Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 10/4, 3:47 PM CT
Homer Bailey picked up his eighth win of the season on Sunday as the Reds blanked the Pirates 6-0. Bailey went six scoreless innings and allowed seven hits while walking three and striking out seven.

Our View: Bailey has put it together as of late, and he is finally starting to live up to the hype that has followed him for years. He might not be the team's ace, but he looks like he will have a slot in the rotation next season.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 9/29, 9:07 PM CT
Homer Bailey dominated the Cardinals on Tuesday night, holding the NL Central winners to just one run on seven hits and a walk over seven innings. He fanned seven as well and improved to 7-5 on the season after the 7-2 win.

Our View: Bailey has has trouble with the Cards this season, but worked through his issues with ease on Tuesday. Prior to the start he was 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in two outings.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/23, 9:24 PM CT
Homer Bailey pitched six innings of two-run ball on Wednesday, picking up his sixth win as Cincinnati won 12-2 in Pittsburgh.

Our View: Bailey has shown remarkable progression in his pitching since mid-August, and finally looks like the pitcher the Reds always thought he could be. He is a lock for the team's 2010 rotation.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 9/18, 9:35 PM CT
Homer Bailey only surrendered three hits over seven scoreless innings in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins at the Great American Ballpark. He had two walks and fired eight strikeouts.

Our View: Bailey had a great performance tonight, and it is a shame he was handed a no-decision due to poor run support. He allowed one or less earned runs in four of his last six starts.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 9/13, 5:33 PM CT
Homer Bailey allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks in 5.1 innings on Sunday. He took the loss as the Reds fell to the Cubs 5-2.

Our View: On the bright side, Bailey fanned six in his 5.1 innings of work on Sunday. He's actually been good in his last five starts overall, but is still a risky fantasy play.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 9/7, 6:13 PM CT
Homer Bailey only surrendered one earned run on five hits over 5.2 innings in Monday's 4-3 loss at Colorado. He issued five walks with six strikeouts.

Our View: It was a solid performance for Bailey other than the five free passes. He lowered his ERA to 5.60, and has not taken a loss over his last five starts.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 9/2, 2:23 PM CT
Homer Bailey needed 116 pitches to get through 6.1 innings on Wednesday, but allowed just three runs while striking out eight, as the Reds completed a four-game sweep of the Pirates at home, winning 5-3.

Our View: He has now walked just four batters in his past 14.1 innings, while allowing only four runs in his past 21.1. After struggling through the first 27 starts of his career, Bailey is finally starting to deliver on some of his infinite promise, and will almost assuredly be a part of the Reds rotation in 2010.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 8/28, 9:15 PM CT
Homer Bailey had the best outing of his three-year career on Friday, striking out seven Dodgers in eight scoreless innings, as the Reds won 4-2 at home.

Our View: The start was Bailey's first scoreless outing in 29 major league appearances. He's still far too inconsistent to consider owning in all but the deepest of NL-only leagues.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/23, 5:49 PM CT
Homer Bailey only allowed one earned run on four hits over seven innings in Sunday's 4-1 win at Pittsburgh. He issued four walks with four strikeouts.

Our View: Bailey had a solid outing other than the four free passes, and improved his record to 3-4. He allowed five earned runs in three of his previous four starts this month, and is just worth a look in deeper leagues for his next battle from the bump.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 8/18, 11:00 PM CT
Homer Bailey allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.2 innings Tuesday. He fanned four and did not receive a decision in the Reds' 8-5 loss to the Giants.

Our View: Bailey has been miserable all season (just three quality starts) and should be avoided in all fantasy formats.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/12, 8:45 PM CT
X-rays were negative on Homer Bailey's left foot after it was hit by an Albert Pujols line drive on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

Our View: The foot is just said to be bruised, and Bailey is set to be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/12, 7:39 PM CT
Homer Bailey left his start on Tuesday in the first inning with zero outs after getting hit in the leg by an Albert Pujols line drive.

Our View: He walked off the field without a noticeable limp, so the move is likely mostly precautionary. Stay tuned.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 8/1, 9:24 PM CT
Homer Bailey was tagged for five earned runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Rockies at the Great American Ballpark. He had two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Bailey allowed five or more earned runs in three of his last four starts, and is only an option for deeper fantasy leagues.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 7/27, 9:02 PM CT
Homer Bailey gave up three earned runs on six hits over 7.1 innings in Monday's 6-4 win over the Padres at the Great American Ballpark. He had one walk and four strikeouts, and was tagged for two homers.

Our View: Bailey did not have a strong outing, but the Reds provided enough run support for him to even his record to 2-2. Bailey surrendered 13 earned runs over his previous two starts, and should remain an unstable fantasy hurler.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/22, 12:17 AM CT
It's back to the drawing board for Homer Bailey. After three straight solid starts, where it appeared the young righty had finally learned how to pitch at the major league level, he got destroyed for the second time in a row on Tuesday night, giving up nine runs in just 2.2 innings of work in a 12-3 loss in Los Angeles.

Our View: If you picked him up during his mini-renaissance, you would be well off to jettison him as quickly as possible. With Bailey, it usually gets worse before it gets better.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/16, 9:54 PM CT
Homer Bailey was lit up for seven earned runs on six hits over 5.1 innings in Thursday's 9-6 loss to the Brewers at the Great American Ballpark. He issued four walks with three strikeouts.

Our View: Bailey suffered his first loss of the season, and is winless over his last three starts. He has issued four or more walks in three of his five outings.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 7/8, 9:45 PM CT
Homer Bailey was sharp again on Wednesday, allowing only two earned runs in six innings while striking out six, but took a no-decision as the Reds lost 3-2 to the Phillies.

Our View: Bailey has at least temporarily moved beyond the control problems that have plagued his big league career, and has pitched wonderfully of late. He is worth a flier if you need pitching help.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 7/3, 11:02 PM CT
Homer Bailey had a brilliant outing on Friday night, holding the Cardinals to just two runs on three hits and two walks over 7.1 innings. He did not factor in the decision though as the Reds eventually fell 7-4.

Our View: Bailey allowed a hit to the first batter of the game and didn't allow another until there were two outs in the seventh inning. This was the most dominant he's been all season, and the two runs he was charged with were coughed up by the bullpen.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 6/27, 10:35 PM CT
Homer Bailey picked up the win over Cleveland on Saturday, giving up three runs despite issuing seven walks and another three hits with two strikeouts.

Our View: The Reds were able to give Bailey some wiggle room after scoring four runs in the second inning, but he's now issued 13 walks in two starts this season. Lack of control to that level is simply atrocious and he cannot be trusted from a fantasy perspective until he figures out how to throw strikes.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 6/25, 6:01 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Homer Bailey will make his second start of the season this Saturday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Bailey was not good in his first start, surrendering six earned runs in 4.1 innings, and has a career 7.01 ERA. He has been pitching phenomenally at Triple-A Louisville, though, going 4-0 with a 0.46 ERA in his last five starts. He could be a decent spot starting option this weekend.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/24, 8:58 AM CT
Homer Bailey could start for the Reds this Saturday against Cleveland, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: Bailey is currently in Triple-A Louisville, and has a very checkered MLB past. In 18 career starts, he has an abysmal 7.01 ERA in 86 innings. However, he has been on a tear at Louisville since learning to throw a splitter, going 4-0 with a 0.46 ERA in his last five starts. He's walked seven and struck out 38 in 38.1 innings. It would probably be unwise to start him this weekend given his lack of big league success to this point, but if he looks as if he is starting to get the hang of things, you may want to pounce and add him to your roster.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 5/24, 11:59 AM CT
Homer Bailey has been optioned back to Triple-A Louisville, according to ESPN.com. He will be replaced on the roster by Wilkin Castillo.

Our View: Bailey was not good in his one start with the Reds this season, so they sent him back down. Anyone who took a chance on him can feel free to get rid of him now, because it doesn't look like he will be back up anytime soon.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 5/23, 11:48 PM CT
Homer Bailey struggled with his control in his first start of the year on Saturday, giving up six runs off six walks and three hits with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings against the Indians.

Our View: Bailey is worth owning in NL-only or deeper mixed leagues but should not be relied upon in your lineup until he can string together two or three fine outings.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 5/21, 4:52 PM CT
According to MLBlogs.com, the Reds have recalled pitcher Homer Bailey from Triple-A.

Our View: Bailey was brought up to replace Edinson Volquez who landed on the DL with back spasms. He will start on Saturday against the Indians. Bailey has been very good in the minors this season. Owners should wait and see if that translates to the big leagues though before banking on him.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/28, 12:03 PM CT
Homer Bailey has been named the International League Pitcher of the Week, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He earned the honor by going 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA and 15 strikeouts over two starts with Triple-A Louisville. Reds' manager Dusty Baker said, "I told him, 'Go down and win seven in a row."

Our View: Bailey will have a chance to return to the Reds if he continues to pitch well in the minors, which Baker hinted at. He could pitch in their rotation if any of their starters suffers an injury or struggles.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsTuesday 4/14, 8:20 PM CT
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Homer Bailey was ejected in the third inning of his Triple-A start for plunking a batter the at-bat after he allowed a home run.

Our View: Bailey had a great spring with the Reds, but failed to make the rotation. Perhaps the demotion got in his head because he's struggled thus far in the Triple-A regular season. Still, he'll likely get a shot at joining the big club at some point this season. Especially if someone in the current rotation struggles mightily or goes down with injury.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 4/5, 2:46 PM CT
Cincinnati optioned Homer Bailey to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, according to USA Today.

Our View: While some scouts may have prematurely expected Bailey to have seen success in 2007 or 2008, he's still a mere 22 years old. He pitched well enough to win the No. 5 spot in Cincinnati's starting rotation, posting a 2.62 ERA with 20 strikeouts and just three walks in 20.2 innings this spring, but unfortunately for him, Micah Owings did not falter enough to lose it. Bailey will start the year off in the minors, though you can be sure he'll get a chance to start for the Reds at some point this year, likely at the first sign of injury or struggle from any of the five current starters.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/1, 2:50 PM CT
Homer Bailey struck out eight batters in six innings as the Reds lost to Houston 7-2 on Wednesday. He allowed four hits, a walk, and two earned runs in the outing. His spring ERA now stands at 2.61.

Our View: Four of Bailey's six appearances this spring have come as a starter, giving the indication that he could land in the rotation. He has been one of the better pitchers for the team this spring as he has recorded 20 strikeouts against just four walks in 20.2 innings of work. Still, we caution you to get overly optimistic about the former top prospect. His past results in the major leagues have been devastating.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 3/18, 9:55 AM CT
Skipper Dusty Baker noted that he is considering using Homer Bailey as a reliever out of the pen this season, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: He has been competing with Nick Masset and Micah Owings for the fifth spot in the rotation, but this news that he may move to the pen does lower his fantasy stock a bit.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 3/9, 10:51 AM CT
Manager Dusty Baker commented on Homer Bailey after the young hurler only allowed one run over four innings in his outing against the Blue Jays Saturday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Baker said, "He wasn't as sharp. That is a sign of maturity when you can get by without your best stuff. He got a key ground ball for a double play and a key line drive at the right time. You have got to have a pitch or something to get you out of trouble. I would not mind 1-2-3, 1-2-3. Confidence-wise I would not mind. I would not mind a guy going through spring training without giving up anything. But it is not very likely."

Our View: Bailey would be worth a look as a flier for deeper leagues if he earns a spot in the Reds' rotation out of spring training, based on his talent and potential.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 3/7, 4:04 PM CT
Homer Bailey scattered six hits in four innings as the Reds fell 7-2 to Toronto on Saturday. He gave up just one run, walked none, and struck out one.

Our View: This was his third appearance this spring, and just the first run that he has surrendered. Altogether, he's looked pretty good. But that's exactly Bailey's motif. He always gives off some indcators that make him look like he's due for a breakout. Well, try these indicators. With two strikes on a batter, NL hitters tagged him for .391/.421/.638. In 36.1 innings last season with the Reds, he served up eight home runs while compiling a 7.93 ERA and 2.09 WHIP. Bailey throws hard fastballs and harder ones. He will continue to disappoint until he develops the rest of his repertoire into plus-pitches. He's only 23 so there's still time, but don't get sucked in by a nice spring.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 3/2, 3:46 PM CT
Fallen prospect Homer Bailey looked sharp in Monday's exhibition game against the Pirates. He tossed three innings of one-hit ball and struck out four while only walking one in an eventual 2-1 loss.

Our View: A strong spring could catapult Bailey into the fifth spot in the Reds' rotation. Beware though as he has failed to figure out how to consistenlty retire Major League hitters.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 1/18, 8:55 PM CT
The Reds hope to solidify their starting rotation by settling on who will become their fifth starter, according to MLB.com. Some names that we be considered for the role include Homer Bailey, Micah Owings, Matt Maloney and Ramon Ramirez.

Our View: While Bailey has the pedigree, he has failed to impress anyone since being drafted in the first round as his offspeed pitches have never cone around. At this point, we would have to think that, if healthy, Owings would be in the lead for the starting role.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 12/8, 7:54 AM CT
Reds' GM Walt Jocketty denies the rumor that he is dealing pitching prospect Homer Bailey to the White Sox for outfielder Jermaine Dye, according to MLB.com. Jocketty said, "Wrong. It's not even close. We haven't had any discussions with the White Sox since before Thanksgiving."

Our View: If the rumor was true, the Reds would have filled a void in their outfield with a former World Series MVP, while unloading a pitcher that was a grave disappointment with a 2.09 WHIP over eight starts in 2008.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 12/7, 9:53 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that the White Sox and Reds have been discussing a swap of Homer Bailey for Jermaine Dye.

Our View: The Sox may be seeking more prospects besides Bailey, who was 0-6 with a 7.93 ERA in eight starts and was 4-7 with a 4.77 ERA at Triple-A Louisville. His 95 mph fastball has loads of potential but he has yet to come through on any of that.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 10/27, 4:24 PM CT
Reds beat writer Mark Sheldon believes that Homer Bailey is "in the mix" for the fifth starters role with the Reds in 2009, according to the Reds Official Website.

Our View: Bailey, who has one of the best names in baseball, has been beaten around continually as a Reds starter with a 6.72 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP over 17 starts the past two years. The teams 2004 first round pick, Bailey must learn to use his off-speed stuff more effectively if he is ever to reach the heights once predicted for him.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 8/25, 3:19 PM CT
Homer Bailey will miss his next start at Triple-A Louisville due to a a mild sprain of the MCL of his right knee, according to Reds.com.

Our View: He will be reevaluated by team physician Dr. Timothy Kremchek before the end of the week. Bailey holds no fantasy value as he went 0-6 over eight starts with the Reds this season, with a dismal 7.93 ERA and 2.09 WHIP.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 8/10, 11:01 AM CT
Homer Bailey has been sent down to Triple-A Louisville, according to the AP. Aaron Harang has been activated from the DL as the corresponding move.

Our View: Bailey has a future with the Reds, but the 22-year-old clearly proved he is not yet ready to make an impact as he went winless over eight starts, with a 7.93 ERA and 2.09 WHIP.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 8/6, 2:46 PM CT
Homer Bailey was rocked for six earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Brewers at home, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Bailey remains winless at 0-6, and his ERA climbs higher to 7.93. The 22-year-old clearly is not ready for the majors.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 8/1, 9:28 PM CT
Homer Bailey allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk as he was only able to record six outings on Friday night in his fifth loss of the season.

Our View: Bailey simply cannot put it together at this level, and whispers of him being a potential AAAA player are growing (too good for minors, not good enough for the majors). Still, he is only 22 years old, so he has plenty of time to figure things out.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 7/26, 10:15 PM CT
Somehow, Homer Bailey only gave up five runs, four of them being earned, in 4.2 innings, because he allowed a ridiculous 15 hits during that time. For the record, he only got 14 outs.

Our View: Another hideous performance from the one-time uber-prospect.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 7/13, 5:15 PM CT
Homer Bailey, called up to replace the injured Aaron Harang, allowed two runs on five hits, walked none and struck out four over 5.2 innings of work on Sunday afternoon

Our View: The mistake Bailey made was to opposing pitcher C.C. Sabathia, an 0-2 pitch in the third that cleared the wall. Bailey left with a runner at first and 2-1 lead in the sixth, but the bullpen let him down.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/10, 2:26 PM CT
Updating an earlier story, Homer Bailey will be recalled and get the start for Cincinnati on Sunday against Milwaukee, according to Reds.com.

Our View: Bailey has been bad this season, even in the minors where he is 4-7 with a 4.42 ERA, and fantasy owners should hold off on adding him to their squads until he proves that his work on the hill will match his level of talent.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 7/10, 8:52 AM CT
Homer Bailey may get the nod to start Sunday, in place of Aaron Harang, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. The other candidate is Daryl Thompson, but he Thompson threw 103 pitches on Tuesday, compared to Bailey's 82 on Monday.

Our View: Bailey has not yet delivered on the promise he clearly holds. In his three starts this year, he has pitched only 12.1 innings, and has an ugly 8.76 ERA, so fantasy owners should wait and see if he can turn things around before acquiring him.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/18, 6:30 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Cincinnati Reds have sent RHP Homer Bailey back to the minors, optioning the struggling hurler to Triple-A Louisville, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The 22-year-old Bailey knew he was likely to be optioned after he gave up five runs in only 2 1/3 innings of a 9-0 loss to Boston on Sunday. In three starts this season, Bailey went 0-3 with an 8.76 ERA. To fill his roster spot, the Reds have activated outfielder Norris Hopper who has been sidelined since April 23rd with an irritated nerve in his right elbow.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 6/18, 9:46 AM CT
Homer Bailey remains listed as the starter for Saturday's game in New York against the Yankees, but the team could turn to veteran Josh Fogg or youngster Daryl Thompson. "We don't know yet," manager Dusty Baker informs the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: Bailey, an elite prospect, was supposed to take the majors by storm, but he struggled in 2007 (5.76 ERA) and has been awful this year (8.76 ERA). We have to remind ourselves that he only turned 22 a month ago. He clearly has stuff to work on.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 6/16, 12:36 PM CT
After scuffling in his third start since being called up from Triple-A Louisville, it appears Homer Bailey could be headed back after suffering a 9-0 loss to the Red Sox on Sunday, this according to the team website. Bailey was the victim of a red-hot Red Sox lineup, lasting just 2 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on four hits with three walks and no strikeouts.

Our View: If Bailey is demoted to Louisville, Daryl Thompson, who pitched 8 2/3 innings and gave up just one run for Louisville on Saturday is expected to get a shot at the No. 5 slot in the Reds rotation.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSunday 6/15, 3:55 PM CT
The Red Sox hit four homers off Homer Bailey and routed the Cincinnati Reds 9-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Reds have lost each of Bailey's three starts this season who allowed five runs on four hits and lasted only 2.1 innings in the loss.

Our View: With Bailey's three walks in the game he's now allowed 10 free passes in 12.1 innings since being called up.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 6/5, 2:45 PM CT
Homer Bailey surrendered five runs on four hits over 6.1 innings, and was dealt a loss in his first start of 2008 on Thursday, as Cincinnati fell to the Phillies 5-0. Bailey issued four walks with one strikeout.

Our View: As previously reported, he still needs to work out his control issues, evidenced by his four walks today. In his defense, that was a tough first start against a strong Phillies' order.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 6/5, 12:16 PM CT
Homer Bailey was recalled from Triple-A Louisville, and made his first start of the season Thursday against the Phillies, according to MLB.com. To make room on the roster, the team optioned Daniel Herrera to Louisville.

Our View: He takes the fifth rotation spot in place of Josh Fogg, who landed on the DL Sunday due to back spasms. The 22-year old Bailey has a bright future ahead of him, but still needs to work on his control, and is a risky fantasy option in his first start of the season against an imposing Phillies' batting order.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 6/2, 7:43 AM CT
Homer Bailey was pulled in his last start for Louisville (in the third inning Sunday) so he can begin his 2008 big league tour for the Reds on Thursday. Bailey will replace Josh Fogg in the rotation, this according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I didn't see (Justin) Mallet warming up, I didn't see anything and (Bats manager Rick Sweet) starts walking out there - I was actually a little mad," Bailey said. "... He said, 'Don't worry about it, you're throwing Thursday in Philadelphia.' "

Our View: Bailey allowed two runs in 2.2 innings Sunday night. Overall he went 4-4 with a 4.15 ERA in 12 games. He becomes an NL-only option and mix-league bench fodder until he proves he belongs.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 5/23, 12:47 PM CT
Homer Bailey had another rough outing for Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. He allowed six hits and five runs over five innings. Bailey also walked five batters. The prized prospect is 0-2 with a 8.02 ERA, 2.06 WHIP, and .322 BAA over four starts in May.

Our View: Anyone waiting for Homer to rush up and kick Johnny Cueto to the minors shouldn't hold their breath. Bailey has struggled with his control, and the ugly numbers posted above are obvious.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 5/7, 11:06 AM CT
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that right-hander Homer Bailey (4-3) started for Louisville in Monday's 4-1 loss to Norfolk and gave up four runs on seven hits in seven innings (three walks, seven strikeouts). He leads the International League with 46.1 innings pitched.

Our View: Bailey will return to the Reds rotation this year as the fifth starter. When that will happen isn't yet clear.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsMonday 4/28, 5:05 PM CT
Despite recent reports by MLB.com, Homer Bailey is on his way back to the parent club. The right-handed prospect is compiling a stellar minor league season at 3-1 with a 1.03 ERA to go along with a 4-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Our View: Matt Belisle doesn't have the makeup as a flyball pitcher to succeed in Great American and Baker has been patient with Arroyo expressing confidence in his No. 2 starter. Strangely, he's done the same with Josh Fogg. Both Arroyo and Fogg have done little more than toss batting practice to opposing hitters, combining for a 1-5 record and a near 9.00 ERA. Arroyo's going to have to completely melt down before he's replaced in the rotation, but Fogg and Belisle are fills until Bailey arrives.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsThursday 4/24, 5:24 PM CT
Homer Bailey will not be rushed to the majors before the Reds feel he is ready to contribute and stick with the club, this according to MLB.com. "It's very tempting to think only of today vs. thinking what's right for them and us in the long run, for years to come," manager Dusty Baker said in referring to Bailey and uber-outfield prospect Jay Bruce.

Our View: With Bronson Arroyo pitching like a batting practice machine, the team could understandably be tempted to call up Bailey who is 3-1 with a 1.03 ERA in four minor league starts. Bailey will certainly be up at some point, and this patience will likely benefit him in the long run.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsSaturday 4/19, 11:59 PM CT
Homer Bailey threw 7.1 scoreless innings on Saturday to improve his record to 3-1. He allowed five hits, one walk and struck out three batters.

Our View: Bailey’s strikeout rate is not great, but his control has significantly improved upon last season when he was pitching for Louisville. He has allowed only four walks in 26.1 innings. With Josh Fogg struggling at the end of the Cincy rotation and Matt Belisle being no guarantee to hold down the fort, Bailey’s next chance in the majors could come soon.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 4/18, 4:59 PM CT
Homer Bailey has had a good couple of outings in the minors, and though Josh Fogg appears on his way out of the Reds rotations, it appears that Matt Belisle, and not Bailey, will be replacing Fogg in the rotation, this according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "He pitched seven innings the night I saw. He went over 100 pitches. He threw all his pitches, threw them for strikes, got ahead of the hitters," GM Wayne Krivsky said. "He had a good outing."

Our View: Bailey should still be on everyone's radar, especially those of you in keeper league's, but he still needs to hone his control before he will be ready to contribute at the big league level.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 4/9, 2:08 PM CT
Homer Bailey picked up his first win of the year after throwing 5.2 scoreless innings and fanning seven hitters. Bailey was seen as the next great pitcher in Cincinnati before Johnny Cueto’s arrival, and his stock could rise again if he continues to perform this well.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsFriday 4/4, 7:52 AM CT
Homer Bailey took a loss in his first Triple-A outing on Thursday, but you can't fault him much. He held Syracuse to five hits and one run over seven innings. Bailey's only flaw was a solo homer given up to Adam Lind. He walked one and struck out two.
Homer Bailey, P, Cincinnati RedsWednesday 3/26, 2:55 PM CT
The Reds optioned Homer Bailey to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday. The 21-year-old prospect was hoping to earn a spot in the rotation but will hone his craft in the minors, at least to open the year. We still like Homer in keeper leagues, but it doesn't look like he's quite ready to help fantasy teams.

He gets better every time out. That’s what you want to see, the progression.” Bailey, who has one of the top arms in baseball, will more than likely start the year in the team's rotation. The hope is that Dusty Baker won't overwork Bailey as he did with Mark Prior however.
