, the Dallas Morning News reports. He is on the 60-day DL due to inflammation in his right forearm and won't be back until late May or early June.

Our View: Due to his 60-day status, the Rangers don't need to push McCarthy at this point, but it's good to know that things are progressing well.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 4/17, 8:42 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy, who is currently rehabbing his ailing forearm in Surprise, Ariz., will return to Arlington next week to be re-examined by team orthopedist Dr. Keith Meister, according to the Dallas News. If that exam goes favorably, McCarthy could be cleared to start throwing off a mound. He is on the 60-day DL, and not eligible to return until May 29.

Our View: McCarthy was a bust with the White Sox, and his fantasy stock won't move up until he proves to be effective in Texas.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 4/6, 8:18 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy has reportedly started a throwing program after more than two weeks of inactivity, according to the Dallas Morning News. McCarthy reported no problems, and remains out until at least May 29 due to his forearm inflammation.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 4/3, 8:58 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy is scheduled to resume throwing again on Friday in Arizona, according to the Dallas Morning News. McCarthy is currently on the 60-day DL with forearm irritation, and isn't eligible to return until May 29.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/30, 3:34 PM CT
The injury bug continues to bite Brandon McCarthy, who the Rangers placed on the 60-day disabled list Sunday, retroactive to March 21. The right-hander isn't expected to be available until sometime in May or June. And even then he has zero fantasy value in traditional formats.

Our View:
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 3/11, 12:23 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy did not go to Dallas as scheduled for treatment on his strained right forearm, according to Dallas News. Dr. Keith Meister wanted to see another MRI from a different angle, which McCarthy got late Monday afternoon in Arizona. Before having the second MRI, McCarthy stated that Meister thought there was no ligament damage, but he wanted a clearer view of the area before determining treatment options.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/9, 2:07 PM CT
An MRI on Brandon McCarthy revealed that he has severe inflammation in his forearm that will cost him at least the next 4-6 weeks, according to MLB.com. That means he won't be ready for the start of the regular season. Rookie Luis Mendoza should have the inside track to replace McCarthy in the rotation, but fellow rookie Eric Hurley and Sunday signee Sidney Ponson will figure into the competition.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/9, 9:46 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy underwent an MRI late Saturday on the stiff forearm that has bothered him for several weeks, according to the Dallas Morning News. Even if the results, which are due to be released on Sunday, are negative, it appears unlikely that he'll be ready for the start of the regular season.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersFriday 3/7, 8:42 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy won't be ready for the start of the Rangers regular season, at least it's looking that way, according to MLB.com. The possibility of Luis Mendoza being called up to replace McCarthy is becoming likely. McCarthy, who was making his first Cactus League appearance of the spring, had to cut short his outing against the Brewers on Friday with more pain in his right elbow/forearm area. McCarthy was supposed to go two innings and 30 pitches, but was pulled after one inning and 19 pitches. The coaching staff pulled the right-hander when McCarthy experienced pain in his elbow. "It happened on the third curve ball I tried to throw," McCarthy said. "I felt good out there. My fastball was alive and my curve ball was good. Everything felt good mechanically and it just flared up on me." McCarthy has been bothered by pain and inflammation in the elbow/forearm area for the past three weeks and will be shut down and likely placed on the disabled list to begin the season.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 3/2, 6:10 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy threw for 10 minutes off a bullpen mound Sunday and had no problems with his tender elbow. He will throw another bullpen session this week before pitching in a game, perhaps as soon as Friday. “I want him to have another good bullpen, crank up the intensity on the breaking ball a little bit and his changeup,” pitching coach Mark Connor said in the AP. “He threw all of his pitches today, and I was happy with the result.” The Rangers have held McCarthy back as a precaution but keep tabs on him to make sure he doesn't suffer any setbacks.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersFriday 2/29, 9:45 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy, suffering from a sore elbow, threw off a mound during a morning workout Friday, according to the AP. Pitching coach Mark Connor said McCarthy would likely throw again Sunday. The Rangers will take it slow with McCarthy, but at this point the elbow injury doesn't appear to be anything serious.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 2/26, 12:05 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy told the Rangers training staff his was experiencing elbow soreness Tuesday morning. The team is being cautious with their right-hander and have canceled his scheduled start for Wednesday's spring training exhibition opener. According to the Dallas News, Rangers manager Ron Washington said McCarthy was held out as a precaution and that he could have pitched if he had to.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersFriday 2/15, 1:01 AM CT
Pitching coach, Mark Connor, told the Rangers official team website on Thursday, that pitcher Brandon McCarthy has "...put on weight and strength. All the things we asked him to do this winter he appears to have done." McCarthy is slated to be the team's fourth starter behind right-handers Kevin Millwood, Vincent Padilla and Jason Jennings.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersSunday 2/10, 11:15 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy battled injures, which limited him to just 101.2 IP, and ineffectiveness, including a 4.87 ERA and 1.56 WHIP, in 2007. In order to combat this he has added about 15 pounds to his slender 6'7" frame while deciding to use his curveball as more of a complementary pitch in 2008. McCarthy had a stellar minor league career built largely on an ability to control the strikezone, a skill that eluded him last year with a pitiful 1.23 K/BB ratio. If he can command his pitches there is no reason to think that he cant be a solid or pitchers on most fantasy staffs. Dallas Morning News
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersTuesday 9/25, 11:57 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy will not make his start tonight against the Angels due to lingering soreness in his right forearm, according to the Dallas Morning News. It's still possible that McCarthy will be able to make one last start this season, although his status won't be known until later in the week. Jamey Wright is expected to get the nod in McCarthy's absence.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersFriday 9/14, 2:41 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy will start at Oakland Saturday and be on a pitch count of 50-55, the AP reports. He threw a simulated game Thursday, and the club didn't report any problems with his shoulder.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersThursday 9/13, 12:07 PM CT
Brandon McCarthy felt fine after his 35-pitch start on Tuesday, according to the Dallas Morning News. He'll throw a simulated game today, and barring any setbacks, he'll make his next start on Saturday. His pitch count on Saturday will be held to about 65 pitches, so there's really no reason to put him in your lineup, because it's unlikely he'll pitch long enough to get a win.
Brandon McCarthy, P, Texas RangersWednesday 9/12, 1:54 AM CT
Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) came off the disabled list Tuesday and started at Detroit, though he was not effective. McCarthy didn't get out of the first inning, allowing three runs.

However, he is not an option to start for the Rangers on Sunday, the next time the team needs a fifth starter, according to the Dallas Morning News. Manager Ron Washington said the club wants McCarthy to get two rehab starts to make sure the callous on his finger can handle the workload. The righty will pitch Friday for Double-A Frisco.

Brandon McCarthy is still scheduled to make his next start Wednesday despite leaving Friday night's turn after two innings due to a recurring blister on his right middle finger, the AP reports. McCarthy's availability will be determined in a bullpen session on Monday in Oakland. McCarthy has been putting ointment on the finger to toughen the skin, but the blister reopened on the humid night that included a rain delay of almost two hours. McCarthy issued four walks and gave up four runs in the abbreviated stint, blaming the blister for his control problems.

"It's never easy to deal young players you're fond of, but Brandon's age, makeup, and ability is a rare combination we could not pass on." McCarthy, who held a 4.68 ER in 53 games (two starts) with Chicago in 2006, joins Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla and Robinson Tejeda in the Texas rotation. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Brandon McCarthy would start the 2007 season in Triple-A if the White Sox don't deal one of their starters this offseason. "One year of the bullpen, that gives you one year of a teaching tool, a little bit of something you can grow and hang your hat on," GM Ken Williams said. "Two years, now I'm affecting whether or not [McCarthy] will be an effective starter, and that's two years of not using his entire repertoire and keeping the strength and stamina and the core built up to where he's an effective starter. It's not fair to him."

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said he has no plans to put Brandon McCarthy in the rotation, even though his current starters have been underachieving, according to the Daily Southtown. "I don't think McCarthy has the stuff and experience right now," Guillen said. "Those guys (the five starters) are better pitchers than McCarthy right now ... Everyone sees McCarthy, we have a good pitcher. Are we building him for the future and putting him in spots to have success and taking care of him? Yes. I won't start McCarthy in front of those guys yet. In the future? Yes. But right now? No, I don't think he should."
