George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 1/19, 11:16 AM CT
The Dodgers and George Sherrill have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.5 million deal, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View: Sherrill provides a nice left-handed option out of the bullpen who will continue to setup closer Jonathan Broxton. He also brings closing experience should anything happen to Broxton.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 12/7, 7:26 PM CT
Despite rumors to the contrary, left-handed reliever George Sherrill is not on the trading block, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Sherrill was lights out for Los Angeles after coming over in a deadline deal from the Orioles, posting a microscopic 0.65 ERA in 27.2 innings. He faltered in the playoffs, however, likely leading to the speculation that he was available.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/22, 6:29 PM CT
George Sherrill picked up his first save as a Dodger on Saturday as the team beat the Cubs 2-0. Sherrill allowed two baserunners in the ninth, but did not allow a run while striking out two.

Our View: Sherrill has been outstanding since joining the club, and he got his first save opportunity today, with closer Jonathan Broxton pitching the eighth inning. With these two guys at the back end of the bullpen, the Dodgers should feel very comfortable late in games. It looks like Broxton is still the closer, but Sherrill could get some periodic save opportunities and should pile up the holds.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/12, 6:28 PM CT
Pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth inning on Wednesday helped George Sherrill keep his Dodger ERA at 0.00 through 7.1 innings, but Los Angeles would still go on to lose 4-2 in ten innings.

Our View: Sherrill has been everything the Dodgers hoped he would be since coming to Hollywood, and he figures to rack up a lot of holds down the stretch setting up Jonathan Broxton.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/30, 3:13 PM CT
The Dodgers have officially acquired Orioles closer George Sherrill, according to MLBlogs.

Our View: They Dodgers gave up pitching prospect Steve Johnson (and not Scott Elbert as originally reported) and slugging minor league third baseman Josh Bell. Sherrill's arrival shores up one of the Dodgers' biggest concerns, and will provide an excellent setup option for Jonathan Broxton. He could even spell the Dodgers' burly closer on some days as he battles a chronic toe injury. As for the Orioles, Jim Johnson is the most likely candidate to talk over closing duties, but Danys Baez could be in the mix, as well.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/30, 2:02 PM CT
According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, Orioles closer George Sherrill has been traded to the Dodgers.

Our View: If true, the lefty throwing Sherrill would give the Dodgers' worn down bullpen a big boost, and provide a legitimate setup option for closer Jonathan Broxton. In exchange for their closer, the Orioles are rumored to be getting top pitching prospect Scott Elbert and third baseman Josh Bell. The O's will likely give Elbert a chance to start, but if he fails there, he could still be a very good setup guy.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/29, 7:25 PM CT
The White Sox are the latest team to garner interest in George Sherrill, according to FOX Sports.

Our View: Chicago is interested, but it is uncertain if they had serious discussions with Baltimore regarding a potential trade. The Orioles would like to acquire a third baseman in exchange for Sherrill, and the Sox have enough infield depth to make a deal. Josh Fields could be offered in a proposal.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 7/27, 7:10 PM CT
The Dodgers are "in hard" regarding George Sherrill, according to Ed Price's twitter page.

Our View: The Dodgers covet an upgrade for their bullpen, and would love to acquire Sherrill in a trade from Baltimore. The Orioles have been looking at Scott Elbert as a potential piece in a trade with Los Angeles.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/24, 5:30 PM CT
The Angels are high on the list among the teams interested in acquiring George Sherrill from Baltimore, according to TheOrioleReport.com.

Our View: Sherrill's trade value is very high, and the source believes the Orioles can acquire a future starting third baseman and a solid pitching prospect in a deal. Jim Johnson can take over the closer's role if Sherrill gets traded.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/19, 10:44 PM CT
According to FoxSports.com, a trade of George Sherrill by the Baltimore Orioles is not imminent. The team is taking the approach that they don't need to move Sherrill, so they will wait for a good offer.

Our View: The O's aren't going to move Sherrill just for the sake of moving him, and the team knows that he is the best closing candidate currently on the market. Don't expect anything to happen with Sherrill until close to the deadline unless they are overwhelmed by a trade offer.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/19, 12:03 PM CT
The Angels are the latest team to express interest in Orioles closer George Sherrill, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: Outside of Brian Fuentes, the Angels' bullpen has been shaky at beast. The Orioles are asking for two top prospects in return. After a very slow start to the season, Sherrill has converted 20 of 23 save opportunities, and posted a very good 2.35 ERA. He would be a great addition to the Halos pen.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/16, 8:02 AM CT
According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Dodgers are interested in Orioles' closer George Sherrill. GM Ned Colletti has identified set-up relief as a major need for the team, and many people within the organization feel Sherrill is one of the top options on the market.

Our View: Sherrill has been a solid back-end bullpen guy for the Orioles for a couple of seasons now, and with the team struggling it looks like he could be available. With closer Jonathan Broxton still ailing, Sherrill would be a nice insurance policy should Broxton's health not hold up. Sherrill's fantasy value would take a hit if he were to be traded, however.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/15, 7:13 PM CT
The Orioles are looking to deal prior to the July 31 trade deadline, and George Sherrill has been among their most popular targets, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Sherrill is under contract with Baltimore for two more years. The Orioles would ask for a hurler with closer potential in return for Sherrill.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/1, 11:36 PM CT
The Orioles may not deal George Sherrill, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View: The Orioles are in last place in the AL East at 35-42, but may not want to deal their closer - even though the 32-year-old could be used to help the team fill another need. The O's lack a long-term starter at shortstop and third base, and are believed to be interested in Marlins' rookie Chris Coghlan. There is belief that Florida is not interested in letting Coghlan go for Sherrill though.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 6/27, 9:41 PM CT
George Sherrill picked up his 16th save of the season against Washington on Saturday, pitching a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout.

Our View: Sherrill has given up just one run over his past 20 appearances, all one inning long, and looks quite secure in Baltimore's closing role at the moment.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 5/22, 9:38 PM CT
George Sherrill picked up his eighth save of the season as the Orioles defeated the Nationals 4-2 on Friday. He allowed no base runners while striking out one.

Our View: Ever since David Trembley suggested using a committee approach in his bullpen, Sherrill has been lights out. He has gave up only two hits and not allowed a run his last seven outings.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 5/7, 11:20 PM CT
George Sherrill picked up his fifth save of the season while picking up the last three outs in Baltimore's 5-4 win over the Twins on Thursday. He struck out one batter and walked another in the game.

Our View: Sherrill is 5-for-7 on save chances this season, and manager Dave Trembley has said that he may turn to a committee in the ninth inning. For now, it appears that Sherrill still leads that committee.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 5/4, 12:41 PM CT
Orioles' skipper Dave Trembley indicated that it will be a day-to-day decision as to who will take the hill in save situations, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: George Sherrill holds a poor 1.69 WHIP over 10.2 innings, and blew his second save opportunity on Saturday. Chris Ray will now be in the mix for saves, and Jim Johnson may get a chance as well.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/2, 3:52 PM CT
Closer George Sherrill blew a save against the Blue Jays on Saturday. He entered a 4-3 game in the bottom of the 10th inning and gave up a home run to Aaron Hill.

Our View: Sherrill has now allowed 14 hits and three home runs over 10.2 innings. Chris Ray hasn't been sharp either, but we wonder if the Orioles will start thinking about Jim Johnson.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/25, 9:00 AM CT
Though he blew his first save of the season on Friday night, George Sherrill is still the man to handle ninth inning duties according to the Baltimore Sun. According to manager Dave Trembley, Sherrill will continue to man the ninth with Jim Johnson pitching the eighth and Chris Ray the seventh. "I think what it is, is putting guys in a slot and leaving them there," Trembley said.

Our View: Though he is in the seventh inning role, look for Ray to be called upon on days that Sherrill is unavailable (the team will not throw him in three straight days). After a rough start, Ray has thrown 4-consecutive scoreless outings, but it looks like he is still a ways from reclaiming the closers job.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 4/14, 11:16 PM CT
George Sherrill pitched the tenth inning of the Orioles 7-5 win over the Rangers on Tuesday and allowed two runs on four hits. He did not factor in the decision.

Our View: He was most likely in the game in a non save situation to get some work, but if he's not careful he'll lose his job to Chris Ray before he can say Jack Robinson.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 4/6, 8:30 PM CT
George Sherrill delivered a shutout ninth inning in Monday's 10-5 win over the Yankees. His lone blemish was a walk.

Our View: Sherrill is still slated to close for the Orioles this season, but he will have to cut down on his 5.57 BB/9 rate from last season if he hopes to hold the job all year.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 4/4, 11:16 PM CT
George Sherrill threw a perfect ninth inning in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Nationals. He did not register a strikeout.

Our View: Sherrill was very average as a closer last season, following a fairly hot start. He finished the year with a 4.73 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP to accompany a 9.79 K/9. His biggest problem was giving away first base as he walked 5.57 BB/9. He will be on a short leash this season with Chris Ray waiting in the wings.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 3/27, 10:13 AM CT
George Sherrill, who was named as Baltimore's primary closer earlier this spring, said he would not have a problem if Chris Ray opened the season as Baltimore's closer, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: "He (Ray) has looked good this spring," Sherrill said. "If that's something they want to do, that's fine. All I want to do is win. I don't care what my title is." Not exactly the exclamation of confidence you'd like to see from your supposed shutdown gunslinger. Ray has looked flawless this spring, while Sherrill has allowed an awful 17 base runners in just 5.1 innings of work. Though Sherrill is still currently listed as the primary closer, Ray was already expected to get at least some portion of the opportunities, and it's looking more and more like Ray could end up as the more valuable commodity with each passing day.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 3/13, 10:48 AM CT
According to the Baltimore Sun, George Sherrill will not be the only closer in Baltimore this season. He still retains the role of closer, but has been told by manager Dave Trembley that he would not get every save opportunity.

Our View: This sounds like a polite way of slowly pushing Sherrill to the curb to make way for Chris Ray. Sherrill will get chances early on, but if he faulters don't be surprised to see the O's go straight to Ray and stick with him. Until then it is another dreaded closer by committee situation.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 3/6, 6:10 PM CT
Closer George Sherrill pitched a scoreless inning Friday in the Orioles' win over Washington.

Our View: Sherrill will have to be strong early on to hold of Chris Ray who is ready to compete for the role of closer after missing the entire 2008 season as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 3/4, 12:53 PM CT
George Sherrill has apparently retained the closer role for the Orioles in 2009, according to the Associated Press. Management decided to stick with Sherrill even though last year's favorite, Chris Ray, has returned from injury

Our View: Sherrill's 31 saves last season were nice, but a second half implosion saw his ERA jump from 2.73 in June to 4.73 by season's end. If he can fix his control issues (33 walks in 55+ innings), Sherrill is a valuable fantasy closer in all leagues.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 2/18, 3:55 PM CT
George Sherrill has been limited so far in camp while dealing with a mild hamstring strain, according to the Baltimore Sun. He is still able to throw but is being held out of some conditioning drills to let his leg rest.

Our View: If healthy, Sherrill will be competing for the closer's role, but seems better suited to be a setup man.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 2/7, 1:21 AM CT
George Sherrill and the Orioles avoided arbitration, according to the Baltimore Sun. They agreed to a one-year, $2.75 million deal after Sherrill had been asking for $3.4 million and the Orioles initially offered $2.2 million.

Our View: Both sides were winners here, as the final value of the contract was just $50,000 below the midpoint. He was a decent closer for Baltimore last year, recording 31 saves.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 1/21, 2:32 PM CT
Orioles reliever George Sherrill has asked the Orioles for $3.4 million in an exchange of arbitration numbers, while the Orioles have offered $2.2 million, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Sherrill is going to be in competition with Chris Ray for the closer's job in spring training. The lefty really only had one very good month last season - in May, when he had a 2.25 ERA. Other than that, his ERA was at least 4.15 in every month, and he ended the year with ERA's of 6.75 in July, 6.35 in August and 9.00 in September.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 12/10, 9:44 AM CT
The Tigers are mildly interested in the Orioles' George Sherrill, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View: Joe Beimel remains the Tigers' top target among lefty relievers, but are yet to make him an offer. They still like JJ Putz as well, but may not be willing to part with Jeff Larish and Matt Joyce to close the deal with Seattle.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 12/9, 7:44 AM CT
The Baltimore Sun reports that George Sherrill and Chris Ray will likely compete for the closer's role next season.

Our View: Sherrill was an excellent set-up man in Seattle before getting a chance to close games with the Orioles last season. He is the front-runner to win the job as he is coming off a breakout season and Chris Ray is coming back from Tommy John surgery.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 9/14, 11:12 PM CT
George Sherrill looked rusty on Sunday allowing three runs while recording just one out, according to the Washington Post. "A little extra adrenaline I guess," said Sherrill who had been out for about a month due to shoulder inflammation. "I've got to relax a little bit, find my rhythm and get the timing going."

Our View: Sherrill's ERA us up to 4.97, and his late season struggles have put a damper on a season that includes 31 saves. Ideally, Sherill would serve as a setup man, so don't be surprised if he ends up in that role in 2009.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 9/11, 2:08 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, George Sherrill has been activated from the DL following his bout with left shoulder inflammation, according to the AP.

Our View: The Orioles lost 16 of 19 games while he was on the shelf, and he is expected to resume his role as the closer immediately. He held a high 1.49 WHIP but converted 31 saves with 54 strikeouts over 50.1 innings, and should be penciled back into fantasy lineups.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 9/11, 10:26 AM CT
George Sherrill, who was placed on the DL with left shoulder inflammation August 19, will be activated Friday if he has no pain or soreness today, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The Orioles' bullpen is depleted, and manager Dave Trembley has no other choice but to place Sherrill back as the closer immediately upon his return. Sherrill has a high 1.49 WHIP but converted 31 saves for the club this season, and should be penciled back into fantasy lineups for the closing weeks of the season.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/9, 10:14 AM CT
George Sherrill, who is recovering from left shoulder inflammation, is slated to throw a simulated game Wednesday, according to the Baltimore Sun. Manager Dave Trembley said, "If he feels OK, he'll be activated, probably a few days after that."

Our View: Sherrill is expected to resume his closer's role upon his return with Chris Ray not expected back.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 9/2, 9:14 AM CT
George Sherrill, who is dealing with left shoulder inflammation, made 25 throws from 100 feet and felt fine, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: He'll do it again before Wednesday night's game and if all goes favorably without a setback, he'll throw a bullpen session Friday. He will resume his closer's role upon his return as Chris Ray is not expected back.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 8/30, 4:08 PM CT
George Sherrill, who is recovering from left shoulder inflammation, resumed his throwing program Saturday and is scheduled for a pen session on Wednesday, according to the AP.

Our View: Chris Ray is not expected to return this season, so Sherrill will not be pushed from the closer's job when he comes back to Baltimore, which could be in early September, barring a setback.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 8/28, 11:26 AM CT
Orioles closer George Sherrill will come off the DL on Monday and return to his role at the back-end of the Orioles pen. According to the Baltimore Sun Sherrill will have one more light workout then a practice throwing off the mound.

Our View: Sherrill has 31 saves this year in 37 opportunities.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 8/27, 3:53 PM CT
Orioles closer George Sherrill will be activated on September 1 when rosters expand should his rehab continue going smoothly, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Sherrill should return to the closer's role when he gets back to the big leagues. He had struggled a bit before going on the DL, which is evident by his 1.49 WHIP. That is certainly not a number that should please fantasy owners, although his 31 saves ease the pain.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/26, 11:10 AM CT
George Sherrill may play catch today for the first time since going on the DL with left shoulder inflammation, according to the Baltimore Sun. He says he can raise his arm above his shoulder again and is optimistic about a quick recovery.

Our View: Sherrill should be back in September, but the club may take it easy with him while they audition their younger prospects.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/19, 5:34 PM CT
The Orioles have placed closer George Sherrill on the 15-day DL due to inflammation in his left shoulder, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Our View: The Sun points to Jim Johnson as the best candidate for saves, although the Orioles could use a committee. Sherrill could be back by September 1.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 8/19, 7:39 AM CT
George Sherrill has stiffness in his throwing shoulder and could be shut down for a few days, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Sherrill's shoulder stiffened before Monday's game against Boston, so he will be further examined by a doctor. He has been struggling as of late, and though he provides fantasy owners saves, his 4.47 ERA and 1.49 WHIP are awfully high for a closer.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 8/15, 11:23 AM CT
George Sherrill was claimed through waivers by at least one unnamed American League team and was pulled back by the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The Orioles have now lost revocable waivers on Sherrill, meaning he cannot be placed on waivers again without the risk of losing him with no compensation in return. So the lefty reliever will remain with Baltimore for the rest of the 2008 season.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 8/10, 4:06 PM CT
George Sherrill was not pitching in a save situation, but he still allowed three runs in his one inning of work.

Our View: Sherrill does have 31 saves, but his recent performances have been poor. In July his ERA was 6.75. So far in August it's 11.25.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/30, 1:49 PM CT
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated suggests that George Sherrill may be off the market.

Our View: The Orioles were hoping to get a starting shortstop in exchange for Sherrill, but they haven't been able to work out a deal for one that satisfies them. Milwaukee's Alcides Escobar and Anaheim's Erick Aybar were appealing to them, but neither team would give them up for Sherrill, who has nailed down 30 saves so far with Baltimore.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/27, 6:06 PM CT
George Sherrill pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his 30th save of the season. His name has been mentioned in trade talks lately and the Orioles could still move him before the deadline.

Our View: The lefty has had a bad month and this appearance marks his first 1-2-3 inning since June 17. Still, he has exceeded expectations as few people expected Sherrill to record 30 saves when he joined the Orioles in the offseason.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/24, 3:43 PM CT
George Sherrill made a ninth inning appearance for the Orioles despite being down 7-1 to the Blue Jays. He struck out two, and gave up two singles while throwing 19 pitches in the inning.

Our View: The Orioles had gone through four relievers prior to Sherrill during the doubleheader, but it may be more likely that they were showcasing the lefty for teams that may be interested in the closer. He has a 6.23 ERA over his last 15 appearances.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 7/22, 10:51 AM CT
George Sherrill is on several team's radar, including the Cardinals and Brewers, and the Orioles may trade him if they find a deal that suits their needs, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The Orioles are believed to be looking for two or three prospects in exchange for Sherrill, which would ideally consist of a shortstop.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersWednesday 7/16, 7:01 PM CT
Whether or not George Sherrill remains with the Orioles the rest of the year is in question, according to the Baltimore Sun. The Sun speculated that Sherrill could be moved, possibly to the Dodgers, now that Takashi Saito is out of action for at least six weeks.

Our View: Rumors like this one are bound to make the rounds between now and the trading deadline, and it wouldn't be a shock to see the Dodgers pick up a more experienced arm to team with newly anointed closer Jonathan Broxton at the back end of the Dodgers pen.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 7/11, 11:38 PM CT
George Sherrill faced two batters to get his 28th save on Friday. First, he walked Dustin Pedroia to laod the bases. Then he promptly struck out Kevin Youkilis for the final out of the game.

Our View: Sherrill's made it a bit too interesting lately (he blew his sixth save on Thursday), but it does not look like the Orioles have anyone to spell him of save opportunities.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 7/10, 9:42 PM CT
George Sherrill picked up his sixth blown save of the season and then his fourth loss as the Orioles fell 6-5 on Thursday.

Our View: Sherrill is showing some major cracks of late with four of the blown saves and three of the loses in his last 11 appearances as his ERA has risen from 3.23 to 4.12. He doesn't appear to be close to losing his job, but that doesn't mean you would be dumb to explore his value in a trade, especially since he could be on the move to a team where he might end up serving as a setup man.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 7/6, 5:22 PM CT
George Sherrill had another unremarkable appearance on Sunday. He lasted 1.1 innings, walked two, gave up two hits and one run.

Our View: The All-Star closer has just one save in his last four appearances. He has totalled 3.2 innings, five hits, three walks, two home runs and four earned runs in that span. Otherwise, it has been a spectacular 2008 for Sherrill. This could be a sign that teams are figuring out the lefty.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersMonday 6/30, 11:47 PM CT
George Sherrill blew his fifth save on Monday, his second in as many nights. Sherrill's mistake pitch resulting in a Miguel Olivo home run was part of an overall bad performance by the Baltimore bullpen, which blew a 5-1 lead after starter Brian Burres permitted one run in the first five innings.

Our View: Sherrill has been one of the good stories in the first half of the season and for the most part has been exceptional in his 39 appearances. However, there will be talk that the lefty has been overworked with his second straight blown save.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSunday 6/29, 4:31 PM CT
George Sherrill blew his fourth save on Sunday. The Orioles took the lead in the top of the 12th against the Nationals, but the closer served up a walk and a two-run homer after getting two outs in the bottom of the inning. Sherrill's ERA grew to 3.53.

Our View: Fantasy owners can hardly complain. Sherrill was a low-cost reliever heading into the season, and he already owns 26 saves. His job is safe.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 6/20, 10:53 PM CT
George Sherrill picked up two walks on his way to a scoreless ninth inning during his 25th save of the season for the Orioles.

Our View: With a 4.86 BB/9 mark, Sherrill continues to play with fire on most nights. Lucky for him he is striking out almost a batter an inning while holding batters to less than a .180 average.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersThursday 6/19, 9:16 PM CT
George Sherrill saved his 24th game of the season in Thursday's win over the Astros, and notched his seventh in June.

Our View: George Sherrill entered with the bases loaded in the ninth and gave up a sacrifice fly to Kazuo Matsui and a run-scoring infield hit to Miguel Tejada before retiring Lance Berkman on a short fly ball to end the game with the O's winning 7-5.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/17, 9:39 PM CT
As promised, Baltimore LHP George Sherrill was available for closing duties tonight and did just that, earning his 23rd save of the season as the Orioles beat the Astros 6-5. Sherrill closed out the ninth, striking out one with two fly outs, all influenced over just 14 pitches.

Our View: Sherrill now touts six saves through June with a 3.68 ERA.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/17, 7:42 PM CT
Orioles closer George Sherrill is available for use this evening despite reports of an ailing and "dead" arm, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Sherrill was 12-for-12 in save opportunities prior to this past weekend's three-game series with the Pirates; he came out of that series with a blown save and a loss. On Sunday, after the Orioles tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, Sherrill was once again ineffective, allowing the Pirates to take the lead in the 10th and ultimately seal the win. After Sunday's game, the closer said he felt his arm was dead and didn't feel as though he could get anybody out. However, today Sherrill spoke with reporters and says his arm is just fine, stating his words were more out of frustration than pain. Sherrill has appeared in seven of the Orioles' past 12 games, is second in the American League in saves with 22 and is tied for the league lead in appearances this season with 33.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 6/13, 10:30 PM CT
George Sherrill earned his 22nd save of the season in Friday's 9-6 win over the Pirates. The left-hander pitched a perfect ninth inning.

Our View: Sherrill's 22 saves is second to K-Rod of the Angels who has 27.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersTuesday 6/3, 10:20 PM CT
George Sherrill recorded his 19th save of the season on Tuesday night, retiring the Twins in order while striking out one in a 5-3 win.

Our View: Only K-Rod has more saves than Sherrill this year. Yet another reason why you should not pay for saves on auction day.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/17, 10:27 PM CT
George Sherrill pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out one, for his 17th save in 19 chances.

Our View: Sherrill has four saves in the four Orioles games this week.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersSaturday 5/17, 5:45 PM CT
George Sherrill picked up his 16th save in 18 opportunities on Friday night, pitching a perfect ninth inning. Sherrill has been good despite his lack of command. His 10 walks in 20 innings is concerning and his K Rate is south of his 2007 numbers.

Our View: In his defense, the southpaw is in a different environment and has a different role than the one he held with Seattle, and one of this two blown saves was a game in Oakland when he entered the game with the bases loaded and one out. He proceeded to record two ordinary outs -- but gave up a game tying run in the process.

George Sherrill registered a league high 15th save on Wednesday afternoon as the Orioles beat John Lester and the Red Sox, 6-3.

Our View: His league leading 15th save wasn't easy, though. Sherrill gave up two hits that sandwiched a double play before finally getting Alex Cora to foul out to left field.

Baltimore closer George Sherrill picked up his 13th save of the season, putting the Kansas City Royals to bed in the ninth, 6-5. Sherrill pitched the ninth inning, allowing one hit and one walked seasoned, allowing one earned run to score, with two strike outs.

Our View: While Sherrill is getting the saves, he has been anything but relieving. His 4.41 ERA is all too stressful for fantasy owners while his propensity for walks is a recipe for disaster.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 5/9, 11:13 PM CT
George Sherrill worked the ninth for his 12th save in 14 opportunities this year.

Our View: One of Sherrill's blown saves came in Oakland when he entered the game with the bases loaded with one out. He proceeded to get the next two hitters on ground balls outs, but the game tying run that scored resulted in a blown save. One of the worst rules in baseball.

Baltimore closer George Sherrill suffered his first blown save in 10 chances this year after giving up an 11th inning home run to Juan Uribe.

Our View: Sherrill's save total has assisted fantasy owners. His 4.66 ERA is high for a closer, but his 1.14 WHIP suggests he's pitched into some bad luck. The O's closer remains a starting option in all formats.
George Sherrill, P, Los Angeles DodgersFriday 4/25, 1:27 PM CT
George Sherrill is a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities this season, according to MLB.com. He holds a 4.82 ERA over 9.1 innings, but has eight strikeouts, and a favorable 1.18 WHIP.

Our View: The former Mariners' reliever has proven to be a steal for the Orioles in the early going, as well as for fantasy owners who landed him in the late rounds on draft day.

George Sherrill pitched the ninth inning on Thursday night to pick up his eighth save of the season.

Our View: Sherrill has been a godsend for the Orioles in the early going, as well as a true weapon for those fantasy leaguers that invested a late round pick in the hard throwing lefty.

George Sherrill saved his sixth game of the season on Monday, but he also served up a two-run homer to Alex Rios. The southpaw hadn't allowed a hit or run in each of his previous five outings.

Our View: We obviously didn't expect Sherrill to stay perfect, and he was fortunate to have a three-run lead.

George Sherrill needed 14 pitches on Monday to close out his fourth save of the early going for the Orioles. Sherrill has allowed two walks in 3.2 innings this season though batters have yet to reach base via a hit. It's too early to tab him an all-star, but this strong start should waylay any fears that anyone had that he couldn't handle the closers role.

Who said this closing thing was difficult? George Sherrill now has three saves in three appearances for the Orioles after Saturday night. Sherrill figures to be locked into the role in Baltimore, and if he keeps pitching the way he has early in the year there will be a whole lot of happy fantasy owners out there that grabbed Sherrill late.

Orioles manager Dave Trembley said several decisions will be made after Monday's open spring date, this according to the Baltimore Sun. The decision fantasy owners are interested in --the identity of the Orioles' closer. Sherrill, who had a career 10.48 ERA in spring training entering this year, has allowed just one earned run, two hits and no walks in five innings. Barring a meltdown in the next two weeks, Sherrill will receive the save chances beginning on opening day.

George Sherrill will throw a side session on Friday, and if that goes well he should be able to pitch on Monday, according to the Baltimore Sun.
